The Hunter Douglas LiteRise lift is used on the Duette and Applause honeycomb shades. The LiteRise (Cordless) lift was introduced around 2003 to promote child and pet safety by reducing the hanging cords. Hunter Douglas has been an industry leader in innovative engineering making products that are durable, stylish and safe to use.
This guy is a rockstar! I followed the instructions but accidents happen and I lost the tension on my motors while reinstalling. I called him and he gave me a solution that worked. What a nice guy!!!
what is the solution?
@@jadenmateriprobably to connect the transmission into the silver bar (v notch or d notch) and then wind it by hand by twirling the mechanism before placing it on the track and snapping it into the pin holes. Hold in place and slide the track back in.
Who could have imagined blinds could be so complicated. Could not have done our repairs without this video. Thanks.
Thank you so much for the explanation about dropping the shade making sure that's fully extended and then engaging the motor
excellent, easy to follow, video. I purchased my blinds in 2007 and this is third transmission break. Twice I drove my blind an hour each way to get it fixed. this time I fixed it myself thanks to your video.
Well, it's been a year since I last did this, so I had to watch the video again. You made the process so easy. Thank you for the tutorial.
Thanks for stopping back again!
Well detailed instructions for repairing HD shades. Exactly the thing I was looking for. I just purchased the necessary parts from you as a result. Thank you for putting the time into creating this video.
I'm a handyman in LI NY. I found you video ... watched it 2 time and understood the hole thing .. costumer happy... money in the pocket!!!
thank you so much .
Once again this video gave me all the info I needed to repair a Hunter Douglas Duette LiteRise lift. Thank you!
Later, my wife called Hunter Douglas to get replacement lift tabs; they told her there is a lifetime warranty and sent her several for free. I purchased replacement motor and transmission on line, but they might have been free from Hunter Douglas.
Thank you so much! Thought I was going to have to buy very pricey new shade, but these replacement parts and video worked like a charm!
Just got my dual side motors installed. Thank you! Great customer service, too.
Thank you for making this video! I was able to order the right parts and make the repair myself on the first try. You made it so easy! 🎉
Thank you for posting this video and selling repair parts at a reasonable price! (Quick shipping too!)
I have fixed three shades now, thanks to this video. Thank you for the set-by-step directions. Money saved!!!
thanks for the video. Like most viewers I appreciate your step by step instruction. I did purchase the parts from your site. The most difficult part of the repair was taking off/on the blinds from their mounts. Ironically HD offers lifetime warranty on parts, however, labor is over $150, so it was still cheaper to purchase the parts and make the repair as instructed.
Glad to hear your repair was a success🎉. Hunter Douglas states that the lifetime warranty applies to the original purchaser.
Thank you thank you THANK you for putting this video together. I broke my first transmission because I simply installed it on top of my existing motors. Learning from experience I decided I'd better have a harder look for the secret to installing the replacement part. I had a spare I bought (thankfully) BUT I didn't have the motor assembly. So what I did was I installed the transmission on it's own with the adapter installed and clicked it in place. I came in behind with with the motor assembly I had wound up (about 20-25 half turns) using a hex nut screwdriver adapter and with some assistance we got the two together. Unless you're really dexterous you're not going to be able to hold the spring tension with the screwdriver AND get the transmission installed. The process was less drama that I imagined. In the end, one of my strings was shorter than the other so I've got a small tilt in the blind when it's down but, for now, I'm a happy dude. There is NO information on the HD website nor is there any support info on the parts store where I bought the transmissions. You, my friend, is why UA-cam still exists. Thank you for doing this.
Do you remember if you tightened the motors clockwise or ccw? My transmission cord broke as well and it would be great to avoid buying motors if I can just pre-tighten the motors.
Thank you so much for a very clear video on how to repair the Lite Rise lift. I have another one to fix so will be ordering more parts from your store.
Great video instruction 👍We also accidentally lost tension on the first set of replacement motors. One little key part was keeping the shade fully open before pulling the motor pinout. I'm stoked to have it working again. Thank you.
Thanks a million for this great video. It was just what I was looking for with detailed step by step instructions. I have a house full of these now and some are starting to fail despite being dang near brand new and getting minimal use. I'm very displeased with the hassle of needing repairs on new merchandise , but very glad to have the method to fix 'em myself. You Rock !!
Thank you!! You saved me about $150...it cost me over $200 when I took one in locally for repair a couple of years ago!!
Thank you so much for this very clear video. We repaired our shade thanks to you!!!
Outstanding video. Your detailed and concise instructions made this repair simple. The parts arrived quickly and I had everything I needed. Thanks for the help.
Where do you parts and the I’m repairing is top down bottom up this video only show bottom up so what do you do when it has both parts on each end?
Thanks for posting your vid your repair helped me sort my Luxaflex blind fault out. Appreciate your time & effort to help people out. Your a Champ👍👍👍👍
Wow! That was so easy! Thank you! Thank you! Followed the instructions carefully and it worked like a charm. NOTE: Be sure to watch the whole bit about deploying the shade and pulling the last piece after you have pulled the shade all the way down. He seems to go over this twice? MAGIC! I don't understand the mechanics behind this but it works!
Easy to follow step-by-step video. And thanks for shipping the parts quickly. All fixed!
Worked great and allowed me to fix my blind myself. A caution for others: I allowed one of the bobbins to rotate a couple of times while messing around with it, cause the blind to lower unevenly. I put the stop back in and fixed it, but learn from my mistake. :-)
Thanks! Just fixed my blinds after purchasing from your website and watching this video.
Me too!
This video is fantastic. Thanks for making it and sharing. Easy to follow and save me time and money!
Excellent video! Couldn't have done it without your very clear instructions.
Thanks. Really superb video which made my repair a breeze. Really easy to buy parts from you guys too.
Woks as described, thanks a lot! My shades are slightly different, but the mechanism is the same. I add some hints: before taking off the old mechanism, take a few pictures, your shade might have different mounting attachments at the end or in the middle of the mechanism. Second: like the video shows, before coupling the mechanism make sure the strings are completely deployed, mines were just a couple of turns rolled, and that blocked the whole thing for a while, until I discovered it. Thanks again for the video!
This video was extremely helpful. Easy to follow and with all the necessary details. Thank you.
Fantastic tutorial with all the relevant details covered.
Thank you. This was helpful
Thank you. Great video and really, a simple repair.
This guy is my hero, did exactly as he said and super easy fix.
Thanks! Worked like a charm!
Great video. Everything worked perfectly.
Thank you for this detailed video! We were able to repair the blinds following these instructions (and purchase from your website). As an aside, Hunter Douglas may be a well-respected brand, but these (LiteRise) blinds have been complete pieces of junk! We have two of these and both of them have had to be sent in twice for repairs. This was the third time for one. This is in a house with no kids or pets, and gentle handling!
Excellent video! Thank you so much for sharing. This worked perfectly and was easy to follow.
Well wish I found this video before I pulled the pins and fin out of motor. Can I do anything to salvage it?
Alas, I watched this several times and then, when it came for me to do it, I had my headphones on and was concentrating on what was in front of me. Which meant I stupidly removed the shaft stop at 4:07...but as I only had one motor, that step was not for me. I found out at 4:48 when I heard you say "You don't want to release this." Sigh. I feel like such a twit. On the plus side, I have now been through the whole process once and know what to do right this time.
Thanks for the informative video, just repaired my shade!!
Thanks for posting. Very helpful.
Great video showing how to repair the transmission!! I do need help understanding how to secure the end of one of the internal strings to the spool. After installing the new trans and hanging the shade, the string appears to have come loose from the spool. ugh! Thanks!
Worked exactly as advertised. Quick parts delivery. Easy fix - thank you!
Keeping this going. A daunting repair made easy. Worked on my Vignette Shade. Easy ordering and quick shipping. Note you might consider having some double stick tape or glue handy as the fabric was pulling away from the top guide, as well as the aluminum housing.
I got my second replacement motor, followed along again, and at that moment when you remove the shaft stop at 6:54...I got to hear my motor whizz out, losing all the tension. No idea what I did wrong this time, but the blinds are beginning to shred now where I move of the metal covers back and forth and I just cannot face buying another kit to get the same results. I guess I get to be the one where it does not work.
Awesome video. Was ready to get rid of the blinds but this was an easy repair!
Y'all are life savers!
FYI: The motors and transmissions from Hunter-Douglas also work in Alta shades. I just did a replacement on a 16 y.o. Alta/Kathy Ireland shade. I re-used the old adapters for both the motor and transmission as they seemed to fit the system better (they were larger/wider) and following the instructions in the video had it working in no time.
Thank you so much! Very helpful video!
Thank you so much, this video was perfect! only problem is my shade is slanted now...will have to find another video for that fix!
Excellent video, very detailed. Everything I need to change out motors and transmission in HD Lite Rise. Thank you very much!!!!
So helpful, thank you!
I have about 5 of these blinds in my house. What's strange to me is that, every single one has two sets of these motor/transmission/rod/spool assemblies in it. But only one is used. The other one does nothing as I expand and contract the blinds. Why?
How in the world did the headrail slide off so easily? Mine won't budge
I have the same issue and was wondering that do I have to change all the 3 things (2 motors and one transmission)? Is there a way to find out what went wrong, the motor or the transmission? and just replace that.
This worked perfectly. Thanks so much!
I was unable to find the transmissions or the motors for my Duette Shade Literise on the Hunter Douglass website. Did anyone else have any luck?
Can you re-tension the springs?
Would you please comment on how to correct the problem of one side of the shade drooping down after it has been retracted. Is the repair a simple as popping out the plug on the bottom bracket and shortening the string?
If using the existing transmission, how does it change? do you have to put a pin in? thanks
Do you have an explanation on how to do this with top/down bottom-up version? I can't seem to figure out how to get the new motor and transmission to engage properly when installed. I think has to do with how the spools are set before I release the motor stop. Thanks!
Top down BottomUp shades are best done with two people. One person holds the shade so both the bottom rail and the intermediate rail are fully extended away from the top headrail and the lift cord will be bailed off both sets of lift spools. The other person will position the new lift assembly in place making sure the transmission adapter and motor adapter pins are seated into the punch holes in the aluminum slat. Slide the assembly back into the headrail and pull the white motor stop/lock off the motor to complete the procedure.
Thank you!
When I did this it is pretty tough to pull down and the blinds are lopsided. Any thoughts on why?
I discovered that the cord on one of the spools has come off and wound itself around the metal shaft. How do I repair that??
Well shoot , Looks easy but leave it too me to ruin such an easy installation. Where are you located?
It’s much easier to remove the lower rail and pull the cords through than to mess around with deploying and lowering the shade.
The video shows a bottom up repair, I have a bottom up / top down shade where the top down transmission failed. Do the same procedures apply regarding the state of the blind before you remove the last transmission pin?
Yes both the bottom rail and the intermediate rail will be fully extended down all the way so no lift cord is on any of the cord lift spools. Then install the lift assembly and pull the pin.
Okay, I wound it like you said, and it started clicking at about 20 winds so I stopped. It raised the tension but did not pull down correctly and made a clicking noise as I pulled it down until it was back to weak tension again. Does this mean my motor/spring is broken?
Yes motor is broken
I can't get the top rail to slide off. It seems stuck. Any advice?
What if it hangs crocked ?
If the shade hangs really crooked then the lift cord most likely is wrapped around the cord takeup reel incorrectly. If it is just slightly crooked then it was probably like that before it broke and can be adjusted at the bottom rail by adjusting the lift cords thru the pocket and ferrule or the cord adjuster if a newer shade.
Thank you!!
Thanks for the detailed video. Thougjh i have a few questions. On the transmission you took off one stop and then took off the second stop after snaping on the motor. Could you have left both transmission stops on then remove them both of them after snapping on the motor. Also what would happen if you didnt pull the shade down before removing the motor shaft stop. Would the shade still operate.
Interesting how the new motors/ transmission kept disappearing and had to be put back on again
Do these motors have batteries in them?
@@MarkTarquini No batteries, the motor is driven by a pre wound metal spring called a “Constant Force Spring”.
no
@@automatedshadeinc4154 I ordered my parts about a month or so ago and the replacement went great. Thank you!!
My 2004 Literise-Duette has a white transmission with D-Rod shaft. Which motor should I get?
Great video. Thank you!
Great tutorial
Hi. Great video. It was very helpful.
For some reason my setup had the black Transmission in the back but on your video is in the middle. Does that matter?
Thanks again
I think you meant...black motor in the back...not the transmission. The position of the motors does not matter.
@@automatedshadeinc4154 Perfect. Thanks

I have a shade with a four motor set up. The motors fresh back from repair, snapped out and unfortunately unwound. The transmission and all other parts look good. Is there a way to wind the motor back and reinstall? I may need to improvise for transmission pins and motor locks as well since I don't have these.
Usually when the motors unwind really fast the steel spring inside the motor either breaks or is compromised. If you can wind the motors 42 turns clockwise then they are still usable - if not then trash. The transmissions are very hard to wind back up so the string occupies every groove on the conical cylinder. I have not been very successful at doing this. If you are successful at rewinding the transmission then you could use a paper clip as a pin lock. After locking the transmission, snap each wound motor to the transmission to hold in place. Once assembled, maybe get a thin piece of wire ad wrap the assembly longwise to hold together so it does not come apart. Other option is to send back for another repair or purchase all new components. Hope this helps. Bill
@@automatedshadeinc4154 Thanks. I will try. Else will come back for parts.
source for parts?
Can anyone explain how I take the shade down to examine the inner parts without damaging any wires?
One the webpage to purchase these parts there is a PDF document that explains the shade removal procedure. Here is a link to that PDF: www.automatedshadeinc.com/files/hunterdouglas-duette/hunter%20douglas%20duette%20literise%20(cordless)%20lift%20repair-2013.pdf
@@automatedshadeinc4154 That link is broken now. But, thanks for the video! It saved me $85 to send them in.
What if I only need to change the transmission? Do I need to buy new motors too? I bought a blue transmission and installed with old motor and it doesn’t work.
You need to replace the entire lift assembly which consists of the transmission and motors. Anything less will result in failure.
After fixing hundreds of these shades over the years, I have found (and highly recommend on the webpage) replacing ALL the components with exact SAME colors of the existing components. This includes the Transmission, Transmission Adapter Plate, the Motors and the motor adapter plate. Anything short of this will most likely result in failure. Hope this helps. Bill
and motor shaft stopper
We bought a house with a large, 104", Hunter Douglas Duette Honeycomb Literise shade that will no longer go up. When I pulled it apart the transmission color is not any of the 4 shown in the video but is an off white color. Do you have any idea if one of the others can replace it as I can't seem to find the off white one on-line anywhere...? Thank you!
If you check the website there is a note about this:
"Note: If your shade has a WHITE Transmission: Replace with a RED Transmission for shades widths less than 48" or a BLACK transmission for shades over 48" wide."
So I think the transmission you need for your 104" shade is the black one.
Ok,this may be a lifesaver, because the shade guys have no interest in honoring the warrantee. They just want to charge $130 to fix it.
If you do it exactly like he says, it works my husband just fix two of our shades.
Where can I buy the parts? Hunter Douglas won't send the transmission and motors to me. They say it must be done through one of their dealers. They were willing to send the pockets and ferrules.
Purchase parts at www.blindshaderepair.com/Parts-for-Cordless-Blinds-Shades-s/2571.htm
Just a heads up if you take our blind to a certified repair center for hunter douglas the motors and transmissions are free, you only need pay for the service, however sometimes not even that.
@@devisissy1 It is a free repair only if YOU are the original purchaser of the shade and have the sales receipt else you will pay for the parts and the LABOR. I was a DSC (Dealer Service Center) for many years up until 2018.
Where can I buy it?Amazon ?
Purchase parts at www.blindshaderepair.com/Parts-for-Cordless-Blinds-Shades-s/2571.htm
You can purchase parts or kit at: www.automatedshadestore.com/shop/product-info.php?HD_Duette_LiteRise_Lift_System_Replacement_Kit-pid578.html
motors can be energized no need to buy new ones.
Yes...sometimes the motors can be re-used but if the small cord in the transmission breaks (which is usually the case), then the motors unwind rapidly and the internal spring inside the motor breaks most of the time. If you can rewind the motor per the instructions on the website 42 turns then you can re-use it. After repairing HUNDREDS of these shades, I replace ALL the components so the entire assembly is fresh and ready for duty. If you are going to tackle the job then I would strongly suggest doing it with NEW motors and related components! Doing it any other way is unreliable.
@@automatedshadeinc4154 Where might one purchase the replacement motors?
Now these flimsy plastic parts really is a pain on the wallet
I haven’t asked HD for parts yet, but I heard parts are free. Provide purchase information and pay postage.
I would highly recommend NOT doing this yourself. At least with two sides to do. I have the shades that stay up or down. What a nightmare. Why the previous owners spent stupid money on these things I;ll never know.
Will never buy them again. Purchased for bedrooms in 2015 and it has been nothing but constant failure ever since. Recently had a repair man come in again to fix them. Guess what? Failed again. Dont waste ur money on shit products.
Totally agree - I have had the same experience with these.
Is there a way to know the lines inside are good before clicking the transmission and gear into place? Also is there another step if the line came detached at the bottom plug? I’m a little concerned I may connect the pieces and nothing happens.
I purchased 2 motors, biege, for 2 shades. The transmissions are still in good shape and wound as it should be. Followed directions exactly per the video an it is not working properly. The internal lines a intact. Does not retract with out help and does not go all the way up. What am I doing wrong? Do the shade wind up spool shafts (3) need lubrication?
thank you!!
