  • In this episode, Noel gives us tips to increase speed through turns using a surf skate. He refers to weight distribution and transferring weight from 70-30 to 50-50 and eventually increases his speed on a wave. Noel breaks down surf skates and how to choose the right surf skate for your surfing. Noel shows you how to practice gaining speed on your surf skate by initiating the back truck, using proper weight transfer, and extending and compressing your body. He also shares how the grip of the wheels emulate surfing by providing traction just as fins offer resistance in the water while turning your surfboard. Practice and repetition while using a surf skate will help you progress in your. surfing.

Awesome video! That really puts a lot of pieces of the pie together that we often take for granted surfing and having the benefit of engaging rails and displacing water. I've been stuck in Latvia for several months on deployment and actually just got my first set of Slide trucks here and really like them. I've been skating some fun pump tracks here and find that the looseness of the Slide trucks loses some speed (that the Carver trucks carry through better) on certain sections, especially where I make a more vertical top turn on a bowl and really need to drive off the bottom and carry speed to get over the next hump. Thanks Noel. I'll be looking into your site about coaching. I love this stuff.

7:06 I had a Carver C7 Da Monsta that I rode until the back wheels turned into tiny cones and lost all their grip. I tell you, it quickly taught me to push more weight through the back foot because otherwise I’d slide out of every turn 😆

First of all i love your channel. The most professional channel for sure ,my question is why don't they produce those amazing early 2000 boards any longer what not taking the same shapes and using a better materials?since the year 2004 i cant find the perfect board because the volume stupidity

Cheers for the kind words. Volume is a great tool to help with board dimensions or vice versa. I’m old school too… the whole volume thing took a while for me to get dialed with board DIMS. But now that I understand it a bit… it’s pretty easy.

Hey Noel, at 1:57 -2:23 where you mess up, what should you have done differently? Should you have held the pressure on the back foot longer? And kept that front hand from coming through?

All I needed to do on the bottom turn is keep my lead arm back behind my lead leg (or left hip) or at least even to my lead leg. (Or left hip)
My tail and fins disengaged because my front arm got in front of my hips so that really shifted my weight forward and pulled the tail out of the water.

Hey Noel, thank you for pointing out the grip! I've had my Carver for almost 10 years now and I never understood why people tried to over-accentuate their turns with a slide at the end. 1. It makes you stop, 2. There are boards/ trucks/ wheels that are much more suited to sliding (see techsliding boards). My goal has always been to come out of a 180 degree turn with enough speed to initiate the next 180 degree turn. Makes your head spin and your legs burn!

Cool to know about the Slide. I have the Neme Pro model and I agree it feels remarkably like surfing. Has improved my surfing significantly. What brand would you recommend for my next board? PS I skate for fun and to get around, not training per se. But it's always fun to throw it around like a surfboard.

hello and thank you Noel 👋🏻👍🏻,
you've managed to put into words the importance of weight transfer to turn and how to do it.💁🏼‍♂️
So, I'm part of a community of ssk8 in France and as a surfer, my practice is mainly oriented surf training.🙆🏼‍♂️
My point is that it is essential before trying to continually slide the rear wheels of your ssk8, to focus on your carve and your flow.💁🏼‍♂️
The risk, in the opposite case in ssk8 is to take bad habits and supports, which will be counterproductive in surfing.🤷🏼‍♂️
    Thanks 🤙🏻
