    Many thanks for the surfing tips. I have been surfing for 42 years and I'm in my upper 50"s now. Catching waves is my biggest problem. Even with higher volume surfboards 44 to 46 liters ( 6ft 2") at 200 lbs" on East Coast Beach breaks, paddling and catching the wave before it starts closing out on me is a big problem. Thank You for what you do.

    nice tip i will give that one a go, another thing I do which helps on the paddle is to point your toes when the waves picking you up it tends to stiffen you body lifting your tail up and gives you more glide into the wave, sounds stupid but saw a really good surfer years ago doing it on a wafer board back in the 90"s and he caught everything he looked at.

    • @MrJMHP
      @MrJMHP 2 роки тому +3

      That's the correct technique... I do it to. By stiffen your body and especially the legs, you gain more paddle power. Since your body is stable and balanced your sholders and arms get more muscle power beacause your muscles dont have to deal with an unbalanced lower body. These way paddling becomes more effective and easier. This is a nobrainer rule... A stable body equals a stable surfboard during the takeoff and every technique that Noel mentioned on this video becomes more natural to do it well.

  • @futureaztec5109
    @futureaztec5109 2 роки тому +6

    It's interesting. I fell into the techniques you are showing just naturally over the years. However, I watched a video on catching waves recently (finally one that wasn't for beginner to intermediate) and the message was different. The technique there was to keep your back arched and resist putting you head and chin down. The argument was that this would press your tail back against the pitch of the wave and create squirt like the board is a bar of soap getting pinched. I tried it yesterday and got good results. I feel like I got myself out of a bit of a rut I got into by always using that weight forward style you show here, and trying too hard. I think there is a time and place for both though.

    • @surfnshowreviews7777

  • @mikeuptegrove

    I noticed you mentioned you have your trucks set at medium, and they look a bit stiff when your carving. Do you think a stiffer surf skate truck will transfer better in regards to applying toe and heel pressure in bottom turns? I ride my surf skate pretty loose, because my surfboards feel pretty loose too. I feel like pressure applied too heavily on a surfboard causes bigger problems than overpowering my surf skate does since they don’t wheel bite and rails in the water can still bury.

I'm popping up goofy footed when I surf but am regular on my skateboard although I can skate both stances pretty well should I learn to pop up to regular which feels really awkward or continue to surf goofy and not be as comfortable with turns?

      Im also a lifelong skater who somewhat recently started surfing. I skate and surf goofy, but snowboard and wakeboard regular. For me it has to do with my feet being strapped in vs not. It might be worth trying to pop up regular, I feel like surfing and skating have the most in common between all the board sports, as skating a bowl is super similar to riding a Wave
