    2015 85D here. Bought for less than $29,000. Over 100,000 miles but drives great. New MCU2 makes it feel new. New brakes and rotors. Free supercharging. Way less than a brand new Nissan leaf plus. More range. AWD. Superior everything.

      It's aged well but fake grills look stupid bc they are. Newer versions subtly much better looking.
      Pictures shown here don't do them justice, both versions look much better in person, black well cared for oldies still look good and modern tho.

    out of warranty issues (if any) on these older vehicles may eat into the deal...Believe me, you don't want to own Tesla without a warranty...My 2021 M3 had faulty HV battery (more common than you think) after 42K miles ,,,replaced under warranty for free,,,out of warranty, the HV main battery replacement cost (part & labor) will be around $16K. For 30K, I would prefer to have a newer Tesla under warranty - especially now that new Tesla vehicle prices are coming down.

    Nice review. I purchased my 2015 model S 85 in March 2023, it only had 34000km on the clock and it looks and drives as good as new. When I purchased it, the dealer fitted new tyres and also had to replace the rear hatch window as the high level stop light was not working. Since then, the only thing that went wrong was the 12V battery required replacement. All the reset of the expenditure is for enhancements. CCS2 upgrade, 16 to 32 amp AC charging upgrade, Drive motor coolant delete, MCU2 upgrade (only due to 3G phased out in AU) and the front bumper face lift from TSportline. Same color too, Monterey Blue. Love it. Car parking can be a challenge as the back of the car is fat. 41000km on the clock now.

    In UK a run a P85 bought from new back in 2014 now 138,000 miles. It had new drive unit at 35,000 (bearing noise, a lot of cars had this) and new battery at 75,000 (coolant leak) both under warranty both took 2 days, pretty faultless machine never stranded me. Theres a world of difference in performance from the S to the P (due to much bigger inverter) really worth the money and the red calipers and carbon spoiler really pop on white or black cars. Most work needed I do as spares are cheap and they are easy to work on, brilliant cars and the classics with free super charging sought after now

  • @bobjones1999

    I'm amazed at how well it kept up for being ten years old! Free Supercharging is phenomenal!
    Although I have a couple questions:
    1. How much legroom is in the back seat? Does the seat fit you well? Headroom?
    2. How long does it take you to supercharge your battery?
    3. What's the ride quality like? Any wind noise? And is the suspension stiff given that it's a sports sedan?
    Thank you!

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  2 місяці тому

      Charging is limited to 80Kw so it will take longer than newer Teslas.
      Back seat room was decent, headroom about 2 inches and 1 inch between knees and the driver seat.
      Ride was good, similar to a Cadillac, newer Teslas are much stiffer. Wind noise was pretty good, surprisingly

      first look up your nearest super charger. my city only has about 15 of them. luckily i live about 3 minutes from one. also consider that for a full charge, on this year of tesla, you might be parked there for about 2 hours for it to charge to a full charge. and if you live in a city with tons of teslas, the wait time would be longer because there could be a line to get to the supercharger. for me its not an issue, but its definitely something to consider.

    I have a 2013 p85d I just bought from my buddy for 25k. 116k miles and a few signs of degradation, mainly the software is ridiculously slow and some of the interior in the trunk is falling down. I also have issues with the rear left handle just as you stated in your video ($400 retrofit quote from Tesla so I’m holding off). However I guess my main complaint is it charges pretty slowly.
    Other than that I’m pretty happy with my purchase, especially when I work down the street from a supercharger and I haven’t paid for fuel since I bought the vehicle (gas prices in CA are $5/gallon right now).
    My battery health is at 90% according to a third party app. I’m probably going to upgrade the mcu and add some better speakers as the sound quality is surprisingly lackluster. Again, I am not disappointed at all with my purchase as the benefits of this vehicle outweigh the drawbacks by far.
    I’d also like to upgrade the front bumper to the newer model look as I think the older one is absolutely hideous 😂. I’ve watched some videos on UA-cam and it looks surprisingly easy but costs about 2k.

Make sure they aren't including the tax credit in that price. I would try to get closer to $12K then add tax credit. It's not a flat $4k credit either, it's a percentage of the price. 20 or 30% of the price, I think.

    My theory has always been that all the Tesla cars up to 2017 were built to make a statement about the quality and reliability of the electric cars. Then when the Model 3 production was started, all the attention to detail had been sacrificed.

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  3 місяці тому

      That actually makes a lot of sense, once they got established, ignore the build quality and throw Power and Range #'s around and people won't care what it looks like.

    • @ExMachina70
      @ExMachina70 3 місяці тому

      @@offtheshelfrides it also has to do with where you put your resources. When the Model 3 was launched to come out, the number of orders to fulfill must have been overwhelming. I don't think Elon wanted to sacrifice any quality of the Model S, but he did have to divide his attention to making sure the latest car not only had met within the expectations of its deadline, but also ensure that the quality of the car had met or exceeded the expectation of the public.
      Elon like Steve Jobs wants the "WOW!" factor in everything he puts out. He knew he was going up against an industry that would curtail him in every way possible, so his way to beat the system was to exceed far beyond any other car company. I just recently bought a 2016 P90D and I can tell you in all honesty that the car is as solid as the day it was built. (Unlike BMW, Merc, etc.)
      My point is based on my experience that comes from owning a pizza business for 4 years. I don't think any "rational" business owner wants to sacrifice quality to save a little money. The best scenario is less expense, equal quality. If you have a strong customer base, you know that anything you change can easily change things for the worse. The problem is, you may be doing something that is destroying your business and never know it, because most people won't outright tell you what you're doing wrong, so when you do make these changes, you need to be REAL careful that it doesn't destroy the very foundation that you had built your life upon. My little experience in business really helped me realize just how little I knew about business.
      Sorry, this came out a bit wordy, and is just my perspective, but I've always loved hearing input from others. I really enjoyed watching your video.

No main battery, Teslar repair center want $15,650 for a rebuilt that only has a 30 day warranty(22k for new battery but no warranty on anything else going out). I thinking to buy one 10-year-old myself. And I hear people around me say the battery will be dead. Very expensive on service. bla bla other pub rumors. So I'm trying to check videos like this one to find out what is reality, It looks like from your video that is actually a good deal.

      Yes, it was still a good car, still a good looking car. I did a couple more videos on this one you can check out. It is still available at the dealership.

      I found a 2014 with 50k miles in my price range. I seriously don’t see the battery being a problem.. it hasn’t even been charged that much.

      This video is 2 years old, coming out of Covid. The car was valued on KBB at $28k and it was 80K miles not 100K miles. But thanks for watching, sir.

      @@CarsportttI'm looking at @ 2013 model S right now with only 30k miles on it one owner. Anything I should know about the maintenance of this model? Also I see there's a upgrade the UI for 2k did you get that or are you still using the older UI.

    This model is getting really really old. I wouldn't buy a new one.

    You were a sucker to pay $30k for an early model S two years ago because they're worth half of that now.

    30k $ for a 10 year old Tesla ? Get a new model 3 instead for 35k

      That might be an option, but there aren't any new Model 3's for $35K.
      Electrek just announced Tesla is working on a version of the Model 3 with cheaper interior parts for $35K

    Wow! Every idiot on the Internet and his mother are complaining about Tesla quality, but I am really surprised how well this car held together for 10+ years. I have seen a lot of German cars looking much worst after 10 years.
    I would imagine the newer models using castings and some new manufacturing techniques will fare even better.
