The Skipper's story is the main proof that there was a World War II in the world of "Cars" and "Planes"
So is Sarge from Cars. His basics was built during WW2.

I personally like this movie. I love all the different kinds of planes we see, I like the message, most of the characters are pretty good, and it's not afraid to get a little dark, loke with Skipper's backstory. The sequel is better, though.

Man, the two Planes movies are so underrated. So much better than the critics said it was
fun fact: the two fighter jets were played by Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards who also played Iceman and Goose in Top Gun.
The villain, Ripslinger was voiced by Roger Craig Smith, who currently voices Sonic The Hedgehog.

Echo and Bravo were two of my favorites, made even better by the fact that one was voiced by Val Kilmer and the other Anthony Edwards, as a nod to Top Gun.

I personally love this movie. Found it moving at times. Love the soundtrack too.
Both the Planes and the Cars movies are very fantastic.
For some reason most people seem to think Planes was just a cheap Cars-copy or something. A lot of reviews also call it very bad and I don't get why at all. It just gets ignored all the time. Maybe the marketing did not do it justice. I actually like the Planes movies a bit better than the Cars movies, personally. So I am really happy to see someone genuinely liking and enjoying it. Really looking forward to your reaction to the second movie.

Here’s a few interesting bits of trivia: Almost all of the planes in the race are based off real air racers.
Skipper is an F4U-1A Corsair which was a warbird used by the US Navy and Marine Corps late in World War II
Dusty is based off the Air Tractor AT-500 family.
The wings he receives from El Chupacabra are from a T-33 Shooting Star, a trainer jet based off the F-80 Shooting Star, a very early fighter jet used by the US and Mexican Air Force after World War II.
El Chupacabra is a Gee Bee, an air racer from the 1930s.
The two fighter jets in the beginning of the movie and help dusty when he’s lost are F/A-18 Super Hornets and voiced by Val Kimer and Anthony Edwards, who played Iceman and Goose respectively in TopGun.
There was a trailer for a third Planes movie set in the future and about a space fighter plane that was teased at the Disney D23 Expo but after the studio responsible for the Planes Movies, Disneytoon studios, was shut down, the movie was cancelled. The trailer is lost media as far as I can tell and the only hint of the third movie’s existence is a screenshot of a concept art.
Isahni is what’s called a “pusher” aircraft where her propeller is mounted aft and pushes the plane forward.

If you compare Doc Hudson and Skipper's backstory. Skippers backstory is more emotional. Even if Doc also had a emotional backstory.
This may be a very hot take, but I think Skipper’s backstory is more tragic than Doc’s, because he didn’t just crash, SKIPPER LED THOUSANDS OF PLANES TO THEIR DEATH! No wonder he didn’t have the courage to fly again, that must have been so traumatizing to watch your own friends die in front of you!
underrated movie wish they collaborated with cars
The thing I really like about Planes is that we learn that WWII happened in the Cars universe. Which means there was a Cars Hitler, a Cars holocaust, a Cars Pacific War, a Cars D-Day, a Cars nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a Cars Rape of Nanking, a Cars Battle of Iwo Jima...
This leads to so many important questions, like: were the Cars Little Boy and Fat Man nukes sentient? Was it a suicide mission? Are ALL Cars nuclear weapons sentient? Did Tsar Bomba have a personality? What kind of car was Car Hitler? A VW? A forklift?
1-Star movie +1 Star for expanding the lore of the Carsniverse (obviously the best cinematic universe in existence).
Little fact the Corsair was nicknamed,The whistling death because of its design, at high speed i would whistle

I saw this movie for the first time during a bus trip to another region of my state with my grandpa. I honestly liked the movie.

I remember seeing this in theatre when it came out back in 2013. I was 10 at the time and it was by far one of the best childhood experiences I ever had
The weird thing is that movie critics channels over UA-cam take this movie as total crap, it may not be a top tier movie, but it is a really good movie to watch, i loved this one, and could not believe how bad this movie got reviewed. In the end i don't care, this movie was a really great time to watch, and i'm glad you liked it, and, i guess you will like to know that most of the planes in the movie, are modeled after real life models, with exception of Ripslinger, all racers are models that do exist in real life, including El Chupa Cabra and Ishani, the most different designs here, although, Ripslinger design is like a mix of some racing planes, i get a extra 300 feel from it, but with a much longer nose.
I´m gonna be honest, I think the sequel to this movie Planes: Fire and Rescue is better in almost every way.
I like Planes, I don't care if it's similar to Cars since I love the Cars franchise, it takes place in the same world, and there was even a short feature on Cars 2, where Mater actually visits propwash junction and meets Skipper and Sparky and says to them they should make a movie about Planes and then they made Planes 4 later after Cars 2, so a bit of forth wall breaking there.
You should watch the Cars short film series, Mater's Tall Tales.

The planes are based on real planes some are more accurate than others but most look mostly the same as real planes
