- Justice campaigner and former Sub-postmaster Alan Bates takes the stand for the penultimate phase of the Horizon IT inquiry. Hundreds of sub-postmasters had their lives ruined by allegations of theft and false accounts by the Post Office, including Jo Hamilton, who was also depicted in the ITV drama 'Mr Bates Vs The Post Office'
Jo joins us today to update us on her fight for justice and compensation, and reveals that she has reached the end of her 'financial journey' after settling in January. She says Alan Bates will 'get a chance to actually tell some things that he hasn't been able to before' when he speaks in the public inquiry for the first time today.

£600,000 is NOT enough for the suffering these people have had to endure!!!
Jo and Alan have my undying admiration for the work they have done in this fight. They come across as pleasant and determined people even after all they have lived and worked through. All the very best to both and to all their cohorts.
More focus should be put on this not as compensation, but retrieving money that was unlawfully stolen from the sub postmasters by the Post Office managers and investigators
Fraud slander theft and false imprisonment bullying
100%
@@AnonAnonUK2024 Along with obtaining money by deceit, extortion, embezzlement.
@michaeltoohey1385 they will end up giving charges of malfeasance - Life imprisonment.
That hideous Vennels should be sent down for what she did to Jo Hamilton alone. There are thousands in similar positions. Thousands, This is Stalinesque Britain,
Obtaining money by deception is a crime. The Post Office should be charged for that crime ( amongst many others).
Complete admiration for this wonderful lady and Alan Bates too - wow! What they have gone - and still go - through is beyond belief. True heroes of the UK and if anyone deserve a Knight and Dame title it's them.
I'm amazed they were able to keep such cool heads in fighting against injustice and Jo and Alan are very good at explaining clearly what happened.
Not a scandal, criminal behaviour!
We need to see Post Office executives and their lying lawyers and investigators serving jail time for this and heavy compensation for their victims and the families of lost victims.
I think Alan should be paid equivalent to the post office lawyers for the work he has done
Lovely lady. Alan is an amazing man, his perseverance and tenacity along with empathy and duty to all the postmasters and right and wrong, whilst staying so level headed and calm is an absolutely amazing combination. It's men and women like these who deserve honours! Not tory cronies ✌✊
Jo, you are a wonderful woman. Well done, you are an inspiration.
well done Jo and thank you for helping to support all the others
Funny how Sir Ed Davey has been erased from all of this. I was lied to is not a defence.
He hasn't been erased.
The truth will emerge.
@@Carl-tc2yb : it did today' he shall we say has been found out of kicking the complaints into the tall grass , Goverment 100% shareholders ......
He has lost all credability, I once thought he was an honourable man.
@@mikew42906ther is precious little honour in the commons ,calling each other honourable is a joke
I was lied to is not a defence.... agreed.... the German generals tried that one in WWII
I simply don't understand why Paula vennels isn't before the inquiry now. Her evidence would enable the inquiry to ask questions of people from the post office and Horizon who appear before her
Probably the dirt she has on others! Plus the two tier justice system, anyone else would be in prison
She is on the timetable and will appear to be questioned
May 22-24.
Justice must be seen to be done and quickly.
Not a chance. This will be strung out (like the postmasters) for many a year to come.
More than likely 😢😢
PLEASE HELP THESE PEOPLE AND MORE !!!
Post Office compensating victims with money they were falsely accused if stealing? In short, compensating victims with the victims' own money...what a joke.
Great presentation and thank you for mentioning the hidden actors... the government and the civil service.
SIR ED DAVEY IN HIDING?
Human trauma is a significant and appalling factor in all related cases, it seems. Never to be forgotten.
There's no hiding place for PO, but it'll be interesting to hear the excuses they produce in the enquiry. Expect to hear "I don't recall", "it wasn't my job", "I didn't know", "I was lied to", "that wasn't me on the tape" etc etc.
Post office are definitely sorry (that they are finally being held to account)
Why are they still allowed to call it a fault, the only ``fault`` was the secret back door access. To have remote access doesn't just glitch itself from software programming, that ``fault`` had to be part of the basic programming. If fujitsu did not have that secret door none of this could have happened, if fujitsu did not use that secret door and alter the postmasters bottom line, none of this would be happening. 100% of all compensation is all on fujitsu, why should any of the compensation money be paid for by the taxpayers?.
It appears the software was glitchy and they used the remote access to try to fix up the accounts. If they had done this in coordination with the subpostmasters it would probably been appropriate. The problem is they let everyone belief the books were all the work of the subpostmasters and blamed them when they didn't balance.
The biggest question was where was all the stolen money. We certainly know where the money stolen from the SPMs went, it went to enlarge PO board members large bonuses.
Yes, and was this all intentional, accounts tampered with in order to pocket the money the subpostmasters were paying in, and leaving the victims of this theft to take the blame?
Does England not have a police force? Where are they? Do they not arrest criminals who come from the upper class?
No. The police literally will not investigate crimes that are being 'investigated' by a government select committee. A very easy example to point to was the partygate incident. The police giving the people fines wouldn't have destroyed peoples lives or caused extreme harm but they literally refused to investigate any of the parties despite the fact that police officers were stationed outside number 10 while the parties were happening until they were directly called out and presented with images of the events.
If the police adamantly refused to investigate even the tiny crimes when MP's or important people are involved there's absolutely no chance when if comes to actually serious crimes where people's entire lives have been ruined like this case by completely sociopathic scumbags.
The police will have a good idea who is involved in this coverup and probably know it goes to the very top of the present and previous governments,it could bring down our political system with top people going to jail .so they will be very reluctant to to touch it ,hopefully they won’t get the chance to refuse
@@Royboy50 Indeed, there have been numerous instances where the "establishment" was involved in various scenarios, and it was deemed not in the public interest to proceed, or a 50-year D-notice was applied. Consequently, my trust in politicians and the police is lacking.
Job done is when those responsible for the cover-up are in jail
I think it's disgusting 🤮
I'd like to know where all of this money paid in by employees went since it seems obvious it never actually existed in the system. Someone benefitted financially.
They were counted as part of the 'profits' of the Post Office. The Post Office doesn't always make profits though in which case the amounts would have been offset against P.O. losses.
@@heliotropezzz333 Apparently over a million pounds were in ''suspense'' for quite a long period. That's where a business keeps funds they can't identify. That certainly makes it seem as though at least someone suspected that was money belonging to the sub.-postmasters.
Post Office ltd was able to be Judge, Jury and Executioner. Paula Vennells and all of the senior Executives, Post Office, Fujitsu and MP's/Ministers in the know HAVE TO GO TO PRISON for the damage done to innocent peoples lives and the lives that are sadly lost. How does Paula Vennells sleep at night!
This is a perfect example that "POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY"
Is that same computer...incharge of our Nuke,s??????😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Let's hope not. It is basically a database system rather than an accounting system so not even suitable for its P.O. purposes.
But where did this money go......?
Nowhere. The money didn't exist. They weren't true losses. The system at busy times would not 'complete' sub postmasters postings or transactions and the system would make repeat attempts until it could 'complete'. However the attempts would still register on the system as transactions producing duplicate, triplicate or multiple postings. This was complicated by Horizon headquarters being able to alter sub-postmasters accounts in real time without them knowing. The Horizon system was a database rather than an accounting system so didn't produce histories of transactions. It was never fit for purpose and they never consulted end users when designing it which is a fatal flaw. The sub-postmasters- repayments to the P.O. were counted among their 'profits'.
What was the press 😊performance at the time?
It is difficult to believe that chief executives did not know that subpostmasters were being prosecuted.
La ball still there 😂😂😂😂😂 when will ITV realise ??😂😂😂
The money is one thing, but the British people want to see these villains brought to book NOT just slapped on the wrist.
And the taxpayer has to pay for it all. Great, isn't it?
The taxpayer takes all the profits from the post office
Totally agree with Jo, the Post office is beyond repair.
It all started on labour's watch, But Ed and Co will blame others .
you mean the Tories, who dont care if innocent people are in jail,
because they would like to send more people to jail for even lesser reasons!
like having other opinions!
There was a lot more evidence that it was continuing under conservative watch, what's your point?
Tory voter I take it....
@@philipjohnkaye8890 This will go back to Blair, as many bad things do.
I wasn’t aware that Ed Davey was the Post Office minister in a Labour government !!!!
My heart goes out to Jo and all the victims. Been destroyed but still smiling. ❤
This all stems from politicians and other time and time again just slavishly believing managers at both the post office and Fujitsu, never even bothering to countenance the thought that the people down the pecking order might actually be telling the truth and they are the ones with honesty and integrity and not the vicar, lawyers and directors.
So glad jo Hamilton has had compensation. Its been for to long for justice. The post office have dragged this scandal out for years . Some people sadly will never see justice. The post office have a lot to answer for. I hope Justice will be met for the remainder subpostmasters who have lost everything.
This is what a prime minister should be, will power no matter what, alongside truth and honesty, she's a spark of hope.
put that compensation amount into horizon and pay them out what comes out the other end out of the bosses pockets.
same with the prison sentences.
And now fujitsu are getting the contract for digital id s , how does that work then ?
So PO is saying they have 'offered' £179m redress to 2,800 Postmasters (which averages £64k each). When did the figure of wronged Postmasters leap from 900 to 2,800? Also, they choose the offered figure over the paid out figure because it is the larger of the two figures and its the far larger figure because many have presumably turned it down as being too little.
Why the Fk was a priest the c.e.o of the post office.?
She will say that it was the will of God who told her to go fourth and lie like a cheap seiko
She's not counting her TIME at a billed rate. Also the toil on her health.
I've said all along that the government is involved in this as well as they owned the Post Office, I'm not blaming the MP's who are in the government now but MP's who were in the government at the time Ed Davies said he was lied to by the PO but he is not doing his job if he does not find out how the ship is being run and that goes for other MP in the government that took over from him

Hillsborough again cover up
It seems lawyers’ fees were extortionate.
don't know if anyones asked this question since the post office scandal came out from the start
the question is i could understand if 1 or 2 people allegely fiddling the books then that would have been ok but as it turns out there were nearly 600+ people taken to court and this should have been a trigger warning to say that there something that dosen't seem right and all the people involved like the judges goverment post office fugitsu should be held accountable by not having a proper inquiry in the first place and they should of held off sending people to prision and ruining people livlyhoods until they done a proper investagation and the people who were at the company at the time like ceo's and managment team should be held liable because it happened under there watch
Q: Where did all the money go that they accused these innocent individual(s) paid into the post office system? Plus, why didn't they investigative team hire a "computer forensic investigator" in the first place? That's suspect as well? Just saying...🧐🧐🧐
It's cultural, it's not even ideological.
She should have been given several million pounds in compensation at least years ago, it is disgusting thanks several politicos and governments, Judges, lawyers, staff at all levels in The Post Office and Fujitsu, she is the one STILL suffering, whilst all the REAL criminals walk free.
No full and FINAL.
Most TV stations are run on repeats so would it not be pertinent for this program to be re-run on a monthly basis so the case can be kept upper most in the publics mind! All those involved in the persecution of the SPM's have to be brought to book, whoever they are!
Not the former Queen, I think he means The Late Queen.
Crozier has been thoroughly briefed and managed to navigate through the initial phase of the inquiry. Despite being highly compensated for his role, he claimed during the inquiry that he depended on his staff for honesty and transparency. He stated, "I am not an accountant, nor am I familiar with the legal actions taken by the company's lawyers." This statement is questionable. Common sense dictates that a single Postmaster/Mistress encountering a shortfall would warrant an investigation, but the occurrence of 900 such cases should have raised significant concerns. It seems implausible that so many would risk their jobs, homes, and savings, knowing an investigation would uncover any misappropriation of funds. Crozier's claims of not remembering certain meetings, deflecting responsibility to the legal department, and blaming branch managers are tactically astute. It is hoped that someone with insider knowledge will step forward to reveal the truth. As a shrewd businessman, Mr. Crozier would likely be aware of all financial dealings. He may face minimal consequences, while those below him struggle to protect their reputations. This case is profoundly troubling and sets a concerning precedent.
Well I had to deal with a dodgy mobile game at first it work well then two years late after a software update the software became faulty and customer support was beyond appalling. If knew about this common flaw on new downloadable content that can cause the software to become faulty thats why great customer support important to always check before purchasing and downloading. If the software developer got dodgy customer support then the online services is not fit or purpose.
Have you never thought they programme a downturn in performance after a certain time limit? the update was the programmes prompt to initiate a pre planned downturn. Why would they want you happy and content when they can force you to ``pay`` for the newer version?.
