Crazy how it’s 20 plus years later and nothing about what they were talking about has gotten any better
Yep.... The song could have been talking about current events....
@@zoluhwa3508 Well, Slipknot said it "people = shit".
Because the system likes it how it is
It's not in the interests of the wealthy to fix our ever-growing mental health crises, point blank. When we're killing each other and ourselves, we aren't standing up for our rights. When our minds are broken, we're malleable.
A never ending cycle....
P.O.D is from San Diego. They were held up in traffic on the way to a session and found out it was due to a school shooting. They wrote this during that timeframe
On a more serious note, this song was written on the day of the santana high school shootings in san diego. The band was recording a few miles from the school and could hear the sirens. They found out what happened, marcos came up with the riff and sonny just laid it all out.
This year was an awful terrible violent year the year the song came out, and the two before it weren’t much better. I was in my early twenties then
@@rainerader1182 same. I was in college in SD at the time. I met the band during a meet and greet midnight release on 9/11. Awesome night, the next morning, well we all know what happened.
Ya'll should do their song "Southtown". Love that hook...and that riff too.
You know?... That sh1t don't play. Still not sure if I'll live to see any other day
I love Sonny’s scream on that too. How it breaks a little. “Like THIIIIIIIII IIIIIS”
Yes! I love this song!
Yes! My fave POD song! Off the Little Nicky Soundtrack
Southtown is 🔥
POD is old school and bad ass!!
ALIVE & SOUTHTOWN are bangers as well
I was honored to see them live when they came back for their anniversary shows. Always a good vibe and deep meanings in their music, so I’m glad you enjoyed this
Sonny is a very underrated lyricist. He has a great flow and cadence. POD were one of the first to do the rap/rock and did it well. Many copies out there like early Saliva.
This song was fire. Takes me back to high school. I was like you guys, I knew the hook but not the verses and the verses give it a lot more meaning.
Longtime P.O.D. fan here! Y'all should definitely check out "Southtown", "Boom", "Rock The Party"and "Alive"
Saw these guys open for Linkin Park on the Meteora tour. Amazing show!
For an old P.O.D. song, definitely check out “Southtown”. This was the first song I heard from them when it came out in the late 90s and it is still one of my favorites.
Man, haven't heard this song in years, such a powerful yet kind of under appreciated song! great lyrical analysis! Love you guys
As soon as I heard this song when it dropped, I made sure it was in my daughter's arsenal. I wanted it for her anthem. She's 20 now & serving in the Navy. Dope reaction, guys. 💙 from Texas.
When I was in high school I was in a youth group and my pastor was in a band that opened up for POD. Kinda forgot about that til now. Thanks for the throwback!
P.o.d. Is a fire band flow, lyrics, riffs, and a real positive christian message much love trash talkers. \m/
I wouldn't say there is anything inherently Christian about the message in this song.
was a fire band.
@@Docstantinople they’re still around today I believe
@@noahwallace6006 oh cool
The video to this song makes it so much more powerful of a song.
I love this song, when the chorus is repeated is so goosebumps 🙌🙌❤️✌️
I've always loved the drumming and bass in this song. This one gives me goosebumps and makes you think which is always a plus in my book. As someone who had a cousin that was murdered and lost several friends tragically, I always wish I had more time with them. It makes me think of my own life and never knowing what each day might bring. Thanks guys for this one.
Jeff Cobbs finisher is the Tour of the Islands
Thanks for this
RIP Layne Staley 20 years ago yesterday we lost you. I would like to recommend Mad Season Wake up. Band consist of Layne Staley from Alice n Chains and Mike McCready guitarist 🎸 from Pearl Jam.
I’m a pastor, and one of the reasons I always liked P.O.D is because they are real. The album that this song was on came out on September 11th, 2001. Life isn’t always easy.
Kinda funny, another album that dropped that day was Slayers, "God Hates us All"
..
@@SortenRavn which is ironic bc Slayer was/is a Catholic band
@@corysimmons5701 not (entirely) true..
Tom is the only catholic/believer afaik
Dosnt make the whole band catholic
This song came out the same year as 9/11 and I was in middle school. The verse always captured me as well as the hook. Surprisingly they are a Christian metal band. I also liked “Alive” and “Boom” as an athlete in high school.
i'm just sad you didn't watch the music video? epic visuals. missed out. dang.
@Big Homie Steve The Metal Head facts. the background of the band in the video will always be something I remember.
Great song POD, payable on death.
Finally!!! P.o.d. Is my absolute favorite band of all time. They hit so many genres, from rock to rap to reggae and jazz, and its all so smooth. Hope u give them so more listens especially their older stuff!
Lyrically this song always reminds me a bit of Everlast - What it's like
This song still takes my breath away and brings a tear to my eye, every time. Such power and truth.
💯% absolute power and truth
RHCP song “The Heavy Wing” off their new album Unlimited Love. That song gets nothing but love in the RHCP forums.
Love this song! Alive is another great track of there’s
Same!! And I agree!! My older brother got me into their music!!
Kinda forgot how good this song is.
Dude, I heard this song on the radio this morning for the first time in foreeeeeeeeever and I thought maybe I should have the Grannies check it out and 10 hours later I see this reaction. CRAZY!!!
Those synchronistities man!
Jeff Cobb. A tour of the islands ... it's a 180 powerslam.
RA - Do you call my name!! Catchy af 👌
South San Diego represent. These Fellas were My Neighbors growing up. They are humble, down to Earth, good People. Check out South Town its about our neighborhood
P.O.D does stand for Payable On Death. Great band. Song still relevant after 20 plus years.
Great Song..!
Hollywood you look like you didn't know this song was this deep, it's about depression and how that can take you to a very dark place where you think suicide is better
The greatest quote about the judgement of the new generation was on a show called true detective. Every generation has a old man saying that the world is going to hell, and you know what happens, that old man dies and the world keeps on spinning.
That song gets instant upvote, without even watching the episode.
Man, this brings me back. I was 25, I think, when this song came out. The shooting at Columbine high school had just happened about 2 years earlier, I believe... the same year my first son was born. This song made my heart break into a million pieces because it made me realize that future was in store for my son. This culture, this society we live in here in the US is so gun-happy - I guess this was when I really realized that my son would potentially someday have to contend with the threat of a school shooting. I felt so sad that day.
It's not the gun culture that's the issue in the US. It's the not caring about our kids and not raising them right with respect, honesty, and love that is the issue.
Columbine wasn't about guns. It was about students who were constantly bullied and got tired of the shit they were put through. Maybe if the parents and teachers took more active roles in stopping the bullying and other bullshit, the shooting wouldn't have happened.
They also tried blaming the game Doom for Columbine as well. It's never the game or the gun's fault. It's the parents and teacher's faults for not getting involved.
You can't blame an inanimate object for the actions of those doing wrong.
If you do, you should blame hammers and other power tools for deaths as well. Which scientifically speaking has more deaths related to WORKPLACE injuries than GUNS.
saw them last summer...all of us 40 thru 60's year olds singing Youth of a Nation loud and proud LOL
I love me some P.O.D......Great reaction guys!
One of the Dallas rock stations organizes a big show every year. Last September the bands were: Ayron Jones, Mammoth WVH, Candlebox, P.O.D., CheVelle, and The Offspring. It was my first time seeing any of those bands. GREAT show. The lead singer for P.O.D. was energetic as hell. And of course CheVelle was awesome. Sure would like to see another reaction. 😉
More P.O.D PLEASE!!! 👌
Thanks for doing this one guys. Like Blink 182's Adam's Song, Everlast's What It's Like or Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai, there's a strong important message if you look closer. P.O.D. is one of the few Christian bands/artists that I find has enjoyable music. And yes, they are indeed from San Diego, CA. I'm gonna agree with a couple others here and say Southtown is the next one to hit from them.
Jeff Cobb - finisher is Tour of the Islands / Wrath of the Gods (Reverse-spin scoop powerslam), Cobb performed as "The Monster" Matanza Cueto, using a mask and a boilersuit. As for POD, they remind me a little of Dead celebrity Status
God this brings back early 2000's vibes 🖤🤘. Brooo, you guys need to react to Sleeping Awake by P.O.D. It's a DOPE track
I was in high school when this song came out. It was a few years after Columbine. This song hit hard then and unfortunately it still hits hard now 💔
Official video is a must! This song brings me to tears more often than not. I attended Santana High School, which prompted this song,, albeit many years earlier but these guys hit all the buttons on this song, and they're from San Diego, South Bay where I grew up before moving to Santee where I eventually went to Santana.
This was a sensational song back in college 20 years ago. Tragic theme but the rhythm is absolute fire.
Oh dang
Thats them home town boys P.o.D is San Diego Ca based where everyone is 6degrees from them. Great guys always givin back to the community. My kid got to take a pic with WUV (drummer) at a Deftones Rise Against concert.
Grew up in the same hoods.
Satellite is another great song.
This song happened shortly after a school shooting that happened at a high school near their practice studio. Late 90s
Brings me back to to high school when it came out since I was one of the outcasts
Youth of the Nation.
Nation of death.👏👏👏
I moved to cultured Europe years ago. Feel so safe.
anytime I hear title of this song, it also reminds me of "Amy Macdonald - Youth Of Today" which is totally different vibe, but I like it
For rap metal
You all need to check out some of the songs from the judgment night movie soundtrack
After run DMC anthrax anthrax Public Enemy collab.
This soundtrack was the next evolution of rap metal
Some killer combos
Such a memorable song & is a total shoo-in for a 90s compilation
One of the songs that always make me 😭
Check out "Hollywood undead " they sound alike...
you have to do southtown by them, its also a banger
This song still rings true to this day. Too many people are still going out and doing the mass shootings. 😭💔 And not enough is being done to stop it before it happens. 😡 All those innocent souls may they continue to rest in peace.
Seen these guys at a all age music fest and they had the kids come on stage to sing the back up vocals. Awesome!!!
.
Jeff Cobb's finisher is "Tour of the Islands"
Alive by them another great
I don't know if you've listened to Rise Against before (I'm still going through y'all's catalogue), but "Make it Stop (September's Children)" is another song that's lyrically like this talking about how society effects kids. It makes me cry fr fr.
Southtown!!!!
Also this album, SATELLITE, that has Youth of the Nation on it was released on 9/11.
P.O.D were from the streets of San Diego -- as they refer to it Southtown. Check out their song Southtown and Boom.
Guys,I just listened to Southtown , after seeing all the commenters mention it......BRUH(S)......YOU GOTTA DO THAT SONG!! 😁
Smoky is so good on guessing titles, he should get a plaque for it lol
What a Song!
Haven't seen you guys since BabyMetal haha glad to be reintroduced
They are from San Diego CA.
So much goodness available by P.O.D. my recommendations - Southtown, Goodbye For Now, Satellite, The Messenjah
WUT? Jeff Cobb reference haha! I think he's in NJPW right now. His finisher is Tour of the Isles. He's awesome.
Great reaction. I think you nailed the message right on the head. I think the point of the song is that we are all in this together and we have to look out for each other.
Saw these guys twice. Once in a night club and second time when they opened for Linkin Park
Falling awake that they did for the second matrix is epic as well
This is the kind of music we need today. Listened to this song back in middle school back in 2006 I’m 30 now :/ all those pictures in the back are actual victims. They wrong this song in traffic and there was a school shooting around there I think. 2 killed and some injured.
Orange 9mm also mixed rock and metal and rap. Songs like “Touching Skies” emphasized the rap more but they were a cool band also
I kick myself for not catching POD and Jinjer when they were in PHX last month. I never saw either live in concert.
This song hit home every time I hear it it has meaning
Dude hit the thumbs up video even before the intro began. Love P.O.D. you should check out either Alive or Satalite. Dude this songs tits! The drums in this song is awesome! I think this was their fist song followed by Alive. Yes P.O.D. stands for Payable On Death. As far as I know they changed the name because when they were up and coming. Sonny the lead singer. His mum passed away so it was like a tribute to her.
Another one of my favorites from that era is New Found Glory - My Friends Over You.
My Fav by P.O.D. is called, "Rediculous" \m/ - groove jam!!
I dont think I will be able to get this song out of my head at any point today..hahaha
A friend of mine was the lead singer of The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster
'Mister Mental' was the song featured in the film Shaun of the Dead 👍 they are a British Psychobillie Band that formed in 99 (no sure your ready for them but now you know😜)
This was real popular in the early 2000s. The whole Satellite CD had some great songs with catchy hooks but with deep meanings. You have to realize that the album came out around the time of school shootings becoming a common occurrence. I kind of compare this song to Pearl Jam's Jeremy from a decade before Youth of the Nation. Both songs make mention of kids or teens that were misunderstood and mistreated or looked out as an outcast because they didn't fit in. If you haven't seen the video for Jeremy, I recommend it, even though it may be disturbing. And that was also based on a true story btw.
Song was released in the wake of the columbine shootings. Culminating in a shooting at a high school near them. If memory serves they wrote the song in 45 minutes once they saw cop cars driving to the shooting.
No longer the youth of the nation, but I was when this came out, brings back memories.
Also I know you've seen strapping young lad but the song love is pretty badass if yall haven't seen that either
If y’all like P.O.D. You should check out “Pillar-Fireproof”and “Thousand Foot Crutch-Push”. 2 bands from that same time era w a different sound but just as great!
Saw them live in Philly at the Electric Factory only 5 rows back. They brought up kids from the crowd to sing the chorus. Such a great band!
I saw this group live two separate times in Indianapolis and I've been listening to them since pretty much their first album
Gotta give their song Goodbye For Now a listen
I recommend you to react "Three Days Grace- Animal I Have Become" is a very good band. It's so worth it!❤️
Hook, Yeah, you need to react to Blues Traveler "The Hook"
Totally unrelated, you guys should check out some Rise Against...
So many bangers. Lost in forever (scream version), will you, execute the sound, sleeping awake, Southtown, alive, boom
Cobb's finisher is a spinning scoop slam
Hardest song, lyrically, from the early 2000s.
Oh P.O.D
One fact about them they made together Colab with Rey Mysterio from WWE song is called “BOOYAKA 619”
But they have many great songs!!!
It’s NUMETAL yes
Id love to see a reaction to “Awnaw” remix by Nappy Roots featuring POD. GREAT COLLAB and Nappy Roots was classic back then.
U sir,had a great taste in music
Thank you for this. Such a great melancholic flashback 🖤
I also liked 'Goodbye For Now'
