Thank you for providing some options for Vegetarians and to not interchangeably use Vegan and Vegetarian. Could you do a second part if you find more options?
What I found living with some Japanese students at college was that their idea of vegetarian always skipped over stocks, garnishes, seasonings etc. They would say that something was vegetarian, when actually they meant with vegetables instead of meat as the main part. But 9/10 times it would still have a bone broth base, or dried fish flakes etc.
@@Wra8hunfortunately it’s just not that simple, as that is likely to sound like you’re asking for vegetables but without the broth. But the vegetables would have likely been cooked in that broth anyway. You’re essentially asking to sample someone’s culture but also changing that culture - it just doesn’t work out. Especially in Japan, such care is taken to make the recipe just right, and then maintain that consistency, trying to make off-menu dietary alterations down to individual ingredient is just not going to fly.
@@echo71515 eh, I don't know about "sampling/changing the culture". Vegetable broth is also used in Japan, if less common. And swapping/leaving out one ingredient for some customers has 0 cultural impact 😂 I get what you mean though, that they cook it in one broth. You always have the right to ask just as they have the right to refuse. I'm sure it depends especially in touristy places or if they already have "vegetarian" options.
Nice video! My vegetarian partner and I are always very grateful for coco ichi's vegetarian menu - we've had a lot of bad experiences with salads and tofu being covered in shrimp and bonito flakes, so it's great to have a reliable hot meal to fall back on. A heads up to people visiting, that not every coco ichi has the veggie menu though! Make sure to search online first, there's usually at least one or two in each big city though that have it 😊
wonderful video - thank you for making and sharing!! i'll be bookmarking for the day i get to travel there. so funny, a good bowl of ramen here in california costs minimum $20, so that $9 ippudo gourmet ramen sounds (and looks) delightful.
Great info and style, though the audio could be better, kind of incoherent at moments. Had this great Deja Vu feeling too, I don't know why, must be me getting old...🙂
Thank you so much for watching; your feedback is much appreciated 🙂 Some of the places visited were quite noisy, which can lead to audio difficulties. We're always trying to improve our content, so stay tuned for our upcoming videos :-)

Going to Japan soon, I´m vegan, and gonna visit 2 of your food-spots. Thanks for the video and cheers from Berlin :) (Btw. nice music)
I never really trust "vegetarian" curry in Japan - it often contains chicken or beef broth. And "vegetarian" ramen often has bonito or fish sauce. Same with tamago roll.
Hi! Thanks for watching (again). You're right, we re-uploaded the video. It was brought to our attention that the udon soup from Fujisoba, shown in the last part of the video, contains fish, so we wanted to add a content information about that. 🙂
Please considering traveling to Taiwan, you will find a paradise for vegetarians
thank you so much I was so worried about going to travel one day and not finding vegetarian options in japan because i know how much they love fish

While I agree, what other options are there to trust? I can tell them no meat/fish broth but that's all I can do

Darling why don't you try some Indian vegetarian food and let us know if we can come there....😊
Japanese curry always looks awful to me but as the rule of curry goes the weirder it looks the better it tastes
