    Rod, you did a great job with this video. Since following a training plan with you I have not been sick or injured AND I am faster. Thank you for being a great friend, coach, and paddle buddy. Staying in shape is great for when we want to race but really it’s about staying in shape to down wind!!!!

    Apart from any over training issues saving your absolute 100% for race day means your best will always be on race day so you dont end up being disappointed because your effort was less than your training sessions...and its not about winning, its the reward of having done your best

      Agree 100%. If you did your best and emptied the tank on the race course you can’t ask for anymore!!

    Have you always trained using a HRM? How do you feel about HRM training vs training with target speeds etc.?

      Most of my adult life I trained by RPE only. Because of this I was chronically over trained. I have been training with a HRM now for about a year and I have improved without illness and injury.
      I think training without a HRM can be done. Personally, I really need the HRM on my easy days to make sure I am keeping my HR in the correct zone.

      RPE (rate of perceived exertion) training can be very effective, as long as the athlete can effectively gauge their effort levels, but the precision of a good HRM is very helpful. Target speeds are difficult to utilize in paddle sports because so many variables (like wind, current, chop, etc) affect speed. The HRM takes guesswork out of the equation and ensure quality effort no matter the conditions (most of the time).

    no new video for a while :) curious what you guys think of downwind in Outer Banks area

    • @ThePaddleChannel
      @ThePaddleChannel  3 роки тому

      Yeah, Steven, it's been a bit since we last posted -- sometimes other things get in the way of the fun stuff. We're still paddling, though, and hope to have time to get more vids up soon. We haven't had the opportunity to downwind in the Outer Banks (though we've seen some amazing bumps there) -- you might contact Barrier Waterman (www.barrierwaterman.com/about.htm) -- they might be able to give you some insight. Come back and let us know what you find out!

      LOL, yes, we're still kicking. :) It's been a busy year with lots of changes. We were talking about you just last week actually, and how much we always appreciated your comments/feedback. We should be getting back into the groove with videos soon, hopefully.
