It's okay, I probably was slow at the start too but now I get like 80-90 wpm on average because i type a lot when gaming and also talking with friends on discord. My tip on getting a lot of wpm is just try typing a lot naturally. And it's okay if you aren't a fast typer not everyone is the same, also even though I type fast(111 wpm was my best) I personally find fast typing not that useful unless you are working somewhere where you need to type fast. Hope this comment helped :) You can improve if u want to :D

@@reginaldspectre6512 Exponential growth means that it is proportional to a^t whereas linear is just t ("a" is a constant, "t" is time). Main point is he is saying that the rate of increase in typing speed does not increase with time.
Well it's not technically a linear function; generally speaking, according to the "power law of learning", learning processes can be displayed as a positive powerfunction; You learn a lot, relatively quickly and then it tapers off towards a certain "skill cap" which you can only reach by absolutely pushing yourself. That is when content becomes more complex and difficult, or when skills become more and more difficult to automate/perform. (i.e. where the "learning curve" starts to really get steep.) However, regarding progress: You do most progress relatively early on. Think about it: Say you were learning to play the guitar. You learn the basics in a few months, some more intermediate things follow that, and a few years of consistent daily practice, learning becomes slower and slower as the content "to be learned" becomes more and more advanced. It's like that with professional tennis players as well. They learned the majority of the skill within a few months very quickly, but the progress that sets them apart is done relatively slowly over the course of several years of practice. You can earn 60% of proficiency of a certain skill within months or a few years, but the other 40%, to truly make you a pro-guitarist or tennis player, will take you several years (if not at least 10 years, for extreme levels of skill, like professional musicians and tennis players). Same thing goes for forgetting content. The "power law of forgetting" postulates that you forget the majority of content very quickly at first, and it then slows down after a while, taking longer and longer to completely forget what you've learned. Forgetting can be displayed with a negative powerfunction. Same thing goes for typing. When you first start out, your speed can increase a lot within just a few months of practice, but after that, getting from say 130/140 words per minute to 150 (like Ali) will take you a lot more practice over a longer stretch of time. This is where an "increase" in your abilities (direct palpable improvements) start to taper off and slow down. You're still making progress, but at a slower rate than when you went from 40WPM to 80WPM within a few weeks.
11:16 The reason for making noise as you are typing is that audible feedback confirms whether or not you've struck a key, if you struck a key one or two times, or when you have released the key. maybe try a different keyboard layout? the two more popular are dvorak and colemak. colemak is closer to the default which is qwerty, but dvorak causes less hand pain i think. you should check it out
I think I'm the only person who has this feature in chrome, since I've seen absolutely no one talk about this feature in the internet, the feature is: when you type in a website and press tab, it lets you search with that website. So for youtube, you just type youtube (or if it autofills for you, the better), then press tab, type the thing you want to search then click enter, it will redirect you to youtube with the results of your search. I've seen absolutely no one talk about this and it makes me sad to be honest. You can also add certain websites if it doesn't let you do it at first, but not all websites are compatible though especially if the thing your searching doesn't pop up in the address bar.
what you're talking about is search engines. if you visit a website, sometimes they'll add a search engine for that website to your browser automatically. however you have to visit a website that was programmed to do that (e.g. a shopping website). otherwise, you can just make your own search engines. the cool thing is if you make your own search engines you can specify your own keywords. so for example for UA-cam, my keyword is yt. whenever I type in yt in my browser, it switches to my UA-cam search engine. browsers are meant for search engines and I think the real reason why people don't know about this is people the average person doesn't really understand what a search engine really is and how search engines aren't decided by the browser. in fact, if I wanted, I could use my address bar to search my UA-cam search engine by default, only searching Google if I type in a keyword like gg. btw, a fun fact, you can use your browser address bar to go through your computer's file system as well

Get yourself a really nice sounding keyboard. But before doing so ask your mate if they prefer clacky, clicky or thocky sounds and then chose your keyboard setup from this infromation. Then tastefully type infront of your mate something which sounds productive, then act as if you are stuck and ask them for assistance on how you can continue your text. That should work out
Doing 10-20 minutes of typing tests everyday to increase your typing speed is criminally underrated. I started out at 80wpm and now I'm at 102wpm, only 3 days of practice.
once you do it for a while, like a month or two. you begin to reach your peak. and you maintain that for a while. you may increase your average another 10-20 after a year of practicing but after that. There is no more gain but rather, maintain

Hi, Ali. After watching your video, I was very determined to improve my typing speed. First time, my typing speed was around 26 WPM. After practising 30 hours, I finally improved my speed to 67 WPM. Love you From Bangladesh.
i can relate to alot of the things you pointed out in this video. I've practice typing almost every day for the past 3 years and my typing speed has gone up by almost 70 wpm, Ive learned keyboard shortcuts for windows (I do have a mac but dont feel like learning the shortcuts for it since i dont use it that often), the spotlight search that you do on mac, you can press the windows key and type the name of the program and press enter, then it will open. I've gotten used to typing on a mechanical keyboard and a laptop style keyboard, and can type slightly faster on a laptop keyboard. one thing i do though is i only use the left shift key and not the right one.
"In case you're wondering, I hit around 155 WPM on a good day, and if I'm feeling particularly sluggish, I will be hovering around the 140 WPM mark." Bro is just flexing at this point lololol

bruh wtf is wrong with dude. like this guy tops the university, has a million subscriber, can type really fast. has an insanely big monitor. why didnt god make me like that?
My normal is around 120 w/min, but I've gotten my hand injured (pink has 80% feeling loss as of almost 2 months now with very slow recovery, ring finger same but then around 40% feeling loss) and oh my is it a HASSLE to even try to write anything on a keyboard now. I think if I genuinly tried (which I will do after this comment and update it) I'd be at 40 w/min maybe 60. Oof. It doesn't surprise me I am normally a fast typer, I am both a classical pianist of 15 years by now (started age 6), a gamer and a hobby-time writer. Awesome video my dude Update: After testing, it turns out I have currently dropped from 120 w/min to a decent 80 w/min. And that with 2 fingers almost not to not at all functioning. Quite proud of myself.
Another very efficient way of improving your Type Speed is to play Competitive Online Games. Just use the first few seconds at beginning of each round to be toxic to your allies and enemies. You might learn useful shortcuts aswell. Commonly used would be KYS.
since I often play online games with toxic players I'm used to typing all the time. I don't know whether or not that helped me get to 100 wpm but I'm just gonna say it did for the memes
This is actually true, my cousin who was a gamer plays warcraft (back when warcraft was the shit), and always complains and commands his teammates, in order to command and get mad at them simultaneously, he only needs a little bit of time to do that, you wouldn't believe me if I tell you he just made 6 sentences( 4 commands, 2 complaints) in 4 seconds, that's 90 wpm.
This is a real thing, I never took typing classes at school, but I’ve been playing pc games since WoW WOTLK, and I type at around 100 wpm without even noticing
For anyone who's a gamer, or old school gamer particularly, play Typing of the Dead. Great to practice quick reactions, and also typing words and sentences. Also, for the loud typing, I agree. For me, if I can't hear it, I don't know if I've properly typed it, causing doubt and double checking, or sometimes keys don't register, etc. Essentially, no confidence in the type. With sound, you know you've got it and typed it. So that's just me
Hey about the loud, forceful typing. I used to do that in my youth too. I typed VERY loudly, and over 110 wpm on dvorak. Annoyed the hell out of coworkers but it was just habit. The more in the flow I was, the louder, harder, faster it got. But as I aged (now mid-50s), I developed all kinds of RSI problems in the hands and fingers (not wrists), in spite of having always been heavily focused on proper ergonomic desk setup and posture. (And using two mice with alternating hands, the rare times I use them. And also augmenting keyboard with footpedals.) I've even had to switch to heavily modified ortholinear split programmable keyboards with ultra-light, very short throws, and had to design my own layout over several years. I believe that my very heavy, agressive typing was what caused my RSI, because there were no other complicating factors. The obsessive focus of ergo keyboards helped some, but what really turned things around was focusing on as light a touch possible, and keeping the fingers as close to the keys as possible. In general, moving the fingers themselves as little as possible, and using as little force as possible. It also ultimately helped me speed up. (I'm not yet back up to 110 wpm on my own radically different layout, but steadily climbing. Age/slower learning, and slowly improving RSI has definitely slowed the learning curve - not like it was when I could switch from 100 wpm on qwerty to 110 on dvorak in 1.5 years in my 30s. But I'm nearing 70 wpm.) Maybe you won't face that same fate, but just in case I'd strongly recommend making that adjustment now, just in case!
Those are all good points. The light touch method helped me immeasurably, along with getting a mechanical keyboard with very light switches. My error rate went up very slightly, but I have a lot more longevity before my hands tire or hurt. I've tried dvorak, but I don't think my brain has the elasticity to pick it up lol.
@@gwineafowl208 thought of this before. Tried typing a bit while paying attention to what thumb i use to press space bar. It seems that i alternate thumbs depending on how far the key i just pressed is from home row. But it dose seem i use my right thumb more. Part it might be because i got used to using thumb for . , ? Rather than other fingers.
typing is hella fun though, i'm actually typing this using the method of not looking and muscle memory. It's super fun, i'm only learning so that i can argue faster in among us. What am i doing with my life? :{}
So, I watched this video 3 weeks ago, and I think I bumped my writing speed from 56 to 90 already. Then we had an essay-type quiz today that needed 10 sentences and is due for an hour. I managed to type it in around 10 minutes and now my teacher doubts that I answered it honestly LOL
I would also recommend some shortcuts I use super often on windows (I don't have mac so 🤷♂️) ( *keyboard shortcuts* ) windows + e > opens file explorer windows + d > shows the desktop ctrl + o > usually to open a file (I use this mainly in my text editor but also works on photoshop etc) alt + f4 > closes the current window alt + f4 (when being on the desktop) > gives you a prompt to either turn off / restart / suspend your computer alt + tab > switches quickly between your opened apps ctrl + tab (in firefox) > allows you to switch between opened tabs ctrl + t (in firefox) > open a new tab f6 (in firefox) > select the search bar to type in your search directly shift + left (/right) arrow > select text character by character ctrl + shift + left (/right) arrow > select text word by word end (/start) + shift > select a whole line of text ctrl + a > select the whole text in a document ( *mouse shortcuts* ) double click on a word to select it triple click on a word to select the whole line also, hitting the windows key then typing the name of the app you want to use is much faster than searching for it in any other way
dont forgot windows key + anything in your taskbar and the number in its location like say i had discord open in my 2nd taskbar at the bottom i just press windows key + 2 and i would instantly open it, much faster than alt tabbing
ctrl + l > Go the the address line in browsers and file explorer ctrl + w > close tabs ctrl + shift + tab > switch between tabs in other direction alt + shift + tab > switch between apps in other direction ctrl + home > go to the start of the document/page ( ctrl + end is the opposite) Also use of ctrl + arrows is very handy.
Thank you for this Ali. I learned to touch type in the early 1970's - at commercial college a hood was placed over the typewriter (no computers then!) keyboard so you COULDN'T look at the keys.
You can also add certain websites if it doesn't let you do it at first, but not all websites are compatible though especially if the thing your searching doesn't pop up in the address bar.
holy shit this is amazing
This is extremely common. I use it everytime n everyday
Thanks for this. Only seems to work for youtube though.
Thank you for the tip!
what you're talking about is search engines. if you visit a website, sometimes they'll add a search engine for that website to your browser automatically. however you have to visit a website that was programmed to do that (e.g. a shopping website). otherwise, you can just make your own search engines. the cool thing is if you make your own search engines you can specify your own keywords. so for example for UA-cam, my keyword is yt. whenever I type in yt in my browser, it switches to my UA-cam search engine. browsers are meant for search engines and I think the real reason why people don't know about this is people the average person doesn't really understand what a search engine really is and how search engines aren't decided by the browser. in fact, if I wanted, I could use my address bar to search my UA-cam search engine by default, only searching Google if I type in a keyword like gg.
btw, a fun fact, you can use your browser address bar to go through your computer's file system as well

Get yourself a really nice sounding keyboard. But before doing so ask your mate if they prefer clacky, clicky or thocky sounds and then chose your keyboard setup from this infromation.
Then tastefully type infront of your mate something which sounds productive, then act as if you are stuck and ask them for assistance on how you can continue your text.

i can relate to alot of the things you pointed out in this video. Another very efficient way of improving your Type Speed is to play Competitive Online Games. Just use the first few seconds at beginning of each round to be toxic to your allies and enemies.

James Charles:👁👄👁
Hey about the loud, forceful typing. I used to do that in my youth too. I typed VERY loudly, and over 110 wpm on dvorak. Annoyed the hell out of coworkers but it was just habit. The more in the flow I was, the louder, harder, faster it got. But as I aged (now mid-50s), I developed all kinds of RSI problems in the hands and fingers (not wrists), in spite of having always been heavily focused on proper ergonomic desk setup and posture. (And using two mice with alternating hands, the rare times I use them. And also augmenting keyboard with footpedals.)
I've even had to switch to heavily modified ortholinear split programmable keyboards with ultra-light, very short throws, and had to design my own layout over several years.
But I'm nearing 70 wpm.)
Maybe you won't face that same fate, but just in case I'd strongly recommend making that adjustment now, just in case!
Other people: I'll get mate with my looks and body.

thanks, doc; I'm aiming to reach half your typing speed and now I have an idea how to get there.

i have been voted out so many times because of low typing speeds. everyone has voted before i can even say where i was. (Looking at the keyboard typing with only my middle fingers I have 30-32 wpm, touch typing I have 3-7 wpm on a good day.
@@redmoon6796 you only use your middle fingers?
@@ravin6771 yep. I'm weird like that. IDK why, but i have long fingers and i kind of developed the habit. I'm trying to learn touch typing though, so I hope I will escape from 30 wpm soon.
@@redmoon6796 i use all of my fingers but don't take my eyes off the keyboard. Yeah, ik, ik
@@ravin6771 Thats honestly not the weirdest thing.

Thank you for the useful tips. Something I've found helpful is once you've learned where all the keys are, anytime you're typing, put touch typing into practice. Don't go back to your old method, whatever it may be. Utilize touch typing as much as possible and focus on accuracy; your speed will increase naturally!
