- The United States Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band performing at the 126th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Thursday, January 1st 2015. This band is made up of three Marine Bands from around Southern California. The band members are fully combat-trained and prove that they are as proficient with their musical instruments as they are with their weaponry. Many of these these fine service members have completed tours in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

The Marine Corps hymn reminds me of the day I graduated Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego back in the stone ages, 1968.
Those first warm-up chords are spectacular.
It's always great, all of it. The Marines, dress blues, the great music and precision...but then there's that first step. There's just something rousing when they all step off...."We're the United States Marines, and we're here!" God bless one and all, and thank you for the awesome video!

This is the best rendition of "March Grandioso" that I can find anywhere. Having the trombones out front just gives the march a fullness that you can't get in any other version available.
My favorite March ever. And it is not even a Souza composition.
There is another reason for having trombones out front. It's so they don't poke the person in front of them in the rear with their slide.
@@jkillgrove 🎵"Seventy-six trombones lead the big parade...."🎶 That's a given, but in doing so with the microphones being positioned as they were led to a magnificent sound not found on other recordings that I hav found.
I have been in military bands where trombones marched in the rear with the sousaphones. It's then a different sound you hear because of it.
Greatest band playing greatest song. Our Hymn...thats right it's a Hymn. We see our beloved Corps
our brothers past and present in

Been out of the Corps for over 20 years, and the Marine Corps Hymn always brings a tear to my eye and makes me stand up a little taller. Semper Fi, Marines!
I grew up in a T or R family.
I decorated floats for 18 years until I was old enough to be a T of R member.
2021 is my 39th parade.
I still stand taller, and the tears flow when I hear the Marines coming!
I typically have been up for a week and have had no sleep a couple of days before the Parade.
When I hear the Marines, I know it is New Year's!
(The band as well as the flyover!)

the band harmonizing at the beginning was awesome.
I played in this band in the 1986 Tournament of Roses Parade. It was the absolute thrill of my life.
You can't get a sense of the crowds and the cheering from tv or UA-cam. It's wall to wall people, cheering the entire six miles.
Just incredible to experience.
Lovely memory you have shared! I am a San Gabriel Valley resident and we have always been proud of the Rose Parade's appeal. We volunteered to decorate the floats as kids.

That's a long way to march and playing your horn, too. My longest parade was at the Indy 500 in 1973. Full lap around the track, 2 1/2 miles, in a dark wool uniform and playing the entire time on my trombone.
PISC in 1981, and the hymn STILL causes goose-bumps. Semper Fi.

My sister and her husband marched in the Rose Parade in the Compton College band many, many moons ago and they were exhausted at the end. I'll bet these guys could go another 5 miles before they even got a little out of breath!

How wonderful to hear the US Marines Hymn while the Marines are marching in. I like that Hymn that I developed my own Lyrics with that Song for my BETA EPSILON Sigma Honor Fraternity of UE-Manila in the mid-60s.

Many years ago during time of war I served in the U.S. Navy. The U.S. Marine Corps is part of the Naval establishment. We damn well don't need some jerk who probably never served his country making remarks about them being squared away. This band is good and if something complimentary can't be said just don't say anything.

Our British Royal Marines bands are great - but for sheer bullshit, bravado and showmanship you can't beat the Yanks! Well done, the USMC, and best wishes from this side of the Big Pond.

+John Emmanuel Ramos due to sequestration, Marine bands no longer have the funding to attend Bandfest and the Rose Parade. Putting 150 Marines up in a hotel for 4 days is wicked expensive, and not a justifiable expenditure, according to the federal government.

Unless they have made a last minute change (or you're part of the band), as far as I know, the Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band will be performing in the 2016 Rose Parade. The office ToR website still lists them as a participant. I know that due to funding issues, they don't perform at Bandfest as they have in previous years.

I always thought the Marine Band performed in red uniforms. Does anyone know why they're blue here?
Jacob Hoss The red, if I am not mistaken is used exclusively for concert and mainly used back east for the commandants own.

+Jacob Hoss Red Uniforms are The President's Own in DC. The Marine Drum and Bugle Corps in DC also wears a different red uniform jacket.
That's the regular dress blue Marine uniform
"The President's Own" US Marine Band and "The Commandant's Own" Marine Drum and Bugle Corps wear red. There are also 10 field bands (3 of them performing here together) that wear the traditional blue uniform.
