Service an Aussie Ford by driving an Invacar?!

- Somehow, servicing my Ford AU Fairmont turned into digging out the Invacar and taking the adorable little three-wheeler for a drive. Oh, and the Citroens swapped places too!
Also involves a visit to Aberteifi/Cardigan. Obviously.
Merchandise available from hubnut.org but we won't be processing orders between 22nd December and 8th January. Merry Christmas!

A 53 year old invacar saves the day, well done twc. definitely a car for today's speeds
Great fun, love TWC, love a go in it. Had to laugh *it;s boiling in here * three thick jumpers and a hat in a mild winter will do that :)
Beardcam, TWC and Welsh weather. Just like old times Mr H!
Good old TWC….. put! Bad old TWC… brilliant :-)
The most hubnut of all hubnut videos 😊
Always enjoy a good HubNut outing through Wales, from old buildings to the local High Street, very nice so thank you very much. Great bonus footage, worth a separate video!
It's amazing to see how many people stop to look at the invercar as you go passed 😊❤
They were commonplace at one time but now the majority of people have probably never seen one and don't even know what it is.
Stupid silly car was taken off the road for 1 reason only !!!
@@matthewc.419 Esther Rantzen! 😀
Was that Graham Hill " driving inappropriately" in one ?@@PaddyWV
The oil capacity is 5L with filter, perfect because you don't have bottles with a little bit in the bottom. The power steering fluid is "Valvoline Formula F" and yes it is a specific fluid 👍
5L is a very small oil capacity, a German car would have more like 8L on an engine of that size so in my opinion it will need more than the standard one oil change per year for normal usage.
@@andrewthompsonuk1 Good point. 👍
We want more invacar escapades
Gusty Sidewinds sounds like an ‘adult movie’ star 😂
I love it when TWC wakes up! With her little splutter and ringing noise!
arrr the days of self healing cars, just keep cranking and eventually they fire..... lovely to see it again. 1972, I discovered hot cinnamon donuts as an after school treat, 6 for $2. My mother wondered why I was never hungry when it was dinnertime.
When I worked in a car factory in Coventry in the sixties you had a workspace of 6 metres whilst the car was moving on the track to hang a door and set the gaps.
You can use Dexron III ATF in the power steering pump, or any old power steering fluid. Only issue is it’ll make a bit of noise before the fluid warms up a bit.
Also, Castrol do 6 litre bottles of Magnatec 10W-40 which is plenty for a Falcon six oil change, plus a little bit left in case you need to top up between services. And the service intervals are 10,000km or 3 months, not 5,000km. It’s only 5,000 in extreme use scenarios such as constant outback driving.
TWC, 30 seconds of beard cam and tinkering, happy times! Nice to see TWC out and about.
I love how people look back thinking what is that
Of the collection, my favourite is Tuk. It is a sports car in the truest sense. You can feel like your doing 100mph whilst staying within the legal limits. The downside is that if you lose it at 50mph there would be bits of fibreglass and HubNut all over Wales (and parts of England).
Nice to see the old faithful invacar come to the rescue.
Merry Christmas to you & your family + all subscribers
New 2cv mirror - great last minute christmas gift if Mrs Hubnut needs on for you... 😉😉😉
The AU has a 10000km/6000 mile service interval with the 5000km interval recommended for heavy use, being dirt roads or extreme weather.
TWC has the best engine noise with the pings and dings .
Residents of Cardigan....." who's that " ..." oh that's just Ian doing his thing "
Another marvellous video of motoring oddity. The Aussie Ford makes my R class look sensible and considered. Love it.
‘Citroen Shuffle’ there’s a dance, tune, T-shirt or even a sticker in that phrase right there! Good to see TWC starting like a champ!
Sounds like something 10cc would have recorded. Which would also be apt 😁
Cardigan still has a Barclays! and a cash machine...! More than here. no banks left and one cash machine in the whole town!
A series Fuel going back to the tank, is failed non return valve in the fuel Pumps.
Cheaper petrol than where I live Mr HubNut. This takes me back a few years, a bit of driving and a bit of tinkering. I hope you're all better by the big day comes around HubNuts.
You need a Scotty from Star Trek voice over as TWC gets up to speed. ‘She cannae take it Captain’.
TWC! You little show off! 💕
Ah, Just what I needed, Some TWC footage!😍
I’ve said it many times, and will always say it… ALL TWC VIDS ARE GOOD VIDS!!! ❤
Yay wonderful to see Twc
Hope you All have a Great Christmas and a Happy New Year and managed to get all your cars up and running. all stay safe and well. Richie
About as HubNut as it gets ! Great to see TWC out and about again.
Just commenting to see my awesome members emoji, thanks!
Merry Christmas to you and family ,🏴⛺️🚙
Good old twc doing the chores 🤩
Great to see TWC out and about and coming to rescue for the others in the fleet
20mph limit….
Honda Jazz (Honda Fit outside U.K.) with CVT….with auto & manual speed limiters + cruise Control which works down to 18mph
Baby Honda says “I accept your 20mph challenge”.
Love the old Citroen GSA…so different and unique.
Nice one Ian. All the cars started in the end and Betty had her oil and filter change. The star of the show has to be TWC though, she's had a long nap and saves the day once again. Such a wonderful honest car. Elle expressed her displeasure by binning her mirror and Giselle had a little mardy moment. Many thanks for sharing.
As an Australian I got very anxious when you closed the door with the windows up and the key in the ignition... These Fords have a reputation of locking the doors on themselves. Just in case, wind a window down enough to reach in ;)
I know. I don't usually do that in a car with central locking! Got caught out by a Citroen XM once... Thankfully, because it was French, the boot lock didn't work so I could get back in.
Oil change every 3 months or 5,000 km is what I have always done. It depends on how the car is used and in what conditions. Cold, damp weather and short drives mean it is very important to change the oil that often. Road conditions in Australia are hard on engine oil, which does help to keep the engine a bit cooler. Again, that frequently makes sense. Trailer towing is harder on engine oil as well as transmission fluid. If you do not have one, add a transmission cooler.
With Krown you are best to have it done every year for the first 5 years or so. Let it build up. It kept the old Volvo on the road for 33 years, but alas, Ontario winters have taken their toll. Old Arthur is now a parts car.
Really enjoyed the video look forward to more of the same.
Great to see TWC out again, would be great to see a Myrtle start up and drive around the yard video
Cardigan, the only place I've been to on a motorcycle in England and Wales I was charged to park in a council car park!
New T Shirt idea?
FREE MYRTLE! 😀
Myrtle: SORN and forelorn!
A great video thanks 😊
Fantastic. You can't keep a good TWC down.😎
the recommended way of checking the power steering fluid level is to bring the engine to normal operating temp and let idle and then turn the wheel from lock to lock. Then turn off the engine and check the level
Great Video,
all the best wishes for christmas and a happy new year.
Cheers from Germany
Good to see Betty getting some love. It's a beautiful car and well worth the looking after. Get the paint touched up and the rust proofing re-applied! Happy Christmas.
Of course, sending huge support to Lewis at Whiteland restorations too, another favourite channel.
great video ian! seeing twc always puts a smile on my face, and it seems it puts a smile on your face too when youre having a hoon around 🙂
Always nice to see TWC out and about! Thanks Ian and Merry Christmas to you and all the family :)
A superb wonderful viewing video. It was great to see twc out. Wishing you a very happy christmas and new year to you and the hubnutters. Good Times.
TWC done her trick. Makes you happy. She also bring a smile to my face.
Great video, great to see TWC out and running well. Best wishes .
I have enjoyed all your content this year,Merry Christmas!!!
"chaotic because HubNut" give yourself a break.that was perfect. All due diligence taken care of. Merry Christmas and a very happy new year to you and yours. Lovely to see TWK out and about again, what a treat.
HIS is why we all love you Ian .....have a glorious christmas to you and the family .xxx
That's definitely one way of getting a service done my excuse for not servicing my car is the weather lol
I see it still has a New Zealand WOF sticker on the windscreen!
Just love the channel Ian, very unique 😊😊😊😊
We all need a fair amount of the Fairmont. Have a great Christmas.
Woo hoo, TWC is alive! Good girl. Happy Christmas everyone.
Another good video Ian 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️
Always happy to see some Invacar content!
Thanks for the drive through Cardigan I haven't been there since the last time I was in wales in 2004 when I was back for a visit. Cardigan used to have way too many pubs and car parts places. I remember Keith and Later Andrew James at automech by the cattle market, think it was Arjay on the bridge in the old warehouse and maybe Halfords up the high street apposite Woolworths . The Invacar is a blast from the past as well there was somebody had one in the small Hertfordshire village I grew up in in the 70's and 80's, before going to Wales. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas from SW Manitoba Canada. Take care.
Absolutely brilliant video Ian 👌❤👍nice seeing tuck out again and the faremont brilliant
What planet are you on honestly wtf.
Good old TWC. 1 second layer bad old TWC 😂😂 brilliant
Would have thought Tuc was the ideal vehicle for Wales with the Principality's 20mph speed limit!!!
I literally mentioned this in the video. You'll note I spend a lot of time driving at considerably more than 20 though.
10 litres of motor oil. Also useful as adverse weather ballast.
A joy seeing you out in TWC, top tinkering, always good seeing Betty and top tinkering
TWC was what brought me to this channel it’s sad not to see more of it
As a fairly reliable guide. The crank pulleys on HDi engines generally last around 100k. I’ve seldom see one go much further. Timing belt changes are 100k too so I always did mine together. Keep in mind, it’s a dual mass clutch and they can and do go noisy as they get a bit of wear on them. The bottom crank pulleys are easy to change and even decent to get to. If you drop me a reply I can get some workshop details to you.
Thankfully single mass on the 90bhp.
I got about 150k from mine. Heat and air wrench plus flywheel locking tool and it should be nae bother. The pulley bolt is usually well coated in Loctite, hence heat used to remove. Careful with heat if you are not replacing the pulley. The crankshaft pulley is effectively dual mass (harmonic damper) but the clutch will be on a conventional, solid flywheel on M49 and M59 models.
You need to get the Matiz out & exercised so we don't lose another Cobalt Blue M100. We enjoyed ours for 9 years & still miss it.
Twc is always the star Ian. Simply the best ❤
That was a great video, done the Hub Nut way, love it.
nice to see tuc out n about
The Citroen Diesel engine uses glowplugs, but you'll only see the light come on when the temperature is extremely low. At 0C coolant temp, it only operates for 0.5s, above that it doesn't operate at all.
another great video has always Ian and miss hubnut and hublets and hubmutts 👍
Ooooh Betty (in the style of frank Spencer)
The good old Z9 oil filter, almost universal for Aussie Fords. My 2.0 Cortina always ran the Z9. The Z9s were half the price of the 'correct' and smaller Cortina filter.
nice to see they use the same idle control valve as the mk6 escort/mk1 focus 1.6 zetecs (may be others too)
Surely the Berlingo crankshaft pulley that's failed is the one with the mass damper which is outboard of the cam belt drive ?
Therefore no need to touch the cam belt, unless it goes horribly wrong ? Hopefully a 30 minute job.
I could be left feeling foolish then...
Also an impact socket is most useful on this job. Iirc, 22MM, New bolt should be supplied with new pulley so have some loctite to hand.
Lovely to see TWC out always makes me smile, that berlingo noise could also be the overrun pulley on the alternator if it has one if only makes noise at idle. I think the crank pulley is probably easier. 🙄 anyway have a great Christmas hubnut and all the best for 2024, alas I can’t watch the live vid as travelling.
A "Thing" to consider:- -Start hoarding (Within reason...) Fluids and Chemicals 🛢️. I've done this for years. Recently picked up 3 Cases of old 1980's Castrol GTX in Both 10W-40 and 10-30 form for $65.00. I pick up stuff like this a lot. I also find stuff in cars all the time. I rarely if ever have to go to the Auto Parts Store. Unless there's a Sale on 😊😁! I also just helped clean out a Classic Car Dealership where I took several Van loads of...... everything 👀🤪. I now have nearly 2000 Spark plugs all unopened and some are nearly 90 years old 😮😮. It never hurts to prepare 👍.
'Beard Cam'. I was hoping for a selfie! A great description/expression even if it is unlikely to make it into the Oxford English Dictionary.
What I do to help keep water from staying in my headlights is to remove the headlight assembly and turn it upside down. I then drill a few small holes in the bottom which allows any water to drain out and not leave condensation in it. I also do this with tail lights.
Busy day Mr Hubnut 👍
Good video 😀
At 14.28 even Santa himself in the shop doorway is admiring TWC.......
What a great TWC got a drive and serviced Betty a productive video
I used to annoy my Mumbles born girlfriend by deliberately pronouncing it "Aber-its-wyth". Lots of fun.
It didn't last.
9th March 2024 will be the 5th anniversary of the first HubNut social at the Yew Tree Inn , Cauldon .
Hope you and Ms Hubnut and the Hublets have a great XMAS Hubnut
And you!
@@HubNut Cheers
Ian! You must be about the only Automotive You Tuber not to have been offers sponsorship by Quadlock smartphone holders and cases!!!! Not the cheapest and possibly not the best coverage of more humble Android phones but very good by all accounts! I haven’t got one! I use cheap eBay dash mounted magnetic phone holders, coz I don’t need to film out of the window much!! 😉
Awww, I love Tuk ❤
Common to see Australian oils like Nulon for example have 6l bottles for the Big cars. Do the oil every 10k, disregard the 5k. EL started with the special fluid. Try penrite power steering fluid with stop leak it meets Ford M2C134-D, can send you 1l or the valvoline. Sounds like you might have a small leak common problem.
Thanks. Someone else has some Valvoline stuff on the way. They'd bought it by mistake.
@@HubNutNo worries
Great to see Twc out and about in some mild peril, and also good to see Betty getting some love.
Look forward to the Live Stream on Xmas Eve Eve....
23rd. Christmas Eve Eve.
