So glad you saved TWC Ian. A true piece of motoring history.
That McClaren seating position never gets old.👌
I will always love TWC, favourite of the fleet, no matter what you get, TWC always has a special place in my heart.....my uncle loved his and the freedom it gave him before moving on to a Volvo 340 auto.
You are so right about the Dafs, they drove just the same .
My Dad had two and there was a distinct art to driving them.
Lovely memories.
I have a suspicion that as a small child I believed the famous "rubber band car" worked like a balsa wood model aeroplane so you had to wind it up.
I know someone who dailied a DAF 66 as late as 2018, possibly longer!
Clanking bits, cold start grumpiness, squealing belts, and she still thribbles along well.... strangely I adore this little beastie...
Thanks for posting another TWC vid mate....
Thribble is a great new word. Everyone who reads these comments should make an effort to use it!
I love your TWC videos. I remember these things puttering around in the 80s when I was a kid. I’ve often wondered how terrifying they’d be to drive.
There were always a couple right by the boundary at Headingley cricket ground when I went as a kid in the mid 90's.
Would love to see Elly and TWC have a trip to France together and have a nice picture taken in front of the Eiffel Tower, i know it would be a logistical nightmare 😂😂
TWC on a journey abroad would be crazy 😂
@@___Steinn___ Would certainly be entertaining 😄
@@DanDavies741 absolutly! I'd love to see that!
Wait till Miss Hubnut gets behind the wheel/tiller.
TWC is the perfect vehicle for Foreign journeys, You don't have to worry about the steering wheel being on the wrong side.
A modern version of the Invacar is what we all need for those small trips that we all do in vehicles far oversized for such tasks.
They really are the most terrifying yet hilarious things to drive. I was only brave enough to drive around a retail park car park and i had to concentrate hard but when you got the hang, you grinned from ear to ear. Following one on the road is a real laugh too.
Always a pleasure to ride with you in TWC, Mr. HubNut! Thank you!
My uncle had polio he had an invacar had I little wooden stool on the left hand side took me so many places when I was young loved it every time there were police about he’d say duck 😂.great times great memories .even got a shot of it in a car park in bearsden in Glasgow the good old days ❤
Great ride with that Invacar.
The front wiper blade seems to be the same like at my vw polo breadvan (86C 2F) rear wiper set up (250 or 280 mm).
Go on and cheers from Germany
Cars with air cooled rear engines are always struggling with heating, even in mass production. I remember my aunt's VW 411 back in the day had an auxiliary heater (fueled with petrol) to make it more comfortable inside. And in my dad's Beetle my sister and I were issued wipes and sponges to defog the rear windows.
Tatra also opted for a petrol-burner!
Good to see TWC out again. It does look exciting but quite alarming to drive at times. Watching you drive it does make me chuckle. Keep up the good work
On the very rare occasion I done 50mph I felt like I was doing 90 😂😂. Thanks for the memories Ian xxx
Everybody loves TWC the baby of the fleet.
AY UP MR HUBNUT
I love that You Tube algorithm put a translate option on your comment , proves it's not fluent in English .
This was the first thing I saw on your channel when you went to the field where there were a half dozen dumped in a field and you bought 2 and got them in a Luton box van brilliant. I have got an engine from the 2 stroke version with the Siba dynastart and all the electric gear to run it I am trying to make a combined heat and power unit for a project
I remember an invalid carriage in Newcastle AU. It was as wide as a wheelchair. The number plate was nearly as wide!
From memory steering was like an old fashioned wheelchair.
The motor was under the seat.
It wasn’t until I saw Tuk that I understood what it was.
The man had a crocheted blanket. I’m not sure how
A legend. Piloting a legend.
What a nice terrifying car to drive. Seems like fun.
Ah, that fear of field entrances and the terror they can bring, exhilarating!
Always enjoy watching videos of this little vehicle, she's gets through the miles pretty well for what she is 👌🏼
Love to see TWC on the road again 😊.
Back in the 60s had the no invalid version. It was an AC Petite. Had a two-stroke engine with a 3 speed motor cycle gearbox. So I now tell people that I once had an AC with a sequential box 😂😂😂
Absolutely brilliant video Ian ❤👍nice seeing tuc out again brilliant
Nice to see you in Aberystwyth!
When I was at school in the late 60s a lad at our school who was badly handicaped called Richard who could hardly walk even with a frame drove one of these, to school use to see a few of them around in them days
You obviously lived and survived this but I was still scared witless when watching the Point of View section at 55mph in the rain and wind!
It's good to know the good old Twc is still rocking on the roads, what a champ!
'50 is about as fast as you really want to go' There speaks the voice of someone who's taken it up to 70 😅
Well done Tuck🛞🛞🛞
I thought these had all been culled, so it’s a surprise to see you have one!
There are a few that were saved. The spares car Ian purchased to borrow some items to get his Invacar is also up and running.
The Invicar is an intriguing little car. I often imagined that the VW Type 1 drivetrain could make a really good three wheeled sportscar. The rear engine would move the CG back to the wide end of the car for stability and a sleek 356 esque body would get a reasonable turn of speed from the small engine. What can I say? There's something wonderful about small light cars.
you are a very brave man lol
Love seeing the natural smile on your face as you drive. I had a smile car at one point in my life - it be the one that I miss the most. Everyone needs a smile car. Good luck with Tuk - and if you want a real adventure some day, take the Dempster Highway to Tuk
We called these toodering cars as kids. There were loads about. Late 70s early 80s. Absolutely fascinating, and still are. Glad you saved TWC .
Do love a adventure in TWC, thanks for sharing Ian.
From one Tuc to another happy new year
Thank you so much for that. I used to sometimes wonder what a ride in an Invacar would be like. It strikes me that 70mph might well have made the driver eligible for an Award for Bravery. I think I understand the attraction of this rare little conveyance though. I hope every year can be your ‘Year of the Invacar’.
The speed record for an invacar is 82! I barely had mine past 50
@@petermcilroy1176 Amazing - must have been downhill with hurricane Bertha on your tail and nerves of steel.
Who needs thrill rides like bungy jumping and jet boating when you've the chance to drive TWC in Welsh weather.
I love that little car. It needs total concentration to drive unlike modern automatic tin boxes. Steering direct and ultra responsive if unforgiving. You can feel like 100mph at legal speeds. Driving at 10 tenths doing 45mph --lovely. Safety features, it has doors.
Thanks for this Ian - it's answered loads of questions I have had in my mind about the real world of driving TWC.
I drive the 460 bus now and again (Carmarthen to Cardigan) and i am always on the lookout for TWC when negotiating the streets of Cardigan, one day i will spot TWC.
It's always great to see TWC out on the open road having a play. These cars were nearly made extinct following withdrawal back in the day but thankfully some have survived. Without them many people would have not been able to get about getting supplies and visiting others. It might sound odd but TWC has a great personality over and above that many other cars offer. In the fleet she's a dependable car that from the videos always leaps to the task in hand with few complaints. Definitely a keeper along with Elle. Many thanks for sharing.
Fond memories of my '74 Daf Variomatic. Narrow tyres, no diff. Brilliant in snow, but only in straight lines. Happy New Year!
Tuk, what a joy 😊
I now got it delivered to me all I need to do now is have it installed.
Ilove that car. Looks great fun.
Hi Ian, great video got to love a TWC video
I do recall seeing one of these that had been involved in an accident, it had pulled out into oncoming traffic and there was nothing left forward of the driver.
To be fair, there isn't much to start with...
In Sweden we do not call it "The Golden Arches", we call it "The Golden Seagull"😂
TWC never fails to put a smile on my face ☺️
That car is absolutely mental, but I love it!
Always love a TWC video!!!
Happy New Year Ian! I love seeing TWC in action, it's hard to watch without a smile on your face! 😄
Guess what my indicator stick just arrived in Melbourne Victoria Australia I'll soon have my mini running plus sort a front left headlight screw that was loose, the two circles around the headlight were sticking on surprisingly. I'll wish you luck on your French Car The Citroen Elly you called and you can wish me luck on my 2024 drives.
Love it!! Thanks Ian. Reminds me of when I bought my 435cc 2CV van and drove it home around the M25. Great fun and bloody terrifying all at once. Happy New Year Hubnutters!
another great video has always Ian and miss hubnut and hublets and hubmutts 👍
The descent into Llanrhystud must be fun 😁
Good to see TWC laying down some Michelin X rubber. Sounding great 👍
Well Done TWC once again.
Gawd bless her I utterly adore TWC! I have found and cured a vacuum leak on my Daf 33 that’s also part of its CVT regulation system. It’s somewhat faster and not so lean now. Do you fancy a race……in reverse?😂
Hi Ian happy New year to you and the family. The inverter car had a big following in Northampton in the 60s 70s and the 80s it was called the disabled drivers association. there old video footage
Well driven, Ian. Look like it takes a lot of skill and anticipation to drive TWC. Cheers.
Nice to see TWC in action again, special cars are still the most fun.
TWC is a national treasure
Gracias por existir
Don’t worry Ian i puchued for you twice , First one usual and second one for GOOD LUCK 🤞, terrifying drive home.
Still my favourite of the fleet. Has been since she first joined. Though I struggle to put rational reasoning behind my liking, I can think of one word, "simplicity". Looking forward to the upcoming improvements and TLC that TWK - IMHO - thoroughly deserves. Happy new year TWK.
Great to see TWC doing her thing again.
I know that road well. You're a brave man on a wet and windy day. My Mum and Dad had a series of Reliant 3 wheelers from about 1970 onwards. My Dad passed his motorcycle test in the Army (WWII) and could drive a 3 wheeler without passing another test. They used to go Aberaeron /Aberystwyth for a day out. Absolutely gave them so much freedom and loved it. My Dad would buy a new one every two/three years even though he'd do less than 4,000 miles a year. He said it was to make sure that the lads in Tamworth had a job..!!
Yes! TWC content!!!
Nice 😊
Woohoo 🙌
I’m thinking … mile for mile TWC has been the most reliable vehicle in the fleet in her special little way . Always seems to be a happy and faithful little friend
True, but then she's not done many miles... Betty has been stonking and has done 5000 miles in NZ and 22,000 here!
Lovely stuff! You'll have to seek out having a play with a DAF 33 sometime!.Double the power!
I see you and Twc in a new video , and voila one instant like , before i have even watched infact because i know entertainment will ensue .
Hello Ian , it’s nice to see you out in the number one car on this channel, please could you give her an oil change before long , I can’t remember when you did it last
I don't managed to document every little thing that happens on the fleet but she is due an oil change. In time if not mileage...
Dafs were quite similar, but more refined. They also made the pulleys respond to the throttle, because of membranes in the pulleys, connected to the engine vacuum line. So if you floor it, you destroy the vacuum, making the CVT instantly shift down. The same system could also be locked as a 'low range' for engine braking downhill (or if you wanted to hold the lower gear ratio for longer) on their 4 cylinder models.
I can't imagine anything more stressful than trying to drive one of these through a modern cityscape.
She's quite nippy at urban speeds. Almost pleasant through central London.
I wonder if they'll be another storm happening? With the right windscreen on and shut you'd be dry but if there's rough rain you'd still feel the biffing of all the raindrops, well lets see what battle climbs are like when I watch.
Well, Ian ... I saw a Peugeot 605 today as well. I am in France however 😃
70 mph in an Invacar??? You are much braver than me!!
Just though would Evil K'nevil have done this kind of dare devil a stunt? Carry vid 🎉
Needs a Hyabusa engine! 😂
Can’t beat a bit of TWC fun.
Betty definitely needs a small trailer for TWC to be pulled around on. That way TWC could go further a field.
Can't beat TWC on board action. 💨
Watching you man and woman handling the Steyr unit to replace the broken one, seems such a long time ago... and still TWC goes...
I do remember when the previous distributor got destroyed on the other engine but hopefully you'll find a different way of getting the distributor out of TWC.
My 1/5 scale petrol powered model car has the same type of clutch as well. As the same at lower throttle, it clangs slightly until it full engages at higher rpms...
TWC is Hubnut and Hubnut is TWC. In fact i think TWC is Ian's spirit guide.
TWC should be prescribed by the NHS for creating smiles and happiness.
HubNut at ours best. Who doesn’t love TWC?
What a great start to 2024, I want a go, I would rather think you get an adrenaline rush, much like a fair ride, rather than it be terrifying. I would like to point out that disabled people don't have a scheme were they get a car, if eligible, they can lease a car through a scheme where no taxes are added, making the cars more affordable which can be topped up by means tested grants to pay for any adaptations if required.
Thanks. I need to do a video on Motability as there are so many incorrect facts out there.
I love the irony that TWC generates about as much attention as a Zonda and you're allergic to attention 😂 Long live hubnut!
Have you considered cutting the stop off the distributor cap so you can adjust the timing by twisting the cap? Dose work if you only need a bit of adjustment. You do need a good way to clamp the cap.
Thats a very 1980s looking Maccas in the background at the start of the video.
Always fun to watch you driving TWC! It's terrifying, but fun!
