    God this guy is such a great teacher. I’ve watched many training videos and I teach an instrument at a conservatory, no other disc golfer even close to this level of teaching

    That "Pickpocket" tip is fantastic. I often could feel myself rounding and struggled to get distance past 300ish feet with my drivers, and often shank it way right on a RHBH. I paused, got a disc, lifted it from my side and rotated flat, then loaded up the shoulder turn and thought "That doesn't feel like my normal reach back". So I loaded up with what felt like my normal reach back, did those same movements in reverse, and voila, there the disc is awkwardly covering my groin.
    I'm definitely going to try some stand still throws using the pickpocket to setup my reach back and get a feel for it, then try to work it into my x step. I did some dry run throws and it felt way more natural, especially in my follow through. Your teaching style does a great job creating "light bulb" moments. Thanks for the great content!

    Amazing videos! Just started following and I have to say I wish the algorithm wasn’t sleeping on this channel. I’m going to go out and apply these non groin touching techniques. I cannot wait to report back. I hope I can apply these to my already slow and sluggish throw. Thanks dude!

    Thanks Doc! You approach to teaching is essential and based on examples. You start from what commonly maby people do wrong and you build the corrections with useful tips. Good job. So far, and for me, you're the best teacher ever seen on discgolf channels.

    Good stuff. I’ve never liked “reach back” either. I use “extension” but I like how you say push your shoulder out because it’s more specific and easier to repeat/remember. I’m a firm believer in using the right language to coach disc golf. Not a fan of “run up” either🙂

    I think iv'e done the "big reach back" unconsciously to keep myself balanced when i step forward with my plant leg. Just recently trying to keep myself more upright, but in the beginning it really felt like I was falling backwards.

  • @luuhax
    @luuhax Рік тому +1

    You say to let the weight be over the front leg. You link that to bracing against that leg. Is that not a problem? If I try to put my weight on my frontleg, my center of gravity be very forward. You cannot brace against the front leg if it's under you, it has to be in front. And to brace or rotate against the foot with any power at all, it can't have the weight on it. There has to be some distribution of weight like 30:70 or 50:50? Maybe I'm confusing weight with center of gravity, any comment?

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Рік тому

      This is a valid question! And something all the coaches me included, in ball golf and baseball find hard to explain. Here goes: ALL the weight has to be on your front leg, BUT you cannot be ON the front leg. This means that you put all the pressure on it, but still stay behind it. So don't lean over the front, but definitely don't feel like your weight is on the back leg either.
      Difficult consept, I admit, and I am constantly trying to find a way to explain it.

    • @luuhax
      @luuhax Рік тому +1

      @@dgspindoctor thanks for answering! This has been one of the hardest pieces to understand since trying to emulate it by how it looks doesnt seem to get the results i want. When bracing the back leg is almost weightless so i get that the pressure that exists is on the front leg. But I don’t think that’s necessarily ”ALL” the weight. It’s like rotation in the hip creates a moment of ”weightlessness”. The jolt of power from the weightshift is like an invisible back leg holding you up. That power goes into the rotation right? So not immediately into the front leg. It’s like disscipating the energy from the runnup creates a moment of weightlessness. So it’s like while in the middle of the explosive part of the throw youre bracing against the leg but also against the disc. So the brace is from both sides, with the person in the middle is hanging between the leg and the disc pulling in opposite directions

    i wonder if touching back to wall can be accomplished by getting your planting foots heel down before you uncoil the shot ?

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Рік тому

      Whatever you do, the heel should be down before you even think about uncoiling. :)

    Been struggling with rounding and throwing nose up, getting almost no distance, like 200-230ft after 5 months of playing. Super frustrating and feel like taking a break from discgolf, but I'll give these tips a try and see how I go.

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  Рік тому +3

      Thanks for the comment.
      In the "reach back" I suggest you focus not on reaching back but reaching out. Keep you elbow far away from the body, like push is out form the shoulder, and extend your lower arm out. If you only turn your shoulders, you most likely end up rounding. You have to keep the elbow away from your torso.
      As you start the throw, think of doing a bicep curl. Do not pull, but think of tucking the disc to your bicep while keeping the elbow out. Make space for the disc to tuck in. When you do this slowly, the disc comes neatly in. When you start to gain speed, the disc will launch out before it get even close to your bicep. But now you have already fixed the rounding and your good!
