Love this example of Will. His original video helped me so much when I first started as I struggled HARD with the x-step. I still can’t keep myself from planting with my front foot/hip open so the standstill advice is so valuable to me personally. I actually played a “standstill only” round a few weeks ago and my card mate made several comments about how much more controlled my drives were all day. I’d say I sacrifice a little distance but overall it’s well worth NOT having the occasional errant drive off the tee. It was also the first round I’ve ever had zero arm soreness and actually felt a bit in the areas you mentioned the stretch coming from. Thank you for the awesome videos!! 🙏
Thank you for taking time to write. It means a lot to me to know I can make a difference through my videos. I hope this one helped you get that plant foot in check!
These are brilliant! A variety of visualisations about throwing keep on coming on a weekly basis, and gives something cool to try out. Love the smile in the end, too :)
The first video I watched of yours was, Throw like Drew Gibson, or something like that. I saw your shirt and you said you were in Columbia, so I thought you were South American. Also thought it was mostly a joke until I saw you throw. Had no idea you were a teacher. Then I saw you commentating for the European Open, and I realized how wrong my first impression was. Gave me a good laugh. Now I don't miss any of your videos.
Another awesome video! One topic that I’d love your thoughts on is Off Axis Torque (OAT) and how to avoid/fix it. I know that comes up a lot and many people struggle with this, myself included. 😬
Great video as always! I would love to hear your thoughts about nose angle. Is it really just 'pouring the coffee'? I believe i heard you say that nose angle will get better when your basic form gets better. Regardless, thx for your videos and the 'keep it simple' approach :-)
Fantastic video, I just gave it a shot and was able to get the disc as far if not farther than most run-up shot I've done after maybe 5 throws? My techdisc was reading 7-10 mph faster on release, seems like I have some issues to work on when I add a run-up in. Appreciate you!
This is great stuff and i love the way you teach! ThankYou! Do you have any drill to make the arm faster? I understand that it takes the entire body to throw tje disc, but im talking about just the arm, no body.
i worked on stand stills today (havent watched this video yet) and i was working on a few core things i feel like i need to change. mostly getting the rear hip coiled and upper body with tilt.. Now trying to do that with a walk up... wasnt going to happen.. it just felt so hard/weird to get into that better possition..
also when i really get my back leg off the ground i can feel the reverse curl flex on my back leg thigh.. and i notice in my film when i do that correctly i get on my front leg without me trying and get the perfect heel spin on front leg without trying.. when i focus on my front leg i just cant time things up idk
I've been struggling with standstill throws my whole time playing because i had no idea how to generate power and momentum. Next problem & video idea is putting: how to generate power and aim plus maybe approach shots how to control the amount of power 😉
Im a bit thick, but I really want to figure this out - there is something missing for me. When I try to “sit” or focus on the brace, I either just stop with no momentum going anywhere, or I end up leaning backwards from the target with the upper body - and really pulling the disc to get any power (bad). Try to swing earlier - fall over the top or just fizzle out. I have tried focusing on a more pendulum style shot with the arm very loose, but the disc ends up in a very steep nose up shot, even when trying to correct it. If I try to stay centered over my feet and try to do a more subtle weight shift, there is still no sense of rotation in the hips and it feels very forced (and then the upper body wants to muscle it like crazy). In videos of me doing x steps i look like i want to eat my shoulder and compared to pros i just dont understand how the upper body can stay so centered and get so much power… Clearly I’m probably overthinking this like crazy, but it seems hard to “find” the rotation of the hips as a result of the weight shift and if I force my hips to rotate and let the upper body just ride along - it results for me in bad rounding (arm collapses even when I try carefully/easy as possible to keep the elbow out) and nose up 🙈
I have another question, when you do the stride and your at full reach back, do you have to be on your toes? I end up flat footed and I feel more stretch
normal standstill shots i have a bit problems , but somehow patent pending shots can reach 300ft with midranges. and get a good spin out of it lol! ty! nice vid
@@dgspindoctor i mean i can throw 350+ ish standstill with drivers but it does feel kinda weak and not smooth releases , but will definitely give it more tries after seeing ur motivational video about it :D
idk what you think about this but whats worked for me is to coil at the stomach which rotates my shoulders while im balancing on back leg and ironically that extends my arm without me trying to do so.. then i uncoil by slamming my back knee down and inward which also gets my arm into power pocket without me trying to do so.. then once the arm is coming out of power pocket i explode loose and fast with throwing wrist ZERO elbow and im now almost hitting 500ft and whats great is now i dont use any arm strength just my lower body and wrist speed to do it and feel healthier already.. is this just working for me or do you think theres a teachable moment with what im doing?
Do what works. The throw is mainly done by coiling and legs, and the arm is just the tip of the whip. I will never, ever teach anyone to slam the knee down. It is a by product of the weight shift, and happens quite automatically, even for me. But if you have very mobile hips and knees, that surely happens easier and faster.
I give you two fonzi thumbs up! I’m 52. I had a Batman doll and a batmobile. I did not have Robin. I did have a fonzi doll So I had Fonzi ride shotgun and they would go searching for Barbi.
As I come down on the front leg my elbow tends to come down as well. As I press against the front leg and brace, it corrects. But I end up with a swoosh in my arm path. I cant seem to correct this. Even when I think I do, I record myself and there it is
@@dgspindoctor Agreed. Getting to fully straight is not important. Getting to straightER than you started is important. That is the same as resisting. Will actually does extend his front leg in that shot. Look at the angle going in vs coming out, the knee is significantly less bent on the way out. This is what is causing the hip rotation; momentum in the back hip and an active clearing of the front hip caused by front knee extension. Its subtle here because its a standstill, but its still there. Can you explain more about how you think the elbow is causing hip rotation? I do not think there is any evidence to support that idea... am I misunderstanding you?
The stretched back + elbow and your intention to throw makes your core turn towards the target, and as you go down on the front leg, they contribute to rotation IF you let the rotation happen.
Down and forward. Feel the stretch and let it RRRRRRIP! Great stuff man. Thanks.
Right on!

Thank you for always making good teaching videos. I have learned a lot

Hah, first impressions are sometimes decieving.
You make my practice productive. Thank you for your videos.
Happy to hear that!
Thanks for the video Doc! Glad I found you! Very helpful and I think you’ve got a gift for teaching
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video! Excellent as always but this one really speaks to me!
Cool! I keep telling the same things over and over again, but sometimes one different word just makes it click.
lol, perfect timing on video. I've been snuggling with the stand still as I incorporate your techniques. Ty
Perfect!
Excellent video; I have struggled with this, but this down and forwards tip sounds good! Need to try it out
Give it go, I hope it works for you.
Good vid ty!
Outstanding as usual
Thank you very much!
Cory Ellis is another great example. Thanks
He really is!
Graham Russell #37909 throws only standstills, like 400ft

I think the only way to make arm move faster is better your form and doing some strength excercises too.

Not necessarily. If you can get off your heels afterwards, no harm was done.
Will gets his back legs knee turned in much more then 99% of guys i see attempt to throw.. very Mcbeth like in that sense! 3:51

Thanks for sharing. I guess you get the lean down on the patent pending easier than with the normal stance? 🤔
@@dgspindoctor Yes it actually feels like sitting down backwards towards target but enough hyzer makes me get up after shot to keep up balance!

Try not to lean forward with the upper body, but feel the pressure shift only in the lower body.
Here's a monster standstill from Kuoksa to study: ua-cam.com/video/NLa4jbKVImk/v-deo.html
It's a great example. Also, notice how it's not a complete stand still but he also takes the mini stride.
Straightening the right leg will make your hips rotate (automatically).
Or if you just resist the down motion.
@@dgspindoctor Maybe both for extra effect.
Remember, I'm just a UA-cam theorist.
Straightening itself is not the thing though. But the resist and tension is.
