    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Molly (Brittany Murphy) and Ray (Dakota Fanning) ride the teacups and share a bittersweet moment.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this comedy from director Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans), Brittany Murphy stars as Molly Gunn, the daughter of a dead rock star, who lives off her inheritance and has never worked a day in her life. When her father's estate is swindled away from her, Molly suddenly finds her life of luxury and excess pulled out from under her. Begrudgingly, she decides that she has to get a job and is hired as a nanny for Ray Schliene (Dakota Fanning), the daughter of record executive Roma Schliene (Heather Locklear). At first Molly can't shake her spoiled-brat personality, but eventually she and Ray discover that they have a lot in common and a strong bond is formed. Jesse Spencer plays Molly's boyfriend, and Donald Faison, who previously worked with Murphy in Clueless, plays another record executive who offers Molly a place to live until she gets on her feet.

It always gets me when Molly looks at Ray while spinning in the cups. Like she is transported into the past, seeing her previous 8 year old self spinning in grief.

She did that was kind of the point of the whole movie it was a movie about a woman who refused to grow up and be an adult with then she saw somebody who needed her and needed love and care and she that's when she kind of decided she needed to be grown herself and move on and be mature

It made me cry too because you can tell Rey was running away from her feelings about her dad because she never talked to him or about him and then when she finally starts to let herself feel for him again by talking to him, he dies so she was very much heart broken over it because Molly got her hopes up by saying there's a chance he could recover if she talks to him. That's why she was so mad at Molly but also very heart broken

I am a counselor and this whole movie has such an accurate representation of how kids express and experience grief. Molly figured out how to help Ray just by letting Ray get her feelings out while also establishing boundaries on how she should be treated. She also never truly gave up on Ray and was there for her even if Ray treated her badly, and Ray was pushing her away. Kids have so many feelings and they often don't know how to deal with them or accurately express them.

These two were destined to meet one another. Molly really connected with Rae because she, also, lost her parents when she was Rae’s age. Molly probably wishes she had had an adult figure there to comfort her during that time. So she made sure she could be that person for Rae. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Something I never see anyone talk about is why Molly went from being a party girl to maturing into her own self through the journey of being Ray’s nanny. It’s clear Molly had so many repressed feelings and emotions w/ no one to confide in when she lost her parents. She lived carelessly having as much fun she could to run away from the harder feelings of reality. While being Ray’s nanny (especially this scene) taught her something valuable w/ healing her inner child. I feel that by allowing Ray to show her feelings and being there for her... it was like looking at herself as a child in that heartbreaking moment she ran away from for so long. It was a messy yet incredibly healing moment in this scene. There are things a lot of us experience as children that we carry w/ us through out ourselves. Learning to show up for own inner child and tend to our wounds can be hard but allows to us to live a life more consciously. ❤️

Honestly, people in the movie are always telling her she's so immature but I didn't get the sense that she is at all. She probably had to grow up too soon herself and is now making up for lost time. She's youthful and funloving, but you can see her wisdom and maturity shine through whenever Ray isn't being properly taken care of.

Awww, this scene is so emotional. Rae ran away to Coney Island after her father died just like Molly did after her parents died. Molly was, also, eight years old when she lost her parents like Rae was here. I think in many ways, Molly saw her young self in Rae. She obviously was probably not nearly as uptight or neurotic as Rae was as a little girl. But she still remembers what it was like to feel so alone in the world and like nobody understands you.
After Rae threw up from being on the ride, she really started to let all of her emotions out for the first time. We can see here how she most likely has been bottling up all these feelings up throughout the movie. When she started slapping & punching Molly, it really just represented how angry & hurt she felt by everything in her life. After she gets all her feelings out, she hugs Molly so dearly because she realizes Molly is the first person in her life who really “gets” her. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Idk what it is about this scene, but it always brings me to tears and makes me realize what really matters in life. I know that Rae had just learned her dad passed away, and even though she usually came across as strong, this shows it’s okay to be vulnerable and that we all cope differently. I saw this after I had to put my dog down and it made me sob like I never have before

Spinning the cup alone: Trying to work out things alone.
Spinning the cup together: Meaning she doesn't have to do it alone.
    Puking: Expressing oppressed emotions.
Hitting/Crying: More built up emotions showing up like anger and grief. Also works as a way to defend herself from being vulnerable. Trying to push her nanny away as she always does, so she can't get hurt when she leaves her too.
Nanny taking it all: A way of prooving she won't go away at the time of need.
Hugging: Finally accepting help, accepting being vulnerable, accepting the pain and hurt inside.
And from there, the healing begins. Such a powerful scene it was!

This movie is so special. I can relate to it, losing a parent at a young age makes you feel so lost and alone.

I watched this movie for the first time a couple years after my mom passed away. It really got my crying then m, and now every time I watch this scene I teleported back to that time. Its always sad, but now a days its more cathartic then painful. My girlfriend wants to watch the movie with me. I've already warned her I'm gonna grab the tissues and popcorn cause there will be tears xD

I'm 33 years old and I still can't express my feelings and emotions. I'm a transgender girl.... I was born male and keep those feelings in the dark for most of my life. I came forward with this to my friends and family less than a year ago. This scene really hits home.

+Andrew Wang That's pretty much what made this scene so emotional; after Fanning's character gets up after throwing up after being on the teacups ride, Brittany Murphy's character offers her a drink of water and, as you mentioned, Fanning slaps it out of her hand. She then proceeds to slap Murphy's character in the face, then tries to do it a second time before Murphy grabs Fanning's wrist. With her free hand, Fanning slaps Murphy in the face a second time, and this time Murphy's character returns the favor. Then, Fanning's character proceeds to punch her in the stomach rapidly about five or six times or so, catching Murphy's character completely off guard, but she just gets this look on her face like "just punch it out, girl" before Dakota's character collapses in Brittany's arms crying.
