I think Daisy always knew she was a victim and that the relationship with her father was wrong. But Lisa’s words brought her to the edge, because Lisa was correct in her point of changing the scenery, but the reality remained regardless. I think Daisy was so far into the cycle of abuse, that she felt if she rejected her father, she would have no one, so she felt it was better to commit suicide. It’s a real shame, because I feel with proper support, Daisy would have been on a real path to recovery.
Maiyaki Mickey Broadnax Her father made her believe that she was loved. So for a Daisy, the realisation that everyone knew about it and that maybe she liked it was too much. She felt shame and self hatred because of the thing that her father taught her as love.
Not to mention how the 60s was a dark time to acknowledge mental illness. So ofc not everyone was fully educated upon it and used very harsh tactics on their patients.
I’ve never seen this movie, but the visual foreshadowing helped me come to that conclusion. The way she just ascended up the stairs into the light without looking back ......
I think it was when Lisa said, “You LIKE being Mrs Randone.”? That was the conflict in Daisys’ thinking: the guilt, the shame, because she became a willing participant now that she was grown up. Even though she was still a victim; she may have developed a narcissistic personality disorder and I think Lisa hated her false appearance of having it all and acting better than everyone else-when she clearly was not!
It wasn’t the truth. It was Daisy’s deepest fear, but it wasn’t the truth. Lisa identified the absolute deepest dread that an abuse victim suffers, the inner doubt that maybe because they haven’t reported it, because they don’t fight back, because they feel conflicted, because they love their father, that they may secretly like the abuse. It’s not true and it’s never true. Abuse victims never enjoy abuse. They may have certain instinctual reactions or self preservation behaviors that may suggest it to the uneducated, but that’s why the uneducated should stop pretending to be psychologists
In the book Daisy was in love with her father. People are all very different and as uncomfortable as it is to accept, some victims grow to love their abusers in this way. You may not have experienced this but I promise you that it does happen sometimes.
When I was 7 I had a guilty conscious from liking the feeling of being abused, and as I grew up I wanted older men who were controlling or "dominant" because I liked that feeling.
It's sad to see that people can't understand that Angelina is playing a character. These comments......man, u would think grown adults would understand Lisa is fictional
Ron Des I felt empathy but I understand why you and some others would feel that way. It's an all too real issue. Most of us know someone that has been through a similar situation...it is very sad
The red dress scene from Requiem for a Dream and Sophie’s Choice we’re darker imo, but this is just sad cause of what Daisy does after. Lisa was a complete sociopath, but you also felt sorry for her
I like how she pauses and her lips close for a second before she says _"is that you like it"_ Like she's hesitating cause she knows exactly how devastating that final blow will be
tyler gnosis yes she was in this movie. When I heard this film was based on a true story I had to read the book. In the book Lisa is not THIS sadistic, thank God. She didn't torment Daisy much at all, if I remember correctly
L7 Weenie also in the book. It's admitted that the doctors ms-diagnosed Lisa as a sociopath. In the movie, it'd never really admitted. But in the end when Lisa breaks down & crys. That's when you realize she was never a true sociopath. Sociopaths have zero remorse or empathy. And they won't fake cry to fool someone. That's beneath a sociopath.
Jazz Solo Cup even people with anti social personality disorder has feelings. Lisa didn't feel remorse or care about other people, she cried for herself in that scene. I used to be friends with someone who has anti social personality disorder and the only time he ever cried was when something affected him negatively and he was frustrated. He never cried because he was sorry or for anyone else.
She called Polly ‘torch’ (the girl who burnt her face) She called Janet ‘fatso’ (the girl who was severely anorexic) Those words with a combination of this scene. You can definitely say she was meaner than Regina George
Daisy was right when she said Lisa was jealous.. not because of her release, she was jealous that even though daisy's father is a sicko, he buys daisy food gives her gifts and a place to live. Lisa couldn't stand Daisy standing up to her so she had to shoot her down.. typical bully behavior...
I never felt like the father ACTUALLY ever molested her. She was just an incredibly sensitive person and to have something said that was so vicious and vile hit her hard. I doubt the father would have been allowed to visit the hospital, or be allowed in the room alone with her if it were the case.
Sweet Lil Devil You would be surprised how easy it is for abusive parents to see their kids if no one knows about the abuse. Daisy was abused. Horribly.
I found this part to be craziest from the abuse point of view, basically giving flashbacks with each word that’s being said lol - hey man, it’s cool, it’s okay, it’s f*cking fine, a man is a d*ck as a chicken, as a dad, valium, speculum, whatever whatever 😅
To clear up the confusion, she did it in the morning bc she turned the music on just before she did it. The music wasn’t playing all night, it was playing in the morning.
this scene is SO much more intense after you’ve already seen the movie because you know exactly what it means when daisy walks up the stairs towards the light
Agree. You know in your gut what’s happen but you also want the next scene to be the hospital Erving her, realizing deep down this character we’ve come to like is not coming back. Gosh, Lisa is such an awful person which is why I’m so impressed with Angie’s acting skills. Takes talent and skill to make such a chilling tone in her voice in this scene.
There’s a lot of weird comments here about “tough love” and Lisa speaking “the truth”. Lisa by her own words “enjoys pushing people’s buttons.” There’s nothing truthful in her words, she’s only confirming Daisy’s deepest fear in retaliation to Daisy making her feel inferior. There are no groomed assault victims who enjoy their abuse, Daisy plays at normalcy as a form of self-delusion because the horror of her abuse is unbearable, not because she secretly likes it.
You're right! The horror of abuse is unbearable! Innocence is stolen from you and everything about love is perverted and disfigured! I remember reading in some comment here about Daisy turning her toys on her back during the abuse, with the intention of preserving their innocence! It broke me! It sure was a fatal stab to her heart when Lisa said she liked it! It's as if at that moment she could no longer have any hope and, finally, she was consumed by all this horror!
Bang on, Lisa knew what she saying wasn't objective truth, she was saying it coz she knew this is swirling around in Daisy's head and would speak to her trauma. And hurt her, break her
The scene before this. Daisy is being a friend. Telling lisa the store is on the corner and giving her money for her pancakes. Asking if they have any plans when they get to Florida. And Lisa couldn’t take that daisy was living on her own. Lisa really couldn’t even think of the slight chance someone got better and she didn’t. (Even though daisy wasn’t better) My sister is crazy like Lisa. If someone’s happy she needs to stomp all over it. Takes a sick person to do that
Daisy was kinda being uppity and pompous about it in my opinion. She had this feeling of condescension when she questioned them about their plans in Florida
I think that’s what made Britney such a fabulous actress, you can tell just from her eyes and face that Lisa’s words have completely devastated her and she doesn’t have too say a word
This pretty much breaks down people in real life. Some people go through traumatic things and decide to try to heal , move on and be kind to others and some people go through traumatic things and decide to spread their anger and trauma throughout the world. Sometimes these people are so envious of the people that went through trauma that are deciding to heal that they’ll try to get in their heads to make them feel as low as they do. We’ve all seen children do this to other children, but there are some immature adults who continue to do this throughout the rest of their lives.
And that, ladies and gentleman, is how you break someone. You topple the walls in someones mind until all that's left is the unflinching truth. So powerful.
Mel1lvar she had no right to do that & that is why Lisa was diagnosed as a sociopath. Zero compassion or empathy for another. Always dishing out everyone else's truth, but won't face their own. (Remember Lisa at the end of the movie?)
cooldaddyjames2814 I was actually verbally abused as a kid and now when I see someone do this kinda thing I think of the conversation as an abusive person’s mad libs or someone trying to write a song verse chorus verse etc.
At the hospital everything she wears and owns is blue or pink. The apartment she acts so excited about is nothing but shades of yellow. Daddy picked out everything in his favorite color...
R.I.P Brittney Murphey. When this movie came out, she wasn't popular yet. Sadly she died in the peak of her career it seemed, I loved the movies she starred in later on. She passed in 2009 (I was 18). I always wondered what roles she'd play if she were still around. She died too young, and this scene makes it even more sad.
Whitney Miller Um she was in "Clueless " before this and on a Disney show called "Almost Home". She was known and liked before this movie. Just because you were too young to know of her doesn't mean that she wasn't "popular ".
Yes she is flawless to me. The jealous bitches will always be there. I am very selective with who I think is attractive and she is definitely up there. Although she has gotten better with age. Now she looks so much better
Ryan C I don't think she was over the top...she played the role exactly the it was meant to be played. Her role wasn't supposed to be understated. The scene where Lisa has a breakdown was incredible acting...totally not overacted.
Yes, I agree. Angelina's role was more "showy" but Brittney's went deeper. Anyone can scream and act crazy just look at all the Housewives of whatever shows. It gets old real fast but, true acting is subtle.

Whoa...haven't seen this movie in years and forgot this scene. Lisa ripping apart Daisys mind then grabbing a piece of candy like it's all normal makes me shudder. AMAZING performances by both of them.
when she said "That she like it" was the edge for her. She knows that being abused by her father was the worst thing in her life, and Lisa considering that she likes it was the end for her
the reason this scene is so great to me is because, As Lisa as Lisa shows how of a monster she really is, you can see the pain and envy in her eyes. You see her turn her pain into daggers that she uses to tear Daisy apart. in a scene where she can easily make Lisa's character to much of a villain. Angelina still make her vulnerable.
I think one of the scariest things about Lisa and socio and psychopaths in real life is that they're so magnetic. The ones that know how to charm amd put people at ease. Like, you can sense something isn't right and these warning bells are going off but in spite of that, or because of it, you still want to be around them.
Its because sometimes, they speak just enough truth and bold honesty to put you at ease and get rid of your unwarranted fears. Only sometimes do they come across a Daisy and rip their insides apart with brutal facts
“Lisa’s eyes, once so magnetic, now just look empty.” I never understand exactly what Susanna meant by that but this just made me realize it. Exactly how you explained, Lisa pulled Susanna so close in, while also being a complete monster, Lisa took advantage of the ‘charm’ she had on Susanna and it’s like Susanna knew this was a new low after Daisy’s suicide.

Brittany deserved more credit for this role. She deserved an Oscar too. When I first watched this film I didn’t even realise Angelina won an Oscar for this film. Brittany’s acting stood out to me the most. She’s acts disturbed so subtly.
This scene is just two amazing actresses being amazing actresses. Even now that I'm older I still think this was such powerful acting. Britney Murphy acted disturbed so well. In every movie she cried so realistically.
Even after all these years, this scene still makes my stomach churn, my blood boil, and my to heart break. The acting is absolutely phenomenal. Daisy didn’t deserve all that. Jesus Christ.
I love Brittany Murphy's facial acting @ 2:18. Knowing what's about to happen several minutes from now, I love that her face says everything she's feeling. I also love the way she says "have fun in Florida".
@annwethenorth Face acting is a term used to describe when actors focus on their face instead of engaging with a character's emotions to present themselves in a headshot or during a performance. For example, an actor might use facial expressions to convey a character's emotions instead of finding those emotions within themselves. For example, eye rolling used to be considered face acting (depending where u live my drama teacher would use that term) because it's showing annoyance on the fact, not actually acting the annoyance out in body language. Plus, they made that comment six years ago, when face acting was a way to describe that before tiktok was even made.
I wanted to cry at this scene. The look on Brittney Murphy's face just showed that she "broke". She realized that she wasn't better and Angie just opened up her demons; she was trying so hard to ignore and keep closed. Especially, knowing that her dad now had full access to her.
It's very creepy that Brittany Murphy was found dead in the bathroom for Real! This scene is actually traumatic to watch after her death. R.I.P. Brittany Murphy.
Ooh as soon as Daisy said "Your Just JEALOUS" & Lisa gives that look 1:01. It was like Lisa knew the final nail to punch down. All the ammunition she has saved up & knowing each of all the girls weakness at the institute. Knowing she told every one of them "Say One Wrong Word to Me & I will Pull that Trigger" & that moment the wrong word was used "Jealous" to her & her knowing she literally was gonna Cut Daisy With Her Words.
that shot at 2:24 is an incredible detail foreshadowing Daisy’s death - it looks like she is ascending the stairs towards a white glow (like dying and entering heaven)
Brittney was so amazing as an actress. In this scene, you can see Daisy give up. Just the look in her eyes as she's standing on the stairs. She was done with it all. Lisa destroyed her. Heartbreaking scene. Rest easy, Brittney. You're missed. ❤
Yea lisa was a sociopath. They have no remorse nor sense of thier emotional attacks. And if i was there i definitely would of stood up and said something.
This was the best scene in this movie… the acting was intense between all of them. From the evil glare in Angelina eyes to the tone change in Brittney voice you felt every emotion & it was amazing. Girl Interrupted is one of my favorite movies, very underrated.
This was the moment I couldn't with Lisa anymore. Before this, I was actually rooting for Lisa because I felt like she just needed to be understood. But this scene comes to show that she's really a sociopath, she doesn't care about anyone, except herself. And what she told Daisy WAS NOT the truth, and even if it was, the way she said it was completely intentional, she WANTED Daisy to snap.
If you come to think about it, Susannah gave Lisa some of her own medicine in the end. Lisa thought she was free... but she was not. And Susannah threw that truth right into her face and told her she was dead inside and that her heart was cold! She was in the breaking point as well... just not as much as Daisy. When Susannah said she'd rather be outside than inside with Lisa she broke her.
Lisa was disrespecting her in her own space. Daisy should have kicked her out to the streets. Lisa was just straight evil. She'd probably end up calling daisy from afr just to say the same crap too. Character was twisted and soulless.
I dated a narcissistic sociopath I used to think Angelina was doing too much. She wasn’t. This is exactly how they act. To this day, I don’t understand how she did this role so well.

Angie's acting in this film was unbelievable. She was absolutely incredible. Not one second in the film where her viciousness and sinister behaviour seemed acted. I was terrified, so terrified of Lisa that in this scene when Susanna kept telling her to shut up, I was so anxious about Lisa's reaction, because she's so unpredictable and evil. Oscar so well deserved.
@Hairway to Steven Lisa was the showy character while Winona's character was more introvert. Her performance was nuanced and comparing their whole career, she's a better and more versatile actress than Angelina
This scene is so well executed, it always ends up in my recommendations and I always click on it. It's mesmerizing, the micro expressions, the music eerily on the background, that little smirk of Angelina it's captivating. It gives me the chills.
Unfortunately, truth in television. The movie took place in the 1960s, and I kind of feel like even today, there are situations where people look the other way when abuse is happening.
This was the 60s and also, like Lisa said, Daisy liked it. Im sure they had enough time alone with the patients and doctors and therapists for Daisy to say something, but if her weight is restored and her ED behaviour is cured and shes doing mentally, physically and emotionally fine but STILL hasnt found the words to say something about her dad, they wouldnt have much choice but to let her go
I assumed that her dad pay for letting her gone, even the doctor says to Susana that they were in 5 class hotel, and actually it is, they don't care about the mental health of the patients and just take the money of the families
Yeah sadly a different era where the “man” of the household did whatever he wanted and everyone allowed it. I still know families who let a cousin or uncle be a perv and no one says anything. 🤦🏼♀️
Lisa saying “you like it” was the most unforgivable thing she did and her most sociopathic moment in this movie in my opinion.

her breaking point was when lisa accused daisy of liking the abuse.
You can totally see it in her eyes! Incredible acting!
I notice that too, it was all in her tone and the dead emotion in her face
the light completely left her eyes 💔
Finding proper support is quite dificult
@@bigmona2741Even in the book it was obvious that her father had traumatized her deeply. What part makes you believe she liked it?

Great acting, but man she was a monster
tyler gnosis yes she was in this movie.

She called Janet ‘fatso’ (the girl who was severely anorexic)
Those words with a combination of this scene. You can definitely say she was meaner than Regina George
I read this comment when she started smoking her cigarette 💀💀😂
Daisy was right when she said Lisa was jealous.. not because of her release, she was jealous that even though daisy's father is a sicko, he buys daisy food gives her gifts and a place to live. Lisa couldn't stand Daisy standing up to her so she had to shoot her down.. typical bully behavior...
I never felt like the father ACTUALLY ever molested her. She was just an incredibly sensitive person and to have something said that was so vicious and vile hit her hard. I doubt the father would have been allowed to visit the hospital, or be allowed in the room alone with her if it were the case.

Very deserved award. Some of the best acting I've ever seen.
Why I think that second "everybody knows" was improvised??? Haha I think Angelina did it on her own haha

To clear up the confusion, she did it in the morning bc she turned the music on just before she did it. The music wasn’t playing all night, it was playing in the morning.
There’s a difference of telling someone the truth to wake them up rather than using it to tear them down
this scene is SO much more intense after you’ve already seen the movie because you know exactly what it means when daisy walks up the stairs towards the light

The scene before this. Daisy is being a friend. Telling lisa the store is on the corner and giving her money for her pancakes. Asking if they have any plans when they get to Florida. Hi I recently made a modern trailer for girl, interrupted. Would love for you to check it out. Anybody honestly. Lol.
It’s so true. Such a talent, gone way too soon. R. I. P.

Brittany Murphy plays Luanne in King of the Hill, I think she was very popular.
Completely untrue. She played in over 10 top selling films and was very well known.
Garret Hiller She was suppose to play in the black swan before she died.
her peak was late 90's, early 00's, she was beautiful and funny but we have to admit that her career was slowly fading.
The way Brittany Murphy walked up those stairs... you can just tell she was broken at that moment. Wow she was an phenomenal actress.

Yes, I agree. Angelina's role was more "showy" but Brittney's went deeper. Anyone can scream and act crazy just look at all the Housewives of whatever shows. It gets old real fast but, true acting is subtle.

She's an absolute sociopath not to throw around the word but she is what a sociopathic female looks like
when she said "That she like it" was the edge for her. She knows that being abused by her father was the worst thing in her life, and Lisa considering that she likes it was the end for her

Angelina Jolie is so relentless and intense and scary in this movie. She really deserved that Oscar.

the reason this scene is so great to me is because, As Lisa as Lisa shows how of a monster she really is, you can see the pain and envy in her eyes. You see her turn her pain into daggers that she uses to tear Daisy apart. in a scene where she can easily make Lisa's character to much of a villain. Angelina still make her vulnerable.
It makes me so sad when daisy says..."I have a chance....at a life"
After Lisa's cruel words daisy decided to end her life what a sad scene.
“Have fun in Florida”.. god..
I think one of the scariest things about Lisa and socio and psychopaths in real life is that they're so magnetic. The ones that know how to charm amd put people at ease. Like, you can sense something isn't right and these warning bells are going off but in spite of that, or because of it, you still want to be around them.
Kia Maria yup like a moth to a flame yet still toxic
Its because sometimes, they speak just enough truth and bold honesty to put you at ease and get rid of your unwarranted fears. Only sometimes do they come across a Daisy and rip their insides apart with brutal facts
And that IS the red flag. Run Run Run

Its called acting not face acting lol. That's TikTok not real life
@annwethenorth Face acting is a term used to describe when actors focus on their face instead of engaging with a character's emotions to present themselves in a headshot or during a performance.
"They just gave up" that hits me hard.
I wanted to cry at this scene. The look on Brittney Murphy's face just showed that she "broke". She realized that she wasn't better and Angie just opened up her demons; she was trying so hard to ignore and keep closed. Especially, knowing that her dad now had full access to her.

The background music progressing at 1:50 after she makes that comment makes the scene a lot more terrifying.
Three amazing actresses. Just brilliant to have them all in a scene together. You can feel the tension, anger, fear, restraint... It's marvellous
When Daisy says, “I’m going to sleep now”.. the look in her eyes is deeply haunting

When. I was young I never understood Daisy's issues and then when you get older your like wow and look at her thru a whole different lens.
agree
This was the moment I couldn't with Lisa anymore. Before this, I was actually rooting for Lisa because I felt like she just needed to be understood. But this scene comes to show that she's really a sociopath, she doesn't care about anyone, except herself. And what she told Daisy WAS NOT the truth, and even if it was, the way she said it was completely intentional, she WANTED Daisy to snap.
The truth always hurts. She shattered daisys perception or lies she was telling herself to justify everything with her father. She couldn’t handle it
If you come to think about it, Susannah gave Lisa some of her own medicine in the end. Lisa thought she was free... but she was not. And Susannah threw that truth right into her face and told her she was dead inside and that her heart was cold! She was in the breaking point as well... just not as much as Daisy. When Susannah said she'd rather be outside than inside with Lisa she broke her.
When you look back on these ladies's career, you can really see just how perfect this casting was.

So there were rumors AT the hospital that her father was abusing her and the staff just let her go home??? WTF
