Brilliant bit of kit. My leaking bathroom sinks have been driving me nuts. All sorted now. Thanks for the vid. Great stuff.
Thanks for the comment Alistair and glad the video was of some help to you ! 😀
The simplest basin waste fitting and the best explanation and demonstration on all UA-cam ,
You are professional 👏
Thanks a lot 😊
Thanks very much - love that there's people making just plain and easy to understand and watch stuff like this. Didn't know whether the foam washer was part of the packaging to stop the metal scraping but thankfully didn't bin it before watching this.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank-you for the fabulous "washing up liquid" tip. It made the whole process so much easier.
Glad it was helpful!
Guess what......just been to Screwfix after a complete bathroom remodeling, the last important job, seal the sink drain, tried to seal it twice...had a paddy, found this video, fitted it as you said and its dry.
A big thank you buddy for taking the time to do this, cheers 👍
Great to hear mate, that sort of comment makes it all worthwhile. Thanks again and glad it helped you out ! Cheers 👍😎

Just been to purchase one of these and they are brilliant! No mess easy to install and watertight! So far anyway! Thanks for the video it has saved me making a hell of a lot of mess with silicone and what not! If i can do it anybody can 👍🏻
Glad I could help buddy, thanks for the comment 👍😎
Thanks for doing this. Just bought one, so hoping it'll work, been a nightmare.
No problem, hope this works for you and thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks for the video. Gave me the confidence to do the job myself. Didn't use any sealant or plumbers' mait
Thanks Simon, hopefully it all worked out well for you ! Thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks for posting! Like everyone else who ever fitted a basin waste, I've been struggling with leaks. Off to Screwfix tomorrow.
Glad I could help!
I was waiting for the pop up end bit 😄
😂
Sir! You have made my day! 2 days were trying to realise what have I done wrong and why is it leaking 😊 with your tip everything was sorted in 10 mins for couple of quid 👍
You are most welcome 👍😎
Thanks for going to lengths to post this, you have solved an issue and future trips to a rental property 👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful Tony, thanks for the comment 👍
@@Bacrenfencing Very helpful and you explained it very well. I have subscribed.
Great video thank you. Parents had a leaking basin waste from the treads. Ordered plumbers mait, new P trap, silicone, new basin waste from Screwfix. Then saw this video after. So got refunded on plumbers mait and silicone as not needed. The kit seals a treat! What a brilliant solution!
Thank you kindly and I am glad that this worked for you - yes, it is a great piece of kit and cheap too ! Thanks for the comment 👍😀
Thanks for the advice I was having problems before seeing this kit on your video. as you say it doesn't leak.
Glad it helped Keith and thanks for the comment
Thanks for this easy explanation. Just what i needed.
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment 👍
thanks for the video, very helpful way better than the old pull linkage that never stays in place.
Glad it helped 👍😃
First time I done it I did plumbers mate.... Its seal tight but nice video and instructions.
Thanks 👍
4 attempts to get a supplied silicone type washer to seal Ona new sink without success. Tried the washer as instructed (dry), tried with silicone and after cleaning it off, tried with plumbers mate, all without success. Came across this video and a quick trip to Screwfix later for the Dudley kit and first fit, I had a dry joint. Just the job. The only thing I thought I might have to do was cut off some of the Dudley seal to make it thinner as it was a close thing whether I could get the sink trap on as there wasn’t much exposed thread left but regardless, great product and I’ll carry one from here on. Cheers
Thanks for the comment and I'm glad it worked for you. Yes, you need to ensure that the pop up waste has a long enough thread. I should have mentioned that in the video.
@@Bacrenfencing That’s fine, I’m sure with a careful cut with a hack saw I could have remedied the new issue. Reading your other reviews it’s clear that plenty of folk have encountered the same situation. It’s the great thing about UA-cam though, discovering (simple) solutions you didn’t know existed. Cheers
👍
Great video, really clear. Unfortunately I did everything you said and the leak was actually worse than before. I'm now wondering if the leak isn't from underneath the sink but if the click waste is somehow letting water through the seal
Hi James, The easy way to check if it is from the upper seal is to fill the basin full of water. Leave it for a while and if the level drops, you will know that the upper seal is letting through water or the seal on the clicker is letting water through. Try that to see if that is the case. If you are letting water out of the basin (i.e taking the plug out etc) and get a leak, then it will be the rubber washer underneath - possibly it just needs tightened up slightly. Let me know how you get on and I will get back to you ! 👍
Thanks Pal, saved me some head scratching. Didn't know about lining up the gap with the overflow. 👍
Glad it helped Bill, thanks for the comment 👍👍
I've just put one on my new sink, but don't seem to have much thread left for connecting waste pipe/trap, haven't nipped it up yet. So how much thread should I have
You need to ensure that your pop up waste has a long enough thread.
Very helpful channel. Really knows his stuff. Cheers

Thanks for making this video so simple to follow and the seal kit which I had never heard of is fantastic bathroom sink finally stopped leaking 10/10
Thanks for the comment and I am happy that this worked for you - glad the video helped 👍😀
Thanks for the video, the fairy liquid was a pro tip :)
No problem, thanks for the comment
Brilliant it worked - Thanks!
You're welcome!
Wow, thanks for the reply to my message. I was wondering if I would find an easy fix. Thanks.
Glad to help 👍
Do they make this kit for 1 and 1/2 inch waste?
No, I think there are only 1 1/4" (32mm) available to fit standard basin waste.
Good video. Please can you help out on why my residual waste tail is too short? It looks the same length as the video before assembly. Thanks
If you mean your actual waste is too short, then this kit will not work. You need to be able to fit the rubber washer and the back nut - some wastes are too short to allow you to do this. In that case, best to use traditional plumbers mait or silicone (or buy a new waste for a few pounds). I hope this helps ? 👍
Looks like an ideal solution to my problem. Question: is the large, black plastic nut part of the Dudley kit or part of the waste? Because I ordered three of these and there's no black nut, and the nuts supplied with the waste barely contact the underside of the white part...
The nut is part of the actual waste Tim.
@@Bacrenfencing Thanks! I had to order some 40x65mm plastic nuts to mate better with the white collar, but these things are fantastic! So easy to install with no faffing about with silicone or plumber’s mait!!!
Hi,
Thank you for the excellent video which has helped a non plumber such as myself.
After going on 12 months of trying to stop a leak under the bathroom basin with Plumbers Mate (without success) I now have a leak free bathroom basin, THANK YOU SO MUCH😊
If ok please may I point out one possible bit of confusion ref the Thomas Dudley kit?
I bought the kit from Screwfix and duly set about replacing the old set up, the confusion for me was in your video where you mention the black plastic nut to tighten up under the sink once all done?
This nut is not part of the Thomas Dudley kit, which is not too much of an issue as I have used the original nut but felt it might be worth mentioning to you.
Hope you don’t mind.
Kind regards
Paul
Thanks Paul, I'm glad this helped you out. Yes, I know I made the mistake when making the video. the nut is the nut that comes with the waste that you are using. Thanks for the comment 👍
great video , but the white washer under the sink has a bigger hole diameter than my brass the nut...
👍
The kit i got from screwfix didnt have a backnut. It came with athe big black washer the white plastic bit and a soft washer..
Rob, the back nut will come with your actual waste fittings. Apologies if this was not clear in the video.
cheers for the headsup. nothing worse than water damage for a landlord. I'll try this on the next sink.
Thanks for the comment Peter 👍
I loved the video ,really amazing and very helpful ,Thanks
Thanks for the comment Adroit, I am glad you found the video helpful. Thanks again for the comment, much appreciated 👍😃
I have a sink, installed and tested as you did. Using the washers supplied with the sink waste. However I decided to test the overflow by adding more water till it overflowed. I then found water leaking through the threads of the waste pipe underneath. Will the device you showed fix this? Does the tapered cone screw onto the thread?
Hi, Yes this will fix that, the cone has soft rubber which moulds round the thread of the waste (i.e seals the threads of the waste). I am 99% sure that this will work for you - worth a try I would say. Thanks for the comment 👍
Great Vid but the problem I've had isn't from the seal in the basin, its caused by the overflow. My basin and pop up are the same as in the video. As the overflow doesn't physically connect with the pop up waste (as my kitchen sink does) the water doesn't go directly to the waste pipe, instead it enters the 'chamber' between the waste and the basin and only empties into the waste when the chamber fills to the height of the slot in the pop up. This is always going to leave some water beneath the level of the slot which over time might be an issue. I'm sure this Dudley seal will give me a great result and thanks for that, but the OCD in me is annoyed that I'm not getting rid of every drop of overflow water.
Thanks for the comment, I hope this works for you. Sorry about the overflow !
@@Bacrenfencing I’ve done it now… it works fine thanks.
OK just watched this vid after fixing my leaking new bathroom sink. However ,could you explain how the conical washer stops the leak. As the leak is generated by water running between the threads from the overflow slots. And not through the bottom seal. I only know this, as I pulled what little hair I have out trying to work out why it was leaking. And was told first hand from a plumber that silicone on the thread was the only way to stop the leak.
The conical washer stops leaks from the threads due to it's shape. On normal waste washers which are generally flat, you most always get a leak from the threads of the waste fitting - hence why this has the conical washer design. You can of course use silicone or plumbers mait, but I have found this item to work every time if installed correctly and there is no mess.
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome 👍
Top tip. Thanks.
Glad to help 👍
Excellent video. Thanks
Thanks for the comment Max, I am glad you found the video helpful 👍
Thanks for the video. Do you still tighten the black nut with a pair of grips? Is the plastic strong enough to withhold the pressure/force?
Hi Gary, If you just nip up the plastic nut with a set of water pump pliers or grips - not too hard, it just needs "nipped up", be careful not to over tighten, it does not need much. I hope this helps 👍
Thank you for responding, really appreciated.
Thank you so much for this video for two nights i couldn’t get the sink to seal up i was having a nightmare before i found your video, one question i’m worried that i’ve damaged the plastic nut because when i tighten it, it tightens up but gets to a point and then slackens right off again, have i damaged it?
No problem, I am glad you found it useful. Regarding the plastic nut, I assume it is the nut that is on the bottom of the waste ? It sound like you may have stripped the threads, may be best to get a new nut something lime this amzn.to/3oWyAuQ just make sure that it is the same thread which it should be (1 1/4") 👍
@@Bacrenfencing thought i might have, i’ve ordered a brass nut so i can make sure it’s tight, at the moment there’s a small leak but i can’t tighten the nut up enough, thanks for your help 😃
Lifesaver !! I was at my bloody wits end with a leak. Cheers min ;-)
Cheers Alan, I hope this worked for you and glad the video was of some help ? These kits are great when installed correctly, they will not leak ! 👍😃
@@Bacrenfencing video helped a lot I assure you.
@@crackberryal That's good to hear Alan, thanks for letting me know !
Thanks for video, I am about to fit the kit, I see other people taking the rubber off the top where the plug is and using silicone instead? I personally hate silicone, did you use any on the top where the plug is?
Hi Francis, There is absolutely no need to put silicone round there. Just fit the foam ring to the pop up waste and place it in the basin. Next, fit the rubber cone washer underneath and then tighten up the nut. If you do all this correctly, there is absolutely no need for silicone - that is the whole point of using this kit. Good luck with the install and please let me know how you get on - thanks for the comment ! 👍😎
@@Bacrenfencing thanks for the advice I used the foam washer underneath the basin on top of the rubber one, I know by reading your comment thats probably wrong but it's worked, thanks for the video 👍
@@FrankieWells Hi Francis, Yes the foam washer should have gone on the upper side of the basin and the rubber underneath but if it has worked then fine ! I think the foam washer is more just to protect the ceramic than anything else, it is the rubber cone washer that does all the sealing. Thanks for the comment !
These seals are great, pop-up click-clack wastes not so much. They jam up and corrode quickly. I have now switched to swivel (flip) basin wastes.
Thanks for the comment 👍
So I already have a pop up waste. And I wanna buy this kit. But where do you get the white foam washer that goes up top? Thanks
If you buy the original seal kit from Dudley on this link amzn.to/3gzRPpm the foam washer is included in the kit. I hope this helps 👍
I just watched another video where the guy had the foam washer underneath between the black cone washer and the white plastic piece which seemed to make more sense. Are you sure it’s meant to go where it will be exposed to water?
I purchased one of these from Screwfix, but there was no fixing nut in the pack. Should the nut come with the seal????
Apologies, I made a mistake in the video, the nut does not come with the seal, it comes with the pop up waste or it will be on the original waste fitting. The kit comes with the cone washer, foam ring and plastic spacer. You will be able to use the nut on your existing waste or if you buy a new waste, the nut will come supplied.
Wish you could get these for my 40mm waste
Thanks for the comment David 👍
This kit is does work, however once I've fitted it and put the washer nut on it didn't leave me with enough thread on the waste to screw on the p trap. I guess I need to get a longer waste....?
Yes, you will need a longer waste, I put a link in the description to the one that I used if interested. Thanks for the comment 👍
@@Bacrenfencing thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated
@@Bacrenfencing Just wanted to say thanks again. Went to screwfix and got a longer (88mm) waste. Everything fits perfectly and so far no leakage 👌

do they do one for a bath, too? cheers
Not that I am aware of, just basins I think ?
Different sort of overflow set up on a bath , push fit flexy , so not required.

Sorry to hear that, I've never had any issues with these at all.

I cant get the white plastic washer over the big washer. Is there a trick to get it on literally struggling for ages lol
see my earlier reply
Mine comes with a white foam washer shall I use it and where does it go?
Hi, The white foam washer goes onto the waste before you install it. In other words it goes between the waste and the actual ceramic basin, I hope it makes sense. Apologies, it was not too clear in the video. Thanks for the comment and I hope this helps 👍😀
@@Bacrenfencing your video helped me alot as im now fitting it! Fingers crossed !
My foam washer raises the plug up so it does not fit as snug in the ceramic basin, looks like someone filled the ceramic hole with filler . shall I take it out then foam washer off then?
@@mecharobots Best to scrape all the old filler off and then us the foam washer. If it is still a problem, then don't use the foam washer, just use some clear silicone sealant. If you put a bead of clear silicone all the way round the underside of the plug assembly and then push it in to position, this will do the same job. You could also use plumbers mait putty to seal the assembly. Hope this helps !
Bacren Property :Any suggestions , I have bath tub leak especially when I fill it up and let the water run through then it leaks ,if I use the bath tub as normal there is no leaks of water , your help much appreciated
If it is filled up and leaking, it will be a leak from the actual overflow. You need to see where the leak is coming from, it may be from the top or the bottom where it overflow pipe meets the main waste body. In either case, you can renew the rubber washers or you may get away with dismantling the waste components and then applying a clear silcone to all sealing faces, then reassemble. Hope this helps a little ? 👍
@@Bacrenfencing Thanks for your comment, I'll try it today hope it will help
@@adroitaddy5215 Let me know how you get on but hopefully you get it sorted !
Sounds like your overflow pipe is not on properly I secure mine with jubilee clip top and bottom they never come loose
@@johnjtplastering6991 thanks for your comment ,I checked it all over and tried to sort it out bu it still leaks right under the tub where the drain of the tub goes in ,or where tub sits on the drain pipe , it does not leak often it does occasionally now ,but only when we the fill water in tub and drains the water then it does leaks other than that it does not anymore ,but it does leak very little , everything seems fine now all the fittings and rings in the drains too but still ?
Washing up liquid does help it go up but also rots the rubber
Thanks for the comment, yes, I have heard this, but not sure that a small smear will do any meaningful harm to a 25mm think cone washer. If any one is concerned about this then they could always use vaseline or a similar alternative lubricant.
Your test at about 6:30 to 6:50 doesn't test the whole system. All it does is prove nothing is getting through the pop up plug or the white foam washer to the waste. In order to test the water-tightness of the black conical washer you need to open the pop-up plug and run a tap for a while (obviously after connecting your sink waste to the household waste plumbing) to see if anything gets past the black washer or through the threads.
Thanks for the comment, I obviously could not do that test as the basin was not connected. You tend to find that basins will very rarely leak when running water through the system with zero pressure. Thanks for the comment though.
I have one slot in sink but all the basin wastes have 2
Not sure what you mean ?
@@Bacrenfencing in the porcelain there is one slot but the basin wastes typically have two slots opppsite one another. Is that normal or old? I can see why the opted for the plastic centre pin basin waste instead previously.
Shame they don't do a bath version.
I know.........thanks for the comment
They don’t fit on all waste because of how long the thread is
I said that in the video
Tried this. Absolutely useless if your waste thread isn't long enough to fit the plastic pipe sufficient for it to seal once the Dudley seal is fitted.
Hence why I put a link in to the pop up waste with long thread.
They don’t work it still leaks down the thread!
They only leak down the thread if the nut is not tightened up enough in my experience - I have never had one of these leak. Have you tried tightening up the retaining nut to its full capacity ?
2m23s
Thanks
Tried this and still getting leaks 👎
Sorry to hear that, have you installed it correctly ? I have never known these to leak if installed correctly - thanks for the comment 😊
@@Bacrenfencing My bad, it wasn't one of those, it looked the same but I removed it today and it was different. Going to Screwfix tomorrow to get one 👍
@@luvit7567 Thanks for the clarification, I hope the one from screwfix helps you sort out your leak - it should do if you fit it correctly. Good luck and please let me know how you get on !
All sorted, I ended up redoing it with the same one, but used a good amount of PTFE tape on the threads (thats where it was leaking from) I'd already done this a few times (very frustrating) but all this was inside a wall hung 500mm basin unit with draws and very, very difficult to grip the large nut to tighten it, I removed the draws (again the manufacturer don't make this easy) and that made all the difference. No more leaks.....Hopefully 👍
Thanks for the response, much appreciated and great vids, you've got a new subscriber 👍
@@luvit7567 Great to hear and thanks for the subscription - much appreciated !
You’re not testing the bottom washer until you let the water out of the sink and when you let the water out you didn’t check for leaks , it may work very well but an amateurish demonstration I’m afraid.
What do you mean not testing the bottom washer until you let water out of the sink (I assume you mean basin)? It is the seal between the pop up waste (i.e the actual waste and the ceramic of the basin) that is demonstrated in this video. The seal between the bottom of the waste and a trap is not demonstrated in this video. Not sure what you are on about ? A very amateurish comment.......
@@Bacrenfencing the video is demonstrating the Dudley basin waste seal which directs the overflow water into the slotted waste but would also leak just letting. Water out of the basin , by demonstrating that the basin holds water you are not testing that washer , when the water was let out of the basin you wanted to see if any water had leaked between the base of the basin and the bottom washer.
No response , not nice looking a fool is it.
When you buy a basin waste you get a foam top washer and a thin black bottom washer threat doesn’t work very well , this kit gives an improved bottom washer , they give you another foam washer and as he says he’ll keep the foam washer on this occasion.
@@MrDot9 Excuse me ? If you are such an "expert" why on earth are you watching a video such as this..........Honestly, you post a video hoping to help some ordinary people out (which it has) and you have to endure silly comments like this from likely weekend warrior types. Are you a plumber ?
Very long video that ends with no check for leaks after water being sent into the area that would leak! You have to run the water down the pipe, then keep going back to check for leaks - not sit there with the plug in and no water in the pipe where it usually leaks!
8 minutes of my life I'll never get back! 🙄🤦🏻♂️
You obviously have absolutely zero knowledge of plumbing, the leak always occurs between the pop up waste and the basin, hence why you fill the basin to check for any leaks in this specific location. I have no idea what you are on about ?.
@@Bacrenfencing the water has to go into the area you're trying to stop leaking. You're featuring the kit that fits under the sink, but not showing any check for leaks after releasing the plug & letting the water into the drain. These kits do not include the washer under the plug, so any leak from that part is irrelevant to your video. Why not just add an extra bit of footage showing the underside after you've sent water into the relevant part of the drain? Your reply saying the leak always occurs between the pop up waste and the basin is incorrect in this instance, as you're trying to stop the leak under the basin.
I cant get the white plastic washer over the big washer. Is there a trick to get it on literally struggling for ages lol
It should fit over no problem Antony, I am not sure why you are having difficulty ?
Bacren Property i done it in the end I used the black final washer to push into position. In your video it showed the white washer holding in place without the other hard plastic thread pushed against it which confused me
@@pro6seller I am happy you got it sorted. Yes the video maybe made it look like the white plastic washer was holding the rubber washer in place, but it is just meant to push against it when the plastic nut is tightened up. Anyway, you got there in the end !
Bacren Property Thanks for your advice and video solved my problem after builders failed to solve my leaking sink during a refurb after three attempts. Brilliant
