    I've watched a load of videos about basin waste leaks and this is by far the best - brilliantly simple explanations that a novice like me can follow. Thanks!

    CT1 - The next plumber is not going to thank you - I would only use this for something that is non serviceable or not easily accessible, as that stuff is more like very very strong glue than sealant. It will definitely do the job, but good luck getting it back off again. - Great video apart from letting people know that the sealants are the worst option for re-visiting this job a few years down the line.

    Thank you. Very good explanation. Other youtube videos only show one method and i was left not knowing wich one was best. You were able to demostrate 4 methods clearly and concised, and that any of these methods are good. The tips were great.

    Fantastic video! So many others only show one way and are contradictory.
    I'll be using the easiest way - #2 because no mess.
    If it doesn't work I'll get out the Plumber's Mait.

    Finally 1 complete video showing all possible methods. You only forgot to mention that if you choose 2 piece waste instead of 1 piece waste, you can rely on washers and don't need to use anything at all.

      yeah but in the UK, 2 piece is not really a thing, most people won't understand your comment.... maybe you should make a youtube video to demo it.

    Hi Mike, it took me several attempts. Your video really helped. I went from basic attempt with plumbers mate, then using the magic gadget. Still leaking after two attempts. Went back to basics, used plumbers mate top and bottom, no rubber washer on top,, plus cleaned sink carefully. Finally no leak. Fingers crossed, 😊

    Brilliant video, you make all methods look so easy.
    I wish I'd seen your vid first, as I used Plumber's Gold to install my pop up sink, which leaked first time.
    I think the problem was I didn't tighten the nut underneath enough, when I tried, the sink pop up turned on the topside.
    I ended up taking it all off and cleaning the unit as best I could (from the sticky messy PG).
    I re-installed the sink pop up a second time, again with PG and left it to cure overnight.
    I'll soon be going upstairs to run the water and see if I've got it this time.
    Wish me luck!

    I'm sure the double sided technique will work for putty and silicone. BUT not needed. Silicone on top side enough that it sqeezes put when drain is pressed in, and pipe thread sealant paste form not tape, on threads and you will be guaranteed leak free and easy removal in future. Use 99% alcohol and paper towel to clean silicone off top side immediately after tighten. Can be used immediately. But 30 min cure would be even better. Your welcome. I install about a billion of these every week so I have a slight bit of experience id say.

    If I use silicone on the top waste, which means no need rubber washer just apply on the metal things? From your video I can see you still put the rubber back at bottom after apply silicone but did see top part. Please advise

    • @mikebolt9753
      @mikebolt9753  Рік тому

      I like to use sealant on top waste and rubber washer on bottom waste.

    • @mikebolt9753
      @mikebolt9753  Рік тому +2

      You can use either the rubber washer OR Sealant for the top part of waste, both of which will give you a good seal. For the bottom part I like to use the basin waste washer. You can pick them up from Toolstation or ScrewFix for a few quid.
      Hope this helps
