Yes, the customer is _not_ always right, contrary to the old adage, but the customer is _always_ to be respected. No ifs, no buts. If I spoke to my customers like these people speak to theirs, not only would I be immediately dismissed for gross misconduct, I would be blacklisted from any public-facing employment for life. Whether you like it or not, we are allowed our opinions, we are allowed to provide feedback on a product, and we are allowed to complain about what we perceive as poor customer service. By all means refuse to take that feedback onboard but do so in a respectful manner. The customer is not always right, but the customer is King.

I don't understand why developer cos or large corps don't vet their staff better. They should at least be signing contracts that if they even once publicly denigrate the customer base in any way they're out on their ears. That it doesn't happen is why they're so emboldened. Kotaku has proven nothing is a step too far for its staff so I assume G/O just expects it to go under if they can't sell it. I think there's only 4 odd employees left.

SO many years ago, we were given what we were asking for. A game were we could choose gender, background, looks and orientation and carve a path of our choosing. It was called Dragon Age. And since maybe not everyone liked fantasy, they made a sci-fi shooter, Mass Effect. For a while they kept the money printing machine going but then they stopped like ten years ago.

Asian game markets (Korea, Japan, etc) were PAYING ATTENTION as that fiasco unfolded out here in the West and are well aware why it suddenly tanked and why people refunded. Sony thinks they pulled a fast one on us, but they shot themselves in the foot. When THIS is what they do to a game POST LAUNCH and it cripples a dev like it did with Stellar Blade, they aren't going to want to do business with Sony. This paired with the Helldivers 2 phenomenon has made it clear that doing business with Sony is highly DANGEROUS for any IP's dumb enough to sign up with them. Sony is going to lose the independent market and suffer greatly for this.
At its core, these are anti-consumer practices and once the consumer acquires an animus towards certain practices and companies, their COMPETITION pays attention.
In the coming years you are probably going to see a lot of corporate speak formed around the idea that "We aren't like THIS company" or "We don't include THESE features". Don't fall for those tricks either. We make these companies suffer and bleed revenue and we do it hard until they gut everything that has ruined this industry; lootboxes, battlepasses, microtransactions in full priced games, early alpha games, generally unfinished games.
Make it clear that attempts to swindle and penny-pinch the customer will HURT them.
Oh, and while we're at it, stop playing the field and performing lip service for studios. I see so many people go "Oh, they need more money than ever to run" and "Oh, the devs are so overworked". Yeah. That's called B L O A T. It DOES NOT require many people to make amazing games. One guy was all it took to make Pizza Tower and Lethal Company. It took like 12 college frat boys to make the original Halo: Combat Evolved, a practice continued in companies like No Man's Sky which was made by 12 people expanding to 15 by the end of development (Also for the people that aren't aware, this was another game crippled by Sony and went through a whole anime redemption arc to finish delivering what they originally promised and at no additional cost to the customer. It is GOOD now). These Fortune 500 companies that employ 300 people to one project? They are filling it with BLOAT. Most of those people, like a whopping 96% if my math is right, NEVER EVEN TOUCH THE GAME. Those are DEI departments, advertisers, etc. A lot of people who GET IN THE F---ING WAY.
So don't play devil's advocate. They don't deserve your trust. Support small studios and devs working for themselves.

The industry today doesn't have the same employees from the 80's. It's now a herd of snobby ass woke twats who haven't held a controller much less a cohesive thought.
Even though I would like for that to happen, people are now generally dumber. Due to the extreme usage of social media and the internet, the chance for another video game crash is lower. People just buy everything because it is new, popular or their favorite streamers are playing, with no regards to the actual quality. But still the industry needs to reset.
Customer here. I want good escapist games. Everything is the exact same hack-and-slash or action shooter now. There's nothing really new. It's the end result of everyone using the same standardized engines and tools. Throw in Fink's "you have to force people" narrative where every game has to be a social programming effort to "educate" the gamer on "correct woke thinking" and must be "inclusive" of everyone no matter how stupid and inaccurate it looks.

AAA outside of Nintendo is a mess. Today I watched a video showing the games released in 2004 - I compare it to now its an absolute shambles. Vote with your wallets ppl, support AA, Indie, VR - That is where AAA games were back in the mid 90's - early 00's in the golden age of gaming. Support innovation and creativity rather than corporate greed and agenda pushing.

They make decent games but their business tactics are absolute scummy af like never selling their games at a discount, shutting down harmless non-profit fan games, expensive subscription to basically emulate their retro titles poorly and of course releasing limited timed remasters to create artificial scarcity.
Nintendo is only better because they are behind the times by about 5 years on average. Now it seems when the industry corrects Nintendo will be the woke ones if this holds, but if nintendo manuevors around this and bucks its own trend, it can come out of this pretty well off.

After being a console player for more than 30 years, Sony's disgusting behavior finally pushed me over the edge to go full PC. Current consoles are underpowered PCs anyway. Welcome to the master race. For me, I was always a PC gamer, but got into PlayStation back during the PS3 era, back when PC was being plagued with a lot of sloppy ports and draconian DRM. I noticed a definite decline even early in the PS4 generation. Lot of the exclusives were boring, fewer in number, and the console shipped with fewer features. That whole business with how the Vita was handled also left a sour taste in my mouth.

I read books now. Eff the game industry. I spent a LOT of money over the past 50 years on videogames. No more. I won't even pirate them, I'm walking away until yes, we get not even respect, but recognition that the only reason these companies exist is because of our wallets.

The Helldivers' situation shows that we as the CUSTOMER have the power to push back against bad decisions made by these corporations. I'm also liking to see that the reviews for Helldivers 2 are slowly climbing back to "Mostly Positive"(It's at "Mixed" right now). We need to show them that when they make the right decisions, we as the customer will have their backs. Forgive but never forget, gamers!

I don't like having to say it, dood, but that is what made 80s and 90s and to some extent early 2000s gaming superior because there were no dumb casuals throwing cash at the most predatory monetisation scams and so we had completed games we actually owned. Now we can never go back to that.

Why did Sony care about forcing people into PSN accounts? Especially given that many of the customers couldn't even do it.
The thing that pissed me off was their arguement " We need PSN because it lets us ban people " Sorry Sony it worked fine while you had issues with it. Saying you need it all of a sudden after not using it ( PSN linking ) is just a blatant lie.
Currently it seems finally masses are moving and acting to throw all that nonsense out of the window. If there's some way to cancel all those Alyssa Mercantes, Jamie Marchies and whatever Gizmos i'm all into it.
