Alphadream. If they're not going to bring that back, at least bring back the Mario and Luigi series.
Midway and THQ
Midway since they were the ones that made Mortal Kombat peak.
Junction Point
Clover Studios, the game studio that created *Viewtiful Joe, Okami and God Hand.* Capcom didn't have to go and closed down that gaming studios. What is wrong with them?!
You forgot one of the most tragic Video Game Studio losses of all time - Westwood Studios. Founded in 1985 and closed in 2003, Estwood would spend nearly two decades as one of gaming's great powerhouses. This studio was the original developer of the legendary Command & Conquer franchise as well as such IPs as Lands of Lore, Eye of the Beholder, Journeyman Project, as well as media tie-ins for BattleTech, Disney, D&D, and others. It was one of many companies bought out by EA to gain control of their IPs. Westwood Studios was shutdown with their operations being absorbed by EA Los Angeles (Sound like a familiar story?)
This one. Right here. The closure of Westwood made me swear off EA games from then on, regardless of how great the games are.
@@manchesterunitedno7 For me, it was after the America McGee's Alice scandal that I started boycotting EA and made me realize they are just a bunch of greedy b*****
We all fucking miss Neversoft. Them guys were right up there with Radical Entertainment. Without them we never would’ve had Tony Hawk and Spider-Man. Thank you guys, you guys were real badasses
That studio is why I love skateboards. (Despite never using one ever) and kicked off the spiderman line of excellent games
@@Darkchao_berserko22 you’ve never rode a skateboard but you love skateboards? You’re a phony. This guys a big fat phony.
Or guitar hero
Japan Studio shutting down last year was a big slap in the face thanks to lying Jim Ryan’s big ego. I enjoyed both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus as the golden goose of the PS2 era. And Gravity Rush is excellent.
Senran Kagura too
The last guardian was neat and inventive. It'd be cool if we got a MegaMan type Colossus boss rush game to have different mounts than Argo.
A true shame indeed
Honestly when they shut down. It really marked the of Sony's end of the Japanese market. And the entire original flavor of Sony.
Sony has lose all the nearly the whole market over there. PC is even bigger then sony over there now.
@@zid9611 No wonder their games are coming to PC... Bigger market
I miss Midway Games. They were behind the Rampage and Gauntlet games. Now we'll never see HD updates of the games.
And Mortal Kombat
Well there was the reboot of Gauntlet by Arrowhead, but yeah, I agree with you. I can't even get my hands on Dark Legacy.
They also made spy hunter and the 50 cent ps2 games
Or Ms. Pacman, they basically erased her entire existence
I’m a lifelong PlayStation guy and I’m still frustrated by Microsoft closing Tango. No matter where or how you like to play games, that particular closing of a studio sets a very dangerous and unfortunate precedent.
I'm still mad at Microsoft for the whole "we need games like Hi-Fi Rush" debacle
Except Microsoft wants games like cod overwatch fortnite gta online etc that popular that can filled $69 billion void after Activision blizzard Acquisition
They don't give a crap about anyone who buys their stuff, they just want more. Endless greed and zero innovation.
I'm just depressed with it. I came to the realization that Microsoft will probably never rebound after the Xbox One debacle. They don't seem to know how to manage or even have a vision for their studios. They just aim for profit mostly by trend chasing. There doesn't seem to have any long term well thought out plan. It's just depressing.
Where's MIDWAY.& Acclaim & Sierra
Midway became Netherelam studios
I am STILL Super Pissed that from my Childhood Years, Capcom completely shut down Clover Studios, the game studio that created *Viewtiful Joe, Okami and God Hand.* Those games are THE Best Epic Capcom Gaming Masterpieces there is, for the PS2 System, Nintendo GameCube System, PSP Handheld System and Nintendo DS Handheld System. It's just not fair!!!!!!!
While Clover made great games the fact that most were platform locked to the GameCube really hurt their sales, the sad thing is that Clover's games were underappreciated in their time.
They would later form Platinum Games, which unfortunately is struggling right now. Bayonetta 3 didn't sell well enough to keep them afloat, and neither did the Playstation version of The Wonderful 101, which was self-published via Kickstarter.
@@insanehiker5587 And, that's the reason why I Absolutely feel so sorry and sad for Clover Studios being shut down by Capcom. Such a sad shame for Clover Studios. 😔😞😢
There’s a lesson to learn from these Studio closures. Single Player games are superior to Multiplayer games.
I really miss Hudson Soft. Mario Party games just aren’t the same when NdCube makes them…
They made Bonk series of games as well I miss thoese .
Not to mention the fighting game series that is now forgotten, Bloody Roar. I like how that the characters have the ability to turn into animals like for example, Yugo as a wolf, Jenny as a bat, Alice as a bunny, etc. I wish Bloody Roar would return in the future. Anyone agree?
Can't believe you didn't add EA Big
Ssx
The def jam series
Nfl Street
NBA street
Fifa street
Nhl street
They were the best studio to make sports games fun.
I wish the studio that makes hi-fi rush still open
Don't forget kojima productions that was at Konami; though I don't know if you would count that 100%, but it was a shame how the fox engine was unfortunately shamefully wasted.
Honorable mention: Black Box Studios, Pretty much the Golden Age for NFS Games since 2002 & closed its doors in early 2010
Only involvement Disney Interactive had with Kingdom Hearts was telling Square what not to do with Disney IPs
Rip Tango 🙏
I remember "Humongous Entertainment" developers of the Pajama Sam, Putt-Putt and Freddie Fish, great games when I was a kid.
Backyard Baseball and Spy Fox for me.
I am sick and tired of seeing game studios being sacrificed because of their publishers’ poor decisions. To any game studios still surviving today: Do not make deals with big publishers. Stay independent and make allies with those who actually value your work.
There's also:
1. Big Red Button: This was a startup studio established by former Naughty Dog members who were hired by Sega to make a new Sonic game, which turned up as the awful Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Before development began, they approached Sega with a Crash tech demo to prove that they are indeed the guys behind Crash. After Sonic Boom, they shut down. It's a shame they didn't last long enough to work on Crash again with Activision now that Vicarious Visions is gone and Toys for Bob has gone indie.
2. Nana-On Sha: The studio that was responsible for Parappa. After Parappa the Rapper 2, the studio went silent until they returned with a brand new collaboration with Majesco and Rodney Greenblatt: Major Minor's Majestic March. The game was a Major failure, and Nana-On Sha fell to financial ruin. Years later, Masaya Matsura, a key member of Nana-On Sha, would later start a Kickstarter for a Parappa successor codenamed Project Rap Rabbit, but it failed to get funded due to ongoing bad stigma surrounding Kickstarter following the release of Yooka-Laylee and Shenmue 3.
3. Compile: Not to be confused with Compile Heart, Compile was responsible for the Madou Monogatari series, which Puyo Puyo was based on. After Puyo Puyo~n, the company suddenly went under, and Sega bought all their IPs.
4. Blue Angel Studio: a mysterious studio responsible for only one game: The Nintendo 64 version of Resident Evil 2. I wonder why they disappeared after that?
5. Eurocom: A company that is known for their Nintendo 64 ports of Cruis'n World and Hydro Thunder, and known for their work on Spyro: A Hero's Tail and Goldeneye 007 Reloaded. Their last game was 007 Legends, which was a colossal financial failure as Activision rushed development of the game due to the 007 license set to expire at the end of the year. As punishment, Activision forced Eurocom to shut down for "incompetence".
We're literally living in a gaming dark age - this is a great indicator of why year by year we seem to be getting less fantastic games on release, followed by bombardments of negative reception and disappointment, ultimately leading to the closure of brilliant studios who are often acquired by companies such as Microsoft and EA and then not utilised correctly.
And we keep buying that's why they get away with it
@@AXL. Na man casuals keep buying the AAA slop. The hardcore moved on the inde's. I mean really look at game site that track data. AAA games are the same junk. And each game last a shorted time before everyone move on. Heck were getting to the point GOTY award are like the same 4 AAA company and inde that casual dont lnow about
Well we just got stellar blade, another crab's treasure, hades II, shadow of the erdtree dlc and multiversus so it's really just most of the AAA industry
A studio that wasn't mentioned that I miss is another EA studio in EA Black Box. Known for making some of, if not the best, Need For Speed games in the franchise with Underground 1 & 2 and Most Wanted as well as the Skate trilogy. They were merged into EA Vancouver in 2009 and then shut down all together in 2013.
do not forget Black rock studio , maker of Spilt Second
And I’m still mad scalebound was cancelled at platinum games
Imagine the scope of that game
Running on this gen’s hardware
Damn
We were robbed blind
Oh my God, don't get me started!!!
5. YOU TAKE THAT BACK! I LOVE THE GUITAR HERO GAMES! I WILL NOT HAVE ANYONE SLANDER ROCK!
1. Microsoft didn't get the memo that making a good game was more important than just selling more copies.
I mean, even Capcom was humbled by this lesson and took it to heart. Back in Capcom's dark period, they set their standards for a video game's success too high. One of their requirements for a game to get a sequel or be deemed a success was to sell 2 million copies. Some of these fails include Dragon's Dogma, Power Stone, Okami, Darkstalkers: Ressurection, and Resident Evil 6 and 7. Some of these "failed sales" were due to bad publicity/marketing, ill-advised release dates, being overshadowed by other games, or whatever. And many of their games that failed to meet that threshold pulled in positive reception and sales numbers that other companies would kill to acquire. And yet, Capcom's definition of "success" at the time was so far above what many others would dare to set, that what would seem like an adequate success went down as flops in their book. But at least they eased up since then. After all, Mega Man 11 sold just under 1 million and Capcom was happy enough that the next game is implied to be in pre-production.
Right?? I loved the generally more difficult songs in Warriors of Rock. It felt amazing to 100% If You Want Peace… Prepare for War by Children of Bodom on even medium difficulty
Welp that's the problem of the whole industry now: Making as much profit as possible despite shiting in the face of many fans who just want to enjoy a good game.
I also liked the Guitar Hero games, but Activision basically ruined the series by deciding to milk the franchise to death, releasing five to six games a year, some of them being mere reskins of Guitar Hero: World Tour (with Band Hero, the series' sole E10+ entry, being a rehash of Guitar Hero 5, which most fans felt was the worst, as despite good reviews from critics, I have seen people say it had the weakest song setlist and sales were probably damaged by the Kurt Cobain controversy.
While we are on the topic, we can easily say Vicarious Visions is another game company that should not have ceased to exist. They did the Wii ports to some of the Guitar Hero games, and also developed Crash N. Sane Trilogy and THPS 1+2, but Activision had the stupid idea to have the company absorbed into Blizzard, putting the brakes on THPS 3+4.
I still play them today; and even then I don’t need 8 roms worth of material, lol
Microsoft absolutely Sucks. Xbox is quite mid all throughout the years. Halo and gears of war weren’t all that fun. Should’ve just got a PlayStation.
Tango Gameworks shutting down after having a very successful Xbox exclusive (before it came to PS5 of course) is the biggest punch in the gut I've ever had in my life. I loved Hi-Fi RUSH so much, and the fact that Tango was pitching a sequel to Hi-Fi RUSH as well makes it hurt even more.
That is the stupidest idea that Microsoft did. Seriously. I wish the Japanese developer would still be in business today, so they would make a Hi-Fi Rush sequel.
Speaking of that Im so glad Epic Mickey is coming to the switch I can’t wait to play it 5:24 Who else is excited for Epic Mickey been on the switch
MojoPlays, This made me so happy! I liked and subscribed!
Thank you!
Not having the studio that created driveclub on this list is INSANE
LucasArts & Disney Interactive and AlphaDream.
Clover studio....helloooo
Viewitful Joe, okami, and godhand
*Visceral Games* 😢
You guys just name dropped Legend of the Dragoon. Mad respect
It’s sad that despite high quality and/or quantity or at least some potential, companies like these ended up closing down
I Miss Lionhead Studios 😢
What about Telltale games? I mean yes, they have somewhat been brought back, but it's not what it used to be!
I mean they kind of did it to themselves though. Using the same formula without really innovating or anything, it was going to go stale very fast.
@brandonjones5879 i can agree on that, but some games were amazing! The first WD, Tales from the borderlands, A wolf among us, Batman (especially enemy within), and even GOT! They still released some bangers
I miss Visceral Games and Tango Gameworks the most on the PS3 or on the PS4
Never forget Westwood Studios, the men behind Dune 2 and the Command and Conquer series. 1985-2003
Honorable mention:
Hudson Soft
The defunct Japanese video game company was known for franchises such as Bomberman, Bonk and Bloody Roar. Among other things.
I miss Bizzare Creations. I loved PGR3&4, The Club, Blur and underrated 007 game Blood Stone. Another victim of Activision acquisition and subsequent closure. A thread throughout this video is EA shutting down studios, which must surely be worrying for anyone working at Codemasters.....
Shout out to Vicarious Visions who made the incredibly good Tony Hawk 1+2 remake. They were planning to make Tony Hawk 3+4 until Blizzard decided to make them Blizzard North. Silver lining is that they made the amazing Diablo 2: Resurrected but sadly aren't getting the proper credit under their former name. That design team made some of the best remakes in gaming and deserved to be bringing more of our childhood favorites to the modern era of gaming!
I mostly remember Lionhead for The Movies; it had such a fun movie maker mode
My most missed studio is Looking Glass. We wouldn't have immersive sims without that phenomenal dev. Ultima Underworld I & II, System Shock 1 & 2, and Thief I & II are three of the greatest duologies in gaming history, and it's still a shame that the studio closed down when they were at their peak.
How about FASA Studio, a subsidiary of Microsoft Game Studios, started in 1994. Makers of the legendary MechWarrior games. Officially shut down in 2007. Their last game was a big flop, Shadowrun.
I wished LucasArts was still around…
We all do. The were the kings of adventure games and great competitor to serria
I miss Midway games
Really sad to see such amazing studios no longer being around
6:00 OH MY GOD, I NEED MORE TIMESPLITTERS!!!
I also miss Interplay because of two funniest game ideas of Earthworm Jim and Clayfighter
I hope Pandemic is one of them... RIP OG SW BF 1 and 2. Same with LotR Conquest... REALLY great games
Free Radical Design 💔 still hurts
I knew Alphadream would be on this list. Outside of Partners in Time (which was still okay), I found all of the Mario and Luigi games to be near perfection. I'm still upset about it going bankrupt.
London Studio deserved better. Sure, games like Eye Toy and Sing Star weren't ideal, but they were fun. The Getaway was a treasure, albeit an underrated one. They could've achieved so much more if given the chance
You missed Rare aka Rareware!
They made games of Banjo-Kazzoie, Jet Pac and Viva Pinta: TIP!
Miss alot of them so for, like Westwood, etx
Pandemic Studios was perfect.
I miss Looking Glass and Ion Storm.
Or Cyan, Core or New World Computing.
Looking Glass is still my all-time favorite game studio. They created 6 of the greatest immersive sims ever, all of which are incredible. Additionally, Ion Storm developed my all-time favorite game, Deus Ex.
@@rpgfan1187 Right? My favorite franchise will always be Zelda, but man does Thief come as a close second and Tomb Raider an equally close third. Bonus that Ocarina and Dark Project came out at the same time.
@@alyssamitchell8191 Ocarina and The Dark Project also both featured a twisting hallway, which was probably pure coincidence. That was definitely my favorite era of video games.
Oh and. FACTOR 5 they made those awsoome star wars game cube gaes 😢😢
Midway because they came up with rampage mortal kombat and gauntlet
I am still soo sad that Japan Studio is no more. I olayed many of their games from PS1 era till their last day from Ape Escape, The Legend of Dragoon and Ico to the games like Forbidden Siren, Gravity Rush, Knack etc.
Also they are responsible between co-op with Mediavision to make Wild Arms 😢
Luxoflux should get an honorable mention. We got the True Crime series thanks to them, and even though they weren't the greatest games, they were definitely fun.
I miss Modnation Racers a lot. 🧡
Lionhead fumbled a crazy huge bag
Ok you want it to make sense. Tango released evil within 1 & 2, and Ghostwire, the three being considered flops. Now they make one good selling game, and you don't understand why they got put out. One game usually does not save a company who have had multiple "failures" in the past
No I just check it out and read from Google is Bethesda one of the Best Game Studios of All Time what has been created Skyrim, Hi-Fi Rush and Starfield, defienitily Hi-Fi Rush my Personal favourite "Game of the Year 2023" what I have on PC, but I will buy and play it on PS5 too. It's sad Microsoft closed a number of Bethseda's Game Studios. But is there still a chance Hi-Fi Rush coming for Nintendo Switch too what I've heard from News? I wan't "Everyday is a Chai Day", let's Rock! 🌄🌃🤖👨🏻🎤🤟🏻🐈⬛🎮💚
Yup, it's sad. I probably miss Visceral the most be cause of the Dead Space games.
I knew Tango was going to be number one on the list. And AlphaDream of the ones mentioned is my personal memory of a studio shutdown. But another company I especially miss is The Neverhood Inc.
I remember in like 2016 I got a physical copy of Sleeping Dogs brand new directly from Microsoft for literally $1
Where's Telltale Games?
They got revived back in 2019
The list is about game studios that didn't deserve to be closed. Not ones that did.
THQ
RIP Tango Gameworks and fuck Microsoft
@mojoplays the person who narrator this video did a marvelous job 😉, okay how about do top 10 game company that deserves a shut down not for me but for the fans.
Japan stu closing was a hurt
Neversoft is amazing! I wish they were still making games!
Didn't neversoft make Hercules for the N64? And what about Akklam studios?
No Piranha Bytes on the list? The Gothik series defined an era of open world RPGs till today.
I would say honestly Squaresoft !!!! Parasite Eve and all the niche RPG games !!
They are still around they just merge with Enix. Though considering what square enix is now, your technically right
Of course yeah I buy a lot of square Enid games ! I just seems like squaresoft took a lot more chances
I know 2 other ones. Compile and Amusement Vision. both being companies that worked with Sega.
Compile were best known for making the Puyo Puyo franchise. But they did some mistakes with merchandising. Plus some poor investment decisions. As a result, they went bankrupt in 2003. Giving the Puyo Puyo rights too Sega.
Amusement Vision was responsible for making the OG Super Monkey Ball games. But after a while. They merged back with Sega.
Frontier Developments. Thrillville, Who remember that?
I'm still hoping for a new timesplitters and thps 3+4
Westwood studios
Ole Neversoft games because of Tony hawk franchise!!!😢
I REALLY want to play hifi rush. It looks like one of the greatest cel shaded games ever
You can still buy the game. I have it on ps5 now.
RED Entertainment for Fossil Fighters
High Moon for Transformers
I miss Clover Studios, THQ and Neversoft. Shame that we never got Viewtiful Joe 3, WWE Brawl got scrapped and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw Online got cancelled and Neversoft got shackled and turned into an Call of Duty making machine. This is why the Call of Duty franchise needs to die off it has long above and beyond has overstayed its own welcome.
*Electronic Arts enters the chat and starts censoring.*
Oddworld Inhabitants!! 😭😭😭
You forgot to mention westwoods
Toys for Bob. Although they've pretty much gone independent now.
So sad they closed could of been so awesome games
united front games
neversoft
tango game works
i miss them
oddly I actually liked "Fable Legends"
United Front Games did make amazing games and luckily I finished Sleeping Dogs and Sleeping Dogs DE but I wish ModNation Racers was still around
Only 2 this is actually true for
Shutting down tango was a big WTF WHY😢 moment
Flood my notifications
"Well, Electronic Arts happened!"
I feel like Visceral Game should be number one or number two on this list.
Ghostwire Tokyo was a really fun game and id easily take another.
bullforg, westwood
