God bless Andrew Sandoval! Every time I hear him speak about The Monkees, it reminds me of how thankful I am to have him out there doing everything he does for us fans. Thank you, sir.
Andrew should be made a saint for what he put up with for years with all four Monkees. We appreciate all the effort it took to move all these things forward. This was a great interview.
Thanks for doing this GREAT interview! Andrew's always my #1 favorite interviewee, and what he said about a PACJ box made me a very happy camper. Same with the possibility of a Day by Day Volume 2 covering the post-1970 era. I hope they both happen someday. I'll buy them for sure.
Joe, I love your Monkees Pad channel! This interview, like all the others, is rich with exciting info and details. Every Monkee fan should subscribe to this channel and watch all of this. I think the question about Good Times bonus tracks was one I sent to you, so thanks for asking that. I'm looking forward to the book, too. Any idea when we can see what the box the super deluxe edition comes in will look like?
I was friends with Eddie Hoh and can say that it surprised him somewhat that his work with the Monkees was as beloved and remembered by people so many years later.
Appreciate how honest he was about Monkees fans and how unrealistic they are about things like boxed sets and tours. It's like they're still little kids at times. I, for one, appreciate everything Andrew has done just in the last 13 years. We've seen more Monkees material than I ever dreamed possible only 20 years ago, when Nez was essentially retired, Micky was a morning DJ, and Peter was signing at tiny comic cons. And frankly, that's all because of him.
We are still little kids 😝. Seriously, when you find something as good as the Monkees TV show and their music you don't forget it. I must have purchased six copies of my favorite records (including a couple of Monkees albums) every time the technology changes. CDs, MP3s DVDs, Blue Rays, etc. I will probably buy them again.
@@RickFruckberry Can't disagree - I have multiple copies of the albums, too. But that doesn't mean we can't respect them and their associates as human beings, not just characters on a TV show.
I hope for the release of PACJ box and having the "Door Into Summer" with Micky on drums. It was written that Micky said that was best drumming on. What was released is the version that has Eddie Hoh on drums. But I still want to hear the Micky version.
Congrats Joe & Andrew on the book. I appreciate all that both of you do to keep the Monkees and their legacy alive. I am so glad to finally get an answer from Andrew concerning "Pieces" and a possible boxed set. I hope I'm still around to enjoy it as well as a "Good Times!" deluxe set with at least the four additional tracks that we all know about. Maybe a tenth anniversary edition ? A great many of us aren't getting any younger and as we know we all only have so much sand in our hourglass - there 's no turning it back over. Let's get it going RHINO - it's been nearly two years since "Headquarters" landed in my mailbox.
I'm grateful that the FNB Redux tour came about. I caught it at The Chapel here in San Francisco. It capped perfectly the other Nez shows of my life (Knott's Berry Farm with Red in '73, The Prison concert in SF in '76, Monkees' 2012 tour in Cupertino (what a show!!). Nezhead and Monkees fan 4ever. Thanks Andrew and Joe (I have Joe's book ordered).
I have waited for Rhino and Andrew to start working on the Pieces boxset. I feel the music matters more than these books coming out. I am for the music not a photo book costing alot of money. I want a Pieces boxset
Andrew won't make much money from the PACJ box set , these books however will make more money , it's not just about you , but for Andrew make a living from all this work as well.
I wish I had submitted a question for Andrew, my question? Can there be a 30th anniversary box set of the 30th anniversary? It would include everything from 1996 / 1997, Justus album remixed, TV episode, documentary, Billboard show (audio and/or video) concert with all four (audio and/or video). I know Justus may not be popular, but I love it and think it is important. I remember seeing new songs, videos and skits including Antartica... 1996/1997 was the Monkees last stand with all 4 contributing, it was a wonderful time, and it should be preserved. David shines on Justus. I miss DJ, PT, MN and eagerly await to be blessed with whatever can be released on LP/CD/DVD/BR from the Monkees. Please pass this on to Andrew and Rhino. Thank you, and I can't wait to get the book!
I'm used to being the guy explaining why the Monkees don't suck and they aren't just prefab ripoff junk!! My big sister used to babysit me and we watched Monkees reruns and listened to Neil Diamond records and she said it was not cheating it was TV But the four wanted to be on their own. And they had much success without the whole TV show. 👍😎
Andrew have you ever found an alternate version of Daydream Believer from when it was originally recorded? The released versions of the single and album were all that was found. I did purchase the Rhino 45 alternate version in later years, but it seemed to be Davy's original vocal over unfinished tracks. It was longer, and you could hear Davy sounding weary towards the end with Chip Douglas saying "I think we got it" as the longer version faded out. The live Japan version in 1968 had talk over with a Japanese announcer messing up that version.
Excellent interview as always is the case with Joe, unfortunately the sad fact IS that Micky doesn’t appreciate the value in his archive (I’m not speaking monetarily), that we are almost sixty years after the fact and just starting to scratch the surface is such a travesty and given his advancing age I doubt we will ever see much of what he has and it will continue to decay or just be thrown away. He has had decades to make use of it, just the video presentation in his current shows would have been appreciated 20 years ago by a larger audience than are able to see it now. It’s really unfortunate but glad there continues to be people (like Joe Russo) who are able to fill the void.
I fully understand there were likely many legitimate reasons why Sandoval chose not to do it, but I'm still mighty miffed that he didn't make his revised Monkees Day By Day volume available as an ebook, in addition to the formats he did release it in.
Thanks for this Joe! Looking forward to your book - I ordered two! Two questions I would like to ask if you do another Q &A with A.S... I know it's dumb, but I would like to have the incidental music from the TV show on cd - maybe the upcoming PAC&J Super Deluxe? Also, I would like to see an official release of the Billboard Live show - the final appearance of all 4 in the U.S. I was there and recorded the show on 8mm video, Gary S. video taped the show as well and so did Rhino. There's plenty of footage most have never seen... This is the start of the video I shot. ua-cam.com/video/7kHJE1OrxaY/v-deo.htmlsi=SqZfBm9eYHIAtOnu

Exactly. Without Andrew, the tours, books don’t happen. We fans are the beneficiaries. The Beach Boys are a comp and look at them.
Andrew should be made a saint for what he put up with for years with all four Monkees. We appreciate all the effort it took to move all these things forward. This was a great interview.
Love Sandoval ! He’s the Monkee’s best friend !

Big thanks to both you guys for the commitment to keeping the Monkees in the public's eyes and ears!

Great questions and answers!!! Thank you Joe and especially Andrew!

Good work Joe
Can’t wait for the PAC&J box
Keep your episodes coming ! 👍🏻

Smoke-Filled Dreams looks to be great book. I hope Andrew's next project will be a Deluxe set of Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones LTD.
that may just be how it goes...
I'm not really a Monkees fan but I find the episodes with Andrew so interesting. He clearly knows what he's talking about and doesn't BS

Andrew was the only one who could’ve done this
I would be excited to hear a Deluxe release of PAC&J although I'm not going to hold my breath for a Mike sung version of 'Daily Nightly'.
I have waited for Rhino and Andrew to start working on the Pieces boxset. I feel the music matters more than these books coming out. I am for the music not a photo book costing alot of money. I want a Pieces boxset
the books are in addition to Rhino box sets, not instead of...the time will come and the fans can have both

thanks, David...very astute observations
Hi andrew
Just wanted to know how many records did the monkees sell in 1969 in usa when their popularity went down
I fully understand there were likely many legitimate reasons why Sandoval chose not to do it, but I'm still mighty miffed that he didn't make his revised Monkees Day By Day volume available as an ebook, in addition to the formats he did release it in.

So that is why Friday Music spew out all these Monkees albums on coloured vinyl. Rhino licence the music and get money from doing nothing.
exactly...and "spew" is a perfect description
