i dont remember any horror stories about peter tork. i assumed he was a flower power type. HE was my favorite monkee. In the 70s I was not naive i figured he was having difficulties with a continuing career. it would be a surprise if that hadnt happened. i didnt think any of the MONKEES were hughly talented as big players. if he had a friend as close as JAMES here he must have been a good soul.

That’s the problem with touring nowadays…nobody spikes you with lsd.

I asked mike about this song once. He said it was a throw away song. They had extra time in the studio. He was asked if he had any other material, so they recorded St. Matthew. I told him that it is one of my favorite songs of his, and I hoped that someday he’d perform it live. I about fell over when I saw him perform it a few years later. It is a strong, upbeat song, with powerful vocals by Mike. He seemed shocked that I asked him about this amazing song. Thanks for the memories, and decades of musical joy you have given me, Papa Nez.

His voice sounded powerful. I was lucky enough to see him solo around that time. He was at the top of his game. Very worthwhile performances.

While I respect “Headquarters” especially with the contributions of Chip Douglas, there is no question that “Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.” remains The Monkees’ finest artistic album.

I'm the only person in the world who LOVES the reunion show "Hey, Hey, It's the Monkees". It's my favorite Monkees 'show' other than "Head". I truly don't get why no one likes it. I like "Justus" too.

Chip Douglas and Doug Dillard were of course wonderful on Pisces but , on the other hand, did deprive Peter Tork of instrumental opportunities well suited also to him. In concert, Peter on bass was definitely the driving force, yet according to personnel records provided in Andrew Sandoval’s books he seems to have only been recorded on bass in a studio setting on You Just May the One. Peter was impressed by the Pisces album but called it more a Chip Douglas record than a Monkees one. A great album though and to most listeners, the Monkees best

@TheMonkeesPadPODCAST - thank you for sharing all this little bits and bobs in addition to the great interviews with folks related to the project. Was Peter on a Shoe Suede Blues tour when this was filmed? I'm somewhat disappointed that he didn't acknowledge or react to the snippets from the SLC live shoot. I'm inclined to believe he would have been pleased - or at least curious - to see that the performance of "You Told Me" was on the set.

I think he was just put off by the idea of giving an opinion (endorsement) without having a chance to really go through it. Clearly unboxing videos weren’t his thing.

He clearly wasn't "in gear" to dive into the set, but he is so switched on and comical about it! The wry cynicism and the jocular tossing of the Davy disc-- remember: Just prior to the 2011 tour and for a few years before that, each of the guys went their separate ways and Davy, especially, had pretty much dismissed the notion of participating in anything involving The Monkees, saying that he "had nothing to prove, musically", that he could make a better living doing solo shows and even going as far as to say that he could never see himself sharing a stage with Dolenz ever again. So, yeah, Tork's honest disinterest yet comical appraisal of the last release that he had any significant involvement with is appropriate, especially considering that it is just a pile of paper with no real media to show off!

That was very odd, you would think he’d be grateful. I think he was much more after Davy passed. I assume that’s why this video was never let out at the time.

It would have been so much better had the film been included instead of the interview disc.

I love Peter, but he seemed aggressive here unless that was what he was like (?). I only met him once (but he was lovely at the time!)

Just finally picked this up 2 days ago. The least super of the super deluxe sets, but still great. I thought he’d have been a bit more impressed, since it is the most Peter-heavy set

I must be the only one, but I thought Chip was very antagonistic towards anyone involved in this project who wasn't Chip Douglas. Maybe he doesn't feel properly compensated by Rhino or something... but I'm just a little disappointed. Sounds like JR had a tough time keeping it moving in this interview as well, but did a super admiral job keeping Chip on track
