Removing the test points fixed the right trigger but it's odd I had so many issues with the hotkeys. Did I miss anything in my install and what do you think of the Funnyplaying GBA IPS kit?

You have to hold down just select to bring up the menu and then use L and R to adjust the settings

Also, the touch sensor works better if you don't fold it over and just kapton tape it in place in its natural position

YIKES, that's weird that a company like "Funnyplaying", would put something this bad out. Since they've been at this for a while now. I mean this one is supposedly their 3rd iteration of this, so... HUH... WEIRD.

Great video. I'd be interested to see other kits tested.

Thanks! I got two more GBAs so I'm keeping my eyes open for a good kit.

im using the same kit but with a white shell.. the shell was flawless on my part and never had those fitting issues. as for the soldering, im new but was able to put it down well, you may need to resolder it on yours. could there be a chance you were given an old stock of the case?

I managed to fix it by putting kapton tape over the soldered points on the back. It must've been shorting out somewhere.

This is to bad. I really loved the GBA SP mod i did from funnyplaying it worked perfectly and the quality was great. I wanted to do a normale advance next but i maybe gonna change to a different company now too

I'm happy to hear the Funnyplaying SP mod is good quality, as I ordered one of those to fix up an SP I got at a good price. I was very concerned about it after this. Would you recommend getting new hinges for the mod?

@@KeiRetroGaming Did some more research on the funnyplaying gba mod and it is sadly a common experience you had. The SP mod is much much easier. (and the cases look and feel really nice, i got an atomic purple one, which isn’t even available with the GBA one. Which makes me think they use a different process for the gba cases that is somehow worse.)
I used the original hinge pieces on my SP, but they can be quite tricky to get out and not break. (so having some spare isn’t a bad idea)

As someone who never owned a Gameboy Advance and spent a gross amount of money on a modded one that ended up being just so poorly made and actually unplayable it won't get past powering on so I was tempted to do this but sadly was never any good at soldering. I took electronics in high school and it was not for me ha ha I am not an engineering type or mechanical type much at all without a lot of patience, guidance, and trial and effort ha ha but if Funnyplaying offer a solder less kit I'd probably end up buying one 🤣

You bought a custom unit from someone that won't even power on?! Ouch. I managed to fix my GBA by putting kapton tape over the soldered vias but it's still a terrible design thanks to that screen bracket. Soldering scared me off projects like this for a long time but I'm happy I grabbed the right tools and gave it a try, it's easier than I thought it was. Flux is like a cheat code when it comes to soldering. Did you ever get that Gameboy working?

@@KeiRetroGaming Well it was a kickstarter project that had a lot of endorsement from creators here on UA-cam years back. Ohh 😯you were able to fix yours? That's what I would like to do with this one but I don't have any of the tools or experience and I don't even know what I'd need. I'd basically strip whatever is usable from it and maybe just convert this one to only display since I got the display case with the pledge.
Unfortunately I did not get it to ever work. I tried to follow a guide I was sent but I am not tech savvy at all so I am not entirely sure what's wrong with it but I couldn't get it fixed but at least I got it. Unfortunately a lot of other people didn't but I can't use it at all so it's not much better was like a 300 dollar paperweight 😭 I saved for years for it so at this point I have it in a display case but it's unusable. I thought to maybe give it another go but I don't think there is anything to save.

It wanted to be a great kit... Just didn't quite make it in my opinion. Definitely a fantastic screen either way though.
