  • How to use left over amber resin to create an easy DIY perfume.
    You can find our amber at www.violetandcompany.com or on Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/VioletAndCompany
    A lovely customer told me about this five years ago. All you need to make this perfume oil is a little amber resin, maybe about the size of your pinkie fingernail, some sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil, a container and a little funnel.
    Let us know in comments how you use your amber resin. If you try this method, let us know how you liked it.

      The Prophets Hands Charity : I didnt even know that they made resin blocks. 😊 I don't know for sure. Eden Botanicals has great absolutes and essences. I would start there. They have little sample vials you can get to try it out.

    Muchas gracias! Una pregunta, se puede hacer con glicerina vegetal pura en lugar de aceite de almendras o uva?

      Hello! I have never tried it with vegetable glycerin. What I would do it try it with a tiny piece in the vegetable glycerin and see how it dissolves and how stable it is. Then you could try it with a bigger piece. Let me know how it works. Thanks for your question!

    I use to get Amber resin from a Yoruba Priest in 1989. He brought it back from Africa along with soft black soap. This particular resin was soft and resembled dark brown sugar. It smelled like a rich warm vanilla and nothing else. I can't seem to find this resin anywhere. Others have some type of additional smell or additive and is now sold in cubed forms. Do you have the type of amber resin mentioned above?

      You can try the medium dark amber resin I carry. That one has warm vanilla tones. I hope you find it 😊

    I've tried to buy amber resin to replace the stuff that I have. There are sellers providing ample supplies of fake crap that smells terrible. The 2nd I bought smelled like cheap sandalwood soap and the third like old people's musty clothes. The latter had an orange stain if wetted with alcohol. I would love to get some vanilla scented amber and not get ripped off again.

      Thank you Violet & Company! I am so glad I went to your website and ordered some "Medium Dark Amber Resin". This is very close to the amber I know and love. I am glad to have your's to add to my collection and I'm sure I will use it and will purchase from you in the future because I was surprised by the speed with which my order came.

    Does the resin actually dissolve in the oil?

    • @VioletCo
      @VioletCo  5 років тому +6

      It partially dissolves. There are particles of the resin that will remain at the bottom of the bottle.

    Do you know if amber paste can be used in room sprays? I just bought some for the first time and didn't know how thick the stuff is. I don't know if it will be hard to mix. I was going to try to make a rose scented room spray with amber, vanilla, and some darker spices like cardamom or anise and maybe something woody. I'm not sure. I have to sniff my oils and see what might go good together but I want to make something that has a warm, sweet scent with a touch of dark spice. And if I can mix amber paste with just essential oils can I put it in a diffuser?

    • @VioletCo
      @VioletCo  8 місяців тому

      you will need to dissolve the amber to put it into another product. if you are going to mix the amber into essential oils you can try putting a few grains into your drops of essential oil and mixing it in there.

    What is Amber resin made of? Is it a particular tree?

    • @VioletCo
      @VioletCo  2 роки тому +2

      Hello! This amber is a sort if solid fragrance. It is made of plant butter-like coconut oil solids, essential oils and woods. It is supposed to be a musky, sort-of -sweet, warm scent. It is a plant version of the more expensive ambergris which comes from whales. I have also heard it is really not like ambergris at all though 😊 I just love it anyway.
      Hey- i just found this UA-cam video, this man is from Dubai and a serious perfumer. I think you will like this and he talks about his amber perfume. I wish I could try his. If you do let me know what you think.

    Is this doable with any resin? What about the harder resin, like your myrrh?

    • @VioletCo
      @VioletCo  3 дні тому +1

      Hello! The oil used will take on the properties of what you put in it. The harder the substance, the longer it takes the oil to absorb properties. Items such as myrrh (I am thinking of the woody, natural myrrh not just the select pieces of resin) will do better if the oil is slightly warmed and stirred for a period of time. Do not overheat the oil. You just need to heat the harder resins a bit to release the volatile oils they contain into the carrier oil. I have made myrrh salve in the past by gently heating the oil with the myrrh resin in it and adding some beeswax. I used it on cuts and scrapes. Anyway, if you want to extract scents from harder resins for perfume, you would be better off getting essential oils and mixing them into the oil because the harder resins in oil will not impart a lot of scent. The essential oils are more concentrated and work better for perfumery needs. There is probably a more educated response, but this is my simple answer. Hope this helps, and thanks for your question.

    How do I know a resin is good quality when buying online ?

    • @VioletCo
      @VioletCo  8 місяців тому

      Because this is a solid perfume the quality is in the scent. If you have any allergies that is also a consideration.

    you meant ambergris or amber ??? !!!

    • @VioletCo
      @VioletCo  7 років тому +2

      bur bur this is a "false ambergris" made of herbs, Essential Oils and other ingredients and it is called amber. Not to be confused with the fossilized amber used in jewelry and has other alternative uses. Real Ambergris comes from whales and is not used by most people anymore.

    This video makes no sense if you are new to this. She says it’s amber resin then says it’s not real resin, it’s made up of butters. What on earth is she talking about? I googled how to make natural perfumes with resins and this came up first but am none the wiser as to the concept. And the responses given to the queries or comments are just as baffling 🤨

    • @VioletCo
      @VioletCo  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Chiara the butters I am talking about are various butters like avocado butter or cocoa butter and coconut oil that go into making the solid perfume that is amber "resin". Some, including myself, call this solid perfume amber "resin" and I wanted to clarify it is not fossilized amber resin which is ancient tree sap that sometimes has fossilized insects in it. I hope this makes more sense. Thank you for the great questions.

    • @chiarabay9364
