I think both being a Manager and a Leader is being able to have ascendancy over other people. The major difference is simply that Leaders tend to be more emotionnal and people centric, while Managers tend to be more analytical and task oriented. Personnaly I feel like I'm able to be both and I switch from one to the other by letting my emotions loose or restraining them.
I m studying business management in netherlands, but trust me man, I learn more from your videos than from my classes here + it's much more entertaining to watch you than going to class
wow. So me and another kid are the captains in the wrestling team, I just realized that He's a FANTASTIC Manager, he keeps everyone in check but has little acceptance for failing, I see myself as a leader, I encourage, lead by example, and when people mess up I try my very hardest to ALWYA lend a helping hand. Even to kids that aren't on my team but if I see them outside in the hallway very upset at themselves. I get shut down half the time but those few times where I HELP people get outta a funk, that's why I do it
From all the people I met and were my influencers you still outrank as the best on all the others, thanks for coming back to us. 1 milion subs will only be the beginning! Hope to meet you in person after three years. Made an exponantial growth, and we both need managers and leaders to have a full construction!
I also think there has to be a certain level of arrogance to be a great leader. Not someone who is very cocky, but if you do not believe in your self, no one else can. I plan on making a leadership series too, great video.
A leader needs confidence; in both themselves and their team. Sometimes, depending upon the personality of the person, that confidence can seem to be arrogance.
I prefer the term confident but, it’s a very thin line and, nobody likes arrogance, it’s a natural and globally shared human reaction to arrogance in any situation so, this quote works well in that regard; “Humble yourself before life humbled you.”
Leadership is my choice of who I am. I have tendencies of Managers but mostly leaning towards leadership. It attracts me more because I feel that is my way of expressing myself to my people.
Led here through a class on management & leadership. Couldn't help but comment. This presenter is fantastic. I wish I could just have him explain all the concepts in my degree program!
I can’t believe I just found this channel I’ve been binge watching everyone of your videos and found out there is so much to learn appreciate the knowledge.
Be a leader is influence people, inspire them, take some risks, have a vision, etc (like Pat), but you need to be a good manager too (or have one). I consider myself as a leader-manager, sometimes more a leader than a manager and viceversa. Thanks for this great video.
Your choice between being a leader and a manager will vary according to the situation. One needs to have the emotional and business intelligence to understand when to behave as a manager or as a leader.
+Valuetainment Many of these qualities together show that the manager is to care more for the present execution whereas the Leader looks towards the future and reputation if anything. I don't watch TV all that much but I think one of the best ways this can be seen is in SUITS. Another way to describe Oak/Willow is that the Manager shows off dictation while the Leader expresses his or her empathy. Excellent comparison and thanks for your time and effort!!
By the way between Manager and Leader, I think I mostly take the Leader side. I can speak more when it comes to something to do between people rather than social situations. I think the qualities that make me shine in leadership are vision, address conflict, moving people forward / influence, giving credit, value, over-achieving, and love for risk.
I'm 80/20 on the leader side. The leader in me sets the vision and goals, defines direction and strategy. Then I try to become more managerial to execute all of it, work inside the boxes and make mini-systems to get stuff done efficiently and promptly. Leader oversees (being my own boss), manager zooms in and focus (diligently follow the leader's plan). I'm still learning as I go (still solo) but when I expand I plan to surround the leader in me with council/mentors, and essentially delegate the management to people better than me at execution and technical skills.
I am more on the leader side, at least i do all that i can, to become one, yet i didn't expected at all, that there was certain manager traits within me. Now, some serious work has to be done on those points. Gona re-listen this episode weekly. Thank you ValueTainment Team.
Right now I'm heavily on the manager side but do have some leadership qualities I am a brand new manager and learning how to lead effectively. But this video helps a lot
So I really enjoyed this. Thanks Pat. This is the first time I e seen someone pose a manager in a positive light. It gives me a new look atanagers and by extention respect. Now. Personally I've been leading teams since I was 16 years old, I'm 35 now. Each year I learn new ways to lead. I have no problem with managers but I see myself more as a leader than a manager
Just began a role as a training coordinator in a billion $ business, after being in technical roles for the past 12 years, think I tend more towards leader though all my strengths are in the strategic/ analytical category. Aiming for CEO one day so starting to devolop the people skills now. Thanks for your videos Pat!
I definitely have more qualities from the leader side of things although I need to be both to be successful in my current position. It can be taxing but I'm doing it and will continue to. Your videos are a huge reason why, Patrick. Thank you!
This is great, brilliant but the only thing l have a difference of opinion is at 4:00 , most managers l know "creare unnecessary conflict".. This unnecessary conflict develop ill feeling, loss of time and opportunities, from which they focus on "personal feelings" not on "... for the betterment of for the team".
I lean more on the leadership as far as putting in the valueables that is required to achieve good performance and a manager to fill another role of the system that is needed to be done in order to sell consistently.
I’m in minute 2.10 of your video when i write this comment, i must say THANK YOU PAT and THANK YOU VALUETAINTMENT, ok now i’ll just continue wacthing your video quitely...
As a business owner, and as I learn every day how to be a better one, basically every one of these hats must be worn in one way or another. A business owner must have a system or at least be constantly working on a system for their business to be effective. I always aim to communicate to my employees to think like a business owner. To have perspective from an ownership viewpoint allows an employee a level of responsibility and skin in the game. I would like to see EMPATHY in this list as I believe this is key in any leader.
I can say that i am a leader! My job is "warehouse manager" - verry little to do with the manager side, but a lot to do with leadership! I am a good leader wich always looks for improvement and efficiency! I am every day looking to make each job more and more efficient! And i can say during the 5 years sice i am doing this, it works better and better!
Such valuable content. I am naturally on the manager side, but I’m striving to lead better by focusing on knowing when to let lose as well as empowering others.
I see myself more as a manager because I'm a lot more of a logical person than a dreamer. Also, I'm pretty sure that the security of being a manager versus being a Leader ( In most cases being Entrepreneurs ) talks to me the most because of a very unstable childhood. I am seeking a more stable environment rather than a more dangerous way of living than Leaders live. P.S : Great content once again Pat, your 10+ minutes videos go by so short for me because you make it so lively, it's incredible. I'm a young student and I'm looking up to a lot of your stuff on how to be a great businessman, keep up the great content, take care Pat!
I'm definitely on the leader side primarily. Particularly when I claim ownership. That being said I understand when I need to be more like a manager. Currently seeking more managerial-minded people as I continue to get closer and closer to my dead line. #circleoflife

Yeah, the example that he bashes at 5:15 didn't lose his best people. The company has grown in revenues over the years, has excellent retention, and the CEO, Dan Price, advocates for investing in people and fair wages daily. Suggesting that paying everyone well means they won't pull their weight is not helpful to society or business. Stressed employees can't focus as well at work after all.
More of a leader. I know a great manager and if he pulls through for me right now we both get the exponential growth. He knows it's borderline impossible and so do I, but there's no other way. Eternal exile or perpetual bliss and it's simply a yes or no at the end of the day.
Holy shit, outstanding explanation! I realized I am 100% a manager LOL. Never thought of looking at it like this, it explains all the conflicts SO MUCH. You are the man Pat!
Great video. A lot of managers lack the charisma to draw people to rally behind them hence the resort to using the instruments available to them to drive people to deliver. I prefer having a good balance of both because I think it is necessary. I am more of a leader than a manager and I need to work on being "Oakish' sometimes.
You should be able to be both manager and leader, cause different situations require different solution. And it also depends on what phase is your organization. Be able to do everything, and do what is necessary

#22 Managers focus on quantity and leaders focus on quality

Hope to meet you in person after three years. Made an exponantial growth, and we both need managers and leaders to have a full construction!
I'm a Leader, Thank you for this confirmation! The clarity has never been clearer.
You're a charismatic leader for sure!
I also think there has to be a certain level of arrogance to be a great leader. Not someone who is very cocky, but if you do not believe in your self, no one else can.
I plan on making a leadership series too, great video.
You're already in trouble if you can't identify the difference between arrogance & confidence.
Yes is a big difference arrogance vs confidence, I won't risk big profits with an imbecile thinking he is all great no!!!
A leader needs confidence; in both themselves and their team. Sometimes, depending upon the personality of the person, that confidence can seem to be arrogance.

I was evaluating myself during the video. I´m definitely leaning toward the manager side!
This is where PBD is at his best. Love these 22 type videos.
I am 80% a leader. Got this video right when I was confused if I was a leader / manager
Right now I'm heavily on the manager side but do have some leadership qualities I am a brand new manager and learning how to lead effectively. But this video helps a lot

one of the best videos of Valuetainment hats down....
Video seems to have some mileage on it... But, just watched this for a business class. This stuff really crushes it.
2020 and still watching! Thanks Pat!!!
I believe I'm a natural Leader, but experience has taught me to start thinking and acting like a manager! Great Content as always Pat! 💪
Excellently done! I can definitely see the relevance of what a manager does and how the leader takes it to the next level.
I first become a manager for 2 years and I build leadership qualities and I feel I am able to balance Manage and Leading people
I definitely have more qualities from the leader side of things although I need to be both to be successful in my current position. It can be taxing but I'm doing it and will continue to. Your videos are a huge reason why, Patrick. Thank you!
Point per point made clear. And knowing my personality and attributes, I am a sure leader with no doubt.

I can reflect on a lot about myself after watching this video. Thanks for the insiders prospective of me, stranger...
I eat bowls of cigarettes for breakfast goku is a leader
I feel like a leader! I appreciate your time and effort.
FANTASTIC video and break down. It's fascinating how both aspects are necessary and critical to personal success. Thank you!
This is a fantastic package full of awesome and concise knowledge. So much great information in under 14 minutes! Thank you!
One of the best videos on this channel. I have had this exact dynamic in my company for years and it plays out exactly how you say
Just stumbled on this talk and I just wanted to say thank you! Very clear and straightforward
I lean more on the leadership as far as putting in the valueables that is required to achieve good performance and a manager to fill another role of the system that is needed to be done in order to sell consistently.
Perfect timing with the video !! Great info as usual!!... In terms of discovering which one I am, I have to say that I am a mixture of both!

the most valuable video, I watched this month
Hey buddy, You know Some times i think why am i doing this. others dont even care about it. But after watching your Video I am really Motivated.
Great video! It makes it obvious I have room for improving as a great leader and manager! Thanks for helping me taking a step in the right direction!

Hi Pat, very nice video. thkx. I more lean toward the leader because leader tend to trust, inspire and influence people rather than manager who tends to control more and look for credit. As a person dealing with authority issue, I rather go with a leader that put me in front of my responsibilities and let me do my thing....
Great video! I am a little bit of both, and even a little bit of both simultaneously. This will help me improve and become a more effective leader! Thank you sir!
What an intro pat . Offence and defence alluding to leaders and mangers . God bless . For me main difference is the edge of sanity or hypomanic trait
I have a leadership type of personality when I deal with people personal or business I have way of showing a example then I get them thinking of what just been shown then either I get them to think afew steps a head or I'll give suggestions advise or solve a problem. Just subscribed, love the content.
Thank you so much for this. I am learning a ton from this channel!
GOLD! Managers have to be leaders
Great video.got some on leadership side ,see this through leading myself and family.the rest is odds PBD taught me that.
This is brilliant! I manage the major/critical incidents in strategic ISP's domain for a few years now. I find the leader's approach doing wonders when you have to drive a bunch of brilliant engineers to resolve critical incident under a lot of pressure from senior management and the customer. They don't need a beaurocratic asshole telling them to do their job or they get fired. They simply need a guy who will jump out the trench yelling : "Follow me to the victory!" Sounds wierd, but that's how you spark the people when the shit is raining from the sky.
9-12 Manager-Leader; I'm happy about that, would like to step up and be more of a leader in my life and for my community and world.
I've always thought I'd fail in business because I use emotion more than logic, thanks pat for teaching me there's nothing wrong with a little emotion
+Halo Sedrick 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Great video! Very informative. I'm currently pursuing my MBA, and this video really helped me understand the fundamental differences between leaders and managers.
Great points! I have much room to grow but I'm a leader. Sometimes it's difficult working for a manager who can't see the greater possibilities for the business. I want to always leave breathing room for my team to know they can freely give ideas and even see action taken on some ideas.

A lot of Managers think they are Leaders ...
A leader never thinks like that
Can you be both a manager & a leader in a start up 🤷♀️. I feel like I’m both 🤣
@@angieg9361 then quit fuck managers
More of a leader. I know a great manager and if he pulls through for me right now we both get the exponential growth. He knows it's borderline impossible and so do I, but there's no other way. Eternal exile or perpetual bliss and it's simply a yes or no at the end of the day.
Love the valutainment channel and your charisma PBD, you need to have an interview with Gary Vee!
This video has so much potential content. You could write a 100 page book (at least).
Pat, make a video about stock market please:)
Yes!
👌
I am definitely a Manager. Ok. So now what? This video was brilliant. I know what I am. But Pat, explain what to do now that we know who we are.
Good information nice great information very helpful realy i like these

Part of me is a leader and part of me is manager.
I will be converting myself to a leader completely by September 2019.
I failed in that Target.
But I have not lost yet.
Still fighting. But now I think It's a life long process.
Am I right?
Outstanding lecture!

This is an excellent video, it's really one of the best and it's very helpful 💯💯 thanks for making this video
im on leader side and i thing need some improving on managing side thanks pat cheer :)
I can relate more to the leadership side, I can definitely relate to taking crazy risk, influence, and long term goals, but with a few exceptions I tend to suck with details.
I’m more of a leadership type of man. I always had conflict with managers because they in most cases (own experience) perform short term behavior and office politics. Being a leader is more of my style because I always tend to try to make my team better. Business is a team sport, your are only as good as your team
As an engineer I look at logical points to technologies. It means I'm part manager and part leader in other areas.
Leaders make sure the ladder is leaning on the correct wall. Managers make sure we climb it.
Perfect analogy!
...bit more to it then that, managers would tell you how to climb but leaders tell you how to climb to the top!
Great episode!
Respected Sir,
I think we need both the manager as well as leader, we just have learn to make balance between them.
I wish you with a great success and not millions but billions subscribers.
Thank You
