Thanks for sharing! I am currently going to Dr. Hauser for prolo for cervical instability and it has helped so much but the curve correction and eating more animal protein is MY JOB and something that will get me to 100% recovery. Also, FAITH, I go to Church and I pray and I BELIEVE through my innate which is connected to higher powers that I AM healing. Thanks Rachael. I admire you for blogging your progress and having so many people share their own sad stories with you, I hope this doesn't cause burnout and that you stay focused on yourself and your happiness. How did your injections go? I've done a bunch of pt and neuro plasticity and it only takes me so far when my neck structures slip right back to where they were and I'm back to sqhare one. My hand strength has improved intermittently, , but lots of the neurological symptoms are steadily the same.

I am seeing a doctor next week for what I believe I’m experiencing is CCI. I have EDS. I had a reverse curve. My chiropractor fixed it, but it took me a couple chiropractors to find her. She does only cracking for those who need it, but mainly does touching adjustments. She listens to your body by light one finger touching and then she touches other points to tell your body what it needs to fix. She never does cracking on hyper mobility people as it’s too damaging to the joints. It can be for people without hyper mobility as well. She told me to roll up a small towel and place it under my neck while laying on my back for 10 to 15 minutes everyday. After a couple months my neck went from reverse curve to straight to the proper curve. It has stayed that way ever since. Don’t know if it would work that well for everyone, but thought I’d share.

Hi! Rachael. I've seen many videos you made. It's great to see you back with a fresh complexion. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. Since my neck hurt from whiplash, i started to feel sick. I have been having balance problems for a year and half , and other neurological symptoms almost killed me! I found the similarities of your symptoms, which i assumed that i probably had CCI as well. After few times of prp injection, i did see a big improvement. However these symptoms are not completely gone yet, that makes me so sad. And the saddest thing is that i could not be cured because it requires highly skilled doctor to do the procedure in terms of upper cervical injection. I have no idea if i can find specialists in my country. i m losing confidence right now.☹ Anyway , i really wish you the best!

Hey Rachael! I found your videos a few weeks ago and so I've caught up on your journey in a pretty compressed timespan. You have come so far. It is wonderful to see you looking like you feel energized and comfortable. :D
My background is pretty similar - tick-borne illness, connective tissue destruction, severe CCI/AAI, POTS, IJV compression, Chiari hitting my brainstem. Unfortunately, there's not only laxity but damage (tears) in the upper neck ligaments. (Btw, I tried the Gupta program and can say it didn't help at all - although it was lovely and empowering, and I look forward to enjoying it for vagus nerve retraining once the mechanical damage is corrected. But my issue appears to be really mechanical in origin. E.g., putting on a hard collar immediately drops my heart rate 20-30 BPM ... closer to normal levels.)
So, I am about to try regenerative treatments w Dr. Schultz in CO and if that doesn't work I feel I'm facing a fusion. Having gone through your journey, what is your perspective on my options? Are there any other options besides prolo/PRP/stem cells you see for repairing the tears and tightening the upper neck ligaments?
Again, you are an inspiration and thank you for sharing your recovery journey. Out of a formidable challenge, you have created meaning, provided information, and encouraged others. You go girl!

I'm 33 and use to be a college athlete.
I was diagnosed with upper cervical instability and I have been workout intolerant for 2 years. After covid it got way worse. it's hindered my whole life. Im often off balance, dizziness, air hunger when working out or trying too. Sometimes I have swallowing problems when drinking or eating. Constant Brain fog, occasional nausea, don't handle stress well at all. Tinnitus that hasn't gone away in 7 years. Visual snow hasn't gone away in 7 years. I've had my atlas adjusted many times. Do cold showers everyday (definitely helps). I went to see a prolotherapy doctor and didn't do it cause I didn't feel I trusted him. He just kept talking over me.
I definitely have a vagus nerve issue as well and I need this fixed!
I've tried many diets and ate clean...It's miserable at times, but im living with it. I really miss running and lifting weights and feel and smell like I use too. It's like my whole nervous system is SHOT! 😩

Dude, I found out that my symptoms were MOSTLY coming from my lower neck, despite my upper neck popping and generally feeling unstable.
A few things I tried helped me get back to like 80%. I still feel faint at times, but it's better than not being able to stand up at all without a collar.
      A) I was told by a family friend chiro that my pelvis was being pulled by a tight spot under my stomach. I started pulling up that area with my hands (imagine if you had a pot belly and you just pulled it up). This sort of corrected my pelvis problem and my neck started getting better. I find I started breathing a bit better after this.
      B) Tongue posture. We tend to keep our mouths open due to the neck and jaw problems. Make sure your mouth is closed and tongue rested on the roof of your mouth. This was and is extremely hard, but helped with stabilization and symptoms.
      C) I started taking small doses of Zoloft, a Beta Blocker and Magnesium and Vitamin C supplements. These seemed to have helped a bit
      D) Isometric and strengthening exercises to build up neck muscles.
      E) Working on trapezius muscle/any winged or weakened scapula.

I'm wondering what all helped your neck - the physical therapy, time in the collar, or primarily the DNRS-type work? I saw you mentioned posture in another reply and would love to know if you recommend any specific exercises? I'm seeing more and more people mention that these 'EDS' symptoms improve as they do healing work.
I recently went gluten-free and am eating a mostly Paleo diet. I have bone broth in the crockpot rn :) I noticed minor improvements around three weeks and am hoping to see circulation improvements soon so I'm not in compression stockings all summer!
I've been high-strung and panicky since I was a child, and I believe that caused my problems and then a few things over the years (a shoulder injury, an inner ear infection, trying an SNRI) gave me new/worsened symptoms.
I want you to know that your videos provide me a lot of hope, and I'm sure many others are also grateful for you.

    Rachel,
Wow, this video was so timely for me.
I've been having problems with dysautonomia for about 3 months and it all started after a neck injury. But I also was exposed to some black mold and I got really sick in Central America and can remember ripping ticks out of my skin about a year ago.... you know the drill, perfect storm...
Don't have EDS but I do have signs of cervical instability and I'm getting my first prolo on my neck in a few days.
The hardest part of this was me going back and forth between diligently doing my DNRS rounds and then binging Caring Medical videos. One day I'm convinced all my issues are from my neck and the next day I'm thinking "definitely just a limbic system injury." I'm still stuck in that fight or flight mode, but do wonder if I would have been better off just sticking with DNRS instead of trying to desperately get prolotherapy because it "MIGHT be the thing that finally cures me".
Either way, I still need to put in the work with DNRS and lifestyle and let my nervous system heal. I definitely can't do that if I am anxiously waiting for my next Dr.'s appointment saying, "this will finally be it I will be cured!" Prolotherapy takes months anyway.
Just thought I'd share. You're a huge inspiration to me. I'm a fellow work in progress. Glad to see how well you are doing. Keep climbing!

I was so hopeful for prolotherapy and spent so many thousands and it made me significantly worse which is so frustrating when I truly believe I can heal but am doing worse than I was since starting the nervous system regulation in terms of my pain tolerance. I've tried SGB blocks and psychedelic-assisted therapy as well but didn't see any changes. I meditate and do breathwork every day, do check-ins throughout the day to be present in my body. I’m really happy that you’ve found recovery! I am a bit confused, though, as to how positive thinking and diet could have contributed to healing cervical instability. It makes sense where inflammation is concerned and to lower your stress response which cause inflammation. But, how does it help with a structural issue? I know you’ve answered some similar questions, but I’m really curious. I was under the impression that an unstable spine, doesn’t correct itself without intervention. Meaning, spinal stability via rehabilitation, osteo or chiropractic manipulation etc. Any thoughts? Thank you 💕

    • @HealingWithRachael
      @HealingWithRachael  Рік тому +6

Thank you for your message! ❤️️ Nervous system regulation is so much more than "positive thinking", it helps guide the body into a state where it can heal itself (creating physiological changes). The body is very intelligent and incredible at healing itself, which is something modern medicine doesn't teach. When you're in a chronic "fight or flight" mode, healing can't take place.
It's easy to get hung up on something being a "structural issue" but its often something the body can repair on its own given the right conditions.
As for diet, often people find that their connective tissue is strengthened greatly when doing an animal-based approach (a diet rich in connective tissue and collagen). I've heard of several people having great improvements and even complete resolution of cervical instability through dietary changes. For me, I noticed significant changes in my connective tissue around 8-12 months into an animal-based diet and am still continuing to improve 1.5 years in.
Another thing I believe is often really important with cervical instability is correcting forward neck posture with cervical instability. An improper neck curve can cut off blood flow from the brain and compress the vagus nerve, which is a huge driver for nervous system dysregulation. It's all connected!
Those are just some of my thoughts on this, take it with a grain of salt! Wishing you all the best. 😊

  • @Fresh-qc3zn

I completely believe in nervous system regulation and the brain training but in regards to structural issues I get stuck on believing I can heal that via brain training/nervous system stuff.
For example with your CCI, can I ask what your clivo-axial angle was? Or is? Mine is very acute which we know can be putting pressure on or stretching the brainstem somewhat at that angle. I'd love to believe I could heal this somehow but it doesn't seem possible in my mind to literally shift my spine and stabilise my head via brain training.
    What's your take on this?

    • @HealingWithRachael
      @HealingWithRachael  9 місяців тому +2

Thanks for your comment! Personally I believe structural and postural issues do have a huge role in the nervous systems function. That being said, the body has an incredible ability to adapt given less than ideal structural situations. I’ve seen many people find very significant healing with brain retraining and CCI.
Personally, I believe there are many factors to what causes instability-standard american diet, forward neck posture, underdevelopment of the jaw / narrow palate, low tongue posture, etc. For me, eating an animal-based diet has massively improved the strength of my connective tissue over the last few years. Also, correcting my forward neck posture & neck curve has been very helpful (likely even more so than prolotherapy). Doing myofunctional functional therapy and strengthening my tongue tone and correcting tongue posture has made a difference too.
All that being said, my jaw is still very recessed and airway very very narrow (CCI surgery actually made this worse). Those are things that I think will continue to improve in time but there’s only so much change that can happen with the palate/jaw structure when you’re an adult. With all those “structural issues” being there, I’ve still been able to heal and gain my life back. Don’t underestimate the body’s incredible ability to heal and adapt, even in less than optimal circumstances. ❤️
It’s always, always worth giving your all to nervous system regulation and believing healing is possible. Believing healing is possible doesn’t happen over night, it’s a gradual process. Try starting with curiosity, saying “what if i could heal”? Then let that turn into “i think i’m going to heal”, “i believe i’m going to heal”, “i know i’m going to heal”, etc.
I’m truly hoping all the best for you!

I don’t know if they offer prolotherapy, but during my consultation with a chiropractor who specializes in upper cervical stability (gentle manipulation of the atlas, no cracking or popping), he told me prolotherapy isn’t always necessary. Perhaps France is a realistic option 🫤?

My guess is that when you saw your progress from the curve correction and the prolotherapy, that gave you hope and you began to see potential in what your body could do, spurring you on to believe in your healing even further. IMO, it takes something like that to spar that true belief in healing, especially if you have experienced years of being beaten down by symptoms that would tell you otherwise.

I actually had made a lot of progress through 6 months of carnivore/animal-based eating before starting curve correction and prolotherapy. I also had become interested in neuroplasticity and had read several books about it, so was really starting to believe that recovery was possible beforehand! Had I known what I know now about the nervous system, I’m not 100% whether I would have decided to go with prolotherapy before trying other things like brain retraining. But regardless, I’m still glad I did it and it did help me significantly!!

@@AngelaGWillis Structural aspects can definitely contribute to the nervous system dysregulation and vagus nerve damage. Forward neck posture can compress the vagus nerve and jugular vein (like you said). So it is important to address! What I'm suggesting is that I believe its possible to heal without having expensive prolotherapy treatments in *most cases*. But it certainly can really accelerate healing and be very helpful in the recovery process!

It is also okay and safe to express negativity, and I hope one day you can be truly transparent about how your journey has evolved instead of presenting it from one, narrowed perspective (I know DNRS requires it now) and that it feels safe in your body to do that eventually. I think you gaining weight from diet changes can help hyper-mobility and laxity a lot too. Lots of factors at play. All that being said, I do feel strongly about Big Food and Big Pharma. I recognize what you’re saying about how sharing/reading information related to that could potentially be dysregulating. If anyone feels that way about my content I hope they would unfollow me. I try my best to present information in a way that’s informative but also hopeful. Or funny/light-hearted.
As for sharing the negative aspects of my journey, I know I will get to a place when I’m ready to share more about that. For now it still can be triggering for me, so I’m avoiding it. But I know I won’t need to forever!
