The Making of Murmura

- Do you know how murumura (puffed rice) is made? I didn't till I visited Parsabhata haat (weekly market), near Balco Township, Korba.
Some oil is added to raw rice, and mixed well. The raw rice is then added to very hot sand in a kadhai and allowed to sputter. In less than half a minute the rice transforms to white flakes. A sieving and murmura is ready - crisp and delicious.
Those who have lived in Korba might be aware that the Parsabhata haat, which is between Balco Township and the plant area, assembles on Tuesdays and Fridays. Everything of daily use, from screwdrivers to vegetables, is available here.
When I visited the shanty market on December 27, 2011, I found farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, all of which I felt like buying! The items were probably cheaper than elsewhere. Sellers of the same produce indulged in banter as they persuaded potential customers to visit their shop.

These people are called bhadboojha. It's their family profession and hence their caste. 'Bhad' means the fire and 'boojha' means who lit/works with this fire. A lot of people these days in even India doesn't know this but this is what the real meaning of "bhad mein ja" slang is. Means you get cooked in that hot hot fire. Equivalent to "go to hell".
Tysm for thi info❤

wow very nice.
Very interesting video. I love to see the skills of hardworking people.
I wanted to mention a couple important things. First off, I highly advise AGAINST using sand that is found on the beach, its way to dirty and fine, instead use a clean gravel. But most of the times, unrefined salt is used so that the finished product is slightly salty. I HIGHLY suggest using Himalayan Pink Salt, you can purchase it in just about in every form imaginable, it has the ability to reach the heat needed to pop just about any grain. LOL You know now and trust me once you try it you will be hooked. I decided to have a HPS party, I took slabs (One for each guest or a larger slab for couples) of HPS that I heated in the oven, then I placed trays of shrimp, sliced beef and chicken and lots of vegetables around the table and away we went. IT WAS FAN-BLOODY-TASTIC!! People don't realize how salt was crucial to our survival AND if it wasn't for the iodine which was found in seafood (Ocean=Salt) our brains might never having evolved enough to have survived and therefor our very existence. Yikes too long again, do me a wee favor pleeeeeease, I would really like to know how many people really do read the comments, if you do, please click the little thumbs up. And remember every time you click the thumbs up, an angel gets their wings, or a Narcissus gets a thrill! I'm leaning towards the latter ~Giggles~
What about using sugar instead of salt?

In my country have a different way to make it. More higienis. Put a bowl of rices into hi pressured stainless tube. Then put a gas stove under tube. Make this tube rolling constantly until rice be puffed. No only rice , corn is same.
May Allah bless you with honor and respect, may Allah bless you with eternal happiness, may Allah bless this world and the hereafter🌹🌹🌹

OMG that's really fantastic.......
I mean his art.....
What about sugar?
TheAmazingJimmy.....I don't think you can use sugar. Reason being it would melt into treacle. Rather.... AFTER puffing, its better to spray on any type of coating. Sugar or even chocolate!! One of my friends is making this stuff and exporting to some countries.
@@apoorvazaveri5483 hello there. Is the kind of murmura we use for bhel? Seems like you have a lot of knowledge about this. Actually we start on planning a business of this so wanted to know if it could be a good one to start with. And could it be made manually nicely instead of investing in a machine.
Very good 👍👌

Shirish Koyal I find this process fascinating. I've watched several videos showing the process of puffing rice, and each is just a little different in technique. If I lived outside of city limits, I might be tempted to try this out (our city ordinances don't allow for unregulated "burning"...we are essentially limited to charcoal style grills). Hmmm, just had a thought though, I bet this could be duplicated using a large "charcoal grill", although the charcoal wouldn't have to be used as the burn source (could use wood, sticks, dried manure, etc...if desired). Could attach a large metal bowl to the top "lip" of the grill, place sand inside, heat up to kill any "undesirables", then put in pre-cooked, dried and slightly oiled rice...voila! puffed rice. Now I must find a way to do this!!! Thank you so much for sharing Shirish. :)
you could build an outdoor clay oven from cob. It should be legal, especially if they don't know what the heck you are doing . (Everything is made from mud and straw so you just tell them you are gardening.)
Tiffany Boone Hahaha, that might work. ;)

Thank you Sir for showing the process for making of murmure. Can you tell me what is that grain and the liquid which is added thereto? Aur tava me kya hai black could ka?
I have written in the descrption that the grain is raw rice, the liquid is oil, and the black particles are sand.
@@shirishkoyal Thanks Shirish ji. Kindly clarify where the description is shown.
