    CORRECTION: This monitor can output 10 bit color at 144hz. I'm still unsure if this is a native 10 bit panel or if it's 8bit + FRC. There is still not much data on this.

    • @drummin7jeff
      @drummin7jeff 3 роки тому +6

      I was actually just about to comment about that. I just learned about this yesterday. I know in the radeon driver software, another monitor I had with stuff turned on would show 8+frc, and it's showing 10 bit. (I think it was in there...might have been in the windows settings...one of them actually showed the frc when I was using it,). This monitor, everything seems to show 10 bit. Either way...it's pretty...

      This review basically says that 10-bit is supported at 60hz over HDMI and 144hz over DisplayPort: www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/tuf-gaming-vg34vql1b

      A couple of things:
      1.-Desktop-> Right Click -> Display Settings -> Turn HDR on/of ->Advanced Display Settings -> EDIT: It can be 10 bit if below 144Hz. The question is, can 10 bit monitors render at 8?
      2.-EDIT: Has anyone else noticed blocky pixelation in Desktop mode? I thin that with 0.28 I might be able to see the pixels. It makes no sense, a 35 inch with slightly smaller screensize wasn't noticeable. No ONE is mentioning this in the their reviews. So it deserves its own comment.
      3.-The Ghosting is related to the Variable OD feature under Gaming. Here all the links you'll ever need about Ghosting:
      ua-cam.com/video/i297xSB9B6o/v-deo.html -> How to "fix" it
      www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/j4eirr/really_bad_ghosting_on_asus_tuf_gaming_vg32vq1b/
      www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/lmbx4d/just_got_my_new_asus_tuf_gaming_vg34vql1b_and_i/gok49et/ -> This one has the best example video.
      www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/j4eirr/really_bad_ghosting_on_asus_tuf_gaming_vg32vq1b/
      And the definite answer is here, which I just ACTUALLY paid attention to, search for the word: ghosting:
      www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/tuf-gaming-vg34vql1b
      Up to this point I've been hearing back and forth whether it is due to a defective monitor or just the nature of the panel. People saying that when they RMA it Asus Support acknowledges it on one hand, and then every review I've seen saying the same. So I'm leaning towards just turning the OD feature off as I'm not interested versus returning it or RMA it.
      I can tell one thing, it looks better than the LG ultrawide at the same resolution but you can see why there's a 100 $ difference and where did Asus cut corners to bring the price down. Everything from the design. the bezel, the ergonomics...it's just cheaper....but the panel isn't...except for the ghosting.
      The LG is 5ms though.

    • @drummin7jeff
      @drummin7jeff 3 роки тому +2

      @@einarabelc5 it's not always 8 bit. If you go to 144 it can be 10 bit in either hdr or not. I find most implementations of taa cause worse ghosting than the monitor. I've seen a lot of reviews that say LOOK AT THIS GHOSTING and it's just a game with bad taa. That being said, the rtings article is accurate, but ghosting isn't really bad with this monitor. I have to specifically look for it to notice it.

      @@drummin7jeff I literally just came back to correct my post. You're right. Thanks!
      In Shadow of the Tomb Raider there are lots of Shadows that are supposed to be hues of black or grey but when the came moves they become triangles of green and red, pretty noticeable but I believe it's less noticeable at 60 Hz for some reason. So yes, that rtings article posts some tables that allowed me to find a balance. I'm still not 100% if it's the panel or a manufacturing defect.

      yeah he deserves more subs! I bought this monitor casue of his review. I had an LG ips ultrawide but I barely bumped the thing and it is all screwed up now...LG wants $400 plus shipping + tax to repair it...their panel is way too sensitive and I figured I'd buy this instead of repairing that for close to the same price.

    It's the bits 500 usd or below va 21:9 monitor for it's ghosting and smearing levels. Contrast color and brightness are very good. At 120hz it shows as 12bit 144hz 10bit 165hz 8bit. Also keep adaptive sync off or it will flicker. Freesync is still on though and works fine no flickering. I will be keeping this one after trying out 7 different monitors.

    Excellent review. I wish more ultrawide monitors were flat and not curved because I am sensitive to the angle. I went to MicroCenter and watched an Overwatch video, and I am not convinced I can get over it. But if I had to pick, it would be this monitor because the IPS offerings are 100Hz. And if it is over 100Hz, it costs an arm and a leg. Thank you!

      @@TypeCTechReviews  @Type-C Tech Reviews
      No I'm not talking about 8Bit + FRC. 10bit can be enabled at 144Hz and lower refresh rates but not at 165Hz, probably because it requires too much bandwidth for DP 1.4.
      At 165Hz with HDR enabled, the monitor indeed works in 8bit + FRC mode. That is what Windows Display settings report. But once in the Nvidia control panel, you set 144Hz 10bit and both Windows settings and VESA DisplayHDR TEST (can be found on the windows store) will show it is 10bit.
      Check my screenshots : imgur.com/a/3OPstjn
      Even the monitor's own menu shows the same !
      So it really is capable of 10bit output but the weirdest part is ASUS does not even mention it.

    You should have tested older games on this monitor as the black and green ghosting is very noticable in older titles like Half Life and is a deal breaker.

    Did you try to remove this strange ghosting by playing with overdrive settings? Or lowering speed of screen to 120 or 144hz? And whats the story about Gsync compability? It doasnt show in Nvidia panel at all? Ive heard you need to turn off Freesync in screen menu otherwise gsync wont show up on nvidia cards....

      @@itsjustdroid Dp cable is a sure thing. But i saw somewhere that thing about freesync off, may be bullshit, i have AG271QG so i dont have a way to check this. Also - some people saying G-Sync is not working on some FReesync (Gsync compatible screens) from some reason with NVIDIA cards... This is one and only thing thats bugging me. Saw few reviews of AOC, Xiaomi and GB 34 UW screens and some people got it working on NVIDIA some dont. All of those are Freesync screens but apparently they are Gsync compatible (Not officially) Wanna get to bottom of this if you know what I mean...

    • @noblenoob4life

      I think so, I was torn between the two and decided to go with Asus for the better specs, namely a significantly higher contrast ratio and brighter screen. It also helps that I prefer the look of the Asus over the Gigabyte. An extra hundred for a monitor I'll be using daily for the next 7-10 years is a pretty sound investment to me.

    Red/green ghosting is overshoot (inverse ghosting) due to asus being literally the worst manufacturer at doing any remotely decent overdrive settings.
