The composition looks great, Tom. I’m diggin it. Recently acquired this same variety, and it’s been real slow to start pushing growth. Good to see someone else working this variety and learning from your experience as well.
Hi Yeti! It is for sure a slow grower!! Once it gets cooking it does do much better and really puts on growth. I've seem to have found that the more unusual the port the slower it seems to grow. But, it's reasonable to work with. Best of luck with yours and thanks for the comment.
What a great way, to start the day, Coffee and Bonsai with Tom!!! Excellent pot and composition...The pot really is amazing, gotta love krakle glaze...Like the way the coloration of the Spekboom variety compliments the pots selection...Mable seems to be doing well, thank goodness...Thanks for sharing...
Thanks Nathan! Mable is back to her old self for sure - nothing keeps her down for long! My thumb, while still numb, has also healed now. So - no bonsai affecting damage! 🤣 Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don’t get too many dropped leaves when I take them from outdoor to under my lights indoors at least for the ones that I keep warm (68-78). The ones in the chiller cold area do drop leaves whole they adjust. Best of luck with them and thanks for commenting! 🙏❤️🌲
Thanks Steve! I am in Seattle. It's an unusual variety - very colorful, you really have to see it in person to fully appreciate how bright the pink branches are. I am so inspired by your Central Park forest. I walk to my favorite park almost everyday - I may use it as inspiration for a forest. The park runs along Lake Washington and is just gorgeous. Lots of trees. Thanks for watching and commenting and WELCOME to the channel. It's always great to have another UA-cam Creator subscriber! Enjoy your weekend!
you're luck you havent had a problem with bugs. It seems the portulacaria afra i'm trying to grow are darwinistically advancing the wellbeing of every fungus gnat within a country mile of my area code.
OH, I have had some problems. In fact, I am battling a mealy bug / scale issue at the moment. Usually I get rid of them very quickly, but not this time. I am getting close to nuking the plant giving me problems and cutting it back to near nothing so that I can fully eradicate them. Best of luck with your bug issue and thanks for watching!
@CoffeeandBonsaiwithTom mealy bugs are a huge problem for me too. They seem totally unbothered by neem oil, but alcohol on a swab has worked. Last week I just filled a spray bottle with iso alcohol and gave my whole flat of dwarf jade bonsai starters a mist. Seems to have worked super well, hopefully they don't all get drunk and lose their desire to keep growing.
I use alcohol all the time and it is very effective. You can also use soap and water. I know many people that use bionide granules if you want to go nuclear ☢️ in them. It is very effective, but also poisonous ☠️ and I am uncertain how safe it is for people. But it does work. Best of luck.

Very beautiful plant.
Thanks a lot! So nice of you.
Mine seem to just sort of sit there for a few months after potting and then take off with crazy growth..
Exactly! It is the least vigorous of all of my ports I think. I prune it much much less often than my others. Thanks for watching and commenting Dave!
Like someone crossed a Portulacaria Afra and a rhubarb, both of which I like and now I’m hungry 😋😂
It’s definitely a very beautiful plant though, you don’t see them on UA-cam very often that’s for sure
I never thought about it, but you are right!! 🤣
That’s true, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one other than on Etsy - I’ll have to look for some.
most of my ports are in the drop leaf mode here in New Hampshire

Great little tree. Amazing colors. Where in these many states are you located?
