Thank you so much for this video. I think etiquette when dressing is so important. I'm about to buy a hat and I didn't know which one to buy but this has really helped me to make up my mind. Have a lovely day!
Great job and very educational. Now, I know how and when to wear a hat, time, with/with out gowns, how to take the hat off. I will be passing your information on to my friends. I also will like to add when wearing a fur coat or jacket the person should wear a fur hat to match the coat; it balance the person coat.
Hello. Not sure if you will see this but... What kind of hat would you wear with a full a-line ivory satin wedding dress with the front high from shoulder to shoulder and a big V on the back? Not sure what time of the day for the wedding though. Thanks so much.
Hello, thank you for the video. I'd like to ask you two questions. 1) Are headbbands worn on the left or on the right side? You say in the ideo that women's decorations should be to the right but you wear the headband on the left side. 2) Should a woman has her hair up even when wearing a winter hat? Thank you. Have a nice day.
On the first question: When a fascinator is position on a headband, the designer wants you to wear the fascinator in a certain position for best results (usual to the right). If the fascinator is fasten with a elastic band or comb you are free to position the fascinator were ever you want, for more freedom. Second Question: Years ago they always wore the hair up, but today with young Royals wearing their hair down, all bets are off. Today hair up or down is up to you or your hairdresser. Marilyn
Make sure your veil is not any longer then the end of your nose. If your veil is longer you will have to lift it up, and position it over the top of the hat. My suggestion is never wear a veil longer than your nose. Marilyn
Joy, I woulld start with your hair dresser, and if They can't help, I would check out other hair dresser. Also what part of the country do you live in can give you guideness. You can always email me, or call the shop marilyn@marilynhellman.com
If hats or not really supposed to be born with downs then what do you wear and west? Because traditionally ladies want wearing pants they’re always wearing a gallon or some type of a skirt outfit
Zara, I think you are asking me about hats with a gown. In this case the gown is more elegant without a hat. I also think they did not wear hats with gowns because they wore gowns to balls were they danced, and a hat would not be practical.
Irene, good question, I went to England to confirm my advice. Dress code etiquette states that women wear hats for formal events, says Diana Mather, a senior tutor for The English Manner etiquette consultancy. "Up until the 1950s ladies were very seldom seen without a hat as it was not considered 'the thing' for ladies to show their hair in public. "But all that has changed and hats are now reserved for more formal occasions." I HOPE THAT HELPS, MY ADVICE IS THE EVENT ETIQUETTE RULES, Marilyn
marilynhellman Interesting. I cover my hair and I am considering wearing hats more often. But for example, I would use a fedora for the day. I guess this rule only applies to other kinds of hats? Also, what kind of summer hats can be worn indoors? I would appreciate your input. Thank you!!
@@notyourtypicalmidwife9545 First let's remember what etiquette, says about being well dressed. "Dress for the Weather first" The main reason you wear a hat outside is to protect yourself from the sun. Let's take the sun first, you need at least a 10cm (4.50 inches) brim on a hat to protect your face from the sun. Straw is a good chose, if the weather is warm, if colder, a warmer hat made of felt is good for the cold. You can always use other warm fabrics or fur, but remember you still need to protect your face from the sun in winter, so it is always good to remember to shade your face with at least 10 cm (4.5") brim. Inside: The reason a woman takes off her hat inside is because you will be a hazard to other people or can not see what you are doing. Otherwise a women does not have to take her hat off when enter a building, like men do.Hopes this helps
Thank you so much for your reply! This is very helpful. In my case, I cover my hair for religious reasons, so I wouldn’t take my hat inside and I was concerned if some types of hats were not appropriate for indoors. Now this gives me more confidence to wear hats!

Hello, I was wondering how to eat properly when you are wearing a veil?
