Recently there's been a lot of media coverage of the new Travel Advisories for the Bahamas and Jamaica issued by The US Department of State and I made a separate video to respond to this situation, if you haven't watched it, please check it out. (The link will be posted here soon).
With this episode, however, I'd like to take a closer look at the Travel Advisories in general. I mean the entire system. I've looked at all US Travel Advisories ever produced for every single country and what I've discovered is quite concerning.

I think the attention should be placed on the source where America is getting their information from. Who stands to gain if Jamaica fail in getting their revenue from tourism? This is bigger than just America and what they put out, put who is intentionally feeding misinformation to them and the media?

Jamaica and the whole world should issue warnings to their citizens to stay away from Washington DC and many other US cities, due to the high crime rates. Carjackings, muggings, retail robberies, etc. are rampant, as are gunshot deaths and injuries. Tourists in Jamaica should not venture into high crime areas of Jamaica. That is just common sense.😅

Excellent, excellent video. I was in Jamaica when a particular incident happened with someone having a mental breakdown. As an expat, I often fight misconceptions from some of my friends and theirs regarding these types of advisories.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard America telling it's citizens do not go to Jamaica, was the empty hotels that I see on television in the late seventies or early eighties due to political issues in Jamaica at the time!
My husband and I believe this was done because spring break is coming up and they want people to spend their spring break in the US. Both Jamaica and the Bahamas are popular spring break destinations and earn millions of dollars during this time what better way of keeping the dollars in the US by scaring people away from the countries they typically visit. it will be interesting to see if shortly after spring break they adjust the advisory.
As a retired teacher in my first semester of retirement and first months being an Airbnb host in Kingston, I think that you do such informative videos because you are a teacher yourself. Has anyone told you this?

When the English ran Jamaica it had one of the lowest murder rates in the world and was considered one of the safest countries in the world.

Now I feel sorry for the hypothetical lady that had a mental breakdown. If she had that mental breakdown in the USA she wld have either ended up dead or in jail because TSA and the police wldnt handle it as calm as this Caribbean country.
According to Wikipedia. Jamaica had the highest murder rate in the world in 2022.
How is the local/Jamaican media treating this? Are there news stories and interviews presebting the facts? Are they calling out the US Embassy in Kingston for their role in providing - even pushing- disinformation?
I think they've politicized it. It's really sad too. Some countries that are deemed to have "high crime" have less crime than the US. You might actually be safer going overseas than staying in your own neighborhood. I do think we need a travel advisory system, it's just that they need to take away some of the political biases in the system.

The travel advisory is not really about the crime tho , it’s more about the lack of medical care if something should happen to a tourist.

Interestingly as soon as I read the advisory I had a gutteral reaction aligning perfectly with your conclusions. Now I know I'm not crazy for thinking their language was sooo so irresponsible, and seemed more politically motivated.

When I was running an Airbnb in Jamaica, we had tourists who needed to go to hospital and the received superb treatment. They went to Hospiten in Montego Bay. It was expensive, but their travel insurance covered it.

My question is Why isn’t the media slamming Dominican Republic? They have the same travel advisory level as Bahamas. Is it because Dominican Republic is 100% US and US investments and Jamaica and Bahamas has significant Chinese and Russian investments. I don’t know but I am asking the question. Anyone has the answer to why Dominican Republic isn’t blasted in the US media, please respond.
Because the "slamming" is coming from the source, that seems to originate in the US Embassy in Kingston. They don't care about the Dominican Republic. They don't care about the Bahamas either, but it looks like they decided to use them as a smokescreen. However, all of this is just speculation and my personal opinion, it's best to rely on just confirmed facts instead.

I've seen a few videos of Jamaicans who were forced to leave the country they love because it became too unsafe because of the violent people.
That supports what she is saying … the crime is an issue among locals. Tourists are very unlikely to be victims of serious crime. She has another video on this topic that is well worth watching.

no, I don't have a travel agency. I am a journalist and make documentaries. I used to run an Airbnb in Montego Bay, but I stopped 1 year ago and moved to Kingston so I can focus on video production.

For TOURISTS....ABSOLUTELY....you don't get 4-Million Visitors in one year to your "tiny" Country if it isn't. I don't understand how people can watch something (assuming you did) and NOT see the DISTINCTION that was being made between "Visitors" and "Locals", or the POINT of what they were watching (which is about INACCURATE TRAVEL ADVISORY to Jamaica). Jamaica is rather safe, it only gets less safe if you are a gang member or having serious interpersonal issues with you near and dear. Other than that it's pretty safe for law abiding citizens.
I am local and I feel very safe in here Jamaica. I live in Runaway Bay, St. Ann and I go for a morning walks at 0530 most days. You all need to stop the rural parts are much safer than most places in the US. And no I don't live in a gated community.
I am sure Jamaica doesn't have issues with mass shootings, mass school shootings, and kindergarten kids having to do active shooter drills weekly here.

It's clear there are people in the United States, who don't like the competition and are trying to derail Jamaica's tourist industry! There are more serious crimes committed in the United States in just one month, than crimes committed in Jamaica and other Caribbean countries in an entire year.
This is just one of many treacherous acts, committed against Jamaica by the United States! Just recently, the United States decided to send a Homosexual Ambassador and his partner to be ambassador to Jamaica! In my view, this was a clear insult to the Jamaican people!
