  • This video from Sears PartsDirect shows how to replace the rack height adjuster in the upper rack of your dishwasher. The rack adjuster allows you to move your top dish rack up or down to make more room for large items. If a wheel bracket breaks on your adjuster, the dish rack might sag to one side and you make have trouble pulling the rack in and out. This video will show you how to install a new height adjuster kit on your dish rack.

The height adjuster allows you to move the dishrack up or down to make more space. If a wheel bracket breaks, the dishrack will sag to one side. If your height adjuster is broken, you can replace it using the steps in this video. Before you begin. Wear work gloves to protect your hands. Release the track stops from the upper dishrack rails. Pull the upper rack from the dishwasher and place it upside down on a work surface. Raise the wheels to the maximum height. Release the top of the long rear clip from the dishrack tine. Push the clip down to the release point and remove it. Press the tab down on the front clip, move the clip up to pull it off. Release the locking tabs on the clip in the middle of the height adjuster and remove the clip. Using a slot screwdriver, pry the housing cover down and out to release the upper tabs on each side. Pry the bottom of the housing cover out of the 2 lower locking tabs. Pull the housing cover off the rack. Remove the adjuster housing and wheel assembly. Repeat this procedure on the other side. Slide the vertical portion of the new wheel assembly between the 4th set of vertical tines (from the back of the dishrack) and rotate the wheel assembly so that it lays flat against the side. Insert a positioner clip above the rear wheel and snap tab into the slot. Install a positioner clip on the front wheel. Position the adjuster body over the vertical portion of the wheel assembly and push it into the slots. Locking tabs at the bottom of the adjuster body engage the wheel assembly once it's fully inserted in the tabs. Insert the actuator lever into the adjuster body with the thumb pad facing the front of the rack. Two half-circle cutouts on the adjuster body hold the actuator in place. Push the adjuster body down and install the adjuster cover. Install the adjuster cover mounting screws. Repeat this process on the other side of the rack. Push the upper dishrack onto its tracks. Close the track stops on the dishwasher rails.

Excellent video.! The replacement kit I ordered came with NO instructions! Very happy I found this video. I was able to watch it and replace my two rack adjusters in less than ten minutes. Too bad the manufacturer made such crappy plastic adjusters that they didn't even last two years. I guess they're like inkjet printer manufacturers who make their money off of ink sales. These guys make their money off of selling replacement parts for the junk they install. Oh, and why did 35 viewers give this video a thumbs down?!?!?!?

I followed the video and my rack would not stay in the upper position. I watched a couple other videos and found that the two positioner clips were installed backwards (the wrong side was facing out) starting at 1:24. I also swapped the thumb pads so they faced towards the front of the rack. After making these changes, the new assemblies worked correctly.

We bought our dishwasher in 2013. Within 2 years of purchase I had to replace the upper rack height adjusters. The plastic replacement parts lasted longer this time but I just had to buy another set. The newer replacement parts are metal and hopefully will last longer.
This video is very helpful to someone, like me, who is not very mechanically inclined.

This video was perfect! I pull up UA-cam 'How to" instructions for just about everything I need help on & this hands down is the best I've seen on any topic. Just as Josh Cline noted, the presentation is very professional, easy to follow & in 10 minutes your done! Thankfully, the audio is clear and the images are clean & easy to see.

My replacement parts sat in the box for three months before I had the courage to attempt the replacement. The parts came with no instructions, and I could not have accomplished the task without this excellent video. I watched it several times over, and then again, step by step, while doing the work.

So simple. I ordered the kit, pulled off the old while waiting for the kit to arrive. From open box to reinserting the rack was less than 10 minutes. Simple, straightforward -- the video made all the difference in the world. Great job! Now we have use of the upper rack again. Should have done this a long time ago. Well done Sears PartsDirect!

Thank you for this video! I had the parts for more than a year and dreaded replacing the old parts and lived with jerry-rigged parts. Finally I was forced to replace it and this video made that SO easy. I should have done it a long time ago. The video was great!!

NOTE! The video doesn't mention turning the rack RIGHT SIDE UP before installing the new assembly. You need to do that if you don't want to install upside down like I did.

The adjuster actuator is installed backwards in this video. The thumb pads should face the front of the machine, not the back. The included instruction sheet and narrator confirm this.

No issues with the parts or installation. Infact the quality is better then the original parts. The only thing I'll say is that the mounting screws required a star shaped screw driver for the heads.

No instructions came with the new height adjusters for my Kenmore 665 dishwasher. After carefully removing the old height adjusters (wanted to save them in case the new adjusters didn't fit) it wasn't too difficult to attach the height adjusters to the upper rack. Total job took me about 40 minutes, just because I had never replaced one of these before and didn't want to break any of the plastic clips.

Very helpful. Do as it says not as it shows... Thumb pads to the front on the rack (video shows to the back). I guess technically it could work either way.

True....I did install them as shown in the video, towards the back., not as the voice stated, toward the front. It works fine.

Great video, but you will need a star bit screwdriver bit for the case screws. They send this weird thing that is a star bit on one end with Phillips slots on the other… but a star bit screwdriver is better.

**Be aware that the screws are STAR HEAD screws but there is a screw 'adaptor' that adapts a phillips head screwdriver to the star shape.
