    24:05 Laying on his back, on the floor, under the car, in the rain, manhandling a gearbox back into place with both arms whilst using his right leg to operate the trolley jack and lift the engine slightly. That there is a real pro! 👏👏

      You don't have to, just put the bolts in freezing bags, label them and keep them on the item they belong to.

    Most of the work on my car i do myself. lower control arms. inner and outer track rods. antirolls bars etc. but few things like clutches i haven't tried and the mechanics i have had out in the past haven't always been able to do the job. You really know your stuff and the speed and precision you work at is unreal. Keep up the good work. :)

    Thank you for putting such a good quality video on here. I've done a few DIY clutches over the years and was put off doing our Astra because the "book" says drop the suspension which is a pain. You have shown how it can be professionally done just moving the 'box aside. This is a quality job, and I can see from the comments that there other diy-ers giving lots of respect. You certainly know how to deliver. All the best.

    Hi great video and very informative. I can't believe that you managed to lift and realign that gearbox on your back under the car. I 've just replaced the clutch and crankshaft rear oil seal on my 1993 Rover 214. I needed an engine crane and a jack to realign the gearbox - it must have weighed about 80kg!

      Tried a little heat and have left penetrating fluid to penetrate overnight. Ive put it all together again and may look at it again tomorrow.

      I always replace the DMF regardless.
      Solid is never a problem. The friction material won’t damage the solid flywheel.

      JNK pfk my electrical knowledge is a bit limited ... they only to find out is use a multimeter and try voltage drop test ...
      Hope that helps.

    Hi Kevin, is it possible to do it in the same manner (without lowering the subframe) in Astra equipped with 1.6 petrol engine Z16XEP?
    Thank You in advance.

    Hello Kevin I was just curious to know what name/ brand of that universal joint socket is that you use on your impact gun. It looks very good quality. Would love to see like tool box tour type of video. I myself am weekend warrior amateur who like to work on his own car. Loving your videos.👍

      @WMCS thanks bud couldnt have done it without your video saved loads time not dropping the whole subframe.. I managed to get it off.. but the original problem I had still persists.. clucth was slipping and was struggling to get gears, not grinding just like they were blocked. Only the reverse gear grinds can start it up in reverse and works fine just selecting the gears is a struggle.. Ive reset the gear linkage and stick all the alginment is okay wondering if its a worn linkage or broken box, it went from working completely fine to not been able to get first second or reverse without a struggle. did have a noticeable burning smell from the gearbox the day before.. and no oil came out when driveshafts removed. Could it just be low oil/fluid?

      come to think of it there was a bit oil around the bell housing but looked as so it came from the oil filter from a previous oil change. Might have a leak somewhere but theres no oil left to leak out, will fill it tomorrow n see if it changes anything and see if theres a leak.

    kevin, reckon a 1.6 engine for this could be done without removing the subframe ?

    • @islandarchie
      @islandarchie 3 роки тому

      If you're just doing a clutch then yes, if you want to drop the gearbox out altogether no, you'd need to drop the subframe down to allow enough room to slip the box through (don't need to remove the subframe completely).

      On the petrol usually yes. Unless it’s the bigger cc engines.
