    I know this was 6 years ago but I noticed several issues im this video which Astra H owners need to be aware of. While it is definitely appreciated going through each stage, not using a proper timing kit is asking for trouble.
    Timing is not as easy as just lining up the marks on the crankshaft and actuators.
    The cams need to be locked from the opposite end at TDC as does the crankshaft from the flywheel to ensure nothing moves.
    Once these are locked then the adjustments can be made. VVT timing is fiddly because the two actuators are constantly self-adjusting, and if they're not set correctly, problems with subtle movement can arise when tension is put back into the belt.
    An example of that is how during the reassembly of the cam belt the crankshaft linkage had moved a few degrees clockwise which wasn't corrected, so after two rotations back to TDC those cams will no longer be in time.
    Always lock everything in place folks especially when reassembling everything then remove locking tools, check, rotate 2x, check timing again, rotate 2x, check again. Even if it is 1mm out, do over until it is perfect!!

    Man this was a great video I stopped at Short I can't believe how fast you did that for real cuz I'm pretty good old wrench for myself and I know what's entailed in that you know I never thought about it as it doesn't matter if you use the Locking tools or not as long as everything is TDC when you take it loose that's freaking awesome dude

    The only other thing that I noticed that I would do different is that red Loctite does not ever want to come off and you can break bolts I love my blue Loctite cuz I can put everything together with it and I can still change it later but again what a fantastic video man

    Is the cambelt for the 2006 more internally?
    I can see a belt that rung with the ac compressor but I believe there should be the cambelt buried further inside the engine.
    Is that right?

    At 4:50 in the video, why did you use an allen key and retract the belt tensioner before you tighten the bolt? That method is not needed for that type of tensioner? Does it serve any purpose? You can skip that part and just tighten the bolt without retracting the tensioner.

    Replacing cam belt is easy, doing it properly is not and can cause very expensive engine failure. This especially applies to the twin cam and VVT engines. For these you must use locking tools, yet not shown on the vid !!?? Also why have distracting and non-contributory music ?.

  • @clairemarie8862
    @clairemarie8862 7 років тому +3

    Very nice vid but you forgot the locking tools makes it much easier , also not using can give wrong tension on belt or put timing out even a fraction is enough to cause a issue

      I did one of these belts on the same motor fitted into a mokka. I removed the cam cover and put a bar across the back of the cams as well as lined up the marks on the vvti pulleys and the tdc mark on the crank. I built it all back up rotated the engine twice all seemed well, I rebuilt the car fully took it out on the road and it seemed a little flat at high rpm but otherwise ran great, I cycled the key once or twice and the mil lamp was on. The fault code was crankshaft to inlet cam alignment. It turns out you cannot do the belts on these 100% successfully without the proper locking tools and it was only £23 delivered off amazon. The camshafts can move independently of the cam sprockets and unless the whole lot is locked up it is nothing but luck if you get away with it. For the price of the tool do the job properly.

    Okay did the timing belt on my daughter's Astra and re-installed almost eveything, but after I installed the new v-rip (auxill)drive belt TENSIONER, its pulley wheel was touching the water pump pulley wheel while the belt is off. Is this normal? or did I install the TENSIONER incorrectly somehow? Or will the belt pull the TENSIONER back off the water pump pulley when the belt is installed? It looks like they touch in your video.

    Ok...but...your missing very important details like all the blocking tools for cams and cams pollies. For this you need to remove the cam cover and therefore replace all head gasket as well as replacing all with new tensioners and a new water pump. You made only 1/20 of the job.
    At minute 3:28 when you remove the timing belt the intake can pullie makes 1/8 of a turn.
    I wonder I the engine broke after a few turns.
    Good image quality but bad job execution your missing a lot of details.

    • @gertgerttreg6063
      @gertgerttreg6063 8 місяців тому +1

      Hmm, he did check the markings on the pulleys after installing the belt, and the water pump is on the other belt. So maybe it wasn't that bad... And there is only one blocking tool and that goes in the front, so removing the cam cover is not necessary.

  • @marinobottali4170
    @marinobottali4170 5 років тому

    Did I miss something or did you forget to change the waterpump, you must replace the waterpump with a new timing belt because of the tension of the belt, if it knocks the pump out the whole lot will have to come off again and you'll have a bigger job replacing the pump aswell!

    Timing is not correct. Look at 2:58, Exhaust is a tooth and half below intake and this is correct. At 5:23, the marks are almost lined up and this is incorrect. Unless it is the angle of the camera in which case say so in the video. I'd use a cam tool or at lease make a mark on the cam gear and a matching mark on the back timing case.
