- In most countries, you are free to use any operating system. In some though... THERE IS ONLY ONE CHOICE! Say hello to Red Star OS, the operating system that almost all north koreans HAVE TO USE!
Users of this operating system are very restricted and the north korean govenment can even confiscate "illegal files" from your computer remotely. Wanna disable the security? Well watch out... This operating system self destructs if you disable it's safety measures!

Try having her disable RedStar OS's security system and literally switching the language to English.
i'm pretty sure the redstar os is modified so it doesn't work
it works. also, the stuff with admin perms is bullshit, a simple terminal command gives (a way to get) root access.
Even if they did set it up like that, it would be similar to Android in a sense. Anything can be hacked or exploited, you just have to find the right way.

You can actually just open the ISO and in the syslinux config just change the language to en_us. Its not too hard. Its just Linux

It's because North korea has different words for things than South Korea. North Korea Removed all words that aren't Korean in origin.
The Google translator is based on South Korean, which is a little different from North Korean.

The reason some words appear weird like electronic hydroxyl is probably because of the vocabulary difference between North and South Korea. North Korea prefer words that are either from Chinese, Russian or pure Korean origin so some of the words may be made up just for North Korea. Google translate doesn't distinguish them two (yet they do for Chinese so lul) so translations are expected to be off, even for simple words.

This would most certainly be a bad idea to use unless it is in a network isolated VM as who knows what spyware is on it.
There is none, but there are updates.
Ok but how could the spyware be sent over to North Korea if they don't have access to the internet and OSFirstTimer doesn't have access to their intranet. I doubt the North Korean government would need to be able to access their spyware through the normal internet as no citizen in North Korea would have access to it in the first place.

Red Star OS actually can be switched to English by manually renaiming the language folders, so you didn't have to use it in Korean.

This is true because North Korea copies all operating systems and they have the English language on it because they copied other operating systems. OSFirstTimer knows this but they challenged Diana to use it with the native language.

There is a way. It's easier for us because we have access to other Linux distros that we can live boot and modify files from. In North Korea they don't have that so actually hacking it would be incredibly more difficult.

My windows 10 died for the second time for me, yet my other computers running xp, vista, 98, linux, 7 work just fine. I strongly dislike windows 10. At least windows has a sense of humor, "we care about your privacy" and "it won't take long" what a joke. I'm on my trusty windows xp, on a pentium 4 with 1gb ram from 2002, yet windows 10 doesn't work on my laptop from 2016.
Microsoft is constantly updating W10, too, so there was a release in 2015, and then another in Q4 2015, then another in 2016, another in 2017, and another is coming in Q4 of 2017. They clame they will do this every March and every September.

There actually is rpm in Red Star OS, and it works fine. There are also packages including gcc on the installation CD, so if you have the source, you can compile and install any application you want.

If you need any help setting up or working out how to use an operating system with a screen reader, let me know. I have a lot of experience in this field as I am blind myself and have used Windows, Mac OS and linux all with a screen reader.
I know which O/S and program they will be using. However, I won't be spoiling it here in the comments for all to see.

Did you know he's not the only one who can help you? I can as well, because believe it or not, I am actually blind. Well, not blind, but rather, have a visual impairment. I've used Screen readers with Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS, so I can even help with mobile.
Also, instead of changing the desktop background (obviously because you're blind and can't see) I would just replace the task with customizing the voice settings.

The Arabic numerals are used in China and Japan as well. They're preferred in a lot of cases since the traditional number system isn't as convenient. Think of it as the difference between using the Arabic numerals and spelling out the numbers in English.
English: 2 two | 3419 three thousand four hundred nineteen
Chinese/Japanese: 2 二 | 3419 三千四百十九

tbh im from italia and origially our national numbers were romans, we learn commonly arabic numbers and italian standard numbers are arabic but most of our 1900's roads still use romans numbers and for example Mussulini used roman numbers.
so not neither in italia is so obvious having arabic numbers as main numbers...in whole european latin based countries in burocracy and street numbers is still more common roman numbers instead arabic numbers.
only the most recent houses use arabic numbers.

With the number thing, in hebrew although the numeric number system we use is commonly used in math classes and things like that, on things like clocks they have there own number system (which is just the hebrew alphabet)
ancient, oh dear we still speak it unlike ancient english, we used roman numbers...many people don't know about this! 🙂

I have known a number of North Koreans over a significant period and discussed their country's situation with them in detail.
I am not a socialist, and before I learned about the DPRK I had a viscerally negative reaction to it.
I came to discover many things about the DPRK and its people.
Above all, they just want to be left alone to pursue happiness in their own way. Their national philosophy, the "Juche-ideal", is one of self-reliance. They are almost all true believers with an undying faith in their mission. They do not want to be "liberated".
They are a polite, thoughtful, generous and sincere and courageous people. They know more about how we in the West live than most of us realise, and they couple this with a canny understanding of human behaviour.
If you want some insight into North Koreans, I suggest the documentaries A State of Mind and The Game of Their Lives.
It's unfortunate that this comment on an OSFirsttimer video is not about the OS, but neither was most of the video ...

It's LInux and it uses a program called Cairo Dock to simulate the apps docker and the bottom of the screen. You can download similar program for Windows.

Redstar os is simple to use to mac os user but the defalt is korean but is posible to change in english but only on terminal and rootsetting
