I like the 509T. Have one on my carry gun. I shoot 5 days a week. That being said, I have sent 2 back because water has gotten on the inside.
Good to know how did that happen? Me and 3 other guys are abusing these optics and none of us have had that issue, however the supplied optics plate has been rusting pretty badly
Any issues or hassles with Holosun's warranty?
Don't tell me that bro!
Things happen. I own 2 that have been exposed too plenty of water and haven't had any issues. One thing with holosun is the quality control is definitely not up there with say aimpoint. More duds make it out due too that price difference. That's why I believe validate every optic before trusting your life too one. Put it through its paces, no matter what name makes it.
@@dr.jon3s not bad cs! Thanks for the reply sir!
Thanks for the great review. It helps me a lot!!
Terrific review....THANKS!
Nice drawing
Wow. That drawing is really good. Great video!
Well done sir!
You’re drawings getting better.
Like the shirt and I’ll probably be getting this optic. Thank you sir.
I grabbed up the PA Vulcan reticle version and love it, it's been great!
Honest, frank review.
Very well presented 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great information
Great review as always, love the drawing! Would love if they released a 509T with the P. A. Vulcan reticle.
agreed, I'm going with the 507 with the Vulcan for my first pistol dot but I plan on getting a 509T for an offset dot
Primary Arms just did
GREAT Review. i just picked up a second one
Been carrying one 16 hrs a day every day for a year now. Like it for the most part. Battery life is consistent at 2-3 months with 2nd highest brightness. Glass isn't as clear as others. But it keeps the dust out and is the only pistol optic I will use now. Sold my rmr because it was a dust bucket. Unusable after 3 hrs at work. Open emitters are no go for dirty environments.
You are only getting 2-3 months on 2nd highest setting? What's the temperature you're in alot? Just curious. Guy local to me that trains with us sometimes has been good for 8-9 months at that setting. I'm thinking it must be a temp and humidity thing possibly?
@@l337l0gan I’m going on five months constant on at the second highest brightness setting, so I’m with you there.
@@bDEREZZED yeah from what I've seen 6 months minimum on the 2nd highest setting. But maybe he is in extreme cold or something. I'm not sure. Curious though. Could also be the quality of the battery maybe?
In addition to temp, what brand batteries are you using?
@@l337l0gan I'm running Energizer batteries. Nothing crazy on temperature, Midwest working outdoors. But 80% of the time it's aiwb so I'm sure it's staying at body temperature. I wish it got better life for me, but I'm honestly only getting a couple months. I write the date on them, 3 months 12 days is my longest since I've been paying attention. I run the circle dot, which uses substantially more battery than just the dot. I had a little bit better life with my early 507 using the 2032 battery. Maybe 4-6 months. But it turned into a dust bucket after a couple hours at work.
Glass has room for activities, that's all I needed to hear.
Great stuff
I've had mine since it first came out. Love it. It's on my Glock 19. I wanted iron toward, optic back, so I had Maple Leaf in Texas machine it. Great company $175 to machine and nitride it. Took one month including shipping. Machining gives a lower profile. I use Night Vision night irons. Best irons. Used Optic Ready versus suppressor heights so I don't have huge front sight. Puts irons in lower third, leaving most of window clear, but enough to see full tritium for low/night lighting. Iron forward make the optic the true primary, and irons backup, but still outstanding day or night. Perfect configuration for me.
I prefer fixed over variable. Want to have 100% control. Which the solar worked in that configuration. Battery lasted over a year. Lasted well over a month after low light flicked started. Not going to just die on you.
The a
Astigmatism mentioned much just be dirty or smugged glass. When the dot starts looking larger or distorted, I just clear it with a microfiber cloth and it fixes the problem.
Again, love the optic, love my configuration.
Bun running a 509t on my duty gun for about 3 months on lower setting. Work night shift. Battery life is still good. Probably going to switch it soon just based on what people have said about it.
Love the whiteboard drawing
Good review bro
I have an rmr and a 509t both optics are really great. I don’t notice the less then stellar clarity in the 509t unless I look for it.
I felt you on the simple tool adjustment part.
Subbed, awesome review brother. I’m gonna do a review on the 508Tgr soon 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thats a pretty good drawing on the white board
I have the 509T on my RUGER 57 pistol and its weight means I must use 40 gr. ammo for sufficient recoil energy to work the heavier slide weight. I like the circle reticle for 200 yard shots B/C I can use the 6 o' clock position and make hits with that flat shooting 5.7 x 28 ammo.
Found you from Spotter Up page, I scored a 509T for $299 and plan on running one on my range toy upper (spare RMR cut glock 19 brownells made slide)
This is the way
Thanks for the info. JMHO
I have 3 of these and they’re fantastic on rifles and pistols. Best closed emitter at an price (subject to change when the ACRO-2 drops.)
Acro 2 has dropped, its barely Equal to this.
@@DonRaynor what are your thoughts on the P2?
@@THPOOKY better than the 1, still not equal to the 509t IMO
@@l337l0gan Yeah im basically in the same conclusion. The 509t has the shake awake, multiple reticles, solar failsafe option, smaller footprint, etc. It just edges out the aimpoint for me.
@@THPOOKY it's equal to 509T.
I prefer 509 though, because it's slightly shorter. Other ways they're equal.
“Room for activities”. 🤣. Well played sir.
So are we just not gonna talk about his drawing?
yeah its alright
Right? I was like damn thats pretty decent lol
Jagerwerks and maple leaf firearms now offer direct milling options for the 509t for those interested.
Pretty much everyone worth mentioning does at this point. ATEi had a 509T option as well.
Still rockin the good ol rmr type 2 🤷🏻♂️🙌🏻
509t + C&H precision MOS plate + Ameriglo GL 429 irons on a glock 19 = 🔥🔥
This is my exact set up! 👍🏻
@@deathdonut7721 most people i know have this exact set up, can't go wrong. what holster are you runnin?
@@AP-pj4insame question. (for IWB)
@@TerryFrenchy trex arms side car
C&h sucks now sadly
The Leatherman Micra keychain mult-tool has a tiny screwdriver that fits these.
I really loved my 509t! The form factor and everything works really well for me BUT I did have the rear lens pop out on it's third range trip which was during a class.
Forgot to mention, I have not yet sent it back for warranty stuff. I plan to do so this week.
UPDATE: Filled out the warranty form and was emailed a shipping label. I returned my dot and they shipped me a new one in less than two weeks upon them receiving my dot.
How was the warranty process?
@@elitesoundentertainment4950 The warranty process was pretty easy! Filled out a form, waited for a reply and in my case, they emailed me a return shipping label and I returned the dot back to them. They ended up shipping me a new dot that arrived less than two weeks later.
I hope Holosun comes out with a 509t with the acss vulcan circle ring.
That would be sick I hope they do a different reticle with the Vulcan ring soon as well not a fan of the triangle but I do like the larger outer ring
Yeah I totally agree 👍. The circle ring helps out alot in the way that it's actually fast to acquire the tringle especially if you're somewhat proficient with an optic. And the triangle is diffrent but I do prefer the dot over triangle. Also maybe it's just me but I feel that rmr type 2 is more accurate or it's easier to zero. 🤷♂️ just my opinion
I love the triangle. Rumor has it some sort of 509T with acss vulcan will happen in 2022
@@PH-xz4yz I’m sure they will they always release something better right after I just bought it LOL
They did!! I just bought one!!!
Any thoughts on the X2 version? It's a hundred bucks more, so I'm curious if battery life and/or other updates are worth it.
Also, thoughts on the auto brightness system?
Many thanks, my dude.
How TF in the world did you draw the optic that well your an artist!
Step brothers, nice
All this room for activities
Totally unrelated but I've been searching my heart out for a s2 syndicate slide. I'm really sold on the AOS system and am done going with milled footprints that will one day be outdated. Wish me luck lol.
Just get your slide milled for the AOS if you have an un-milled slide right now. That's what I did for my G17 and its been great for over 2 years now.
Great review and good info, thanks. However, what's the deal with not liking the adjustment screw type?? Once you have it zero'ed in, you shouldn't be messing with it after that except if you change ammo possibly or it takes a big bump but that's stretching it a bit. I run a lot of competitions and our guns get really beat up and I never need to re-zero unless something else changes. Anyway, great review and nice drawing!
Best guess is that temp and pressure changes your zero. After all instructors travel across the country, in the same week. So they actually have to chase a zero
I’ve had the ACRO P2 since July, upgraded from a P1 and it’s awesome. In terms of the adjustments then once it’s zeroed it’s zeroed, so the torx works fine in that regard. Be interesting to see how the 509TX2 compares to the original 509T though.
Who did you have to murder for one 😂
@@LarpingSupply no one fortunately, I just requested one in from the local distributor in May the day after Aimpoint’s online reveal event. When the distributor had 2 units in July they contacted ma and asked if I wanted one. 😀
@@theexpatgunner I am honestly debating getting the 509T Gen2 as a stop gap at this point lol
When I hold down the minus button my 509 won't switch recticals, it just disappears and then when I hold it down again it reappears but won't switch out of the circle rectical. Can someone help?
How well does this optic perform under nods compared to the 508 and others (rmr/aimpoint/sigs/other holosuns)
Gj before video starter
Who makes reputable plates, excluding CHPWS?
I have stigmatizem and so I do a green dot it way better.
does this optic allow any cowitness with suppressor height sights like the RMR/507c?
Yes
Of course.
I have a 508T X2 that arrived earlier than the G17 MOS. Now I'm in the biggest doubt if I go with the 508Tx2 or change for the SCS. Any suggestion?
I prefer a closed emitter optic like the 509T
How would this work on a shadow system mr920l ? Would I still need to use the plate or can I mount directly to slide like the 507c
Not sure. I don't use a shadow
My buddy has the 509T on his duty pistol and likes it. I shot it but the slight distortion bothered me so I will wait for the improved version.
Did you get the improved 509t? If so how was it and is it worth the additional $100
I was thinking about purchasing this optic for my Glock 19x, however isnt the optic a little too "high" or "big"? Can the iron sights be alligned with the dot, or is it so high that you just use the dot and forget the irons?
It's not any higher than other optics. You can still see the irons if properly milled slides or plates are used.
@@KineticConsulting thanks for the answer sir.
Can you please recommend sight heights for a minimal cowitness for this optic on a glock AOS platform?
ameriglo GL -429
What iron sights are you using to co-witness the p320? And do you happen to know the height?
They are Dawson's. I don't know the height off the top of my head.
@@KineticConsulting thank you! I have looked everywhere and no one covers that.
You think this would do well on a benelli m4?
Yes. -Guy who has one on a Benelli M4
Draw me like one of your French models
So is that a tlr1 or a cloud defensive prototype?
It's a TLR VIR 2.
Is a 2 moa dot even visible that far away from your face? I have never tried one before.
Yes
Do you have issues with using Nods behind any holosun optics? My friends are reporting that they can't see anything at all through the glass.
Yes, I use it through nvgs often. Not sure what they are doing incorrectly to not see.
@@KineticConsulting it was not specifically the 509T but their red dots for rifles. I forget which model... I'll have to ask.
@@xm3ntal620 gotcha. I don't have any of their rifle optics so I couldn't say. I use Aimpoints
Yo this is such a goofy question, you make him think it’s the 509T but then you walk it back saying it is some other optic you don’t even know the name of, and you are expecting him to just have it? Hilarious.
@@Osprey1994 not that goofy... It has something to do with the lens quality or coating on holosun optics. My friends are ditching their holosun red dots because of this.
What’s the retention holster for that sig?
Usually use the omnivore
"No power tools!"
Which WML is that?
That's a streamlight TLR VIR 2
@@KineticConsulting appreciate it
Made it to like #69.................nice!
Looking at getting another dot. Trijicon rmr or does the holosun make the rmr obsolete?
I don't think it makes it obsolete. Just depends on what you want/need.
@@KineticConsulting I want something that works and I can depend on. I only have experience with the rmr and to me it’s the standard. I do like the idea of the closed emitters but don’t know if it’s worth going away from trijicon. What are you seeing in classes and departments that allow rds? People sticking mainly to trijicon or going to holosun?
@@86keen when it comes to closed emitter the the 509T has been the go to for quite a few places. Some have the acro as well since it's a good optic just has the battery of an lpvo.
This guy is so hot 🥰
509t still king over Acro.. proabbly even Acro 2
False, try using it behind Nods.

Holosun, sig, and streamlight… the compromise gun.
Yeah... with all the agency arms goodness. Totally not a compromise gun.
Ok bub…not like Sig is SLAYING in the comp circuit, and it’s not like Streamlight has been widely endorsed by Mil and LE for years. As for Holosun, plenty of people switching from “no compromise optics” to Holosun because they offer something the others don’t with similar levels of durability for a lower price point…wait that doesn’t sound like a compromise.
bUt cHiNa 😑 screw off, idgaf if hitler made it, if it’s a good solid optic, it’s a good solid optic. Great review
