HI. My granddaughter makes these out of paper and has sold many of them...I can't wait to show her how to make these out of material...Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful project.....
Z's mom here. Thanks for sharing this craft. I've never seen anything like it before. They are so beautiful! You are such a good teacher. You go at just the right speed, have a pleasant speaking voice and explain everything thoroughly. I can't wait to try making some!
Thanks for the tutorials! I’ve made three of your no-sew ornaments, Scandinavian Star, quilted ball, and now this. This one I used 2 1/2” squares and scissors to cut the strips about 1/4”, so I could have one small enough for my tree. A little tricky being so small, but turned out very well!
You're so welcome! We're so glad you've been able to make so many great projects and that the small snowflake worked well for you! We'd love to see pictures if you want to share them.
Love these. I’m fed up having to re-do paper decorations after they get squashed. Can I share my top glue gun tip. When you put a new glue stick in. Pop a dot of hot glue on the end of the new stick to join it to the old one. Then you don’t lose the continuous flow 😊😊
You will have so much fun making these snowflakes with your grandchildren Penny Ueeck! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave this lovely comment!
Took me 4 min to realize that you are a great instructor. You are adorable. Thanks for taking the time to produce this work of art. Your efforts are appreciated.
I am an Occupational Theraist in a school and I make these with my students out of aer. I can't wait to try it out of material for home and i can give them as gifts!
Hi RJAG - We are very happy to hear that this project has inspired you! Don't forget to tag us in your project photos so we can see your beautiful creations! -Michelle
I've been watching your tutorials for about 6 months and every project I've done following your instructions have come out beautifully. I really like the free pattern downloads. The whole set up is perfect. I had made these snowflakes with paper and disappointed they barely lasted a week and forget about trying to store them. I was so happy to see your instructions for fabric snowflakes. Thank you.
Thank you SO much for watching our videos and learning along with us, Madeleine! We are so happy you found this tutorial and are much more satisfied than with the paper snowflakes. Thank you for your kind comment and for being a member of Team Shabby!
These are genius! No more tears or flattened snowflakes! These would be gorgeous with batiks! The dark one over your left shoulder (right side of screen) is my favorite. So lovely!
I can't wait to try this. They're gorgeous!!! And, I can make different sizes, using the same fabrics to make a set. Thanks so much and thanks for keeping it on UA-cam, as I'll have to refer back to it.
Thank you sooooooooo much for sharing! For the first time in 16 yrs I know what to give my ladies for the holidays! My son wants to make and sell them for college fund.......he's 11! May God bless you always.
This is beautiful and so easy! I watched this first on my phone, so came back to see the big screen. I thought of cutting & fusing larger pieces of fabric to cut my strips more easily, (as a viewer mentioned) however, I can see why you cut the strips for each one, as it reads better on You Tube and there are beginners who like and need the more precise instructions. Thank you so much, this is awesome.
I practice making these with construction paper super easy and fun! I love the big motifs when it comes to crafting I can't wait to make these for my tree with fabric. Thank you Shabby Fabric for sharing...and your tips are excellent reminders as well!
you are right they are the most beautiful snowflakes you can make I wish I can post a pic for you to see but thanks for the instructions so well that I could follow them good thanks a lot
You can certainly message us a photo on Facebook or email us at socialmedia@shabbyfabris.com +Sandi Rice! Thank you so much for watching- we are happy you had fun making them!
You are so welcome Phyllis! I'm glad you found the instructions easy to follow. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. God Bless you my friend :) Jen
Just came across this video and can't wait to make some! I made a quilt for each of my grandchildren and will make a snowflake out of leftover material for each of them. I give them a Christmas ornament each year (so they'll have a collection to take with them when they're off on their own) and was looking for a homemade one to make this year. Add a to/from and date on each. Perfect. Thanks! 🇨🇦
Thank you. Awesome tutorial and beautiful snowflakes. You could use an applique pressing sheet on top of your ironing board or pad to protect from adhesive ooze. Also silicone finger tips for those afraid of hot glue gun. Ÿou could mark the 1/2 inch stopping point for cutting with a heat erasable pen. Many people who play with fabric might already have these tools. Thanks again for your awesome tutorial! Marianne
I used to make these with my students for our classroom, but as you said they don't last. Love making them with fabric so we can do this for any season.
This is the cooolest idea. You made a beautiful, fun, idea. My daughter loves snowflakes, and I’m going to hang them from her ceiling when she is gone, to surprise her. Thanks.
Merry Christmas everyone! Your tutorials are fantastic and I've made 18 folded fabric ornaments and am working on my third 3D Fabric Snowflake. To say your projects are addicting is an understatement. Here's what I learned from the 3D Fabric Snowflakes: They are easy and they are fun! The first one was a bit more of a challenge; I worried about glue oozing out of the sides and it was hard (to me) to cut. The second one was much easier to cut, perhaps because I wasn't as nervous about it. Here's a suggestion for the Heat n' Bond (Ultra Hold) Cutting fabric larger and trimming it is good; however, there is waste, or more waste if you cut a full inch off after trimming. I cut my fabric into 6 1/2" squares and the Heat n' Bond into 6 1/4" squares. Place the Heat n' Bond on the center of the wrong side of the fabric. This does not have to be exact - you can eyeball the placement. When you place the 2 fabric squares together, align the edges as closely as possible and press. No oozing onto the iron or ironing board! Trim the squares down to the 6" needed to complete the project. You may find cutting them larger works for you and I know once you make one you'll want to make more.
+Darlene Frederick so, so glad to hear you are making so many of our projects and having fun in the process!! Thank you so much for your tips and tricks to making the 3-D snowflakes- trial and error are the best learning tools that we have as crafters!!
I hope to make at least one of these this Christmas season; they are beautiful! While out shopping last week, someone had a lovely remnant and must've decided they didn't want it. Or perhaps they were hiding it to come back and purchase it later. It was not in the remnant bin but left with the bundles. Anyway, I spotted it while going through the bundles. It was 3/4 of a yard of beautiful blue, glittery snowflake fabric! Yes, I bought it and plan to use it to make a 3-D Snowflake. Guess it was my lucky day! A tip for moving your ruler/square: Use a suction cup hook like you'd use to hang something on a window. They come in different sizes and for a smaller ruler or square, they are the perfect tool to help pick up and move the square without disturbing the fabric.
Thank you so much for sharing that tip with us +Darlene Frederick! Great find on that snowflake fabric, too! Getting the perfect remnant is always the best feeling!
Jennifer, This is such a fun project. I so enjoyed making one today, and plan on making more. They are easy and beautiful. Thank you for your videos ! They are so easy to follow.
Thank you so much for watching, June! We're so glad the video was helpful and that you were successfully able to make one! We'd love to see pictures if you want to share them with us.
I made my first one tonite. Your instructions are easy to follow and they are super cute! My porch is going to have a nice when I have all six done. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how to do them!
These are beautiful and so glad out of fabric. You make things look so easy, and I love your way of teaching. Anxious to try these and have a couple of friends over to make them as well. Sending this web site to my Daughter and Granddaughter in NC to see.
Fabulous! I did fine until the centre which I thought I had stuck centrally but its not lining up to a perfect star lol - so maybe try a pin before sticking as I cant pull apart. Next one will be better. Great Tutorial Jennifer - thanks so much
I'm so excited to make one and see how it turns out ...my niece is having a party in Dec to get people into the spirit of Christmas and I figure since she has decorated her home I will make these for her to put up thanks love them a lot wish me luck and ill try to post a pic if I can when I'm done
the difference being people could then eat them. mastercook.com/app/Recipe/WebRecipeDetails?recipeId=8373705So do you then store them in a tub or keep them hanging or..?
So for one star I should buy about 10" of 44" wide fabric in 2 colors. If I cut carefully I will get the six 7" squares out of that with just 2" left over on the width. These are so beautiful!
That's right! These are so beautiful and with fabric they last so much longer! We'd love to see pictures of your finished project. Let us know how it goes! - Morgan
Had WAY too much fun making these.. while i didnt make the star, i did make individual components as Ornament gifts. i added the detail of using alphabet beads as well as decorative ones to put each recipients name on their ornament. came out a treat!!! oh and i modge podged each ornament to help it maintain its shape (i found if i was even more careful when cutting, it was easiest to modge podge while the two layers were flat (before folding/cutting) cutting was a tad harder but end effect was WORTH it.. thank you for my gifts i was able to give!! (i would enclose pics but dont know how here) -- happy holidays to all
Stunning! I will be making these for my grand daughters to hang in their bedrooms. Of course with leftover fabrics from their quilts :) What a wonderful idea...Thanks you :)
Robin Stowers - You are so welcome and thank you for watching the video! I hope you'll have a chance to make some 3-D Snowflakes! They are so much fun! Happy New Year, Jennifer
This is a brilliant tutorial. I have made one and as Jennifer says they are easy to make and look lovely. I used to do a little bit of sewing before I got into quilting and crafting and showed my sewing teacher the picture of the snowflake. She too thinks it's great and has asked to show her how to make it. I hope that doesn't create a problem. I have told her where I got it from. Please let me know if you are against it. I pass on Jennifer's name and shabby fabrics to all I come across. You have an amazing team.
Hi Jennifer - I LOVE these snowflakes. It is only June and I can't wait to get making LOL. Love your channel. I get so frustrated over here in England as you have some great tools in the US such as the 'Fussy Cut Ruler' - 'Heat resistant ruler' we cannot get those over here. Thank you for all your videos , I love them, especially the longer ones you do. Thank you. Linda from England
Hi Linda, thank you so much for supporting our channel! We're so glad you like the videos and find them helpful. We feel like we're always in Christmas/Winter project mode over here, so we understand you completely! lol. It is a bummer that there are some things you can't get. :/ Maybe that's just an excuse to come to the states and go shopping. ;) haha.
Awesome snowflake! How cool is that. I'm so excited to make all of these fun projects with fabric!!! YIPPEE! Love your channel. Never have used Heat n' Bond before. Looking forward to learning more from you, Jennifer. Thank you.
I wonder if maybe riveting them together would be a good idea to make them longer lasting? You showed yourself that the glue comes apart easily, Jennifer, and my concern would be that small hands would take great delight in destroying these! This could also solve the centre point issue, too, because you’d be able to use a ring through the rivets to bring all the points together. ❤️
Hi Emma - That's a really interesting idea! They are delicate so anything that holds them together would be worth trying. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment :) Jen
Wow these are so cool!!!
They really are! Happy that you love them! Thanks for your comment! - Abby
I could watch this every year for Christmas. I love these!
Such a fun and stunning project this one is! Happy that you love it and we appreciate your support! Thanks for your comment! - Abby

Love these. I’m fed up having to re-do paper decorations after they get squashed.

I LOVE THESE! What a way to use up smaller pieces of fabric! I'm thinking of also adding crystals as well for some extra pretty sparkle!!!
Yes - these are awesome stash busters! Thanks for watching and commenting!
So glad this is still playing. Going to make this with my daughter and daughter in law. What fun!!! Thank you.
This is a great craft to do with loved ones +Becky Hansley! Thank you so much for watching!
I just fused the large strips of fabric together first and then cut out the 6" squares. Much less fabric waste and saves time.
That is so efficient! Thanks for sharing that!
I thought this too. Much more efficient and less fiddly.
To funny. You have been sewing for 30 years and never follow the pattern when cutting out fabric. Most of the time there is so much waste.
A Droege I
Couldn't you just put the heat and bond on one fabric? it seems a waste to put it on both sides but maybe it's needed for the stiffness?
I can't wait to try this. They're gorgeous!!! And, I can make different sizes, using the same fabrics to make a set. Thanks so much and thanks for keeping it on UA-cam, as I'll have to refer back to it.
+Susan Allen these look great in different sizes! That will be so cute! Thank you so much for watching!
Today is 12/22/20. I just happened to come across this video. I could make these! Thanks for the instruction. Merry Christmas!
Hi Rita! Thank you so much for watching! Merry Christmas! - Sophie

You are so right! These have so many uses! Thank you so much for watching!
I’ve made many paper ones using a stapler. These fabric ones will be heirlooms! Thank you.
That's exactly right! We love the fabric versions because they can easily become heirlooms, and they last year after year.
I like the snow flake pattern. Thanks
So glad you like it +Doris Huddleston! Thank you for watching!
I used to make these with my students for our classroom, but as you said they don't last. Love making them with fabric so we can do this for any season.
Such a fun craft for the kids! We love the fabric because they're easier to reuse every season! - Morgan

excellent tutorial such a beautiful snowflake I must make these for Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! Your tutorials are fantastic and I've made 18 folded fabric ornaments and am working on my third 3D Fabric Snowflake. To say your projects are addicting is an understatement.

She too thinks it's great and has asked to show her how to make it. I hope that doesn't create a problem. I have told her where I got it from. Please let me know if you are against it. I pass on Jennifer's name and shabby fabrics to all I come across. You have an amazing team.
You can definitely teach this to your friends and family, that's no problem at all! :) - Morgan

:/ Maybe that's just an excuse to come to the states and go shopping. ;) haha.

muy bonito, sencillo y facil. gracias
¡Muchas gracias por mirar!
Once its dry...good luck pulling apart lol - I got my centre too far apart and I cant break it
Those are so pretty! Love them. You make it look so easy, but for me hmmmmm. I will try them for sure😊. Thank you Jennifer
