Seat posts are definitely a game changer. I actually recommend upgrading the seat post before upgrading your seat. In my case, that was enough to make the difference on my RadPower RadCity bike.I kept the stock seat.
I use also one on my e-bike for more than a year. The comfort is like a old Citroën CX. Very smooth and comfortable. Well done. The slow motion really showed how it works. To me, it appeared like it was set a little too soft or a stiffer spring was needed. When she went over the big bump and also when she went down the curb the seat post completely bottomed out. My thinking is I’d want it to take up the biggest shocks and maybe sacrifice a little comfort on the smaller bumps. Thoughts?
The preload can also be adjusted. I feel like the seatpost is very good on the big bumps which you notice. On smaller bumps it does help but you'll notice more when you hop on a bike without a suspension seatpost.
Great video as always! I was hoping for an in-depth video about it. I am getting a RadRunner soon, which also doesn’t have front fork suspension, but I will wait to see how it feels stock first. Thanks!
Hey, thanks! The one downside on the RadRunner is that your seat won't match up nicely if you're using the rear passenger pad. I've heard from many folks who found that proprietary seat uncomfortable. Even to change out the seat you have to buy a new seatpost so that's why many opt to just put on a suspension seatpost at the same time.

That's a good review and I think this seat post will also fit the Radwagon 4. If one examines the bike one will see that it has a sleeve that fits inside the large frame and it is fastened with a quick release on the frame. It then it has a 27.2 mm seat post inside the sleeve and it is also held in place with a quick release. The 27.2 mm Radwagon 4 seat post also has a detent running the length of the seat post and it is used in conjunction with an allen head screw situated in the sleeve to prevent the seat post from turning or twisting. There is also another allen head screw near the bottom of the 27.2 mm seat post to prevent removing it from the sleeve. One simply needs to remove the allen head screw from the sleeve and the 27.2 mm seat post comes right out. Most seat posts don't have the detent but the most common size is 27.2 mm so literally any 27.2 mm seat post should fit. ok, i just installed one of these. Of course, if it hardly goes down at all, turn the adjuster counter clockwise to loosen it up. You can have someone judge this by looking at the silver suspension tube that is going to go DOWN when you sit on the seat. Very good video, thanks. I was wondering what the weight of the lady riding the bike was and what color spring she was using? 👍😀🇨🇦
Between 130/140 or so. It is the stock standard spring.
@@EbikeEscape thanks for the reply. I’m trying to decide if I need to buy the soft-blue spring. My weight is in the range of 125/130 lbs. Do you think the stock spring will be too hard for me?
@@parksguy3018 I'd think it would be ok since that's pretty close. I guess I'd buy it and try the stock spring out and then if you decide you want the soft spring then you can buy it.
@@EbikeEscape thanks so much for your advice. I will definitely do as you have suggested.👍🙂🇨🇦
Amazon has one for $70 29.2 diameter, is this the correct one? But I see it's shipped from the UK and it's taking 2 to 3 mos to get here!
29.2 doesn't sound correct. Should be 27.2. I know stock is low so if you can find one, buy it!
@@EbikeEscape 27.2 my bad!
Can you adjust the seat angle?
Yes, definitely - much like any other seatpost.
Hello Ebike Escape, did you find the stock suspension spring to be fitted to the weight of your wife? My wife is about 60 kg of weight, or 132 lbs, what is your thoughts about the need to change to the blue spring for this sort of weight?
I just left the stock one on for both of us - I'm 145ish. I think it's worth trying out before you consider a different spring.
@@EbikeEscape yes, that was my way of thinking. We'll give it a try, so many people say its really good change, my wife also ride in a vertical stand position similar to the radwagon pos that you showed in the video, we ride in dirt roads when we do cycle tourism and she feels the bumps very hardly on her, so I start thinking in a solution like this, so thank you for the video it helped :)
What's the deal with min 10mm exposed thread? Mine is almost flush.
I'm not positive but I think it's just a maximum adjustment. SR Suntour would be better to answer the question. If you find out let me know!
It is so it doesn't bottom out and cause damage. I have adjusted mine. I found my instructions for the post, and that what it says there.
thanks for this video, very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Does the rad rhino5 (rover) use the size 27.2 ? Or a bigger size ?
Same size, 27.2.
Useful review, thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
A question: do i have to buy the red/blue suspension separately from the sp12-ncx seatpost ?
I do not believe I've seen those sold anywhere else. You could try a local bike shop though.
Go right to Suntour. $14.95
Do u know if the seat post fits a ride1up 500?
Yes, it will. Looks like you need the 27.2 diameter seatpost.
Would this be overkill on an ebike with dual suspension?
Overkill? No. Just a nice way to add some extra confort
I’m having trouble installing my cloud 9 seat onto the sr suntour seat post. The seat rails are set too wide for the seat post clamps. Did you have the same issue?
Try bending the seat rails slightly. I did not have this issue but I know some people have. Shouldn't be too much of a difference.
@@EbikeEscape Gotcha. Surprised to hear the spacing varies... Would think Cloud 9 products were better quality. Don't think I'll try bending it since ill probably over due it. Thanks for the suggestion anyways. Cheers.
@@Am5lu I know it's been a while, but I'd imagine there are different size seats with differently spaced seat rails.
Do u think this would be good for a short 5'4 rider or do u think it would be too tall? I'm also riding a radrover step thru not a rad wagon.
Do you already have the RadRover?
@@EbikeEscape yeah I've had it for a few months. Does great off road trail riding. I use it as my off road hunting vehicle. I have 260 some miles on it most of which are off-road. Got some tannus tire armor too because I don't want to have to change flats every 100 to 150 miles.
@@garrettromer8499 Ok check where your seatpost is. Does it have room to go down 3-4 inches? If so then you'll be fine with the seatpost
@@EbikeEscape lol nope I got her bottomed out on the seat post. Had to take off the metal plate that the brake light sits on to get it low enough. Which is fine because u can't even see the brake light well with the fenders on anyway. Way better to get a rear rack and attach the brake light to that so people can actually see it. Oh well I have a big cruiser style seat on it anyway. I had went with the cloud 9 at first but I didn't like how it felt or the look of it. I just got a bikeroo old person seat and it feels and looks so much better on my black rad rover.
When did this seatpost form Suntour first came out, and is the sp12 model any different than the sp17?
I think it has been out for some time. No idea what the difference is between the SP17 but it looks like you can't even buy the SP17 online.
@@EbikeEscapeI found places that sell them. A lot of places actually. Bike-discount has the best price. Thanks for responding
@@igorstimac8993 Oh cool, maybe worth asking SR Suntour directly. If you do, let me know what you find out.

You can find them both here. They look the same and have the exact same specs
@@EbikeEscape I found out out that the sp17 is the exact same seatpost but sold at different diameter size - 30.9. Many stores have the NCX sp12 and then a selection of different diameters, and if you choose the 30.9 diameter you actually bought the "newer" sp17
Great video! Thanks so much!
Glad you found it helpful.
does this suspension seatpost NCX 12 fit on a LECTRIC BIKE?
Yes though you need to make sure you purchase the correct seatpost shim. Look at your seatpost and note the diameter.
Can you tell me how much height the suspension section adds to the seat height? I am a short rider and only have my seatpost raised around 8 to 10cm
About 4 inches or so.
@@EbikeEscape is that after you sit on it ?
Best value for the money
how long is the suspension part? im short and usually i set up the seatpost as low as i can, how much does this adds to the height?
I'd say about 4 inches or so. I can measure soon if you need a more accurate measurement.
@@EbikeEscape i got the messure thank you a lot, you are correct its 4 inches.
Enjoy your reviews.
I am 5'9/165lb. My wife is 5'4/140lb.
We share one e-bike. Could we buy just one of these and adjust the height, or do you think we would need a dropper?
My guess is that you'd probably be ok as long as your wife can still ride the ebike with the height that the suspension seatpost adds. You'd want to set the spring to your liking and then test it out to see if it works for your wife.

Thanks for the response.

I'm having trouble fitting my 30.9 suntour ncx seat post on my lmtd. The stock lmtd seat post is actually 30.4 and I cannot get the suntour to go down it is so tight. Any suggestions?
Is 30.4 actually listed on the seatpost itself? Ride1Up website says 30.9. I don't have my bike handy so can't check mine but I thought it was 30.9...
@@EbikeEscape yes it says 30.4 on the stock lmtd seat post but it does say 30.9 on ride1up website
@@IG-208 That is very odd. I just checked mine at it is a 30.9. Is yours a first gen LMT'D? Might be worth asking Ride1Up what's going on.

No problem, let me know what you find out. This will probably be a common question I get.
Very informative video.
what size suntour ncx suspension seatpost for ride1 up lmtld
Hi Michael, I believe my earlier LMT'D was a different size so check your seatpost when you get your LMT'D.
Will the 30.9mm seat post fit on your Ride1Up LMT'D?
Yes! I might upgrade at some point or try a different brand out to compare. I imagine at some point in the next year I'll get a different ebike which might replace the LMT'D - just because I want to continue to feature new models on the channel.
I have this combo with front fork, luxury ride .

Amazing review thank you
Thanks!
Which one fits the espin nesta
Check out the diameter on the seatpost. Buy the same size or a shim and you'll be all set.
Which size will fit on a lectric lite?
You would need a 31.6 seat post or a smaller size and a shim. Here is a link to the correct size SR Suntour NCX Seatpost (amzn.to/3tSDayX affiliate link).
Also just know that the XP Lite has a really long seat to accommodate taller riders. You will lose some of that height if you go to a suspension seat post. -JT
Thanks
Excellent informative video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Why is there a trend with helmets that look like you’re a jockey about to go for a horse back ride?
Lots of people gravitate towards helmets that look a bit more unique than just the standard helmets with holes. I think it's great to have options, but of course everyone has their preference. No problem with the more standard helmets if that is what you like.
Ok..5 secs into video.. I was like DIMITRI!! 🤣🤣🤣

That seat post loooked very uncomfortable. It bottomed out every bump.
It still cushioned some of the bump, which adds a good bit of comfort.
We have played with the springs since this and have made it so it bottoms out much less.
Buy from Suntour the ones on eBay, Am, Walmart&Ali express are knockoffs! Suntour has a disclaimer on their website

Looked like it bottoms out on hard bumps which makes it useless.
The suspension is adjustable and I've personally never felt it bottom out (otherwise I'd adjust it).

God bless the playback speed increase toggle bar
Completely agree. It's better at 1.5 speed.
I dont know with the rider on the back
You can't fine tune the saddle tilt with this seatpost, impossible to get the saddle to be level
I am pretty sure it has a tilt adjustment. Did you try that?
On the rad powerwagon, The baby needs the suspension more than you.

please be mindful of the child behind you if you plan to use this seat post on that bike. it maybe comfy for you but not the child who will be seating on that child seat. the child only has the tyre for suspension.... if you are riding alone then thats fine

Ah yes, we've improved since then :)
*Less than 2" of travel? Overly expensive, little benefit.*
