2:40 to 3:28 should be a scene in itself - the big reveal! Lee was still recovering from the tears and intense emotions of that last scene yet he still reassured the shocked girl. That's how actors should support each other, wonderful example of caring for the others well being.
Lisa Baltzer if you watch the "featuretts" on the DVD you Will see that they just finished filming the scene where Alexandria convinces Roy to change the ending of the story and his mind about whether or not he deserves to live. He cried a lot in that scene. He spent about 2 hours crying in that scene because Catinca was not acting well at all, until the last few minutes of the 2 hours, so Mr. Pace was still recovering.
So good that they went for making her believe he was actually sick and keep calling him Roy. It must have been so confusing and hard to understand all this as a little girl.
lol, it's so weird to direct a little happy kid. "NOW GO CRY!!!! I SAID CRY!!!" hahahhaa, man, being a director is difficult. appreciate the hard work!
Вся съёмочная группа молодцы!!! Ли просто бесподобен!!! Катинка принцесса!!! Мне очень понравилось как режиссёр терпеливо разговаривает с девочкой,никто не повышает голоса,все хвалят малышку это очень здорово!!!
So...so true..I had the exact same feeling after watching it for the first time...I referred it to so many people....Its an amazing movie...everyone related to this movie just created a magic...
i have to agree....even though this one of my all time favourite movies..... Tarsem and the crew went too far with manipulating catinca in order to make her do what they want. I have two daughters and i would never want someone to mess with their feelings like that. No wonder Lee Pace felt uncomfortable about it! I think he' s a very sensitive person.
Based on what I can see in this video, I don't think that is the case. I feel they pushed her juuuust enough. She seems incredibly talented for a toddler to me, and I think she had a better understanding of her directions than one might expect a girl her age to. She also had support from cast and crew (you can see Lee Pace taking good care of her and developing a real bond with her, and apparently Tarsem changed a lot of the dialogue to match how Catinca saw the movie, including the 3/E bit).
Also they wanted to do it the most logical way to work with Catinca's age. For example: in the hospital scenes she's missing her front teeth but it's implied that she imagines them having grown back during the story
that´s such a beautiful moment when he stands up, but honestly someone of the whole crew could just google him and they would see in a video or something that he can walk
Maybe some did recognize him, but when even director said that is Roy only very few ppl would doubt - think he could be someone else. The other actors and whole crew including director isn't really that famous. In my country most of the people even doesn't know Lee and it's been almost 10 years from the day this movie came out. I think some of them knew who he is, but many didn't and especially people around Catinca and that was a good move. They wouldn't make such an amazing movie if she knew. The less people knew, the better.
A piece of advice to lily268. Give some tags for this video. There are not many making of "the fall" videos here, this video deserves a lot more views than it has now. For example : The Fall, making of, Lee Pace, Tarsem etc.
No .. During the shooting at hospital he make belive to everyone that he can't really walk ... so when they finish this part and he stend up to make a surprise how you can see at 3:00 ... i hope u understan , sorry for the bad english
"Should we chekc the gate first?" LOL XD I heard somewhere that some assistant accidentaly saw Lee Pace standing, so the secret was revealed earlier. And it means the Bandit-scenes were shot later, after the hospital scenes? Cause there he was standing. Anyways, it is a big thing playing even when he is no on set.
I don't know if it's just me but I felt a somewhat uncomfortable with how Catinca was being directed, it must have been really stressful for her at times, not only the directing but certain scenes themselves. *spoiler alert* Like the scene where Roy finds out he took a placebo instead of the morphine tablets and throws a fit of rage for his failed suicide attempt. In that scene, you notice how she instantly turns away and looks so bewildered almost to the point of freezing on the spot. I mean, watching a dear friend in such a state of rage can be devastating, especially to a child. You can argue her reaction was acting, but I really wonder. Just as the last story scene when Roy is giving up on his life, this was also a very violent one. *end of spoilers* Regardless, this is still one of my favorite movies of all time.
Hey there :) this is a bit off topic, but I was initially wondering why he became so drowsy if only taking placebo during that scene. I re-watched and paused the movie on the bottles, and he'd actually saved the morphine tablets and took those along with the placebo which is why he was knocked out but not killed. I initially thought that all he'd taken was the placebo!! Anyway I agree with you and others about feeling uncomfortable for the little girl in many scenes, but hopefully now that she's older she can look back on such a beautiful movie with pride knowing she had an integral part in making it so perfect. You probably won't see this as your comment is 2 years old but I don't have anyone to talk with about The Fall so figured I'd leave my two cents here. :)
If I remember correctly, I read that because they didn't want to pressure Catinca in these emotional scenes by having a lot of takes, they decided they could only film them once. In the scene where Roy is so distressed, they said that Catinca was so scared she peed herself. But they comforted her immediately. I don't really know what the conditions are for child actors on set, I suppose it must be quite stressful, but based on these videos I think it safe to assume they took good care of her and really loved her. I hope at least
russianargyle yes. he just wanted her to be as natural as possible, to behave like a real 5 year old would, to make the acting as easy for her as possible.
hi5kathleen to the best of my knowledge, when filming a scene at one location, or on a set ( a place or location built to film a scene in a movie), and the director is finished filming the scene, the director will say "check the gate" and it means that he is done filming the scene so everyone can leave the area or place or the set and go to the next location, or wherever the actors and crew are suppose to be. I guess Lee was saying he wants to leave the area because he was lieing to the crew for 2 months, and believe it or not, some of the crew members were upset that they were lied to, but they were mostly upset with Tarsem.
comaneci1. that they are done filming and they have all of the shots they need. i guess he had 2 "wraps", one in South Africa and the other in India and Outside of China and in the desert when they filmed the other scenes with Catinca and the Black Bandit. after that they still were not done because they added other scenes like 2 years later and a few 4 years later. so 4 years after he started filming was the real "wrap".
OMG what Lee Pace did, so amazing for help the girl act. Almost cry.
2:40 to 3:28 should be a scene in itself - the big reveal! Lee was still recovering from the tears and intense emotions of that last scene yet he still reassured the shocked girl. That's how actors should support each other, wonderful example of caring for the others well being.
He appeared like he was sick to me. He was coughing and wiping his nose.

Lisa Baltzer he had gotten depressed and physically ill because of the lying and because he had been alone for week since nobody could know
patphatcat I know they put drops in Lee's eyes to look like tears.
mamiluisamia the drops were very helpful , I bet.
SEriously, she made the entire film.
So good that they went for making her believe he was actually sick and keep calling him Roy. It must have been so confusing and hard to understand all this as a little girl.
Oh gosh Lee at 6:02... he was just SO perfectly cast in The Fall
lol, it's so weird to direct a little happy kid. "NOW GO CRY!!!! I SAID CRY!!!" hahahhaa, man, being a director is difficult. appreciate the hard work!
MashAllah.. Such a beautifully talented kid. She was the highlight of the film !!!

OH MY GOSH Lee at 5:46 shocked me with his solemn coolness
"Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92, II. Allegretto"
by Ludwig van Beethoven
Performed by The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra
such a beaaaaaaautiful movie!!!!! I cried like a baby ugh! :') :') :')
Pace and Catinca together are just SO cute
lmaoo "I'm sorry!!"
"I DON'T BELIEVE YOU"
He wanted her to have some kind of sympathy for him in her eyes. Yes, in a way to help her act naturally.
Literally best movie ever
oh dear god i would adopt them both
all the feeeeels
I can't help but feel that they pushed Catinca a little too hard, I felt sorry for her.
sammy eagleson Yeah I feel the same.
Based on what I can see in this video, I don't think that is the case. I feel they pushed her juuuust enough. Did they film all the hospital scenes first? They must have because otherwise everyone would have seen he could actually walk
Yes and also Lee's Hair is shorter in the Flashbacks.

Google who? Roy? They were calling him Roy the whole time. It really knew only director and only a few other ppl or maybe only him.
was he so less famous back then that no one had ever seen him?! weird

Kyraaification yeah I agree with you I mean I actually know him for maybe one and a half year as Thranduil from The Hobbit
I think it was more of method acting for Catinca sinc e it looked like they were trying to get a more genuine reaction out of her
did they ever tell her that his name wasn’t roy

I just thought that Tarsem would add this scene in the film. Btw, thank you for replying.

Amazing!
Tarsem made one or two really good movies...
no no like they say in the comment below ..was just an idea to make catinca (the little girl ) belive that he can't really wolk for a best acting . ^^
Is there another part? >
cry, Katinka, CRY!
@T97Frida YES. I love it!
Shall we check the gate first? XD
COOL
I'm a little bit confused cause in the movie there is no this surprising scene reveals that Roy can walk. Is it in DVD?
dogwill1 yes in a little "behind the scenes" documentary.
Oh god, I want a daughter.
Me toooooo...!!!!
Poor little girl .
Okay. I still don't get why. To help Catinca act?
russianargyle yes. he just wanted her to be as natural as possible, to behave like a real 5 year old would, to make the acting as easy for her as possible.
what is the song that plays at the end?
anyone know?
what do they mean should they check the gates first? i dont get it. :(
