Quite possibly the best tutorial for sewing a leather steering wheel cover in place, thank you. Having never held a needle & thread before my hope is that my sausage like fingers can do your instructions justice.
just make sure guys test out the steering wheel cover, then align it (double check, triple check is centered. Then, just follow the instructions and keep the line tight at all times. Again, the key is to keep the line tight at all times. Good luck, guys. You can do it. Just take your time. This project is time-consuming. But it is well worth it.
Thank you for this video. It took me 4 hours total, on an Audi A4. Very happy with the result. The hardest part was not the stichting but to put the alcantara in the small slots of the plastics, and make it smooth. But the sewing pulled almost all wrinkless away, so satisfying!
Excellent tutorial!!! The instructions that came with my steering wheel cover were terrible. Followed your video and my M steering wheel came out excellent.
Thanks so much! Excellent install video. You did a great job explaining and videoing the intricate sewing. Also thanks for the hot tip on loosening the trim!
Great video! I'm very tempted to buy one of these covers for my Lancer, mainly to protect the wheel beneath it, but also for the look/feel although I was unsure about the whole installation. Now I know how it's done, I'm pretty confident that i can do it right if I take my time
Im positive that you can get it done. Must definitely take your time and will have great results. Separate a couple of hours, this project was time consuming, but we'll worth it. You'll understand every time you get in to your car and grab that Steering wheel. Pay close attention to always keeping the line tight on every stitch. Pull enough to keep it tight but don't over do it to the Steering Wheel Cover breaks. Pay close attention to that part. Good luck with your project. Let me know how it goes 💪
Thank you. I previously watched 4 videos now yours. You are by far the best. Covering a '17 Ford F-150 with blue stripe up top and blue thread in the morning. 👍👍
I did mine this weekend. I used a way less tape. Just at the back and only on joining parts steering wheel. Getting the cover of the tape is annoying. Apart from dropping my needle and it landed somewhere unreachable (luckily they delivered two needles) and my thread sometimes getting into a knot (I guess thread too long and friction when pulling it through made it tangle up). After 4 or 5 hours it was done. Not perfect like you did it here, but it sits and feels good.
Thanks. I thought I would not be able to do this. But with your tutorial I feel confident I can do it. I wonder if it's easier or better to remove the steering wheel?
Thank you Rod 👍 If you take the steering wheel off, you can work in the confort of your home. The only thing is that you won’t have the steering wheel steady in place, but you can figure a way to do the job comfortably. It’s a little time consuming so it’s up to you.
Yeah. Those ones are easier to put on as a cover and definitely less work. Yet it looks as what it is, a cover. The one that you have to sew is definitely more work but it looks as if its meant to be there.
No it shouldn’t. It’s just double sided tape that can easily be cleaned with goo gone. But if the original steering wheel is cracking or if it’s pealing from been “old” then pretty much anything you put in there is not good. In case you are concerned, you can just put some of the double sided tape in the back of the steering wheel itself, at 12, 3, 6, and 9. Just to hold it in place.
Your welcome bro 🙌 Hope yours come out nice too 💯 Pay close attention on the set up and aligning of the Steering Wheel Cover, the rest is just the sewing.
Thanks man 👍 And No, not at all. Taking the Steering Wheel out actually makes it more confortable. If you feel confident taking it out, you can watch some tv while sawing the Steering Wheel 😅 Its definitely time consuming, but the results are great. Just make sure you are dead center, and take your time aligning everything up before sawing. Other than that you'll be good.
Thank you 🙏 If your steering wheel looks like mine and as the one from the link then yes absolutely 👍 I believe most steering wheels 2008 to 2013 are the same. But just double check with the pictures. If you end up doing this steering wheel, your love it.
Thank you 🙌 💯 The procedure is the same for any car. The most important part is to align everything up before starting to sew that way it can come out the best.
Crazy Car Mod Guy... Hey buddy, great video. I'm on the lookout for a cover (green stitch) but not sure if you help. I'm in th UK and have a 2007 Audi A4 B7 S Line. Any pointers would be great help. :-)
Thanks bro. You gonna love it. I always get a smile when I get in the car and I see it; definitely worth it. Just take your time, this is fairly simple mod, that looks great but requires patience. let me know how it turns out. 👍
@@CrazyCarMods did you have problems getting the front and back seam to meet, I've got 3mm gap which I can't seem to pull any closer, I can only assume my msport steering wheel is too fat or I'm not pulling tight enough?
The only place where i notice a very small space between the front and the back was on the curve of the steering wheel spoke but by sawing it all close you can't see it. The rest is close together. You just gotta make sure the front and the back touch together when sticking it with the tape, because if you try to pull it afterwards you may brake the thread.
Removing the trim will take a lot more time. In order to remove the steering wheel trim properly, the air bag needs to come out. And for the air bag to come out you need to wait about an hour after unplugging the battery, before disconnecting the power source for the airbag power. This way you wont cause any shirt circuit. A short circuit even though is rare can cause your air bag to deploy. So its better to be safe. I have seen a guy removing the trim without removing the air bag, but this way you may brake the tabs that told it. Yet it is not as simple to remove. You will need to wrestle your way, risking braking something. And yes, the steering wheel cover comes with the double sided tape. Hope that helps bro 👍
Yes. The idea after you finish sewing your section is to tie a knot as close as you can to your last sew tread, then you cut the excess. Make sure to tie the knot a minimum of 3 to 4 times, one on top of the other. You want to create a little ball so the tread can not go back (or get unsewed). You can see this part in minute 14:07
Is the double sided tape necessary or does it also minimise the wrinkles? Let me rephrase the question. 😅 Is it even possible to get the same result without using double sided tape? I'm also wondering if using tape will be noticed on touch or visually through the leather cover. Great video 🎉
