  • My home made Lister D (1.5hp) powered kinetic/flywheel powered log splitter. Works great. Will try and do a few more vids of the mechanisms etc. This is just showing it working. This is a bit of a boring vid, its my first one, or maybe my second! They should improve over time!! Thanks anyway for watching, well done if you made it too the end.

    What a neat demo. Not just the engine but the whole design. Proves several points---all without massive horsepower, noise, kerfluffle etc. etc.

    that engine sounds like a sewing machine, so smooth and quiet

    • @tinkertime7165
      @tinkertime7165  7 років тому +1

      red66chevy, it does. I think what helps is the flywheel the engine is a nice size, about 70lb. Keeps things nice and smooth. These engines were designed to produce 1hp at 500 rpm, 1 1/2hp at 700rpm and 2hp at 1000rpm. You bought the engine with the output you required back in the day. They were designed to run all day and did a multitude of different tasks, water pumps, small machines, conveyors, all manner of things. Thanks for your comment.

      The quiet engine is one of things that so appeals to me about this machine, the splitters I've used and seen are so noisy by comparison.

      Totally right. If you look at other youtube vids of kinetic splitters you can see the wood moving along the table as it vibrates. This engine lulls you into an almost trace like state!!!! Whoever designed it, should have a medal.

      caroline camp, yeah, thanks. I like to make life easier and the mundane jobs become more interesting. I could not see myself swinging a maul splitting wood for the rest of my life, lol! Thanks for your comment. And I see you have recently started posting video's. Good for you!

      Yeah, thanks. It is only producing about 1.5 hp. It must be the stored energy in the three flywheels. Most others I have seen out there are running 6+ hp engines. I find the revvy engines more stress inducing!

    Well done. Really quick and easy splitting job there. Have you considered making a foot pedal to operate a lever to engage the rack?

    • @tinkertime7165
      @tinkertime7165  6 років тому

      Bernhard Hofmann YES! I am designing one in my head and have been pinging ideas around for a little while. It would have some kind of spring in the drive to work with the auto release.

    I wonder if I can find a lister in Canada? Beautiful setup, thank you for the video!

    • @tinkertime7165
      @tinkertime7165  7 років тому +1

      NavySturmGewehr. I know they were extensively used here as stationary engines powering all kinds of things, water pumps, elevators, smaller machines and even cement mixers! The earliest were made in the 1930's I think and the last around 1970(?). There are a lot of them still about here in the U.K.

    • @NavySturmGewehr
      @NavySturmGewehr 7 років тому +2

      The larger problem for me now, is that I feel this burning desire to design and build a lister type stationary engine to run on woodgas. Having access to a waterjet and have a close relationship with machine shops might not be healthy for my wallet!
      Thank you for the reply!

      mark marchiafava. That is a good question. I think it would. I have been thinking of making a 4 way wedge. Might get stuck on the really knotty stuff.

      Have you looked at the other vids I have posted? These will show the operation better than any photos I could take.
      Happy building!

    Hi are the fly wheels of another lister engine please

    • @tinkertime7165
      @tinkertime7165  4 роки тому +1

      michaelshortsc. Yes. One is slightly bigger than the other. Not sure why. Might be due to different horsepower rating. I happened to get a few junk Listers. Trashed unfortunately.

      Thank you I’m still trying to find the flywheels when you got the rack and pinion from USA did you get the rollers or the handle mechanism from them as well I may need a bit of help if you don’t mind me asking I’ve got the engine and some wheels for the chassis

    • @tinkertime7165
      @tinkertime7165  4 роки тому +1

      michaelshortsc. I just got the rack and pinion from the states. The bearings I bought online, can’t remember which ones, I think I went for ‘high load’. The handle and mechanism I made up after watching the video on you tube from an American manufacturer of a kinetic splitter. Can’t remember the name, begins with D I think. They make a few garden machines. Easy enough to find tho. One of their vids shows the principle pretty well.

      Look up DR RAPID FIRE. made by DR power equipment.

    • @michaelshortsc
      @michaelshortsc 4 роки тому +1

      Tinkertime ok great thanks I’ll see if I can find it the other question is is there something on the end of the rack that makes it go back as sometimes you hold the handle up and other times you don’t but the handle goes down on it’s own
      And are you using a belt and pulley for the return or a spring

    Hi, would you consider selling this splitter

    • @tinkertime7165
      @tinkertime7165  6 років тому

      Peter Wood. I am not looking to sell it. There may be a price I would let it go for but it would be an exceptionally high one!!
      These kind of machines are available for I think £2000 ($2500). Engines on those are noisey but it would be possible to put this kind of engine in.
