12:00 Thanks for talking about the games and yeah Burst Limit was truly something to behold at the time even though it had ended on a cliffhanger. Super Dragon Ball Z, which is another game I never see many talk about or bring up was probably the very first Burst Limit game so to speak on the PS2 console which is crazy but yeah that game was something else too.
Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was a ton of fun due to basically being a greatest hits of every character across the franchise and duking them out against eachother, no matter how irrelevant or small. And I can’t wait to see that continued with Sparking Zero, and this time with Super characters to boot! Of course, DB FighterZ is what I consider to be flat-out the best DBZ game to how fun and epic it is, along with having tons of crazy tech but being simple enough for anyone to pick up. And I do have plenty of fond memories with the Legacy of Goku and Dragon Ball Origins games due to being the closest to Dragon Ball RPGs. While DBZ Kakarot tried to do something similar, it kinda just felt like a free-roaming version of Xenoverse, and so it sädly didn’t really scratch that same itch for me. It’s at least leagues better than DBZ Sagas though, which tried that same formula much earlier but nowhere near as good, and was the first console DBZ game I played on my OG Xbox due to being the first DBZ game released for it. Talk about a bad first impression… Also RIP Toriyama-sensei, you will be sorely missed.🙏🏽
Solid list! I'd add Shin Budokai 2, Infinite World and Super Sonic Warriors 2. DB Legends, Dokkan Battle are decent mobile games and Evolution for the PSP is surprisingly not complete garbage lmao. Tenkaichi Tag Team is fun too
@@diamonshade7484 That is true, this is part of the Budokai series (developed bu Dimps still). Dragon Ball Evolution for PSP is probably the best thing to come out of that awful movie. Gameplay wise it's a modded Shin Budokai 2. Maybe not the best especially when compared to Shin Budokai 2, but I'd still play it for sure.
Fave DB Games: Advanced Adventure Legacy of Goku 2 + Buu's Fury Hyper Dragon Ball Z (greatest MUGEN game of all time) Shoutouts to Super Dragon Ball Z which I haven't played that much of but I love watching good players play it, and DB Origins which I didn't finish because my DS shit itself but I did really enjoy most of what I played, even if it felt a little bit unnecessarily padded. Pre-Z Dragon Ball is by far my favorite part of the series and seeing it retold in such a lovingly detailed way was very pleasant and I'm a diehard Phantom Hourglass defender so the gameplay was right up my alley as well.
I only had one DB game growing up, and it was Budokai Tenkaichi 3, so I remember being absolutely stoked when they announced Xenoverse 1! I had a laptop at the time, so I literally used to bring the game with me on the bus to school I loved Xenoverse 1 so much. Those were the good ol days 😂

I destroyed my first PS by Modding it so I could play just that Game. Burnt out my Disk Drive by keeping the Lid Open so I could get it to skip the Region Locking. Great Game and well worth it.
Not talking about raging blast should be illegal with this type of vid. I remember being hooked on that game and I loved the budikai and tenchiechi games and grew up with them but raging blast was just as fun.
fun fact about the 3ds dbz and one piece games, if you have the dbz one you can play online against someone with the one piece one and vice versa. Pretty cool concept imo
I have great memories in the early 2000s of playing Super Saiya Densetsu (One of the card battling RPGs you mentioned) on ZSNES without it being translated and trying to guess or use knowledge of the series to figure out what to do. And yes, Hyper Dimension was great too.
Burst Limit is amazing. Most people don't talk about it because DBZ Games without the Buu Saga is criminal, especially after Tenkaichi 3 did regular Dragon Ball and GT, but Burst Limit's style is the best in the series. Probably even better than FighterZ since it actually tries to be unique and more flavorful rather than trying to just being a cutout of the Manga art, which, while impressive, isn't visually striking or unique.
Regarding Tenkaichi 3's story mode, I heard that Tenkaichi 2's story mode was actually closer to what Budokai 3 did with the open world and some people liked it a lot because of that. Even if aside from that, everyone agrees that the gameplay aspect was undoubtedly perfected in Tenkaichi 3. Aaaaaand its great that you mentioned the Legacy of Goku games- my brother had a bootleg copy of the second game which meant that I unfortunately could never save my progress, but I remember having fun with it a handful of times even with that.
Huh... No mention of Supersonic Warriors? One was on the GBA and its sequel was on the DS... Basically a 2D version of the Budokai Tenkaichi games which were really fun (though I liked how long the matches lasted in the first game, the second had the life bars go down way too quickly to savor the matches). What's more, Arc System Works made them, so they didn't just come out of nowhere for Extreme Butoden on the 3DS. This is kinda made apparent since Supersonic Warriors 2 started the whole switching characters/assists on the touch screen and one or two songs introduced in SSW2 being brought back in Extreme Butoden.
Didn't realize the Nintendo handhelds had so many acclaimed Dragonball games. I didn't play much of the DS and 3DS libraries, so it's always nice to come across some good stuff I missed out on a decade ago.
Real glad you brought up Attack of the Saiyans in the end, i almost thought you'd missed it And yeah a game like that for every arc wouldve been great, almost all of them do have these big stretches of time skipped that could be filled up with so much potential The two years before the android arrival, extended Saiyaman shenanigans, the works Also wish Kakarot wouldve expanded on those, it often felt like the devs meant to but bit off more than they could chew with dev time Makes the many dlc episode support kinda ironic lol
shoutouts to xenoverse 2 for not allowing you to play online on the steam deck because of anti-cheat thank you namco, very cool, you can update that ANY DAY NOW
About Burst Limit, the reason this doesn't really get much attention comparatively is because it simplifies many of the mechanics from Shin Budokai and Infinite World, has little content, and adds many cutscenes during gameplay that shows down the pacing of fights heavily
My first dragon ball game was "super sonic warriors" on the ds. It was kinda ahead of its time. It reminds me a bit of fighterZ. You can build a team, swap out members, do team ultimates, Z assist. A cool game. Underrated af
The B3 story mode actually blew my young mind back when I first saw my friend playing it. Exploring the overworld was so fucking cool I begged my grandpa to get it for me
a lot of people are pretty down on it and i know this channel has talked about it in the past but yeah tbh i think that dbz kakarot is a surprisingly fun time, it's one of the most comprehensive retellings of the overall story with excellent big action cutscenes and pretty fun action-rpg gameplay. it's got tons of deep cuts for dragon ball loreheads and it's just cute to see how they realized the dragon ball world in an actually kind of big, somewhat open game for once.
Appreciate the hyper dimension shout out, not a fan of the shade on sagas and 22 as I have fond memories regardless of and possibly despite quality. Sagas with my little brother with us dying laughing ripping on it while beating and unlocking everything, then just going around as bardock and prolly and trying to break the game, man that's one of the best memories we have together. 'bad' games ig exist but you can't replace the fun times. Enjoy what you enjoy.
The Legend holds up to this day imo, would go as far to say it was ahead of its time. Tenkaichi 3 is king, though. Love FighterZ and all, sank 2k+ hours into it, but nothing quite captures the show like T3 for me. Hope Sparking Zero lives up to it.
I grew up in the 2000s so I played thru both the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi series and while Budokai 3 was cool, The Tenkaichi series is still peak to me, that series made it feel like you were actually playing the anime. Budokai while incorporating elements from DBZ still felt majority like a fighting game at heart like Tekken, Soul Caliber, etc while the Tenkaichi games specifically Tenkaichi 2 and 3 felt like a Dragon Ball Z game at heart. The roster, the gameplay, the brokenness felt so Dragon Ball and even tho we had good games after the OG Tenkaichi (Sparking) series such as Burst Limit, Raging Blast, FighterZ, Xenoverse 2 (both of which I never really could get to into them), and Kakarot (which was a great retelling of the DBZ story but the gameplay was a little too repetitive and got old after awhile) they all lacked that element that for me Tenkaichi had which is why I’m so hyped for Sparking Zero aka Tenkaichi 4
20:31 as a kid I put so much time k to dragon ball z legendary super warriors. Over 200 hours playing over and over getting all the characters and building decks. Something about that game was addicting, and surprisingly a little bit of depth
I have yet to watch Dragon Ball but with every one of your uploads I'm drawn closer to watching it. One day, I'll have the courage to jump in. You're killing it with the beard btw!
That Dragon Ball theme was early US broadcast, it barely saw the light of day and almost no DB fans even knew it existed until Abridged used it in a joke on Fake Namek lol we know the FUNi dub english versions of Mystical Adventure and the ending theme - the same themes used in Japan lol
I still vividly remember Dragon Ball GT Final Bout being super expensive to buy in the midwest. Saw it one time for $250 in a game store and yea, it was for the Japanese version. Wild times.
As someone who have played all the ps2 Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi games. I am kind of INFURIATED that Bandai haven't invested in something like attack of the saiyans. You said it the best, this is what Kakarot could've been. A more down to earth slice of life game that expands on the in-between stuff would've been so cool. Heck with it's own unique story that isn't just slightly deep, but incredibly in depth. Infact the maps you showed in attack of the saiyans in what looks like a chinese-inspired town looks fucking COOL. Or the way north kaio's planet look like. It looks incredible. Or the traversal stuff you showed with kuririn, some of these video game original maps reminds me of 1 Dragon Ball game stage... Do you remember babidi's stage in budokai 2 that clearly were never in the original manga or anime? I want MORE OF THOSE ORIGINAL things. A side of Dragon Ball that we've never seen. Basically something only video games can show us. Original worlds or stories. It's why despite my disdain for DBFZ's story and my dislike for Android 21's personality in the game (Not her character design, her design is PEAK.) I appreciate that DBFZ did go for an original story over what we got with XV 2 which is just fixing timelines. So i definitely want something original like what DBFZ attempted or something akin to attack of the saiyans that is more personal so we can see what the characters we love are up to in whatever AGE of the story they are in.
YESS!!! FINALLY someone talks about DBZ Legendary Superheros!!! I have a love/hate relationship with this game since I was a kid...but still love playing it lol

Super Dragon Ball Z, which is another game I never see many talk about or bring up was probably the very first Burst Limit game so to speak on the PS2 console which is crazy but yeah that game was something else too.
YES! FINALLY!
Love for Dragon Ball Fusions.
Budokai Tenkaichi 2, Legacy of Goku 2, and Kakarot gotta be my favorites
Talk about a bad first impression…
Also RIP Toriyama-sensei, you will be sorely missed.🙏🏽
Solid list! I'd add Shin Budokai 2, Infinite World and Super Sonic Warriors 2.
DB Legends, Dokkan Battle are decent mobile games and Evolution for the PSP is surprisingly not complete garbage lmao. Tenkaichi Tag Team is fun too
Dokkan is peak fym
Evolution is budokai
@@diamonshade7484 That is true, this is part of the Budokai series (developed bu Dimps still). Dragon Ball Evolution for PSP is probably the best thing to come out of that awful movie. Gameplay wise it's a modded Shin Budokai 2. Maybe not the best especially when compared to Shin Budokai 2, but I'd still play it for sure.
Fave DB Games:
Advanced Adventure
Legacy of Goku 2 + Buu's Fury
Hyper Dragon Ball Z (greatest MUGEN game of all time)
Shoutouts to Super Dragon Ball Z which I haven't played that much of but I love watching good players play it, and DB Origins which I didn't finish because my DS shit itself but I did really enjoy most of what I played, even if it felt a little bit unnecessarily padded.
You didn't mention them but you should check out the Supersonic Warriors games which were actually Arc System Works' first time with the IP. It was pretty solid in my
Dragonball Legends should have definitely been mentioned. It rewarded you for actually recreating canon events.
Burst Limit had my favourite presentation
Weirdly enough, I'd probably say Sagas is my favorite Dragon Ball game, the multiplayer was just really fun with my brother
I love Legendary Super Warriors! The difficulty and unlockables made it so much more fun
fun fact about the 3ds dbz and one piece games, if you have the dbz one you can play online against someone with the one piece one and vice versa. Pretty cool concept imo
supersonic warriors is like 50% of my childhood
I have great memories in the early 2000s of playing Super Saiya Densetsu (One of the card battling RPGs you mentioned) on ZSNES without it being translated and trying to guess or use knowledge of the series to figure out what to do. And yes, Hyper Dimension was great too.
Love the "Field of View" reference with the GT clip there
Burst Limit is amazing.
FINALLY YOU ATLEAST TALKED ABOUT BUDOKAI 1! I FINALLY HAVE CLOSURE AFTER ALMOST 5 YEARS!
3:55
"And a little Baby Goku wiggling a stick..."
Nonono, Austin, it's either the Power Pole, the Nyoibo, or the "MAGIC STIIIIIICK!!!"
KAIOKENNNNNN.
In Supersonic Warriors 2 you can change how fast the life bar goes down in the options.
Found your channel through that Kakarot 100% DLC video. You should definitely revisit it at a later point, really liked that video.
Bro forgot about Infinite World as the "final Budokai" on PS2 and the Legacy of Goku/Buu's Fury that was really sick on GBA
Didn't realize the Nintendo handhelds had so many acclaimed Dragonball games. I didn't play much of the DS and 3DS libraries, so it's always nice to come across some good stuff I missed out on a decade ago.
7:48 Buu being a Fortnite kid fits too well lol
Fusions and the legacy of goku series were my favorite games. Somthing about a handheld DBZ rpg just hits right.
Xenoverse 2. It's just huge.
Real glad you brought up Attack of the Saiyans in the end, i almost thought you'd missed it
And yeah a game like that for every arc wouldve been great, almost all of them do have these big stretches of time skipped that could be filled up with so much potential
The two years before the android arrival, extended Saiyaman shenanigans, the works
Also wish Kakarot wouldve expanded on those, it often felt like the devs meant to but bit off more than they could chew with dev time
Makes the many dlc episode support kinda ironic lol
The editing in these videos is amazing.
shoutouts to xenoverse 2 for not allowing you to play online on the steam deck because of anti-cheat
thank you namco, very cool, you can update that ANY DAY NOW
You know nothing of the combo system in Budokai. It’s a mind blowing moment seeing all the stuff you can pull off.
About Burst Limit, the reason this doesn't really get much attention comparatively is because it simplifies many of the mechanics from Shin Budokai and Infinite World, has little content, and adds many cutscenes during gameplay that shows down the pacing of fights heavily
That hyperdimension neptunia joke might've been at its expense, but man, at this point, I'll take anything.
Legendary Super Warriors was actually amazing. Also, first game I played that covered the entire story of DBZ. I really enjoyed playing that one.
The West City theme from the GBA game Legacy of Goku 2 is so beautiful - part of my childhood.
My first dragon ball game was "super sonic warriors" on the ds. It was kinda ahead of its time. It reminds me a bit of fighterZ. You can build a team, swap out members, do team ultimates, Z assist. A cool game. Underrated af
I like Supersonic Warriors 2 more than FighterZ.
Still insane to me that Monolith Soft made a dragon ball game. God wish it got a port and theyd make another one
Wtf, bro that was such a slick transition to the ad. Kudos 👏
Been a fan of dbz and the video games for bout 20 years now😭 I even got my son watching dbz. It's generational
20:31 as a kid I put so much time k to dragon ball z legendary super warriors. Over 200 hours playing over and over getting all the characters and building decks. Something about that game was addicting, and surprisingly a little bit of depth
I may be an outlier, but I do love DBZ Sagas
so nice to talk about the good stuff for a change!
I have yet to watch Dragon Ball but with every one of your uploads I'm drawn closer to watching it. One day, I'll have the courage to jump in. You're killing it with the beard btw!
I really enjoyed DBZ Supersonic on GBA growing up. Had some really cool what if stories like Piccolo and Demon King Piccolo fusing
Wild times.
The first Budokai was amazing
It's why despite my disdain for DBFZ's story and my dislike for Android 21's personality in the game (Not her character design, her design is PEAK.)
I appreciate that DBFZ did go for an original story over what we got with XV 2 which is just fixing timelines.
Yes, I’m glad Austin brought up Attack of the Saiyans. It breaks my heart that (most likely) because Monolithsoft got bought around the time this game came out they never got the chance to make a sequel.
Tenkaichi 2 and 3 for me, spent my childhood on those. So many characters. You just don’t get games like that anymore
