Something I was surprised about was the fact that CC2 didn't implement QTE's. That's where they shine the most with their Naruto Storm games. But I guess they didn't have enough time to implement them since there are so many iconic moments in DBZ.
honestly this was my first dB game so it was amazing in my eyes, combat was fantastic, story was pretty faithful, the world was huge, and it's got plenty of side content, some of which is definitely worth doing while you go through the story
Contrary Point: Snake way would have been boring. He spent days running down a road and had a single detour fighting a snake lady. I wouldn't be surprised if they did work on it and just cut it because it made the game worse.

That game is extremely easy to get the platinum in. Plus I never heard of it being polarizing, everyone who played it seems to mostly like it. Even in online message boards I almost never see anyone bashing it
I honestly loved DBZ Kakarot. It's all I want from a game based on a Shonen manga, an action RPG with lots of growth, which is better suited to the whole "hero's journey" we see in the genre, compared to a fighting game. If they decided to make something like this for My Hero Academia I'd be pretty happy!
Ig i lived under a rock, i never played this game or saw much content about it but i always thought it was well received and pretty good that everyone loved, seemed like a 9/10, but apparently everyone hates it?
@@Lrizu nah I truly love it. It's pretty much up to you and I honestly don't feel it's a Gohan-main game. I've been rocking Goku, Vegeta & Krillin. New update coming 2023
I just love how they make up a final fight between Goku and Kid Buu just before he throws the spirit bomb so that way the final character you play as in the story of Kakarot is the title character.
It’s a really good game. Not to mention it adds more to the original stories like what happened to characters that disappeared and added characters like Android 21 and Mira into the side
I think it should have DB, DBZ, and Super up to broly at least. I think the combat in the game currently would be cool to see multiple matchups in the ToP with. The broly fight would also be cool. I think original db would be dope and I think the way Goku fishes in this game would obv fit kid Goku WAY more. I would love to train up multiple characters before starting tournament arcs from both original db and super tho. That'd be really nice.
I want these guys and the fighters game to work together on an open world DBZ game with a denser open world. I think mixing the best of those two games and putting more time into the side quests, and potentially letting you make your own character and that might be the best DBZ game ever.
THAT'S where I knew cyberconnect from! Solatorobo was such an impactful part of my childhood that I recently rebought and replayed it and... it's good! It's so good! Also fuga looks incredible
I totally agree. While i like playing as Gohan, Vegeta, etc. I really wanted to be a Goku-centered game, one of those games that make people say "it makes you FEEL like Goku".
In defence of the cutscenes I'm happy that they did them the way they did. It's simply an accessibility feature. Being deaf is a killer when you play a game and someone says something that's 2 words long (usually the mcguffin of the game) and you can't hear it it kills the story. EA missed this entirely on squadrons and it made the game basically unplayable because it wasn't possible to get subtitles on the opening/training mission and once you get to mission 3 you've picked it up on your own but your not great and then it gives mission critical information without subtitles. When you can't hear you don't realise that it's actually told you what to do. That's as far as I could go with it because they didn't consider a portion of the player base.
Chiaotzu stan here, you called? Dunno what you want me to say, I just love him; A cute Jiangshi that is never addressed at ALL is classic Dragonball goofyness. He got so shafted after sacrificing himself in Z.
"not acknowledged at all" Did you not watch OG DB? there's a whole running joke of Krillin and Chaiotzu hating each other, and then him helping Shen cheat during the WT, him and Tien are in a lot of episodes of the original series, he doesn't do much in Z because it almost feels like Toriyama didn't like to acknowledge he made Chinese focused characters or something, really weird.
@@LilyApus I meant 'acknowledged' in the sense that they never really explained why he is that way, no backstory or anything of the like. lol Which is fine during DB's comedy days, a world with furries and dinosaurs? say no more! But then with the tone shift in Z, you just gotta roll with it cuz there's not gonna be any clarification.
@@AT7outof10 oh I figured it was pretty cut and dry when you see the episodes of them, Master Shen is an asshole and thus Tien and Chao were taught to be the same way since they were his students, sadly most of the backstories are pretty basic, Krillin was bullied, Goku has amnesia and was raised by a dude in the mountains, Yamcha was a desert bandit etc lmao.
I agree! We need more DB games in general and this type would be perfect for DB. It would allow us to play as characters like Bulma, Chichi, Puar and such allowing more unique gameplay styles.
4:44 the fact that it was another "just do the plot of dbz" type game was actually one of the reasons my dad wouldnt let me get the game when it first came out. Telling me that, "xenoverse 2 is also the plot of dbz but you get to shove your oc in there. (Not his exact words btw)" i only was able to get a copy of the game on switch a couple years ago, and dbz kakarot and xenoverse 2 are still two of my favorite dragon ball games to this day.
I absolutely love this game. I platinumed it immediately and going to 1000G it on xbox one. And can i just say. The way this game handles running and flying should be the standard for all games
66 hours for 100% completion??? yeah okay..... And I didn't really think it was that bad tbh. For a first "open world RPG" type DBZ game, it's great. One thing I do agree with it if they make it like the trunks DLC, that would be great.
I thought the same.... I feel like the OG Dragonball created such a great universe for an open rpg world game. As Dragonball went from the OG to Z it became less about wacky friends going on adventures and stumbling towards a bad guy. It became more about fighting this new strong enemy that threatens to kill everyone we know and love. Which works great in fighting games but not so much what Kakarot was going for. IMO
The combat was good, but it still felt like a PS2 era jrpg. I expected a lot more out of the side content and maps, because the game quickly became quite tedious. As someone who absolutely adores the original DB and Z, the classic characters and environments plus the animation charmed me until the end. But as a game it's honestly a 7/10 at best, while games like XenoVerse 2 and FighterZ are 9s.
Thanks for mentioning Fuga, love cyberconnects furry games a ton and good god I hope its doing well because i dont wanna wait another 10 years to get another

I actually really like playing the side characters for the main quest in anime related games. Like DBZ:Attack of the Saiyans on the Nintendo DS had a long chunk of the game as Krillin,Yamcha,Tien,Piccalo, and kid Gohan.
Having played it when it came out (without diving into the DLC which I've heard was pretty meh until the Trunks one so I haven't gone back to it yet), I definitely agree with it being a perfectly fine 7 / 10 game. Definitely worth a look though, especially if it has been a while since you've last experienced DBZ's story.
I have to say,, I preordered the collector edition of this game just for the statue that came with It. I played like 5 hours of It and never came back to the game.... I do not regret anything, the statue is beautiful. Maybe I'll return to this game and finish the story... maybe little extra, I'm still salty that the most expensive edition of the game didn't include the season pass

Yamcha cheated on Bulma and still acts like a loser despite being the world's best baseball player. That said, I do love Yamcha and wanna see him more.
The gameplay loop started to get too repetitive after I finished the frieza saga and took months to get back into it. Would have loved the graphics and open world of this game with the fighting system of raging blast 2 or tenkaichi 3

Man... That's such a shame to hear about the World Martial Arts Tourney being skipped over. Tournaments in RPG's have always been one of my FAVORITE things in any RPG. Some of my favorite moments from many of my favorite RPG's have been during Tournament moments. Such a shame that they didn't let you actually fight thru a Tournament arc.
I saw somewhere that the limitation on the material they covered was due to IP\licensing allowances. They simply weren't allowed to explore some of the content because they didn't have the rights to it.
Always weird me out how people are overly harsh on games like Final Bout and Kakarot but then sing no ending praises for shit like the Legacy of Goku games
It's mostly nostalgia speaking. Also, Kakarot is almost universally loved, it's just that the haters for some reason scream really loud about this game. The game has a solid 93% out of 21k reviews on Steam alone, that doesn't look like a hated game much imo
I bought the game not long after it came out almost two years ago. My issue with the game was that it was too easy, that on top of how unnecessary random encounters were if the majority of the experience gained was from the story mode only. I didn't have to grind at all because I wasn't faced with difficulty.
Definitely a game that you can only get into if you either like Dragon Ball or if you’re interested in the series and want to learn the story through the game instead of the anime which is an experience not many can claim to have. The combat is dead simple but the game to me seems more focussed on a casual experience and a game that is graphically phenomenal and I think that both of them make this a great game. It tells the story well and the world looks great and the battles are extremely flashy and also look great. Very good game in my opinion, personally I prefer it over Xenoverse, FighterZ and Breakers

The side quests broke me after the Frieza saga as it became dull "oh no this man is gonna murder someone, they're gonna send a me generic ass Red Ribbon bots when the man that can end them in 1 in punch arrives"

Never understood why people would skip games based on reviews. As a hardcore Dragonball z fan since 2003, this game was a must for me to play. Platinumed this game and put over 100 hours into it. Honestly one of the best DBZ games I've played since Tenkaichi 3. Gonna replay it on my PS5 as soon as they release a 60fps patch.
Actually really liked this game. Don’t know if it’s fun to play, but the world building aspects and fanservice is stellar
saying that you don't know if its fun to play this game, says a lot about this game lmfao
Would’ve been better if it was a game for Dragonball classic…
How the hell do you like something that you don't know if it's fun to play

Genuinely really enjoyed my time with Kakarot and i loved experiencing the story yet again even if some parts were cut out. Heck, i hadn't noticed until some friends told me.
It's not a game i would replay from 0, but that doesn't change the way i feel about it.
Something I was surprised about was the fact that CC2 didn't implement QTE's. That's where they shine the most with their Naruto Storm games. And given the fact that Dragon Ball Z has so many intense moments that formula would've been perfect. Definitely would've added more to the gameplay. But I guess they didn't have enough time to implement them since there are so many iconic moments in DBZ.
There are actually a few in the dlc fights
I wonder if it had to do with ultimate tenkaichi and how that games has a ton of qtes and they're where like ehhh idk how people would react to that.
technically button mashing during beam struggles is a QTE
ehhhhh.... people don't really like fucking QTEs
QTE worked for the naruto games at the time they released as that was the norm but in 2021 that shit isn't good regardless of the visual presentation
honestly this was my first dB game so it was amazing in my eyes, combat was fantastic, story was pretty faithful, the world was huge, and it's got plenty of side content, some of which is definitely worth doing while you go through the story
that Trunks DLC might be worth my time
Its good content
Honestly my favorite thing about this is that it gives characters more character. You get to see everyone's connections and it's just so good.
Contrary Point: Snake way would have been boring. He spent days running down a road and had a single detour fighting a snake lady. I wouldn't be surprised if they did work on it and just cut it because it made the game worse.
It could've been a temple run kind of segment.
Snake Lady isn't even canon
Yeah but also that was the perfect spot to put some side original content if they wanted to.

This game is nice if you haven't watched the show in a while and you don't feel like watching it but you want to remember it again. It was nice for me.
This was actually my favorite DB game. If the enemies in Time Machine actually scaled I would play though again.
facts but theyre all 1 hit lol
Better than Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3?.. no wayyy
That game is extremely easy to get the platinum in.
Plus I never heard of it being polarizing, everyone who played it seems to mostly like it. Even in online message boards I almost never see anyone bashing it
93% score based on 21k reviews on Steam doesn't seem polarizing for me

The game is dead
@@lapplandkun9273 it's a single player game tf you mean it's dead do you even know what that means?

I honestly loved DBZ Kakarot. It's all I want from a game based on a Shonen manga, an action RPG with lots of growth, which is better suited to the whole "hero's journey" we see in the genre, compared to a fighting game. If they decided to make something like this for My Hero Academia I'd be pretty happy!

I just love how they make up a final fight between Goku and Kid Buu just before he throws the spirit bomb so that way the final character you play as in the story of Kakarot is the title character.

Me too
It’s a really good game. Not to mention it adds more to the original stories like what happened to characters that disappeared and added characters like Android 21 and Mira into the side
I still wish this game was strictly early db focused...early db just doesn't get enough love and respect 😞
yes OG Dragon ball is perfect for Open world Action RPG .
hell yeah son. Kid goku dragonball was the shitz
Im with u man. But the kids only care about Z and Super nowadays 😕
@@kazuhirokawamoto7213 Dragon Ball Origins 1 & 2 for the DS? Yesh.
I would gladly spend an hour just flying alone Snake Way. Was a missed opportunity.
I loved this game, this was the fist time time we really got to play the series and the battles had great "final boss" moments
Damn that's some bullshit, sorry to hear that man
This game is so peak man I would gladly 100 percent this game again if I could

The power creep has just gotten more absurd like it’s literally the Goku, but Vegeta, show now.
@@LilyApus I meant 'acknowledged' in the sense that they never really explained why he is that way, no backstory or anything of the like. lol
Which is fine during DB's comedy days, a world with furries and dinosaurs? say no more! But then with the tone shift in Z, you just gotta roll with it cuz there's not gonna be any clarification.
@@AT7outof10 oh I figured it was pretty cut and dry when you see the episodes of them, Master Shen is an asshole and thus Tien and Chao were taught to be the same way since they were his students, sadly most of the backstories are pretty basic, Krillin was bullied, Goku has amnesia and was raised by a dude in the mountains, Yamcha was a desert bandit etc lmao.
i really think this game (or rather, this type of game) should have been made as an OG Dragon Ball game. that would have been cool.
I agree! We need more DB games in general and this type would be perfect for DB. It would allow us to play as characters like Bulma, Chichi, Puar and such allowing more unique gameplay styles.
Maybe we’ll get this in season pass 2
4:44 the fact that it was another "just do the plot of dbz" type game was actually one of the reasons my dad wouldnt let me get the game when it first came out. 66 hours for 100% completion??? yeah okay..... And I didn't really think it was that bad tbh. For a first "open world RPG" type DBZ game, it's great. One thing I do agree with it if they make it like the trunks DLC, that would be great.

There needs to be more OG DB games in general
You just sold it to me. 👌
