A question: I have 2019 Forester touring when I am inside the car and I want to change the set 1 to set 2 now my car only change the position of the car but no de mirrors. On your video you explain how to do it from the fob. How I programming to also change the mirror when I press only the bottom inside the car. Thanks
Hi Alex. I just purchased my first Subaru, a Forester Wilderness. Does the Forester Wilderness have this option? I don't have setting buttons on the door or facial recognition. Thank you for all the informative videos!

Hi, Alex. Thank you. For your wonderful videos. I am from Winnipeg (“Winterpeg😊”), Manitoba. Our winter lasts 5 months. I purchased today Legacy 2024 GT ( the only trim we have in Canada). Awesome video! But ummm, how do I know if my 22’ Subaru Forester has this option? I don’t have the memory buttons on my door panel so I’m assuming my mid package car doesn’t have it? 😢
Are you able to expain how the infrared face recognition actually works. I find it picks up my face easily sometimes but not at other times. What does it use to idetufy a person?
If I set up the facial recognition along with both key fobs and both key fobs are in my possession, will the facial recognition over ride the key fobs and adjust my seat and mirrors?
Hello Alex - very informative videos. Quick question, I just purchased a ‘21 Forester, do you know if the spare tire compartment will accommodate a regular/full size wheel? Thanks !
Awesome, thanks! Quick Question before I run out and set this: I have auto-retract set up (thanks to your video on that lol) so, I assume I should get in the car and let the face scan set my seat back to the memory position first before I do this. Now, once the seat un-retracts and goes back to my setting, if I now program the key fob, auto-retract will still work, right?
I just got the ‘23 ascent and am finding your videos very helpful! I am short so my seat is up a lot and I hit my knees when getting in and out. I set my fob to have the seat back for when I enter the vehicle and the driver recognition sets my seat to my preference. Now I can’t seem to find a way for the seat to go back when I exit the vehicle. Do you happen to know a fix?
Or you should be able to program one of the door buttons to be an ‘exit’ position if you can spare it. We’ve just picked up an Outback and have one very short driver and one tall. Haven’t had chance yet but watching Alex’s great videos I want to set up BOTH keys to be a generic easy position for both drivers to get in and then use the Driver Recognition Eyesight features to then move the seat and mirrors appropriately for each individual driver AND program one of the door buttons (probably no. 1) to be an easy exit position that can accomodate both drivers again, maybe same as the generic key positions or further back. Sounds complicated but I think it should all work ok. I’m probably making it more complicated by not differentiating between the 2 keys but we are used to just using one between us and having a ‘spare’ stored away in case of loss or issues. Long suggestion but hopefully it might help!
Hello Alex, maybe a somewhat related question, why would the remote start option on the 3 button remote stop working if the check engine light isn't on and all the doors are closed. It worked previously and all the unlock, lock features work on both remotes fine?
Hi Alex. Thank you for a great video! Could you help me with my issue, please? I have Ascent Limited 2019. And I can set different seat positions to buttons 1 & 2. But as far as I see, there is no mirrors memory on Ascent (only Forester has it). When I push button 1 or 2, only seat changes its position. Do you know if it's possible to program mirrors on Ascent Limited 2019? Thank you!
Hey Dmitry, I haven't encountered this before on the Ascent. As far as I know, you can program the mirrors just like the seat. Have you tried moving the mirrors all of the way in one direction and then clicking your memory button to see if it moves back in place? The reason I bring this up is because the mirrors move quickly so if they have only been moved slightly from your memory position, it is hard to tell if they move back. Hope this makes sense.
@@alexpmo Hi Alex. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, no. If engine is off, mirrors do not move at all. They work only when engine is on. Do you know, if it is designed this way for all Ascent models? Or is it just my car issue?
@@DmitryMokhan I just tested this on a new 2021 ascent and the mirrors can only be adjusted with the car on. The seats can be adjusted with or without the car on. So this is by design. Not sure why though. At least now you know your car isn't messed up and it's working as normal.
@@alexpmo Thank you so much for your help. Unfortunately, I don't think it's normal as I cannot adjust mirrors positions like in your video :) So a drawback. Honestly, this is the only complain I have for this car. Even in my Volvo 2004 mirrors moved together with seats. There is no reason to adjust seats automatically if you then have to adjust mirrors manually. But it's another story. Thank you so much again!
Hey Alex! Thanks for the videos. Quick question: I have a 21 Forester and from my understanding, there are three ways to save driver settings. 1. Facial recognition 2. Memory position buttons on driver door 3. Key fob. Is there a way to synchronize all of these? Otherwise, when changes are made, they would have to be synchronized in three places. Thanks for any insight!
Hey Rich! Yes, you can sync all 3 but you have to set them up at the same time do so. So the easiest way to do this is to set your seats and mirror, then go through the steps to set your facial recognition, door button, and key fob all at the same time while the seat and mirrors are in the same spot. Hope this helps!
I have a question Alex. I have a little dog that I take with me everywhere. When it is hot I lock him in my car with the motor running and the A/C on. How does that work with the key Fob and when I buy my new Forester will I automatically get two key Fobs or just one. Thanks, Gail
Hey Gail! Yes, you’ll get two key fobs. I’m not sure about the locking while leaving it running. I’ll check on that and get back to you with an answer!
Yes, you can still use both. You will just have to set the door setting, the facial recognition, and the keyfob all at the same time so that they're all set for the same seating and mirror position.
Yes, here’s a video I made to show you how to set your auto retract seat and memory seat position. Hope this helps! ua-cam.com/video/Pt8U3OqzgqU/v-deo.html
@@alexpmo Sorry. It’s not making sense. If you are using your fob to retract upon entering, how can you use it to instead position your set for driving upon entry? Doesn’t it have to do one or the other?
Alex, how to delete key memory settings. I checked numerous forums and videos but can’t find the answer. I want the key fob to perform no action (behave same as brand new key). I don’t want to reprogram the key to some new settings but just erase key memory to adjust seat and side mirrors.
on my '17 Forester Touring - and I assume subsequent Subaru seat memories - you delete key memory settings with ignition off, by holding "SET" and pushing the Lock (closed padlock) button on the fob. The owner's manual does say this, but is easy to miss because the text shows only the padlock graphic, and doesn't mention the word "Lock".
@marksandstrom4248 THANK YOU!! For this info! I have been fighting my seat every time I get in to quit moving & you provided the answer. Now I still can't set a seat memory with the door's 1, 2 buttons but at least the car doesn't have the fob memorized. Technology sux sometimes
I have a long-shot picky question, about my '17 Forester Touring's seat memory. If nothing else, it would be nice to hear from anyone else with the same problem. My car was one of the very first Foresters built with the feature, delivered to us in the Fall of 2016. Since day #1 (69,000 miles ago) the seat memory has slowly mis-remembered seat height, a sliver of a millimeter at a time, adding more and more unwanted height during each successive door-unlocking. This happens to both keys' memorized positions, and to both 1 & 2 buttons' positions, but independently. That is to say, you need to reset each of the four positions correctly independently, to have them all work right. It takes about 6-8 weeks of normal driving for each door unlocking to produce maximum seat height, if nothing has been reset. The incrementally increasing error is the same whether or not we do a lot of driver swapping. The fore/aft and recline positions are remembered totally correctly; only height goes out of calibration. Two different dealers have each had the car 3 times in their service departments, the last time with Subaru corporate service technicians rather than just dealer mechanics, and the net total accomplishment of all this has been nothing more than a written statement "yes we agree, your car does do this". (Naturally, all the previous repair attempt visits produced "it's fixed" pronouncements, but those really were just indications that not enough repeat testing had been done - it takes about fifty door lock cycles to notice that the seat height is going wrong). I know a fix is very unlikely, but this remains a constant annoyance to me from a 95%-perfect car, so I keep it up. ;) Now, to move on to my other issue, the stereo than cannot be turned off when I find that sudden perfect parking spot and slap the transmission into Reverse....
Alex ? what if you go out with your wife and only have one key fob but you get sick and she has to drive home …..ok shes short your tall does she just hit memory button #1 or #2 again only one key fob the husbands
Hey Marc, I would sync up the 1 or 2 button on the door to your personal seating preferences. That way if you're ever in the situation where you only have one key fob, you can just click your number on the door and your seat will move back into a comfortable position before you get in.
