The Chicken Wing is my favorite throw. I use it for my pull...I do a sweet spin and then chicken wing it the length of the field. I call it the tornado and I always get weird looks when I do it haha.
tried the push pass several times this past yr + a few ppl have tried 2 teach me, but all the disc would evr do is flip ovr and ovr in the air. so frustrated. kept thinking, i gotta watch Brodie's video on it. finally did. watched 2:11 one time, tried it, and it flew like it was supposed 2. u're an excellent teacher, Brodie. these videos r great. thku
I just started Ultimate and just wanted to thank you for your videos, they are incredibly useful (as I'm sure has been told you about a million times already). One question, are forehand/backhand skip legal in competition? Thanks again!
I assume you already know by now but if you're still wondering its a turnover because the disk touches the ground it would be the defense's disk where it made contact.
All dad's do. It's their physiology. Following birth of their 1st child, their arms contort and they never can toss a frisbee athletically ever again. I'm holding off on kids so I don't lose my touch.
Funny video with fine throws. Brodie has come up with some nice new names, but the Chicken Wing of course is called the Overhand and the Dad Backhand is the infamous Underhand.
i watched your video just yesterday and today i was playing with my friends and threw a chicken wing on my first try. thanks for teaching me how to throw it.
I haven't mastered it yet, but you can also throw this from your other side, sliding your thumb across the bottom of the disk and your fingers across the top. this backhand style is extremely difficult, and doesn't go nearly as far, but it's useful if you can master it.
@brodiesmith21 its an unorthodox throw called the alligator. where you make your hand like an alligator and pinch the disc and throw it. hard to get spin on
Add the Hitler throw to your arsenal :) Also I know another one but I have no idea what it's called. It's a backhand that is thrown above your right shoulder (with a right handed thrower). as you throw, step at a 45 degree angle to your left with your left foot, bend your neck a little, and release the disc. it's a big airbounce and tough to throw 15 feet. basically after you release, the disc looks like it's going to hit the ground 5 feet in front of you
I do one like the chicken wing grip but you get low and level out the disk so that your wrist looks like you are holding a pizza. I've always called it a thumber but I don't know if there is a technical term. You can huck it pretty far though.
I like using the chicken wing for quick catch-and-releases, but I never have to "break my shoulder" doing it. For the grip, I don't start with a beach grip, but I put all four fingers on top, and i put my thumb sort of backwards on the bottom so the fingernail side of my thumb is against the inside of the rim.
Brodie explains the push pass, and let me tell you, non-elites use it to make short passes, too. It's kind of like when a QB does a shovel pass in football; the arm motion and release point make it easier to get past defenders. Otherwise, these throws are the equivalents of trick shots in basketball HORSE. It just looks cool, and it can be fun-filled to do things that would never work or result in turnovers, like skip passes. Also good for showing off or trolling opponents.
For an upside down backhand you want to throw it like an outside in backhand because its going to turn in the air and you need to give it some initial angle so it has room to turn, or it won't get distance.
Ever do the wooga throw? Its like the seabiscuit, except you only have your thumb underneath the disc, with all four fingers on top. It doesnt fly as far, but it looks cool.
5:43 you're shaping up to be a good AFL player Brodie. :P I know you've been in Australia, someone here should have mentioned that to you by now.. ;) you got the height, build, and the kick isn't bad either.. and importantly you could mark a Sherrin (AFL football) just as well as a frisbee too. :)
Bowling throw pretty much looks like a "turbo putt" in disc golf. The only difference is you put your thumb underside of the disc with four fingers on the rim. Now bring your disc roughly at eye level and give it a good push with a little spin on your disc and hopefully your disc can land in the basket.
The way that i skip on grass IS very different than on hard floors, but in principle its almost the same... just increase the spin and make the disc angle more parallel to the ground (also helps to have the frisbee hit the ground farther away, but not too far otherwise it will just roll!)
Out of all of your great vids and multitudes of throw tutorials, I haven't once the throw that I first learned to use well! It's the one where you grip the Frisbee with palm upwards and all four fingers facing toward you, then snapping out with your thumb as the flick-off point. Do you know what this one is called? It really works for distance or just as a tricky pass!
I can never get the chickenwing to go strait, and a friend showed me a chickenwing was a throw where you hold it on your forearm like you did and then you pull back and spin it off your thumb, is that an actual throw. Please comment below!
Brodie throws it quite well, but that first throw is a Wrist flip,. Prior to the innovation of the Flcik, taht is what we threw from the right side. Once the Flick came into play, no one threw the Wrist Flip anymore. These are ;fun' throws, the name 'advanced throws implies throws you can use in a game. I would inoclude the Scoober, lefty high release, Elevator/push, and various inside-outs. The throws in this video arlso have another name in Ultimate "Turnover"
This is the most "bro" channel I have ever seen. This is absolutely amazing. In their natural habitat.
"good catch from my brother..just kidding he actually drops it.." haha
My dad genuinely throws a dad backhand normally. So perfect.
For realsies my dad does the exact same thing.
And they're remembering how they were pros back in the days when they played it :D
Fantasizing about people you meet on the internet? Your problems are more serious than I had imagined.

tried the push pass several times this past yr + a few ppl have tried 2 teach me, but all the disc would evr do is flip ovr and ovr in the air. so frustrated. kept thinking, i gotta watch Brodie's video on it. finally did. watched 2:11 one time, tried it, and it flew like it was supposed 2. u're an excellent teacher, Brodie. these videos r great. thku

@goreds1971 its all in the wrist make sure to get a lot of wrist snap
Epic Video dude, I feel like I learnt a lot of information here that will help me with my assesment standard for school tyvm
Cool collection of vids. Hilarious name, the Dad Throw. We call the spinny throw, The Rodeo
@looghawj Nope. As soon as the disc touches the ground its a turnover.
I just started Ultimate and just wanted to thank you for your videos, they are incredibly useful (as I'm sure has been told you about a million times already). One question, are forehand/backhand skip legal in competition? Thanks again!

If u play ultimate, please take this with a grain of salt. Nothing in this video was useful
LOOOOOL "The Dad Backhand" No need to teach that, I'm sure we've all been thought that technique at one point in our lives.
Lol the dad backhand is exactly how my dad throw frisbees
felixar90 I'm a dad and this is exactly how I throw 😂
All dad's do. It's their physiology. Following birth of their 1st child, their arms contort and they never can toss a frisbee athletically ever again. I'm holding off on kids so I don't lose my touch.
Is those fresbees that u use kaind of same what they use in fresbeegolf?
FullClip776 Nope these are for Ultimate Frisbee!

Loved the skip throws
Great vid!
Nice throws
@brodiesmith21 its an unorthodox throw called the alligator. where you make your hand like an alligator and pinch the disc and throw it. hard to get spin on
4:38 not bad👍🏻 Broadie Smith keep it up
Nice Catch Buddy
Never seen this B 4 you make it look easy, I am going to buy a disc and try one thing at a time , ( Melb. Australia ) 🐸
I personally reccomend one throw only: The Dad Backhand. Legend has it that it cures cancer.
Great video!
Yeah! ND Ultimate! Nice disc.
Rapid fire learning!

Try turning on the Audio Transcribe in the captions option. Definitely worth a second watch.
Love the Sea Biscuit - we call that a Fluffernutter where I'm from.
That is actually how my dad throws, except he does it through the legs, "for extra power", such an inspiration.
best bro tip yet.
1:15 GOOOAAAAL
the dad backhand is well named because the only people i've ever seen do it were dads with no ultimate experience
Thanks Brodie! After practicing through watching your videos, i became so good people started to call me The Asian Brodie Smith!
could you show us more tips on def. such as the force-flick and such? and some basic drills/cuts you guys do?
I like using the chicken wing for quick catch-and-releases, but I never have to "break my shoulder" doing it. For the grip, I don't start with a beach grip, but I put all four fingers on top, and i put my thumb sort of backwards on the bottom so the fingernail side of my thumb is against the inside of the rim.
That is really helpfully I'm gonna work on the kick pass
I can now mack the disk about 20 yards
Pretty legit, imo, that's the coolest frisbee throw you can do
Awesome video.
You make me want play ultimate so much !
His groundbounce is ridiculously good
Dad backhand is funny because my dad taught me most of what I know and is really good lol
Brodie explains the push pass, and let me tell you, non-elites use it to make short passes, too. It's kind of like when a QB does a shovel pass in football; the arm motion and release point make it easier to get past defenders.

@1223JOEY1223 Really focus on pushing the disc forward and swiping across it...hard to explain, but it takes a lot of practice

this is pretty sick
1:20 the sound is ROBLOX chat notification...
I love those made up names ...he comes up with new moves and put funny names for those moves...
The best bro!!!
Awesome vid
I never knew Frisbee was this complex. I always just considered the Dad Backhand the main way to throw it.
This is so weird!! It's actually true about that dad backhand. My dad actually throws like that lol and he doesn't understand my forehand either haha.
Thx man hope to try it wen we get our frisbee down from a roof
Finally I know how to skip. Thanks!
I love the Bogo :)
really helped me
I like the bowling throw haha
either the hammer or the backhand
could you make a video on the spiny throw? it looks sweet and i dont quite get it yet.
brodie is amazing
4:20 Gaylord hear closely
@baweery No-Talent? I love it!!!
Bowling throw pretty much looks like a "turbo putt" in disc golf. The only difference is you put your thumb underside of the disc with four fingers on the rim. Now bring your disc roughly at eye level and give it a good push with a little spin on your disc and hopefully your disc can land in the basket.
Can you make another video on how to throw the Spinny, or whatever was at 5:00? I don't quite understand how the spinning and flick at the end work.
The way that i skip on grass IS very different than on hard floors, but in principle its almost the same... just increase the spin and make the disc angle more parallel to the ground (also helps to have the frisbee hit the ground farther away, but not too far otherwise it will just roll!)
I do a backhand skip. I did it without learning. I’m pretty good at backhand throws.

Love the dad backhand I curveball it lol
Hey! Great channel! :) How do you call this throw on 5:15?
5 years late :) but I know it as the grapevine (because of the spinning motion before the release).
I can never get the chickenwing to go strait, and a friend showed me a chickenwing was a throw where you hold it on your forearm like you did and then you pull back and spin it off your thumb, is that an actual throw. Please comment below!
Yea
This guy owns
My dad throws like that!!!!!!!! It must be something kids did those days lol
You should do one on the Pizza Toss. Great to throw against the short game poach.
It's terrific 🥏
Hahaha, my dad does the "chicken wing" all the time xD I can't stop laughing at him :D
Are the frisbees in the shop you can see in the discription the same as you use?
I mean are they even that good as in the video?
Brodie throws it quite well, but that first throw is a Wrist flip,. Prior to the innovation of the Flcik, taht is what we threw from the right side. @kinger1793 No. If the disc contacts the ground whether you're playing on grass, sand or indoor results in a turnover.
hey brodie in PE we are starting our ultimate frisbee unit and i was wondering if you recommend the Chicken Wing
Thanks a lot to help with my understanding! =))
brodey smith macks hard on that disc
