I love frisbee, and have gotten my family into it. I throw pretty good, but definitely wanted to learn this technique. I agree, this is the best tutorial that I've come across. Thanks, and I subscribed.
Hi from Japan In Japan,There are few Ultimate UA-camrs .So we couldn't get enough knowledge about Ultimate. But,I find you. It's a little difficult for me to listen in English. However,I have studied English for 6 years in school.when I use a subtitle and set a speed ×0.75,I can understand:) By your videos,I wanna be a good Ultimate player.
I've been having trouble with flicks since I started playing. Once you said not to leave space at 0:48, my whole throw changed. My throws aren't wobbly anymore! That was it!
OMG, I love the way Rowan explains his technique. It's been a year since I've been playing ultimate and, as result of watching your previous videos, I may say I have a decent back and flick throw, even the airbounce flick! Best to you Rowan!
I really thank you so much. I have to give a presentation in sports and I didn't know how to throw a frisbee. But you told it step by step so I could understand it. So thank you, you're doing a great job!
That is terrific. Only thing I would add is highlighting the need to establish a strong pivot foot (left for right handed throwers, right for lefties). I see lots of veteran players throwing off the wrong foot. Its key for new players b/c they can then always pivot/turn around and throw a backhand dump if not comfortable w/ forced forehand option. Thx for putting this video out there--super helpful.
I've always struggled with the hammer and have seen tons of videos. I think I just need more practice, but would like to see your instruction on the hammer!
VOID_LILBRICK no I’m serious everybody at my school agrees that the teaching is horrible so I’m trying to learn out of school because throwing frisbees are fun
Some great tips in there! Thanks for putting that together. I've always had a great backhand, but my forehand always suffered some. The only decent forehand throws I could do involved putting my thumb inside the rim, leaning away to level off the frisbee and flicking it with the arm and wrist. Good power, but not great accuracy and it scrapes your wrist every throw.
This video helped me a lot! I've played for several years but always struggled to keep my flick consistent. The elbow leads on the forward snap -- added a solid twenty yards for me!
Thanks so much! The thumb back pinky forward tip was extremely helpful in helping to keep my wrist snap horizontal. That really helped a lot! Also the elbow positioning tip and the throwing stance were great tips! Managed to fix my throwing issue right after I watched your video. Thanks and all the best
I watched the video; can I throw now? Or should I practice? Maybe just go out and confirm that it worked? Seriously, though - thanks for making these - you're like a modern day Brodie - he was killing it with the Bro Tips. Wish these were available 30 years ago.
I already have a pretty good flick but I’m honestly just here to improve.I don’t even know why people keep dissing frisbee and saying it’s not a real sport I honestly think it need as much athleticism as basketball and soccer and if this is just a game and not a sport then I guess tennis is just a child’s game
I also used to think the same. But when I came to college and played it in the team I realised how good and demanding this sport actually is both physically and mentally. You have to be fit and fast, a lot of endurance in your body and sharp with the strategies. From then on I have stopped judging anything without actually trying it.
You want your strongest finger on the edge of the disc to create to most power and stability. Unless your ring finger is stronger then your middle finger it's inefficient.(no body's ring finger is stronger then their middle finger)
The only thing missing from this video is how to put more or less touch/float on your flick he hints at just experimenting with it but it involves what your wrist does during the release of the throw by externally turning your wrist slightly when you release you can throw angled flicks that level out smoothly and float and are very easy to receivers to read and catch at the apex of their jump(way easier then flat throws) or internally rotating your wrist to throw or accurate blades that give the defender no chance.
As I learned it, making layouts is not so much a technique you learn but more something you figure out by doing it. That might start off with just falling to the disc but that's already a great starting point. The technique comes with the experience in this case. The hardest part of making layouts is probably just start doing it. The best way in my experience is just to really convince yourself that you wanna have the disc and that you can have the disc even though it seems out of reach at first glance. The best layouts seem impossible, especially in the beginning, even for the player who is making them, but when I notice myself giving up because the disc is out of reach anyway I always try to convince myself that I can still have it and not always, but sometimes I am suddenly laying on the ground with the disc in my hands. I believe that's also why people are making more layouts in important games because they wanna have the diclsc so badly that they never give up. If you can get that mindset, making the layouts themself just simply goes naturally, without thinking about it. My worst layouts I make are the ones where I think in advance that I am gonna layout: those never work. Also, depending on where you're living it might be a great idea to try and join beach tournaments or pick ups. Here in the Netherlands almost every player first learnes to layout during one of our beach tournaments and then brings it to the grass. I hope you can get something out of this tips. Good luck and always play more ultimate!!
What part of your hand? If it's the meat between the thumb and index finger, take a rest and try again in a day or two when its a little less sore. It'll eventually strengthen in a few weeks so it doesn't hurt.
Great vid! please teach your falling airbounce backhand as seen here: ua-cam.com/video/5P5BQNpeC8g/v-deo.html. By far one of your most distinctive throws! Cheers from up North
Definitely the best forehand tutorial I have seen online so far - for sure added a lot of good points that I can use in teaching now thanks!
Thank you! I should have made this a while ago!!
Yeh Nick! I’ll see you sharing these Rowan gifted gold information next time at beginner training!

Airbounce flick!? respect :)
I've been struggling to do the grip, but now that I watched this, it definitely helped me out. Thanks!
I got recommended your backhand video yesterday, and I already have seen a significant improvement in my throwing, great stuff

Y’all over here actually learning and want to play but I’m only here because of gym class😂
Dude gym class is worse at teaching than UA-cam I learned nothing and everybody at my school sucks because of the horrible teaching
Michael Garrity then why are u in that school? Maybe they are smart and you’re just dumb

Rowan's backhand and forehand are amazing!
This was extremely helpful, Rowan! Felt like a follow up from your last video. Thanks!
Exactly my plan, now I need to make a backhand one :)
Just wanted to comment because this was so helpful! This is perfect coaching and i love fundamentals, thanks so much!

Thanks so very much Rowan! Excellent video. So clear and detailed.
This video helped me a lot! I've played for several years but always struggled to keep my flick consistent. The elbow leads on the forward snap -- added a solid twenty yards for me!
Same... I even learned foot blocks before I learned forehands, kinda shameful lol

@@RowanMcDonnell See - I coulda been you, if they'd had those earlier. Thanks for doing what you do!

Awesome video! Gonna share with my high school team 😁
When are you going to invite me out so I can teach them in person!?
Rowan nice video, it will be good if you do the same with back, you have a lot of tips to improve.
will do!
Any recommendations when it's a wet disc?
Ultimate Gloves are great when it's wet!
slightly more outside in, and don't try to throw it as far!
@@RowanMcDonnell why do you like more OI in wet conditions?
Rowan falls over on his flick hucks!
not wrong!
It was great 👌🏻✨
Great tutorial. Thanks a lot
What is AUA ? on t-shirt
Hey Rowan, amazing tutorial. What's your take on the 3 finger grip for forehand?
In general, most people describe the 2 finger grip as "power grip". I'm pretty sure it's because you get the best power/spin possible :)
You want your strongest finger on the edge of the disc to create to most power and stability. Unless your ring finger is stronger then your middle finger it's inefficient.(no body's ring finger is stronger then their middle finger)
@@curtisclack9067 I think the 2 is slightly better than the 3. but not opposed to it!

Yes I thought about diving in deep, but kept it to the basics for now. Might do a advanced follow up but not in the near future! good points
My forehand always airbouncing I can't even do forehand bullet help! 🥺
