Winter Motorcycle Camping on the Moto Morini X-Cape 650

- Cold weather doesn't have to mean the end of your motorcycle camping season (depending on where you live). If you don't want to spend your winter motocamping trip sleeping on the cold, wet ground, a yurt or cabin setup is a great alterative. You still get all the best parts of moto camping like hanging around the campfire and enjoying the outdoors, but none of the winter camping anxiety that comes with not knowing your shelter is going to be up to keeping the elements at bay.
This motocamping trip video is also part of my testing of the new Moto Morini X-Cape 650 adventure bike. On this trip, I'm riding the Moto Morini and using the X-Cape 650 side cases that you can order as a factory option to haul all of my motorcycle camping gear.
I hope you enjoy this winter motocamping trip!

Do not ever, ever stop showing the stuff around motocamping. Starting a fire, cooking, setting up camp...sharing emotions. That is what makes your videos so unik. There are so much vloggers that just show riding.... so boring😂😂
You and The Magpie flies are the best. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Have an Exped Megamat. Sooo comfy but bulky. What is your most comfortable airmatress?
100% agree! This is why I watch this channel.
💯!!! The riding is always great to watch but I gotta be honest, watching dudes sitting round a campfire, talking rubbish, making a feed, having a couple beers - 🤌🏼
I'm not drunk, I'm just stupid. Best line ever.
The reverse stogie hit should be included in the 500K subscriber highlight reel. Slowmo style.
Kramer…
I like your true Canadian toque there bud.
this guy gets it
I like the looks of that bike. That being said I’m kind of a Japanese bike fan boy. Look forward to the full review. Always like your camping videos even in the cabin
When we visited my wife’s family (Medford, OR) a couple years ago we stopped at Silver Falls. They had a last minute cancellation and we were able to grab a cabin. We always carry a couple bags and jet oil, etc in the car. Fantastic quick unplanned night at the park. Great location and appreciate you sharing the experience. Thanks for your content. I look forward to moving back west from the midwest some day and riding the fire roads!
Love it! This video has such a great vibe of being in the great outdoors. I could watch this video for hours, just enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. Your B-roll really captured the essence of what makes adventure riding so amazing and refreshing. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
I live in Western washington, and during the winter, most of my riding areas are snowed in.
But the summertime mountain riding definitely makes it up
I’m not wasting my time watching you Dork, how else am I suspose to fall asleep😳🥴… keep em coming Ben some of us can’t use our motorcycles this time of year… snowmobiles yes😀
Do you call this winter camping? no no. In Norway this is summer camping. while winter camping is under snow and -20 degrees. We leave the motorbike at home. A little joke from the cold North.😁
tshansen: good channel
I live less than an hour away. We dont get snowwe get mud and fog. Setting up a tent in the mud is just not fun.
Motocamping = it's about the ride, not the sleeping quarters. I'm jonesin' for a weekend away.....I think I need to make that happen sooner, rather than later. Cheers!
Thank you for leaving in the part where you smoked the wrong end of a cigar. Nobody’s perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.😂
i have done similar 3 times so far. No breathing in, just a wtf i am blind moment 😊
Nice Bem looking forward to hearing a review on the moto Morini Good looking Machince Cheers
LOL. We all have that flaky friend. We want them to come, we get excited about spending time together, but we plan to be alone - because a puffy biscuit is less flaky than that friend.
That was such a a great video just the whole thing was interesting and fun. Way to go brother 👊
Thanks for the winter camping vid!
Great video as usual!
I love the moto camping videos! Glad to see some winter camping
Cant wait fot the full review. Im in highschool and am wanting this to be my daily rider. I live in a rural area so, lots of gravel roads. Love your work, keep it up❤
Thanks for a great video. Always enjoyed the content.
Love it! a camping video! This is what drew me to your channel in the first place - being able to watch someone do what I want to do when I can't do it (injured). This is the best part of your channel - camping videos. I don't care for all the other fluff but thats just me. Thanks for posting.
Thank you Ben for the great footage, Always great when you can camp in January. Love seeing what the Moto Morini can do.
Legend, love your work mate . From down under .👍
Love your channel! Just bought a DRZ400 to do exactly this because I live near Seattle (Enumclaw) Wa. I am a relocated SoCal guy and simply wish to do PNW activities. I will be going through your video's to educate myself!! Big thanks
Great video. This is why I come here. To watch these kind of antics. keep it up!
Dork, Dude, that's a cool looking bike!
Best. Shirt. Ever.
Always entertaining. 😊. Damn I was waiting for the song.
You had me at "baton some wood" 🤩
Solid video. Its always nice to see the stuff others bring on overnight, or longer trips. Love the hard boxes. the ones on my V-strom don't have very big tie down loops. Wish they did.
Excellent entry level bike and entry level adventure. Not everyone wants to tent camp, especially in cold weather.
Great video.....thanks
Nice job on your review of that Chitalian bike. I’m happy with my 23 KLR Base, in green of course . Nice work Dork!
So, how long have u been riding ur KLR? They were ~5k usd a month ago at the shop (b4 fees) which is wild considering my klx230sm was almost that 😢😊 imo anything 250cc or less should be around $4k per 2006 prices 😅
Great video!!
Love it
Thank you.
LOL!!! When I saw you go for your reversed cigar, I laughed a little. Been there, done that. Good thing you didn't burn yourself.
Swilling from the can may be adequate for Coors Lights, but for a sophisticated beverage like Montucky Coldsnacks one requires an appropriate drinking vessel.
This was fun. Can you get chair pants at MCN? This is a nice "cheer-up" for the winter! My pro-tip is: every time I ever splinter wood by using impact objects such as logs, axes or anything, I always wear eye protection! Safety glasses (specs) are not just for riding. Please protect those peepers. ATGATT.
I watch you video for the Utube adds .....( Joking) nice to see you go out in winter , to much snow here and the bike is sleeping until april Alain & Yellow
Great video, funny as always. Nice to meet Duckfan, go ducks!
The drinking song would have been a great addition. I guess you did sing the futon song... it was a little week... could have used some air guitar. 😊
What a cool place !
Gotta admit I’m a little jelly
Actually, I mostly listen to you drink beer, while I work. :^)
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that doesn't remember which way to turn the gas valve on those things 🤣🤣
LOL EVERY TIME
We need some places around here with cabins like that!! I would do some winter camping in those!!!!
Hey Dork, I’d go faux camping and backwards cigar smoking with you anytime. Great video.
Dork, love your informative vids!! Question.. are there any “moto camp shows” in the Midwest that you can check out equipment before purchasing? There are plenty of outdoors/boat shows in west Kentucky. Thought it would be cool to have an ADV show.
Nice! Too much snow and cold in Canada.
i haven't watched any of ur vids in weeks... I miss my internet bro 😂
Keeping it real. That's why we watch. See ya at Touratech rally.
That's a perfectly acceptable shelter after a ride in winter, although we'd probably call it a hut here in Australia. Cabins here generally have 2 bedrooms, a bathroom & kitchen.
I'm surprised you compared the Moto Morini to a Honda. I think the most obvious comparison is with Kawasaki's Versys 650 given they have a lot in common, especially as it runs CFMOTO's version of the Kawasaki 650 twin. And I wouldn't worry too much about reliability with that engine. We've had CFMOTO 650's here for over a decade and, while they're not quite as reliable as the Kawasaki original, you regularly see older ones for sale with 40-50,000km (25-31,000 miles). And my Kawasaki 650 is almost at its 18th birthday & i've put almost 100,000km (62,000 miles) on it with not much more than regular oil & filter changes.
I love moto camping and I dig your channel but I'm not sure I can watch this for two reasons: 1) it is very difficult capture the magic of this activity on video (because some of the magic is about the simplicity of the activity and what you aren't doing, 2) It reminds me that I want to be moto-camping right now.
Much love for you Ben! Cheers from down south!! Are those panniers just branded givi boxes?
I e run the silver falls trail. Beautiful place. You should’ve got some video of the waterfalls. 😊
8:05
Man after my own heart. 😂😁
1 finger that clutch Dork!
Couple things. Moto-camping is about the Moto, not the tent. And, I agree with the warranty comment. People always talk about Kia and their engines that blow up. Every car leaving my dealers has a 200k warranty. And they have great customer service. When one of my engines did die, they let me put miles on their loaner for a couple weeks. No big deal.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I lost everything you said and did when you put the cherry in your mouth.
Can’t wait to see your “Favorite Camping gear 2024” video… hint, hint.
I would love to see you review the pan America
There are two Pan Am test ride vids on the channel.
@@DorkintheRoadI’m sorry I completely missed those gonna watch them now
It’s good to finally see Wilson, sorry I mean Duckfans face 😝.. gotta know though is it his name or a nickname? I think you might have covered off on why he doesn’t show his face but I’m guessing he’s a cop? (which is fine of course)..
Ducfan is not his name, no. He wanted his face covered because he likes to make my life difficult.
"now it's time to relax"
"GD this stupid chair! I always struggle to get it setup.". ;-p
Headed to the Bend area in a week or two. This video makes me hopeful I'll be able to ride when I am down that way!
Love your sense of humor and lack of gatekeeping.
Noticed your hard luggage....are you switching over or flip flopping hard and soft? Edit: I am an idiot, the hard cases are probably what came with the bike for your testing.
I have mentioned it before, but I would love to see the issue of luggage spoken about on your podcast btw.
Thanks for the tip.
I don't use hard cases. This press bike just had them so I thought it worth giving them a try.
Haha, yeah I editted my post right before seeing this....I'm an idiot. In my defense, I am listening/watching this while organizing my storage Closet, so my brain isn't 100% focused on it.
REALLY enjoy & appreciate your content. I’m an older guy that really doesn’t have any inclination to be part of conventional social media. So, you may have posted, which I’d be unaware of. Tried your website, but didn’t see it Or a ‘Contact’ tab. So, left to my typical avenue, YT.
I am new to SW PDX area, and looking forward to venturing in to Adv riding. Do you have top tips for information on (legal) places to off-road on two wheels ? T Y 😇
You’ve made me want to fast for several days.
The warranty, itself, is not enough. Will the manufacturer remain in business and will parts be consistently available (as well as service)? Also...will it be fundamentally reliable?
Moto Morini has existed since 1937. They have a parts warehouse in California. Can't speak to the fundamental reliability.
Fun vid. The only thing keeping me from winter bike riding/camping is the road salt. I cant stomach my machines getting covered in salt. Blahhh..
What gear were you wearing this trip. Not MSR? Yes you are camping! Smart man!!
Mostly MSR except for the Tourmaster Highlander jacket.
Well done El dorko. Well done ole boy.👏....coors light?? ..ew
It’s not cheating! It’s being sensible when it’s cold out. How do you like the bike? I considered it but went with a CB500x. Ride safe.
Hi, thanks for this video. I'm from Turkey and i have a X-Cape. I need side case carrier but anyone don't know using which carrier. Please tell me which one?
😀
I’m not drunk, just stupid!😂😂😂😂
Think iwill have a beer with you
Now that you've owned or sampled several motorcycles including the 300L, 450L, Trans Alp, Moto Morini, etc., which of those, or any other, would you use on your next BDR?
I'm taking the Transalp on the Norcal BDR this summer and the 300L on the ORBDR at some point, probably solo.
@@DorkintheRoad Looking forward to the videos!
Every video I watch about the Moto Morini the more I think the KLR might go up for sale soon.
seriously need info on the where to get that shirt!
us.tractionerag.com/swag
thank you kind sir!
No waterfall pictures?
40f in January? Oh, brrr.
Hahahaha....
Varusteleka, eh?
Did know gaint loop made hard case 😂😂😂
I want that shirt 3:05

Missed opportunity to incorporate smoking the wrong end of your cigar into the thumbnail or title. Thanks for the chuckle.
If you’re not wearing a bearskin over your loincloth, you’re not really camping in the winter …everyone knows that
Two hats is your new “Indian name”
None of us were the least bit surprised you tried to smoke your cigar backwards. Just sayin...
Looks squatchyI wish I could go there
Someone beat you to chair pants. Plastic or wood seat with straps around waist pipe on bottom to an expanded diameter spring. Called a milkers stool. Dairy farmer I work with uses one to weld
Strokin n Off and smoking both ends has taken this trip to a none PG rated vid. 😇
Your no stupid, you are a dork. That's the whole point 😜
While all of the trolling whiners complain about how this isn't camping....as they sit waiting for good weather. Ride on Dork!!
*Campuary. Its called Campuary not January. also "I'm not drunk, I'm just stupid" is a thing I find myself saying... to myself... fairly often.
I'm definitely watching too much Dork as utube stuck in 5 ads in 25 minutes. Or was it the Dork? Only the futon knows....
🚫🇨🇳4ME🙃
But I'm glad they're in the market keeping the big brands on their toes. 😊
11:04 Right... free time... I would never binge watch your videos while I'm working night shifts and there's nothing going on... Nope... Never...
>.>
Looks like a blast. Hopefully you didn’t burn your lips.. yikes!
When you stay at a cabin you're not going camping you're going to camp which I prefer because at 60 years of age I have no desire to sleep in a tent. I'll take 4 hard walls and a bed off the ground any day of the week as long as it's not a hotel/motel. Hate staying in my room all evening.
Quit splitting wood on picnic tables…. Trash move. Take a few steps and do it on a stump or somewhere more appropriate.
