Sam is an absolute legend. When I was planning my little part of the TAT local to me, I called up Sam. He was a joy to talk to and really helped me understand the roll chart and map layout. I actually bought the maps, roll charts and put them into GPS manually and it worked out great. This was a real heartfelt video man and I really appreciate you taking the time to do it!! Thanks a million to Sam for taking the time to ride every inch of this and keep it up to date with closures etc. I always say, if you want to ride across America with a live route you can count on, take Sam's route. If you want to trespass, end up at dead ends and closed gates, take Kevin's. Thanks again Ang.

Completed the TAT in 2023 and meeting Sam along the route was one of the highlights. This interview brings back so many memories - you guys have done an amazing service showing the motorcycling world what Sam has done. He's a hero to me and to so many others. I hope he gets out and rides the trail end-to-end with his son. Please let him know if his son can't make it there are plenty of other "sons" that would be more than happy to accompany him along the way. God Bless Sam Correro!

Guys like Sam are good for our sport. We as riders need to be respectful of his love for the sport, the effort he puts in with little required from us, and the properties and people along the routes that we ride. If we lose our riding access it’s primarily our own fault. Thanks Sam for your great contributions and love of our sport. It has enriched us all.

I'm 75 now and have dropped down from my Harleys and Indians to a 500 Rebel. It weighs less than half of either of those. I want to do the TAT so bad I can taste it. I rode 43 of the lower 48 on my Harley almost all on 2 lane blacktop. It had over 130000 miles on it when I sold it and bought an Indian. I quit riding for a couple of years ago because the weight was getting hard for me to handle. Close to 1200 lbs for me, my wife, all of our gear, and 950 lbs for the motorcycle. Thank you Sam for giving an old man something new to shoot for.

Excellent job on the interview and editing Angelo ! I missed out on meeting Sam both times I did the TAT in '17 and '23. The routes were slightly different each time. I agree the only true maps are Sam's. I did not know he was a Pharmacist. It was a wonderful experience both times from my home in PA. One thing I do wish was asked was Sam's thoughts on using SxS's on the trail. Looking forward to a loop west then up the Shadow of the Rockies to east on the northern tier route. I hope Indiana and Ohio get added soon. Keep up the great work both of you !

Great video. I can’t believe it took so long for me to discover the TAT, especially since I grew up in the state of Mississippi, and riding dirt bikes since I was 9. Had I known about it in the 90s-early 2000s, it’s definitely something that I would have already had under my belt. Luckily I’m not too old yet to ride it on a motorcycle, and I’m currently setting up my new dual sport for the trail. I bet the Trail 125 would be a blast to ride on the trail!

Biggest takeaway I get from his interview is that riders need to be respectful of the property owners along the TAT. It's sad that Sam went through such great effort to put this together and then selfish individuals acted out and got sections closed. Being from Texas, I plan to do the Shadow of the Rockies from NM/TX border to the north part of the TAT and then ride it east to the MN/WI border and then back. Maybe next summer. If I had known that route existed a few months ago, I'd have done it already. I only learned about that route the day before I took a different route to WI to escape the TX summer heat.

I finally got to ride the Mississippi Hill Country after a few years of planning. Gluckstadt to Batesville and back to Gluckstadt . There were a few gates closed but we were able to figure out how to get around it and right back on the route. You defiantly get to see the rural country and the way life was back in the day. Brings back memories of when I was a young boy. I'm planning to do the West loop next. Batesville to Corinth and back, then the East loop. Then start on the TAT. Hopefully I'll get to do most of the TAT before I'm too old to ride.

Learning about his motivations and thought processes helps everyone have a better understanding of the whys and wherefores of the chosen routes. I did it in 2015. One important point, only use Sam's maps and GPS, do not use GPS Kevin's version as I know people who have got in a lot of serious trouble using it. It is not the original route and it is not "managed"| like Sam manages his trail as he explained in this video. Continuos monitoring of problem areas and sorting them out.

It's Great that Sam put in so much effort to make the Trail. I always thought that it went through Private Land too. Here in Michigan every year it's hard to get Permission from enough Farmers to put together snowmobile trails. The Sate has funding to pay the Land owners that comes from the purchase of trail permits. Too many Riders go off trail and abuse their Privileges and access to that land gets denied and the trails have to be routed another way .

Great vid!!! We've done NW Arkansas to Port Orford Oregon, so we still have to ride from AR to Cape Hatteras, N.C. to finish. HIGHLY recommended. (Corona Pass in Colorado is a bit easier than Engineer Pass.) We both used street legal Husaberg FE390s (great ride, but get a better seat!!!!). Giant Loop Coyote model was all the luggage we needed - stayed in hotels or Air B&Bs so no camping/cooking gear. We did have emergency food & water. Thanks loads for the whole project! JUST DO IT. I'm 75 and my son-in-law is 56. We did it... you can DO it! GET ROAD REPORTS - WHY? - in Oregon we hit waist deep snow on May 15th and had to backtrack, which cost of 4 hours overall. Stop over-planning, stop procrastinating. Pick a date. Plan a bit, of course. Get your first aid kit, a GPS (we both use Garmin 396 LMT-S models - zero problems in 4 years. Then start. We've done major portions each year for 4 years (we both still work, so vacation time was used.) Thanks loads SAM (and Some Guy Rides)!!!!!

Wow! Thank you for this video. I live in Oklahoma and I hear that the TAT in OK is not so ok, but I really desire to ride it in Wyoming. Plans are in the making.

When I went across it was very wet and gross - so I slabbed it. I don't think it's very fun when it's mud. But I've seen other folks go across when it wasn't and they really really loved it. Hope you make it out there!

@@SomeGuyRides I saw what you came across and had to turn back to slab it. Well, the roads in Oklahoma are bad enough that half the time it feels like off-road anyways 😆

Knobheads doing donuts in on someone's ranch is mind blowing to me. I hope that's not something that happens anymore.
