Before putting together this Moto Morini X-Cape 650 review, I had the pleasure of spending several weeks with the Xcape 650. I was able to take it motorcycle camping and do a full X-cape 650 off road test and X-cape 650 road test. I rode it in the rain, mud, on wet pavement, and through some tight forest twisties. I even crashed the motomorini xcape into the ditch after a log hop gone wrong.
My final Moto Morini X-Cape 650 review is simple: it's maybe the best value in entry-level non-hardcore adventure bikes. If you're shopping for an easy adventure bike for beginners and currently considering beginner adv bikes like the V-Strom 650, Versys 650, KTM 390 Adventure, Versys X-300, or the Honda CB500X, you should definitely take an Xcape 650 for a spin before you make your final decision.
That moto morini 3 year warranty is truly the best in motorcycling and is a total game changer, in my opinion.

I am seeing a dealer in Las Vegas advertising them for $6000.00. Wish I could buy & bring one up to Canada! Unfortunately can't get it across the border. Hopefully will be selling soon in Canada.
Definitely will be using your link to buy some tires, Ben. Looking at the tusk 2 track for my AT. I ride mostly road but want something better for off road due to my limited off road riding experience I'll pay for gladly for tire wear vs. a broken bone due to a crash.
Pretty sure they dropped the MSRP to $6,999. For a budget ADV and sport tourer you can't beat it. Wish this was on the floor when I bought my KLR...
I'm glad I got the KLR. I don't want to worry about all the electronic stuff breaking and I'm really tall, but this does seem like a great value.

If I were trying to buy it outright I’d make sure I had 8,500 ish. And if you had leftover, get gear.
So I have a Ducati multistrada 1200s 2017. I just purchased this bike to take camping and touring. I will tell and do I dare say!? The fit and finish is just as good as my duck? Maybe even better! I was going to get a Honda xl650r and then saw this and it's the same price!! Screw the Honda! For the price and what you get you'd be an idiot to think anything less. This bike is amazing anybody looking for something in this range I highly recommend it!! My only honest real complaint is the tires make a lot of road noise when running on the highway. That's about the only thing I would change. And yes the engine power is not exactly there but that's what you get when you want a 650. Other than that great bike great purchased can't wait to see what they keep bringing in the future. Excited for their 1200 x cape that's coming in a few months that's my next purchase.
Spot on summary Ben. I had the low seat option for my 5’10”. I swapped my Xcape for the Seiemmezzo SCR, way lighter and still good for the long days on the road. I agree, that is engine is bland, but if you hold it high in the revs as you suggested then it will reward. I hardly ever used 6th gear. These machines have been in New Zealand since their release by MM and their reliability remains unquestioned. Cheers.

I know A-LOT of other UA-camrs have already done it, but would enjoy YOUR review of the 2024 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. Thus far I see that as my next bike.
I had one last year. Made 5 000 km on it. Sold it eventually. Not sure if it was mentioned in the video, but the engine is really hot. The fan blows all hot air on your legs and your ⚽️ ⚽️. If you choose this bike for daily commuting in the city with a bunch of traffic lights - you are going to hate it during the summer( around +25-30 Celsius where I live). The internal cpu is slow. So the tft is laggy and slow as a result. But I loved riding it on highways and on mountains roads. A lot of people don’t like the 180 degrees engine sound,but for me it wasn’t the problem. Forget hard off-road. 250+kg with those luggage bags and only 60hp

Just for info, 3yr/unlimited miles warranty has been a Royal Enfield thing since 2019. In the US, you can’t be required to service at a dealer to maintain the warranty.
Another one to keep an eye on is the upcoming Ibex 450.

Great review and commentary! I'd definitely be interested in a bike like this. I had a CB500 and would never do that again, so the MM looks to be a great bike at a really comfortable price; especially notable as MC prices have jumped to stupid numbers in the last couple of years.
My main concern is the weight; Ben, did you do a drop and pick up test? If so, could you comment on how it is to lift up? As we all know, bikes do tend to fall over, and we're not all youthful specimens of physical perfection.... anymore.

Royal Enfield Himilayan was a similar situation and they offered I believe a 3 year warranty to off set the reliability concerns. The Moto Morini looks like a great bike and an excellent deal.

Is very similar to the new CSC RX6 coming out. For the price, are hard to beat. Thing I like about CSC is the great customer support which is why personally I would lean that way 100% (with reliabilitybeing a question). I am in no way affiliated with them, but have been looking at "this type of bike/price range'. This looks great, the RX6 is attractive option, CF Moto 650 Adventure, and Himalayan 450. Point is lots of options which is great to see. Love the video and keep em coming DITR!

Resale value is another potential drawback of a motorcycle like this. The CB500X seems to hold its value pretty well.
That's typically the case with any bike that doesn't have massive brand recognition; however, I agree especially so with Chinese bikes (regardless of indicated value)

Does it have the same buzziness in the pegs as the Versys 650? I loved everything about that bike apart from the feeling of having an electrical toothbrush under each boot.

Great review and if fits a perfect niche in the entry but not beginner adventure rider if that makes sense. If was really serious I think they should offer an upgrade kid to turn the bike into the ADVR version we've seen at some of the shows this last year. Sell the one piece seat and the cooler looking shorter rally screen. Maybe a trellis rear section to drop some weight? But mainly capable suspension and a 21/18" combo. Make it a bike you can grow and change with.
We are actually working on adding the one-piece seat and rally-style windscreen to our accessory offering. Plus we are building a project bike that features all signature accessories.

I don't know what to say, I mean: sure, the outer "shell" is amazing for the price (brakes, suspension, electronics), design is great, most italian bikes look very good, but I wouldn't trade my cb500x for it. A bike is more than those things, much more. A poor steel frame, or some cheaper materials inside the engine, or even model specific parts availability can make ownership quite a bad experience in the long run.
Honda spends some serious cash on R&D, and the cb500x has been taken on very gnarly rides, way beyond what it was "designed" for, and it does very well. There are some details on the internet about how the cb500x engine is built, and the 500 Honda engine is a very serious unit that is meant to last long (albeit some more hp would have been great). The cb500x gives off the indestructible vibe of the old Transalp, it is a genuine globetrotter that is sold in every corner of the world, and because of that there are very many 300k-400k km and beyond cb500x's, with just regular maintenance.
Same goes for CFMOTO's Adventura, or Rieju's new adv (which is just a rebranded Chongqing): Brembo's and Bosch electronics seem like farkles to distract you from the core of the bike. It's easier and cheaper for Chinese companies to acquire these things.
It's great that they're pushing their boundaries, and I hope they continue getting better and better, because we, consumers, are only going to win from this. But I'm not convinced yet, far from it.
Oh, and the cb500x comes with a 4 year / 200k km warranty in Europe, so that's just a US thing, unfortunately.
This is the same engine, frame, injection and electronics as the Cfmoto by the way. Not sure if you were saying they're reliable or not

It was more like I would trust CFMoto on reliability before trusting other chinese bikes (didn't know x-cape shared the frame), because they seem to be doing respectable bikes but even so I believe they are far from reaching a Honda's longevity and fixability.
I like the fact that they're getting better every year.
These money differences go somewhere, even if we don't see it at first. Things like inner cylinder coatings, valve materials, tolerances, QA, etc: these things make a bike last long and work great even when old. I'm sure a cb500x will work the same at 100k km, but I don't know about an X-cape.
I'm not saying they're bad, just that these money differences always go somewhere, and you get what you pay for in the long run.
For a beginner's bike that you'll learn on and move on? The X-cape seems like a very good deal, albeit too heavy perhaps. For a bike that you'll keep for the long run and use it as a vehicle, not only for fun, I would go for cb500x, v-strom, tracer 7 or versys. I'm sure you understand what I'm trying to say now.
Interested, I like the warranty, however, my 'local' dealer is 2 hours away. 8 total hours to drop it off and pick it back up again is a deal breaker.
How would you compare it to the V-Strom 650? Seems pretty comparable.
Always thought the Kawasaki Versys 650 bike/engine would make a great adv bike - just the underslung exhaust was a problem.
The only negative,and its a big one,is the closest dealership to me is a 6 hour one way drive.
If they come to an area near me and not some podunk town in the middle of nowhere VA I'd love to check it out. That's exactly the kind of transportation I'm looking for.
I just looked up their dealer locations because I was curious but it's showing one in Pembroke Va, (Wich is the closest to me in SC) and one right across the border in Maryland.
Suzuki needs to upgrade the 650 V Strom XT suspension and foot pegs to compete with all these new ADV bikes. I have a KTM 790 Adventure and 650 V Strom and feel that the V Strom would be a great ADV bike with those upgrades. The Suzuki 650 engine is a gem and it would be a crime if it went away.
Yamaha royal star used to have 5 year unlimited mileage warranty in canada.

To say the company has been around for 90 years is a bit misleading. The Brand has been around for 90 years, the ownership of Moto Morini has changed numerous times. There was name recognition, so Zhongneng Vehicle Group (znen) purchased the brand in 2018. I find the acquisition similar to Rocky Mountain ATV/MC purchasing the MSR name for their house brand. I do have concerns on if Znen is committed to staying in the US. While they are aggressively reaching out to dealers I feel like it's still not enough. While you pay more for Honda and Kawasaki you get a much more robust dealer network 900-1100 dealers. Where as the Moto Morini is currently at 35ish.
I would actually be interested to see how a slightly more established Chinese brand like CF Moto would compare to the x-cape 650. unfortunately, they stopped producing the CF Moto 650 adventura which would be a good competitor to the x-cape. Maybe you can try your hands at the new cf moto 450 that is coming out.
This and the adventura are running the same frame, engine, injection and electronics. Is servicing at a non-moto morini shop allowed for warrantee? Because no reason you couldn't get a cfmoto dealer to do it, they're the same bike mostly. Anyone that can work on a Kawasaki 650 twin can do this bike, identical service manual
The biggest difference between the MSR acquisition by Rocky Mountain and Moto Morini being acquired by ZNEN is that Moto Morini HQ remains in Italy, controlling design, development, and maintaining its Italian heritage. MSR completely changed hands.
It's definitely a beefier bike (over 500lbs) but other than that it's a great deal! If this was available a couple of yet ago, I likely would have purchased one of these instead of my Honda CB500X.

Love everything about this bike…. Except the engine. Having had a ninja 650 years ago, I absolutely hate this engine. Dull, uninspired, and sounds like a wet fart. If this had a 270 twin in it I’d be all over it. Thanks for the thorough review, definitely moves the value game forward.

I have a CFmoto 450ss and absolutely love it. I’ve had a lot of bikes and for some reason this Chinese manufacturer perked my ears up. So I went and bought one to try it out and let me say, I think it’s an absolute cherry of a bike. I’ve done nothing but ride it hard and it’s eaten every minute of it. The features are better than some 16,000 dollar bikes I’ve owned and in my opinion these companies are hitting the market hard. I think they do three things really well. 1:price, 2:looks and 3:features. Pretty much the three things newer riders look for when buying a bike. I also like how these Chinese manufacturers don’t have to make a bike look a certain way to fit the lineage of prior models. Example, the new bmw 1300gs is a big shift from the 1250 and people don’t like it. I mean these Chinese manufacturers can stick any engine in any bike and make it look sweet and no one would care. Anyways that’s my rant and I look forward to seeing what CFmoto and other companies produce.

Fantastic honest review. The issue I have with these Chinese bikes is Dealer networks that will work on these bikes. No dealer near me will touch one, be it CF Moto or Moto Morini or any other Chinese brand. If some issue pops up electronically, your SOL. Just my 1.5 cents. Warranty, Schmorannty, who honors it and who takes care of it? Big red flag here.

It's really weird that a lot of Americans say this - here in Australia anyone would work on this bike as it's basically a clone of the ER6 / Ninja 650 / Versys platform. Most of the mechanical parts are the same.

Mainly some guy named Bob that works out of a pickup truck. They would probably trash the job and void your warranty. Me, I only buy new so I'm covered.

I think back to your Norden. You said you loved it but you didn't trust it (despite you having no issues). So why would you trust this? Just bought a 2023 non current Norden for $3500(CDN) less than a 2024 with a 2 year warranty. Dealer is over 2 hours away, but that is true for every brand in my case. Keeping my trusty DR650, but I don't think it is going to see many miles.

A lovely looking bike and well equipped, but it's not my bike. There is for my needs, too much electronic junk for its class. I believe a lot of new bikes are built for the technology and market hype. I will stick to my '89 Tenerée for a while. It's all I need for every road and trail. I wish Moto Moriini every success but without me. Thanks for the review.
The weight!!!! 17kg heavier than my 2013 ktm 1190 adventure. Ktm has 147hp v this piss weak 60.

From the perspective of a DIY-Owner a 3 year warranty isn't all good. You have to pay for 3 expensive services in the dealership to keep your warranty. If this machine gets to used market prices, prooves that it is indeed reliable (at least more than a KTM lol) and has a nice workshop manual, it's a real deal.
Most companies only require you to prove you've done the services (receipts) rather than require you to have them done at the dealership.

I don't know how color names are invented. I do know that I do most of my dirt bike riding in old coal mine area in north east Pennsylvania, where they have mined anthracite coal for 150+ years. Anthracite coal is pure black, hard and shiney, like a freshly waxed Porsche. Nothing gray about it.
I saw this bike. At first i kinda thought it was an africa twin then i saw the logo.
Got super interested because of the price and sat and did my research on the spot. Everything on paper looked SOO good!. But then i sat on it. biggest dissapointment i ever had for a big bike. It felt so cheap and the covers would give u that loose cracking noise if u press on it a bit like those cfmoto 300cc sportsbikes and the dash although looked huge but the display is obviously inferior quality. Its like IPS LCD vs Amoled. If u compare it to something like a transalp. Unfortunately i didnt hear the engine because the shop show room i was in was small so they wont let it start up.
Just my opinion bros. Engine, shocks, and wheels are best for the price point. Its just the build quality of the bike as a whole that kinda makes me stay away from it. Better of getting a cfmoto 800mt or a benelli trk 700x or a transalp

The abs off-road mode thing is due to European regulations for euro 5 , not allowed to have a straight up a abs off but it can be baked in riding modes so it basically has to be underwater off-road or track modes …

I have a benelli and mine is euro 5 they had to get rid of the abs switch , but sneakily left the wiring , just went to de dealer with a euro 4 vin number and a wink and tada have abs switch
I think the ABS thing is a EU law, you can't turn it off while in road mode, so they have to have a off road mode to make you able to turn it off.
It's a rule in Australia as well I think. It has to turn on with the bike so you don't accidently forget about it

You should be comparing the NX500 rather than the CB500X, because half of the features you mentioned have now been added.

CB500x? This is the Versys 650 which Kawasaki could have made back in 2008. It is not only the engine, the frame, swingarm are the same.
Okay so the engine is a “licensed copy” of the Ninja/Versys 650 engine. Does that mean Kawasaki parts will work? This is my main issue with all Chinese (shoot and European bikes) is the dealer network parts availability. The horror stories I’ve read of KTM and BMW owners having their bike down for 6 months because they are waiting for some obscure little sensor to ship to their dealer from Austria….This would be even worse with a Chinese manufacturer that essentially has no dealer network in the USA. However, if ninja 650 parts were a direct fit to this bike it would make all the difference.
Maybe in 20 years the Chinese will have a foothold in the USA with a dealer in every major city and parts on the shelves but until then I’m highly skeptical. Especially with a 100% Chinese engineered engine.
My guess is yes but they supposedly have a warehouse in Cali with parts so you can get them straight from Morini, as well.
Oil filter is different, but there is an aftermarket one that is common that fits. Air filter appears the same, spark plugs, coils all the same. Brakes are different. Basic servicing is the same as the CFmoto 650 (this bike is the same as that, frame and engine from the same factory) and the service manual is a copy and past of the Kawasaki one. It's things like brake disks that will be different, plastics, shocks etc...can't use Kawasaki for those

The problem with this bike is serviceability.
If you go on any kind of trip with this bike and something happens, how far apart are Moto Motini service centers?
If that's really a Yamaha engine, then I suppose you did good there and could use Yamaha parts.
Another great common sense review. Looks like a great touring bike. I would probably trust the reliability on that bike more than BMW. Sometimes simple is better

I have 7 Honda dealers within 100 miles. I have to go about 7 states over for a dealer for this bike.

I don’t think I would buy that over a CB500x but neither are really my style. I lean more towards dual sports and vintage bikes

@@ChrisSauer-oe5ve I considered the CB500x before I bought my KLR but I don’t regret my decision. I love that KLR and can’t let it go. People say it’s good at everything and great at nothing but truthfully, it’s mediocre and everything except putting a smile on my face.
Morini is Italian like Kodak is American.... Was mate, was... The BRAND has been around 90 years not the company...
3 year warranty might be good but I suspect in 2-3 years when it's time to move to another bike the Honda will be worth twice as much on the used market😅

the hand guard and crash bars are crappy . the bike weight way to mutch 239 kilo . thats alot for a 650cc .
slow bike . it looks good . great red color and design is cool .
Not saying this is junk, but just because it has a three year warranty doesn't mean it is good. Kia had a ten year warranty and those things were total crap. Every time I hear someone talking about a warranty makes me think of Tommy Boy where he says if you want me to take a crap in a box and slap a warranty on the side fine, but if you want a quality part you should buy from me.
i feel so bad for that bike having that horrible 650 engine, hated it on the Versys, hated it on the CFmoto even with the tune they do, and i'm sure i will hate it on the Morini.
A big negative is that it is a heavy bike
Regret buying mine ! Too much heat off the engine , rattly plastics on poor surfaces , plastics are a bitch to get off ! Been in the dealers since February after mis fuelling nearly had me off on a roundabout and still awaiting parts which may or may not sort the issue ! 😧
I currently own a CFMoto bike, and one thing I will NEVER do again is to buy a bike I can't get a full service manual for. CFMoto makes no bones about it, they are 100% "go to the dealer for service" and that's the end of the story. Just something to think about if you're similarly-minded, and don't want to pay $500 or more for a valve clearance check.
Which one do you own? The service manuals are available for download online. If it's a 650, just use the Kawasaki 650 manual. the Cfmoto version of it is basically all copy and pasted from it
@@chrispekel5709700 CL/X - I've found threads online where others say they can't find them. If I get to valve adjustment time and still haven't found one I figured I'd use the Z650 manual, should be the same thing, it's a Kawi 650 bored out. Still, I'm not going to buy a bike in the future from anyone I can't get a service manual for. I just don't want to support that kind of "got them on the hook forever" type of business.
First valve clearance-check is at 25,900 miles. Servicing the valves would be the same as the Kawasaki Versys

The cfmoto 650 adventura has everything this bike has same motor and less expensive
